It's been a year and a half since I've been home and then I drive down Kapahulu and... new building! Wait! Cafe! I quickly pulled into the closest parking spot. It's a cute little space. I think they could use their space a bit better, but I guess it works for now. Super clean which is nice. Their menu is definitely interesting! My sister got a Marsala Chai Latte, I got a Lavender Latte and we both had some Earl Grey Scones. Of course I had to taste my sister's drink to leave an accurate review! And it was fantastic. The spices were so bold and rich, they just danced along my tongue and lingered even after I'd swallowed a few sips. As for the Lavender Latte, I can't say that I'd ever tried one, but I love Lavender and I love coffee. Pai Cafe has found a way to balance the best essence of both flavors in such a harmony that you can taste both, but they almost become one flavor. It's absolutely delicious. My only cringe thing were those scones! I really wanted to like them! If you've had Earl Grey, you know a scone with that flavor would be amazing! The owner was born and raised here and ran off to Seattle after high school. He unsurprisingly fell in love with coffee and generously shares this passion with us. Oh, and he fell in love with his beautiful wife, Sun, who is the mastermind in the kitchen baking all the fresh pastries and so much more! Talk about making sure you're getting your daily dose of Vitamin D. It's gloomy there and she's a ray of sunshine! Ok, I obviously love them, they are brimming with light. But let's talk about this morning delight for your tummy, too. So, their selection? On point. Their espresso was sourced from Temple and is a beautiful lateral step from single origin. I love the break from commodity and the deep dive we're taking into craft. Single origin is big right now, in my work, too, and so are relationships. It's quite tasty to come together and make something new. Did I mention Micah is a coffee geek? Let him geek out with you and ask him all about it. And pretty, pretty please try their chai. They make it from scratch and it has to be some of the best chai I've ever had. I encourage you to test this claim and if you don't agree then you can come at me. Most cafes use chai out of a box, usually made overseas. So now you know where to go for fresh chai, that good, good. Lastly, I'll highlight their amazing açaí bowls! I LOVE this cute little cafe! The matcha latte was delicious, and didn't taste overly sweet, like many do. It was so yummy I got another one to bring for my friend! I also picked up 4 different scones, and I really appreciate their savory options, as I'm more of a savory gal when it comes to pastries. The sun-dried tomato with basil, Portuguese sausage, cheddar are all delicious. I gave my friend the earl gray with lemon icing, and she couldn't stop talking about it! Also, I didn't get to try their chocolate chip cookie, but it must be bomb because the couple in front of my ate one, and then went back and bought all the rest of them!! Service is very good! The sweet lady was so patient and welcoming, and explained all the different scone flavors when I asked. I am proud to say this is one of my top three coffee shops on Oahu. Not only are the drinks absolutely PHENOMENAL, but the owners are the sweetest people ever that make you feel so at home. Pai Cafe recently opened up in the small strip mall ( don't know what it's called ) on the corner of Kapahulu Avenue and Winam Ave. Long a vacant lot @ on that corner. First visit, I ordered an espresso and a matcha latte for dine-in. Both excellent. Today, I got an Earl Grey Scone - great - and an espresso for takeaway. Parking lot (kinda tight for maneuvering ) has a few stalls for the establishments...there is security to remind anyone parking there but not patronizing one of the businesses. Pai Cafe was our favorite cafe that we visited on our trip to Honolulu! Since we only had a 10 days there, we figured that we likely wouldn't make repeat visits anywhere we went, but we actually came here three times before we left. We found that their coffees were very well made, my wife ended up preferring hers slightly less sweet but the flavor of the drinks I had (Hawaiian Latte and a few others) was pretty spot on for my preferences. They also made my favorite acia bowl of the many I had in Hawaii. They didn't have the widest variety of bowl options compared to other places, but their classic acai bowl had the freshest flavor and best consistency even when compared to the extremely popular locations. The only thing I will warn about though - be careful about the parking! The small plaza of connected businesses have QR codes inside the buildings for customers to scan and enter their license plates for a duration of free parking. There are multiple signs posted in the store to remind people of this, and when we came the staff were also quite attentive to warning us of the precaution. read more

We had to check out the scones given the reviews, so we ordered the popular Earl Grey as well as the Portuguese onion and blueberry ($3.95 each). Kiddo ordered a lavender latte, and I ordered the Velvet Cream cold brew. Appreciated that the batista heated up our scones for us. Each of them were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and not dry. They were good additions while sipping our coffees. Kiddo enjoyed her latte. For the cold brew, perfect amount of sweetness once the cream is mixed with the coffee. We stayed for a while as it was a comfortable spot to enjoy the treats and do some work. There's a new acai bowl place on Kapahulu and I'm here for it. They blend soy milk in the acai so it tastes just a tad creamier and not as tart, and the honey over the fruits make this the perfect meal/snack. PARKING: There are only a handful of parking spaces in the lot so you know how that goes. If you want a space, best to bring a person to go in to grab your order. What a gem! I stumbled on this place while grabbing some poke next door and their velvet cream cold brew is so delicious! It's smooth, creamy, with a touch of sweetness. I find when mixing with milk or creams, a lot of coffee flavor gets lost but this cold brew is perfectly balanced. No acidity and so easy to drink! I think $5 for a small size is pretty affordable considering I've had lattes for much more that tasted less than satisfactory. What a beautiful little cafe! My little one and I stopped here for breakfast this week. We split an acai bowl. It was yummy with and loaded with gluten free granola made in house! They had a very nice looking list of teas and some beautiful scones and banana bread that weren't for me, but my partner would've been all over. The cafe is clean, quiet, and well located. Gonna love it here... Pai Cafe is the newest tenant on Kapahulu in the Wong Leong Plaza which also home to Mango Mango, GNC and Honu's Kalihi and Sushi. This little cutie does keep in mind what the average person craves coming into a cafe...seating which a couple of them having outlets to conveniently charge your devices, a restroom all in a cool and comforting place. Offering all the usual coffee, espresso and matcha drinks they also have smoothies and açaí bowl besides some yummy baked goods like today there wasn't much left but earl grey and Sundried tomato pesto scones, and a single banana bread which they're able to warm it up for you is a great option. The owners here are just a delight as I went with the suggestion of Honey Rose Matcha which I really didn't like at the first sip it tasted like soap as it was so overpowering and it just wasn't for me and after checking on me I told them I didn't like it and being the type not to complain as it was my decision to buy it they insisted on giving me a regular Matcha Latte and knowing it's a small biz I really hate to do that really wanted to buy another. Although this cafe has only been open for 4 weeks, they have a lot of Yelp reviews--I suspect the reason why is because it's hard not to rave about this place! I think I just fell in love. Pai Cafe has some of THE BEST coffee I've had in town! They serve an assortment of pastries, like scones. Unfortunately, I was already full when I got there so I didn't get any, but opted for some drinks instead. They have a lot of different drinks I've never seen before and the owner was nice enough to answer each and every one of my bajillion questions. Here's what I ended up getting: - Hawaiian Latte (L) ($6): Coffee with Coconut and Macnut Syrup--two things I've had separately but never together in one drink. In a pleasant way, I tasted a hint of peanut butter even though there wasn't any in it. A fantastic pick and I would totally get this again. - Honey Rose Matcha (L) ($6): This is their most popular drink, and I got lucky by scoring the very last one of the day! It lives up to the hype because goddamn, this was delicious. In this case, the matcha actually ended up complimenting the floral scent of the rose syrup. A truly unique drink. The one thing I really appreciate about Pai is that they know how to make their drinks smell AND taste delicious. My one critique is that their drinks are on the sweeter side so maybe next time, I'll ask if they can make any adjustments. This place is definitely a gem in the newly opened strip mall on Kapahulu. Parking is easy, however, at peak times their lot does get full now that al of the shops are now opened. Coffee - had a regular latte, then we came back a few days later to try their Hawaiian one with coconut/honey. Both were excellent coffees. Had their velvet dream which is similar to SB's coldfoam, but better. Pro Tip: forgo using the straw and just drink out of the cup so that the mouthfeel/texture otherwise the coffee is a little strong. Regular iced matcha was tasty, will need to try their honey rose matcha that everyone raves about. Star of the show was their chocolate cookies. It was large and at a great price. So tasty, slight chewy, chocolatey that's complimented perfectly by the sprinkling of the salt. It was so good that mother went to buy two more a few days later. Service was excellent since they brought everything to your table. There were very friendly and explained the items well. I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this fabulous new cafe! It is my new favorite in all of Honolulu. A very elegant coffee shop located in a mini-mall on Kapahulu with ample free parking in the lot out front. I got terrific service from Micah, the barista, who told me that the vanilla cream cold brew resembled my go-to at Starbucks (vanilla sweet cream cold brew) - only their cream is homemade. Well, naturally, it far exceeded the quality of the green giant in taste and creaminess. I loved it! It was absolutely delicious. I also saw a variety of mouthwatering baked goods and couldn't resist. I bought the one Micah recommended as the bestseller: the Earl Grey scone. It was fantastic - not too sweet and with a thin icing of tart tangy lemon. Delightful! All baked goods are made in house!
