My wife and I just bought our 1st house. We moved from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 4 bedroom house in Galewood. Usually, we rent a U-Haul truck and beg our family and friends to help us move and we feed them. We chose not to go that route for once, and let me tell you, I couldn't be happier with the decision. Salvador and Julio showed up at 8am on Saturday, December 14th, 2013 which happened to have been a snowy, horrendous day. We packed all of our small stuff into boxes in advance and had those ready to go. They came in, moved all the boxes to their truck (which they provide and was big) and wrapped all our furniture and tv's. They loaded and unloaded in 5 hours and even managed to do so without staining our white carpets. They threw down blankets (that they provided) and masterfully positioned everything exactly where we wanted. It was under $300 with tip and everything! PS: My wife and I were on 2 hours of sleep from the night before and had a little miscommunication with giving them money. My wife paid them and gave them each a $30 tip. She then handed me a wad of money and told me "this is the tip money." She claims she said, "this is what's left from the tip money." Opps. Long story longer, I inadvertently gave them an extra $120 and we didn't realize it till the next day! My wife called the very polite girl who makes reservations and told her what happened. Honestly, we thought we weren't going to get our money back. I was wrong. Not only did we get our money back but she dropped it off to us herself in less than an hour! Sorry for the long review but I had to let you know the deal: These guys are honest, polite, professional, timely and take a lot of the stress of moving off your shoulders. You can be a fool if you want to and look elsewhere or you can take my word for it and hire these guys. My wife works for Coldwell Banker and plans on recommending these guys to all her clients now. I had an incredible experience with Pack-Men Movers last week. My moving situation was a very difficult one that came right down to the wire and involved many moving pieces and very tight timing. Salvador and Julio were incredible. They were very professional and more efficient than any movers I've ever experienced. Not only that, but they were exceptionally polite and helpful, even offering to drive me to the storage unit we were taking my things to so I wouldn't have to take a cab. The entire move was over much quicker than I ever could have anticipated; we were finished in about an hour and forty-five minutes, from the moment they reached my apartment to the minute we closed the door at the storage unit. My move involved another portion two days later, from the storage unit to my new apartment. I was elated to see Salvador and Julio back to help me out for this move as well. I had to run a few errands that day, and felt no worries dropping my key off with them and having them lock up the storage unit and meet me at my new apartment with my things. Once again, they were incredibly efficient. This entire move again took just under two hours. Moving can be incredibly stressful, but Salvador and Julio helped make this move a million times easier on me. These guys were not only the best price but the service was excellent as well. The consistent reviews tell the tale. They came ready to go and had a game plan as soon as they took an inventory on what they needed to pickup. Not only were they fast and efficient but extremely careful. We hired Pack-Men Movers for our move last Saturday and were very pleased! We moved from Roscoe Village to Lincoln Park (about 3 miles) in 4 hours. The price is extremely reasonable, the best I found in the city. And on top of that, Salvador and Julio were great! They were very down to business and efficient. We had many fragile items to move and they treated them with care. After unpacking, we found nothing scratched or broken. I was also really pleased with their furniture wrap job and the use of moving blankets when appropriate. I originally booked with someone else but his truck broke down 2 weeks before my move, I was scrambling to find movers. Pack-Men not only were available on my move day but they also were the least expensive option. Salvador, Julio and Alejandro arrived on time, were efficient, had plastic wrap/blankets to keep everything safe during the move. When at my new place, they were sensitive to where things should be put and even put all the furniture that they took apart back together (not an easy feat for Ikea stuff...). Literally just got done with a move with Fernando and Jermaine and they were awesome! My husband and I had a terrible experience using Pack-Men Movers. The movers showed up on time, moved our belongings and moved our belongings from our apartments into our house within the time frame that was estimated. When they moved our things, they were sure to point out any damage our furniture had before they moved anything. That was fine and to be expected. As it was moving day, my husband and I were a bit distracted and busy as the crew moved our things into a new home and we did not pay close attention to the condition of our furniture as it made its way in. We should have. When the crew was leaving, we tipped them and they wrote down their names- Salvador, Tony, and Orlando- and asked us to give them a good review on Yelp because they might get extra money floated their way if they received a favorable review. Sure. No problem. The problems started when we started unpacking. We found that several of our items were damaged. I am not a moving expert, but have moved several times in the city and have never incurred damage. It was clear that our belongings were not secured in the truck. Please refer to my pictures. Two pots for our plants were broken and the drip tray to one was completely missing. One coffee table was banged up. Our paper shredder was missing the button to operate it and the top is completely cracked. The worst? Our less than 2 year old $3000 Tempurpedic mattress is filthy on the side and has runs in it because they did not properly wrap it. I contacted the company owner, Jeanette Ramos. She had me fill out a damage report. I explained to her that her crew never once reported to us any of the damage they caused, took our tip money and asked us for a positive review on Yelp. This feels unethical to me. She stood by her crew. In my opinion, her attitude showed very little remorse for the behavior of her crew. The total cost for the items that were damaged was around $5000.00. Because of the agreement you sign, they are only on the hook for 30 cents per pound for damaged items. After some arguing, she did agree to also refund our tip money and increased the damage amount a slight bit. However, she refused to go above $210.00. I am also a small business owner. If I do wrong, I am horrified and try to do right by those I serve. Ms. Ramos could not be bothered to right this issue with us. I opened a complaint with the Illinois Department of Commerce so that this will go on record to prevent the same from happening to other people. There is very little protecting you. If your things get damaged, they can pay you next to nothing, keep most of your moving fees and still come out ahead while you are out significant amount. Ms. Ramos was still unwilling to increase reimbursement through arbitration with the state. That shows how much she valued us as customers. Our only course of action left was to take them to small claims court or to take the $210.00. As someone who is self-employed, I cannot take the time off, so we just took the settlement, even though we felt it was appalling. Our claim is on file so that others can see it if they search with the state. I encourage others who have had similar experiences to do the same. This company, in my opinion, behaves unethically. read more

We started our move in Chicago late because our building would not give us the elevator as promised. The movers were there on time and very good at packing up furniture. When we offered to help they said it was up to us and didn't stop once to dilly dally. They got stuck in our elevator and did not complain once. Unfortunately I think they and we underestimated how much we had so the move took 2 hours longer than anticipated which was too bad because we had to pay a lot more. They were helpful, efficient, and careful with our stuff. We only wish the hiccups of the move could have been ironed out, such as expecting a longer move by they packed the truck very carefully and nothing so far broke on the drive. Our fine china and glass boxes were all intact and even or larger items were okay. We would recommend these guys for future moves in Chicago. read more

Julio and Edder (spell check?) were great! They called me on their way and showed up early. I was quoted for 2-3 hours and we were fully done in 2.5! They took care to wrap my stuff well and make sure nothing got damaged. We probably could have been done sooner but they were helping me arrange my furniture where I wanted it! If this review were based just on the actual movers themselves, I would have given them a five, no questions asked! My movers were Edgar, Roberto, and Tony and they did an amazing job! My roommate and I were really concerned about our things being held overnight and about the moving process in general. But they were quick, efficient, and very friendly! They shrink wrapped our furniture and used packing blankets for our furniture so that nothing would get damaged. Overall, they did a fantastic job! My only issue was actually with the people working at the office. They DID NOT inform me that for pick up and drop off you MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF TWO HOURS. So, we ended up paying an extra $90 for an hour we didn't even use. We only found this out AFTER THE FACT. So for future reference, be aware that you need to have them for AT LEAST FOUR HOURS. Otherwise you'll end up paying extra money unnecessarily. Edgar, Roberto, and Tony get five stars from us though!!! read more

We hired the Pack-Men Movers on February 29, 2020. The movers arrived ahead of schedule but they called to confirm if it was ok to come early. The 3 movers, Antone, Roberto and Edder were spot on. They quickly and safely went through the apartment with speed and accuracy. All went well, so well that they finished ahead of schedule. We were very pleased with the company and well as these movers. We found ourselves in need of using the company a few days later. On March 5, 2020 Rey and Frankie arrived to complete our move. Once again they moved through the apartment and they finished ahead of schedule. But upon unpacking we did notice some damage was done. We filed a claim and they promptly replied. I've moved a lot. This was the worst moving experience of my life. Did they work hard? Yes Did they do a good job? NO Would I recommend them? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I moved during the week instead of the weekend and feel like I got the inexperienced B Team. They wrapped my furniture in plastic wrap and then slammed it against walls, against other furniture in the truck and against the walls and railings in the stairwell of the new place. I hired 4 movers yet large items were literally dragged up the stairs by 1 person while the others were downstairs or outside. There was not ONE SINGLE ITEM that was undamaged or just out right broken other than boxes. I saw the crappy job they were doing and moved many things myself which defeats the purpose of hiring movers. I had the new place painted before moving in and asked them 100+ times to keep their dirty hands off the walls and not lean anything against them before giving up because they basically did whatever they wanted. Not only did my movers show up as promised but with such professionalism and speed they were able to get my move under the time estimated. I picked Pack-Men after reading the reviews on Yelp and thought to try and also the time schedule fits. small moving with short distance 800?? and the guy kind of forced me to give good tips. 1) I booked for 3 guys, turned up to be 4. 2) I worked as the 5th moving person voluntarily not just direct, but actually moving, jog in between to save money and time. 3) They folded my mattress, and the Queen size mattress is broke down in the middle. 3) 2 Luxury bedframes making squeaking noises , broken wood, lost screws. 4) Rude, do not take shoes off after I said it's brand new carpets. Overall, slow moving, expensive, damaged mattress and frame. Just because I have an average furniture, they still need same level of care as expensive ones. Just because the new place seems luxury doesn't mean I can afford longer hours of moving expenses! Just because I'm a girl and a foreigner who they think I don't speak English well, can take advantage of the move, damaged mattress and bed frame, get impatient when I told them where to place the furniture. Disappointed at the reviews since the movers care to help out the native/local so they don't get in trouble and bad reviews! It's so unpleasant that I'd get the word of mouth out to friends and collogues. I used Pack Men movers to pack and store my entire home into a storage unit on June 28th.  The crew that day was organized with each mover having a distinct job to help streamline the process.  Due to my experience on 6/28 and with goal that moving the same items to our new home would be smoother by using the same company, I choose to use Pack men again July 20th.   From the first second, it was clear that the truck that was brought was significantly smaller and would not hold all our items.  The movers however acted confident that it would be possible.  They attempted to pack everything very tightly but it was clear that it would not be possible.  Extra time was spent trying to pack our items very strategically and on top of that it took 3 trips going from our storage unit to the new house.  To save time at our house, the crew moved quickly to unload, even running up the stairs with boxes.  While they completed the move in the estimated time, we have since found many items broken.  I realize that moves have causalities but the amount of items damage is very disappointing.  We moved from MI 3 years ago and had no broken items.  I have yet to make it through all the boxes but my count thus far of damaged items:  8x8 Pyrex dish, martini glass, 2 coffee mugs, 1 dinner plate, stereo receiver, Instant Pot, Custom Framed Diploma, flowered wall hanging frame and 3 large wall frames, dresser and the walls of our stairwell and railing.  I cannot help but believe that if the correct truck been brought would have made it more safely.  I cannot recommend Pack Men movers or have confidence in them for my next move. With that said, they were prompt to give me a claim to file and repair walls but hardly worth the 30 cents per pound. read more

I've used pack-men movers 5-6 times in the last 7 years and always came back because the movers were super quick, courteous, and careful. I had a 5 hour, 2-men move quoted yesterday from a storage unit to a condo. Got a call saying they had 3 guys, i thought, sweet! This will be less time than we anticipated. I was so very wrong. Here's what went WRONG: - driver (Adam) hit the cement post outside of the storage garage door - paint flies everywhere. - driver (Adam) had 11'6 clearance on the truck and 11'6 clearance to the 3rd level storage unit-he decided not to try and now we have to run items from a 10x20 storage unit down long hallways and using the elevator. - about an hour into this move down hallways and an elevator, I see a competitor truck, same size, same clearance (I know because I asked the driver) pull into the garage, Go to the same floor we were moving from, unload their truck in about 1.5 hours and leave. Meanwhile, we're still only about 1/2 way through. - driver (Adam) moves at half speed with lots of talking and texting breaks (when he thought no one was looking). The other two are trying to compensate for the lack of the '3rd mover'. - driver (Adam) decides not to pull into the loading dock that was reserved for the move, rather block the alley where neighbors are trying to get to their garage was better suited for him. As they struggle to pass, Adam begins heavily cursing and raising his arms at them ('we're an f***ing moving company!')- all I'm saying is, we're in downtown Chicago, loading docks prevent the hours of inconvenience he has just caused. - A box marked 'Fragile' means it's okay to drop it, then acknowledge it says fragile, and then ask where to put it... thanks Adam, I think you just broke my dining plate set (just to clarify, that was heavy sarcasm with it being 'okay' and the 'thanks') ‍ - A dolly thumping down steps at the end of the hallway is the last thing you want to hear, then later see that it's also got boxes marked 'Fragile' on it. Again, Adam was the master mind behind that - it's 6 steps, take the fragile boxes off. - towards the end of the move, Adam tells me 'i sit the boxes there and they run 'em... this is why I like working for 20 year olds' .... the problem is, he stopped sitting boxes anywhere and the other two guys had to come back to the truck for another load anyway - This morning, I call pack-men again, talk (several times) to Jose, who witnessed the crazy storage room debacle and I requested a couple movers only (no truck) to finish what was not finished in yesterday's move. After all of the above stuff i told him, he still tried to justify that everything that went wrong was caused by something else, even telling me it was an 11'7 clearance truck, when '11'6' was marked clearly ON the truck (just like on every other truck). He verified a lot of what happened, offered to take off the hour of travel for the movers if I hired them to come back again. I understand defending your company (like i said I'm a repeat customer, but there's zero excuses for laziness and disrespect, especially in a time-driven job. HERE'S what went RIGHT: - HECTOR! - REY! That's why I'm giving this review 2 stars, one for each of them. Those two movers worked their tails off to get the job done. Moving around Adam and they pushed through. HECTOR AND REY ARE ROCKSTARS! It's a shame that the 3rd mover held them back. You're only as strong as your weakest link. read more

We used this company on our recent move. The communication was great, they were on time but that's where the pros ended. As we are unpacking most of our furniture has damages. I understand a scratch here and a ding there but we've replaced some of our furniture because they were that damaged. There are also major dings and scratches on our walls and doors. They started moving pretty quick and as time passed by it seemed like they kept getting slower, a few times I went out to see where they were. I had to go out and rent a Uhaul because they didnt move everything because there wasn't any room left in the truck they brought. I explained all that needed to be moved and they said theyre truck could handle it (we moved a bunch of boxes ourselves prior to the move and it still wasnt enough) I was hoping the reviews were legit but due to my experience, I would not use or recommend them. read more

I found Pack-Men by randomly searching for moving companies near my apartment. I stumbled upon Pack-Men and requested a quote. They sent back an amazing number and I booked it right away. I was emailing back and forth with Jeanny R.and she answered all of my questions quickly and she was so nice! The day of the move we received a call from Miguel asking if he could come 30 mins early...SCORE...we were ready to go! He came in, took inventory, got his crew and went to work. We used Pack-Men Movers on 12/2/19 for a move from Oak Park to Forest Park. We were quoted an arrival time between 9-10. The movers arrived promptly at 9. For our one bedroom move, we were quoted that it would take 3 hours total and that is how long it took, minus the half hour break the movers took, which they well deserved. Roberto, Adam and Hector were efficient and did an excellent job of organizing and wrapping our larger furniture items. I also appreciate the follow up from the office, from the initial email quote, to the follow up email a day prior to the move and the follow up email after the move was completed. If we were to move again we would definitely use Pack-Men Movers. read more

I'm not the easiest person to please. I'm very particular, and can be described as a precisionist. With that said, I have absolutely nothing but great things to say about PackMen. They called me before arriving to let me know they were on their way (much appreciated) even though they were on time. They handled my 70-pound air conditioner like it were a newborn puppy -- they were very careful and gentle with my belongings, but swift and efficient at the same time. We had a great experience with them, from initial quote thru final move. An hour before the move, we decided to add a 3rd person to help and Jeannette was very responsive and accommodated without fuss. The moving crew, Salvador, Hector and Daniel were awesome! We had some issues with the service elevator at our new place (which we discovered after they had unloaded and had prepped to load it).
