I really wanted to love this place. I just can't get any form of consistency here. We ordered nut rolls, very dry and overpriced. I've ordered cookies, very hard, not tasty. I've ordered donuts, that's where the two stores come from generally, they are pretty good but often times they are stale. Their pepperoni rolls are also good. I love the donuts here- lots of icing and frosting ! Sometimes the workers can be snippy but usually pretty nice. The donut holes (yeast and glazed) are the absolute best. Definitely affordable. If you're getting a lot of donuts/ cake I would order ahead to ensure it is fresh. read more

Dave's Terrace bakery is an awesome little bakery tucked in the South Hills. The bakers also often really have fun with their work and create random animals out of bread or cupcakes and it's just really cute. Their donuts are a staple in our lives as they are a perfect treat to take the vets office or friends and family. The pastries are equally delish and I really appreciate the cake/icing ratios for their cake. Everyone is always so friendly and kind when you visit. You have to get there early though because they sell out of donuts very quickly. read more

A small bakery in South Hills on Brownsville Road. However, they have a huge selection of baked goods, cakes and donuts. In addition to the sweet items, they sell homemade pierogies and pepperoni rolls. I went back recently to try some other items. I chose a chocolate cover creme filled donut and a half dozen Hershey kiss cookies. They were both delicious. Huge cookie trays are available for the holiday. I've been a customer of Dave's Terrace Bakery for many years. When I was in high school and college, I would stop by every morning for a yummy treat. Over the years, my favorites have been the bear claws, cream horns and thumbprint cookies. I also love their birthday cakes. I always order a half sheet cake for family birthdays to be sure I have enough left for several breakfasts and snacks. Yes, cake is truly the breakfast of champions. :-) Some reviewers have mentioned their disappointment in the "limited selection" of items at times. My husband placed an order on 12/27 for a medium size new year pretzel for him and I and one for another family member at $23 each, I asked him to call back to change the order to 2 smalls at 13.50 each as we would not need all that for 2 people but the owner would not allow us to change the order.. I'd known for years that were was a bakery inside this shopping plaza in Baldwin Borough, but it wasn't until a recent trip into the South Hills that I convinced Kay to take on a "side-mission" as the gamers say. First of all, I found nothing to be "hard as a rock" or "completely tasteless" as another reviewer stated. Instead the chocolate log cake I bought had a plush, moist body and a smooth, pale buttercream icing that was neither overly rich nor bland. The same basically goes for the cornmeal muffin-like chocolate chip cookies I took home. Now a day later, the cookies did become somewhat tougher (10 seconds in the microwave can remedy that), but upon tearing open the bag that day, each yellow puck was as soft as lard and was well-loaded with chocolate morsels, hints of salt making every bite all the sweeter. Also indulged in were spongy macaroons and Easter-themed "gobs" that were coated with a fudgy ganache and stuffed with that same buttercream and chocolate cake. I spoke with the proprietor as I was settling up and was told that Dave's has been in the area for over 17 years. That's an awful long time for a delicious little secret like this to stay hidden, Dave's Terrace Bakery being yet another uncovered jewel within Pittsburgh's suburbs. Come on out. I had planned a gender reveal party for Friday February 10, 2017. The previous week, I contacted Dave's Terrace Bakery to ask if they make gender reveal cakes. The associate I spoke with was very familiar with them and told me that they have done those kinds of cakes before and would color the inside icing pink or blue. I had my ultrasound on Thursday February 9. I took a sealed envelope to the bakery that day and placed an order for the cake. While placing the order, I stressed that that inside filling of the cake would either be pink or blue depending on what gender was listed inside of the sealed envelope. Again, the associate told me it would be no problem and thought this was a great way to announce a new baby's gender. The cake was to be picked up on Friday afternoon. We were informed then that there would be an extra charge for coloring the inside filling of the cake. Although we had requested the card and envelope back, the owner/baker threw it away. It would have been a cool piece for a baby book but not a big deal because we would find out in a few hours at our party! So Friday night we have a party at our home with friends and family. To our surprise, as we cut into our cake, we see pink and blue. Totatally confused, we rip into the cake to see that nothing had been colored on the inside! The center icing part of the cake was totally white!! The pink and blue we were seeing was from simply cutting through the top decorations. After ripping the cake totally apart, we found a very thin small section colored pink. I immediately contacted the bakery to figure out what went wrong. Being a Friday night they were obviously closed. I received a call back at 10:30 Friday night, which is when the baker and owner come in to do the next days baking and cake decorating. At no point did I receive an apology. I was told that the baker who did my cake was the owner and he was too busy to speak to me. I was given numerous excuses as to why the cake was messed up such as the baker works 14 hour days, they can't color center icing because it bleeds through cakes and they can't turn back clocks to change what happened. The bakery did end up refunding my money and gave me a gift certificate. I find it very deceitful that they would charge extra to color icing when they never colored it to begin with. I would NEVER recommend this bakery for any type of event. While receiving my refund the employees saw nothing wrong with what happened. In fact some of them felt that it was funny. I would never trust this bakery with any type of important event that can't be recreated. The owner was correct in saying that we can't go back and change what happened but it's very unfortunate that they ruined our surprise. I have a healthy baby on the way, which is all that truly matters. Just giving a warning to others so that their special event isn't ruined like ours was! read more

Horrible management! Purchased a birthday cake that the icing slid off the cake. I took a pic of the cake because they were now closed. Attempted going to the store, calling the store, several times! Was never able to speak to a manager because they were either not there or "busy." Manager never called me back. After calling for 1 1/2 weeks, I was told on the phone that I would get a "couple dollars back!" Completely unacceptable! I recommend this place just for locals trying to get a quick treat. When you walk in it has somewhat of a dreary environment. I could tell by the look of some donuts they were frozen, and looked in harsh words very pathetic. Another thing is there cakes they seem very inconsistent. Whoever decorates the cakes does very well, but beyond the decorations the cakes look rough, cracked, and old. I got a lady lock which was recommended to me, a bear claw, and a danish. The lady lock was stale, the bear claw was stale, but the danish was very good. The saleswoman was a little rude, but the salesman was very kind. Maybe I just came on the wrong day. Finished with daves bakery. My cake looked like a child decorated it, I was embarrassed to take it to a retirement party, but didn't have the time to go somewhere else. It was supposed to be an airbrushed golf course with sand traps, green, flag and what I got was not even funny. Half was white icing the other half green. The extent of the golf theme was a golf ball and 2 tees. Of which, I'm sure the owner, Dave, found the ball on the golf course as he sells bags of used balls in the bakery!! I called 30 hrs before my pick up time to ask for a 1/2 sheet instead of the 1/4 sheet and was rudely treated on the phone by an employee there. She said I needed to call 2 days prior because the cake was already baked! So much for "freshness" , which also explains why a few of my past ordered cakes were dry. Shame on me for going back. Worst customer service I have ever received on the phone and in the store today. Several customers all saw the decorating on cake and said to go to bethel bakery!!! I have been going to Dave's Terrace Bakery since I was a little girl. It was located in the old Brentwood Shopping Center. I have the fondest memories of walking up my hill with my neighbor to get a donut or other delicious item. I am NEVER disappointed in anything that I buy from the bakery. It is always fresh. The ice box cakes are absolutely amazing. When I have friends in from out of town, I always have a cake from Dave's for them to enjoy. There is a Dave's bakery cake at every special event I have. I usually stop for bread, but their chocolate drop cookies are great and their oatmeal raisin cookies are fantastic. Their cakes, pastries and donuts are decent. I recently moved to the area & was excited to try the bakery. I stopped in for some donuts. The girl working the counter was very pleasant and offered my children each a free cookie while we looked around. The donuts were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I would like to try their bread and cake, but after reading the reviews, I'm not sure if I want to order a cake there. I do like to spend my money at small businesses like this, but I really wasn't impressed. The girl at the counter is the reason I gave them 3 stars. She was very pleasant and helpful & my kids were thrilled to get a free cookie! I must say that Dunkin Donuts are much better. It is just about the same distance from home, so I'm not sure if I will return for donuts. We may try something else there though since they are so close to home! read more

First time shopper at Dave's today----my husband bit into the donut and announced "good donut". Also tried the single pepperoni roll---very good and most visually appealing. Moms these would be so great for everyone's lunches. They do take credit cards----with no minimum dollar amount like another near-by bakery. The workers were very pleasant and helpful.
