Total waste of money! I ordered a half sheet cake, I asked for yellow cake and butter cream icing, I got white cake and whipped cream icing. The cake tasted home made not bakery made. None of the kids at the party liked the cake, it was all wasted on their plates and I couldn't stomach a sample of it. I have half of it left and it's going in the garbage. The only reason I ordered from here is because they will do any picture on a cake, the picture did not turn out like I imagined and the transfer sheet did not taste good at all. I never had cake from here before but the stars on this place were high so I decided to give it a shot. When I first ordered I asked for a sample and they stated they do not give samples. Also I ordered a donut the day I ordered and the day I picked up the cake, it was the same exact donut and it tasted completely different from the first to the last time. One of my favorite places to pick up a dessert with lunch. Everything in this bakery is relatively affordable, and even cheaper than bigger box stores like Giant Eagle or Walmart, but the quality and value you get for the price is just unbeatable. I visit several times a year, and each time is different. I've had a handful of great and strange experiences with their pastries, but overall very good! I would recommend coming in earlier to get the freshest baked goods as the ones that are there in the afternoon can be a little rough around the edges. Try the donuts, cookies, and brownies. If you need a cake for a small birthday event, you can pick up one for about $5-$8 that serves 4-6 people. read more

While we are on the topic, (see previous Yelp!) I figured I should give a little shout out to Paddy Cake as well. Paddy Cake is an old school bakery, and it may not be one of your new-fangled bakeries like the French joint in Squirrel Hill with pastries that you can't pronounce that look delicious but end up tasting like old parchment, but this place is a great bakery! You will find homemade breads and rolls, cookies, cakes, pies, along with some very delectable pastries, all with names you can read and pronounce. Some of my favorites are the cherry & cheese turnovers- they're called double or half/half or something- because they have a cherry side and a cheese side. Best of both worlds! And the breads & rolls, of course I am a bread girl.... They have the best chocolate thumbprints, hands down! And even though I am NOT a doughnut person, I find myself nibbling on a doughnut when the BF brings them home. If you like grandma's old fashioned baked goods, you'll like this place, if you like le almond croissants or le chocolat whatsacallit, then maybe not. read more

I am a huge dessert fan and love local bakeries. My favorite thing to order from Paddy Cake are the doughnuts-love the iced sprinkle ones. I always call the day before to put my order in because they do run out of certain kinds early. It is also nice to have the doughnuts boxed up and not have to wait while you pick out the kinds you want. The staff is always friendly on the phone and my order is always correct and waiting for me. Sometimes I stop to try a cookie-they are so tempting. The cookies are delicious and a variety of kinds are available. The one thing I do not especially care for is their cupcakes/cake. I like a very dense cake and their cake is on the light, fluffy side and the buttercream icing is very average. read more

Wow... tasty morsels....luckily I had the privilege of tasting them before I actually visited the shop.... my wife and I came to town to meet up with family from Ohio, and the place we were staying had blueberry muffins here for us, so Saturday morning while everyone else was sleeping, I walked down to pick up a sampling for everyone. If I could rate this bakery zero stars, I would. I called there on a Tuesday morning around 10:30 to order a large sheet cake for a party to celebrate a friend getting a really great new job. The young woman who answered the phone, told me to call back in ten minutes because they were "really busy." This should have been an immediate red flag about the quality of their customer service, but I called back anyway. I gave her my contact information and all of the details about the size of the cake, flavor of the batter and icing. I then started asking about the decorations i wanted. After each question, the woman would put down the phone, yell out my questions to someone in the background, then get back on the phone to answer my question. After the third time this happened, I asked if I could just speak to the decorator myself, to eliminate this back-and-forth routine. I was told that the decorator was "on break" and to call back in 20 minutes. So, 20 minutes later, I called back and a different person answered the phone, a very unfriendly woman. When I asked if I could speak to the decorator, she said, "NO, you can't speak to the decorator, I'm the manager and I can answer any questions you have." I proceeded to explain to her how I wanted the cake to be decorated, and found that each "specialty decoration" would be an additional $ 20. These were not air-brushed photo's, just an image of something made out of icing. After agreeing to spend an additional $ 40 for two specialty decorations, (which they demanded a credit card deposit for), she said they could decorate the border of the cake with flowers at no additional cost, since that was a standard decorations. I asked could they do some balloons along with the flowers, since that was also a standard decoration and was told no, that would be an additional $ 20. So now the a sheet cake for 60 people was going to cost $ 130! At which point, I said I would have to think about it and call back. The manager then said, "Ma'am, you just can't keep calling us back." To which I replied, "No problem, I won't be calling you back because I'm calling another bakery instead." And then she hung up on me. I called The Party Cake Store in Brookline, where they could not have been nicer and more accommodating, and were able to do the cake I wanted with no additional costs and no advance deposit. I have no idea how a place like Paddy Cake Bakery has been able to stay in business for as long as they have with that poor level of customer service, but I would not recommend them at all. read more

Walked in today to pick up a last minute birthday cake. I asked the young woman at the counter to show me which of the quarter sheet cakes were chocolate. She showed me two options and I chose one. I asked if they could write "Happy birthday" with my son's name on it. He has a somewhat unusual first name, so I spelled it a couple of times, and then I wrote it down for them. The woman showed me the cake briefly before boxing it up. The writing was pretty sloppy but at that point I was running late so I didn't complain and took it home. Once I got home I took a good look and realized that not only did it look like a 2nd grader wrote on it, but my child's name was wrong...after spelling it and even writing it out! The "icing on the cake" was when we cut into it and discovered the cake was not chocolate, but marble. It was also very dry. The other thing that stood out to me is when a couple came into the store. The lady at the counter asked if she could help them. They said they had an appointment to taste wedding cakes. The employee said "You're going to have to sit over there" like it was some kind of inconvenience. read more

I am always getting donuts for our office here at Paddy Cake and everybody loves them the best. My other coworkers often go to Dunkin Donuts or Mister Donuts or some other neighborhood bakery. The other donuts are delicious. However, Paddy Cake donuts totally ROCK. Their sheet cakes are beyond beautiful!!!! I do feel that the are somewhat overpriced. They are super delicious, but are somewhat overpriced! I went into patty cake today at to get another dozen of donuts for the office! I stopped in to patty cake today at to get another does it have been that's for the office! I would like to say I had the best service ever! They as usual very very busy! Becky took and filled my order. During the entire transaction, while filling my order, Becky was such a sweet person. I walked in the other day after going to the barber across the street and made the mistake of asking what was in the filling of the cannoli. My response was, 'like that riccotta and stuff'. Recently was in the Bloomfield area and thought I would stop by for a donut. I ordered a long john which looked pretty good. Unfortunately it wasn't. I am pretty sure they simply took a hot dog bun and fried it, then put icing on top. I ate maybe a bite or two before offering it to a coworker. ordered a cake last monday had to wait for the cake decorator to come in tuesday to see if they were able to make this 8 inch birthday cake for my son's birthday after being told yes they could make it they requested I make a deposit so I had a doctor's appointment on they agree I could just come Thursday to pay for the whole cake that was needed for the following Monday so I went in Thursday 45 minutes til my doctor's appointment waited over 20 minutes while 3 different people looked for the order I placed on tuesday paid 38 dollars for the cake and also got a half dozen brownies was asked what time monday was good for me we went with noon so monday comes noon passes I drive to bloomfield for my cake there's a movie being shot and no where to park from friendship ave all down liberty ave so I park 4 block away am currently 9 months pregnant get to the bakery am helped by a young lady who looks on the rack at the cakes to not see my cake wait for her to ask an associate of hers which the lady replied it wasnt done yet so at this point I'm extremely irritated with the whole situation cause they have my phone number not once had the respect to call me and let me know anything about my cake not being ready by noon which I could've waited for if need be since they are open until 6 that's how bad I wanted this cake for my child's birthday never reached out another associate then comes to tell me the cake decorator never showed up for work she was having babysitter problems would I be able to wait until tomorrow for a cake i needed for today or a simple phone call could've given me an option if I wanted to wait asked my son if he wanted to waited or saved me gas of not driving around Bloomfield for 15 minutes trying to park I'm let down I do business with this bakery before every trip I make to west Penn have ordered cakes from them on many different occasions & this was by FAR one of the most unprofessional experiences I've ever had with a place of business I got my money back which was nice of them but left me to find a cake with 3 hours until my son was expecting his birthday cake read more
