It feels like you are in an underground ship with aquarium as soon as you enter. It's an immersive tiki bar experience. Lots of beautiful details throughout. The night sky ceiling lighting was my favorite but the grotto was also neat, so was the peacock stained window, and the neat effects throughout the night. The front bay window undersea decor is beautiful too. Staff was nice. Only thing was my drink was far too acidic, I had the Banana Be which was too sharp. I ended up switching drinks with my friend. My friends and I stumbled upon this bar and didn't even know it was a tiki bar until we saw all the decor on the inside. The vibes of this place would definitely take you to the set of the pirates of the Caribbean. The drinks were also delicious. There was such variety and so many items to choose from. Everything from festive fruit flavored cocktails to the classics they pretty much had it all here. We got the scorpion bowl and the banana life. The banana life was an individual drink that was creamy yet aromatic and had a large banana fragrance and taste. Excellent. The scorpion bowl is similar to a fish bowl. OMG, I have been to this bar several times since it's so close to my work office. I always went around 5/6PM which isn't busy. However, I went on a Saturday at 8:30PM over this weekend and how have I not known they had more seating in the back with cool decors! Pagan Idle is a wonderland of tiki. You enter in front and are instantly in this incredibly immersive space that just keeps getting better as you make your way upstairs and to the rear. There are two bars, tikis, waterfalls, ponds, hidden seating areas.... It's sensory overload.... in an amazing way! They have a huge catalog of rums... so many. I was jealous! Came in for a drink before a show and ended up being in an end-of-conference line. Tiki drinks are notoriously complex so I didn't expect the line to move fast, but given the line that was winding through the back bar, the first entrance bar, and onto the sidewalk, I was shocked to see there was only one newly hired bartender doing her best behind the bar, as the other bartender took his break and disappeared. She did a great job and about 45 minutes after getting in line, we got our one drink each (The Bird and The Daywalker) and rushed out to make our show. Maggie did an incredible job mixing me one of the most delicious drinks I have had the pleasure of sipping, right down to the fresh garnishes they used to present a beautiful cocktail. The atmosphere at Pagan Idol mixes classic Tiki with an exquisite selection of rum you will spend half a decade trying to sort your way through. The combination of amazing seating options and classical island decor makes anyone want to sail away for long hours to escape the office. The long hours of code my team and I have been grinding through, building tools that may one day replace us, make a place like Pagan Idol irreplaceable. One more thing that in today's society is inestimable is the wonderful service I received from the people at Pagan Idol. We love tiki so when we wanted to grab a drink before dinner and this was only a block away it was a done deal. The outside is small and unassuming so we were pleasantly suprised when we entered and saw how large and well themed it was. We were a group of 6 and were able to able to nab a themed booth near the back. At 5 pm, there was bar service only (not sure if they switch to wait staff at some point). I stumbled upon this bar while walking in the financial district, and it is a labyrinth of tiki! This place is huge, and decorated gorgeously. Everything is a sight to see, and you can fit multiple large parties. I'm sure you even could host a wedding. The drink I got had lemongrass in it with coconut milk and it was delicious, and not too sweet. The lemongrass flavor wasn't as prominent as I would have hoped, but it was still a very good drink. The flourishes to the drink to make it look beautiful was the cherry on top. I definitely would want to have my birthday here next year! read more

Pagan Idol is a tiki bar located in the Financial District part of SF and the owners are the same ones who opened Bourbon & Branch so you know you're going to get good stuff here. They also have a sister bar called Rickhouse which is right across the corner. I came here right when they opened at 4:30pm and there were already multiple people waiting. I recommend getting here early because by 5pm this place filled up fast. There are some bar seats in the middle and also seating in the front and back of the bar. The place is dim and really goes all out in their tiki decor. My first drink was the daywalker ($18) which is their take on the zombie drink. Even as the bartender was finishing up the drink I could smell the mint garnish from my seat. The drink itself was very strong but not spirit forward to fit the tiki taste. For such a strong drink you don't taste it as much as you think it would. It was a dangerous and delicious drink. My second drink was the quarantine order ($15) which was very passionfruit forward and also delicious. Some of the other bar patrons and I really enjoyed watching our bartender Matt making four or five drinks at once. Despite being in the area for years with friends who absolutely adore tiki drinks, you'd think I'd been to Pagan Idol, a SF staple for tiki. But tonight was my first time and it was all in search for a commemorative mug. According to my friend, it's been 3-4 years since they last released a tiki mug and it looks and is priced like a collector's mug! While I was out, I stopped in for a drink on a Thursday night. Surprisingly spacious and more on quiet side despite the tone setting music playing some funky 70s style rock. It's a fun kitschy wooden boat vibe inside. Once you walk through the nautical feeling front door, you're immediately greeted by an aquarium on your left and a sizable bar. Further down the corridor is another bar and room with more seating. The bartender held the easy going vibe and made me The Bird ($16), a long drink in a hurricane glass. Garnished with a hibiscus foam, it hits you not only with its presentation, but the deceptive strength of the drink. It's a good spot to stop by if you're in fidi or around the mall on market but it's a bit tough to drive out to with the limited parking. Especially with their drinks that packs a punch, best to get an Uber while stopping by! read more

This is one of the coolest bars I've been to PERIOD. The ambiance is dark, spacious, and extremely immersive when it comes to the tiki theme. It's clear they didn't cheap out on the decor. Honestly, these were the worst drinks I've ever had. The vibes were cool but as you get more into the bar area, it was really stuffy. There was a lot more standing room than seating. We got lucky and sat near the bathrooms lol. Everyone on Yelp mentions the banana life but that drink was by far the worst drink I've ever had. People say it's sweet and I like sweet alcoholic drinks to mask the alcohol but all I tasted was alcohol! I tasted no banana or any fruit flavors at all. I never leave a drink unfinished and I had to leave this one. Maybe mine was messed up and the bar tender put too much alcohol in it but I would not recommend at all. It was way too strong and not enough flavor for me. The toucan was a little bit better. I enjoyed the coconut flavor but it also had a lot of alcohol in it. The bartender probably puts way too much alcohol in all the drinks maybe? Sorry, but I won't be back. SF has plenty of other bars to check out. read more

We'd heard good things about Smuggler's Cove, but Pagan Idol blew it out of the water because Pagan's space and drinks were just so much better. The atmosphere is amazing and the space is huge, from it's sea-video port holes and fog machine volcano back room, to the glass tentacles and real life Finding Nemo fish tank. Everything is fun, but looks expensive and well made. Pagan Idol was the only SF Tiki bar that we visited that did a blended drink and my blended Pina Colada was incredibly tasty. Plus, the honey loved his Toucan Dance. Overall, the service was friendly and helpful and we will most definitely be back! read more

Hours of operation on website stated opened till midnight on Tuesday and Wednesday. We walked 15 minutes from our hotel to the bar and got there before 11pm. Hours on Yelp and on website both said closed at midnight yet the outer gate/ door was locked. I tried calling to speak to someone and it was just a recorded message that prompted me to go to the website to see their hours of operation which again said they closed at midnight. After checking out many of the different tiki bars in San Francisco (some of them multiple times), I have to say that Pagan Idol has some of my favorite cocktail drinks out of all of them! This tiki bar can get pretty busy (for good reason), so definitely make sure to book reservations in advance especially if you are coming with a group of people. The inside of the bar is very nice, with great decorations like fish tanks that fit the theme well and lots of tiki foliage along the walls. Even the ceiling looks great, with tiny sparkling lights that add to the ambience! One of the drinks that I got with some of my friends was the Frozen Potion, which was a combination of a pina colada with a strawberry daiquiri (although I think they might change the recipe from time to time). It basically is like a frozen alcoholic slushy, and while I've had those before I particularly enjoyed this one! We then also got The Bird, which had some coconut whipped cream on it that I thought was a pretty unique touch to it! This drink was also quite tasty and I think it was worth getting. One of my friends in my group got a Banana Life as well, and based on her reaction she also seemed to enjoy it as well. If you want to go to a tiki bar with a great atmosphere and delicious cocktails, definitely stop by Pagan Idol sometime! My group went on a Wednesday night around 7 PM and it was somewhat crowded but we could still find seating in the back (we actually got to sit in a hut). My group ordered the Fassionola Bowl, which is meant to serve 4-6 people. They bring the bowl to you and light it up with fire, so it's definitely a sight to see. They also play some fun sound effects and some lights go off. The bowl tasted great! No actual pieces of pork belly but I think the fries were fried in pork belly fat. So crispy and full of flavor! Vibe reminds me of the tiki room in Disneyland. The bad: 2 out of 3 waiters not so friendly. I asked for a spoon because I didn't want to waste another paper straw that would go soggy and a waiters response was don't move the straw so much in the cup and gave me another straw.
