Gia Maria's is my FAVORITE mom and pop pizza place north of New Haven. It never fails. Last night I received chicken florentine with salad and bread and a side of meatballs. Two huge pieces of chicken fried perfectly. With super fresh spinach, and a mound of pasta. Now, the pasta was a bit bland and I had to doctor it up with lemon, capers and cheese. Next time I'll ask for extra garlic. Salad was standard iceberg, tiny. Bread was big, fresh and thick. Meatballs were (maybe bagged), but I don't mind those and the sauce is vibrant. Serious is always A++++ even when they're slammed. They deliver, FYI That food only cost less than 25.00! Steal! I have leftovers. Easily can feed two people. Side note, they will also par cook and freeze a pizza for you (I mayyyyyy have brought one to Florida in my suitcase last year because their pizza is that good!!!) I'm really disappointed with the "shrimp scampi" I ordered. I opened the box (which was all soggy on the bottom, so I turned it upside down as pictured to dry it out), and noticed that I paid $17 for a dish with dry linguine, unseasoned shrimp, and a "sauce" that resembles dirty sink water floating at the bottom. It looks and smells disgusting. I'm definitely throwing this out. I hate leaving a negative review, but I hate wasting money more. And until whatever recipe being used is corrected, people should be aware that this is what they get when they order this dish. read more

I've been going here for almost 4 years now. The food is great and the service was always good. Today I ordered 2 pizzas and 1 salad at 6:23 PM, I was told 40-45 minutes for pickup which is fine, what is not fine is I get there a little later than they say expecting the food to be ready to go (50 minutes after the order was placed) and the guy making the pizza in the back said he is going to start making my pizza next after the pizza he is currently working on... I received my takeout order at 7:35....I'm sorry but 25+ minutes after the time they tell you it will be ready Is totally unacceptable. This is not the first time. Very disappointed. read more

Only one complaint that I have is for takeout or delivery orders , please make sure you check each order before sending/giving them out. They got a part of our order wrong and we found it out at home. We had to call, drive back, drop off the wrong one and pick up the right one . By the time we got home , our other food was all cold. We are extreme Pizza People and being from Brooklyn, NY and were overly excited to see on the menu, a Sicilian pie with Red sauce and parmigiana cheese! It's one of our family favorites! We haven't had in Year's since moving here from NYC, soo to say we were excited would be an understatement .... but idk maybe the delivery guy didn't care for protecting the food during delivery but our food came out sloppy,.. The sauce was all over the lid of the box soo When we opened the box, sauce and parmigiana cheese were all on the lid, leaving the dough with barely anything but dough... My mom jumped into momma cooking duty and tried to fix it as much as possible with her own sauce and cheese. it went down without any complaints, and we could only imagine how great it would be if delivered properly... Once again, thank you, we're not the type to complain and we always Tip the drivers very well but the point in ordering food for my mom and dad was to give my mom a break from the kitchen. Every single time I call and order from this place I have an issue with my order or with the delivery being 5 hours long or the attitude I recieve when I call back to complain about whatever was messed up. The owner got on the phone the last time and instead of resolving the issue flat out told me "I don't know what to tell you sir". These types of places get big egos because they get busy on weekends and get cocky and don't treat all their customers fairly. You want good food yeah they got it but your more than likely going to have to heat your food up and their customer service sucks. Since I'm still finding my way around (though I went to college here from 1971-1975.... yep, the good old days of short jean skirts, embroidered peasant blouses, platform shoes and it was safe to hitchhike everywhere with another girlfriend or alone!) New Haven as an adult! I haven't explored downtown since all of the funky inexpensive shops have been replaced by crazily expensive shops that actually have the types of clothing that really speak to my soul.. with the exception of Fashionista my very favorite place since I love vintage styles and quality which lasts for years and years. Anyway...to the point, after trotting into and back from downtown across the Quinnipiac River, I am loving the East Haven/New Haven community after living and working in Westport for so long. I was really starting to believe there was something seriously weird about me that everyone else could see! I really was afraid to open my mouth to even have a pleasant conversation while checking my books out of the library, or greeting a customer while I was working retail in a high end store! But when I finally got the courage up to go out in public and chat a bit... it was Gia Marie's people who were so welcoming and kind, finally getting me to realize that there is nothing wrong with me, nobody wants something from knowing me or a favor! It was because of the folks and food at Gia Marie's that fed me and healed me with their loving and kindness! If you're feeling glum and need a feeling of family and delicious pizza, or ginormous calzones the size of your head just go on up and say Mary with the black dog sent you, then just melt right in! But voila, being back up here, everyone is so responsive if you start asking them where to go for blah blah and you wind up having a nice chat! read more
