We even had the original Sherwin-Williams paint can with the specs on it. You'd think that would make things simple. You would be wrong. Home Depot tried several times. To their credit, they at least noticed the color was drying wrong. But after enough "close enough" attempts to make me question my sanity and my walls, I finally went to the Sherwin-Williams on King Street. That's where I met a younger Polynesian guy with an incredible afro and the energy level of someone who actually enjoys helping people, which frankly feels rare these days. This guy spent OVER TWO HOURS trying to get the match correct. Testing, adjusting, remixing, checking the dry-down, trying again. At one point he literally told me, "I'm still not happy with it, give me a little more time." Which is exactly what you want to hear from someone matching paint, and not from your surgeon or airline pilot. The best part is I wasn't even buying some massive contractor order. I needed ONE quart. One. Tiny. Quart. And he still treated it like a mission of national importance. Eventually, he nailed it. But honestly, the thing that stood out most wasn't just the paint match. It was the attitude. The guy was smiling the entire time. Super upbeat, super patient, never once acted annoyed. And weirdly enough, everyone else there seemed genuinely cheerful too. Management included. The whole store felt relaxed and positive, which was especially noticeable after dealing with the emotional support zombies at their auto paint counterpart store recently. Sherwin-Williams (on King Street), seriously: you've got a keeper. Give that guy a raise, a promotion, or at minimum his own reserved parking spot. Excellent service. Excellent effort. And finally, walls that don't look like they were patched using leftovers from three different dimensions.

He could have easily given the lady some options and showed her where it was and to read the descriptions on the package and help the next person and come back to her original lady, but no instead he was rude and basically said he's not going to help me because he was still helping that one customer. But step in powerhouses of Home Depot that opened in Iwilei in 1999 and then Lowe's Home Improvement (LHI), that took over Eagle Hardware and Garden in Waikele and then opened this location in Iwilei in 2011. LHI originated in North Carolina in 1921 and has expanded to over 1700 locations nationwide. They also tested their home improvement business in neighboring Canada and Mexico but currently only focuses in the United States. I've been to LHI a handful of times and although I'm not a professional, I've noticed the pricing here is more economical than their rivals but lacks in the customer service. It can be very challenging at times so reach out to a sales associate for assistance. I do like there's also ample parking and multiple entries to LHI as Nimitz Highway can be congested during peak hours so it's better to enter here from the back entrance. I recently came here to shop for refrigerators as they also carry a large selection. Luckily my BIL accompanied me and he's quite knowledgeable with the different features and various companies. There were some questions we had and unfortunately it wasn't easy to flag down an associate. We did come across several not to far away but they were either huddled up socializing or not available as this guy was busy with his cellphone. Although LHI had a model that I was interested in as well as less expensive for an identical model, i ended up selecting a refrigerator with their main competitor. It doesn't hurt to do due diligence. LHI is a great option for those who are knowledgeable in this field and don't need much service. But for your everyday average Joe, customer service could be better here to address questions and concerns to home improvement.

Koolau Farmers is a locally owned/operated nursery and garden supply business that are home…read moregardening experts. It was started in 1938 by East Oahu farmers and a Kailua papaya cooperative as a farmer-founded business entity that shifted from farming to home gardening. Today, it supplies plants, floral arrangements, fertilizers, pesticides, garden tools, etc. for home gardeners. There are currently two locations for Koolau Farmers: Kaneohe and Honolulu (McCully). This review is for the Honolulu location. Items that the McCully location carry include: bromeliads, flowers, fruit, orchids, palms, fruit trees, peppers, tropical fruits, shrubs, soil, trees, veggies, hono hono orchids, dwarf fruit trees (Meyer lemon, Tahitian limes, Naval oranges, jabong, grafted mango, avocado). It also offers seed starting supplies, fertilizers for plants and flowers, worm composting bins; and info re growing and care of indoor potted plants, organic gardening, soil testing, and proper lighting. What brought us to Koolau Farmers is my lilikoi vine that I've had in my back yard for a number of years. With the help of bees, the vine had flourished and produced many delicious fruits for homemade lilikoi desserts, such as lilikoi chiffon pie, lilikoi curd, lilikoi bars, and more. But in recent years, the flowers would bloom, but because there are no bees to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, no fruits are produced. Questions to Koolau Farmers confirmed that there is a lack of nesting sites for carpenter bees (I think they're known as the black bumblebees that we no longer see) to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, resulting in a lack of fruit. According to Koolau Farmers, the flowers must be hand-pollinated instead. Staff provided instructions to my hubby on how to hand-pollinate the beautiful lilikoi flowers. A work in progress, and I'm sure more questions to follow. Then the next project will be our dwarf local orange tree. Where is the fruit? There's a single tiny orange on it, yes, only one! Hope Koolau Farmers can help us on this one! Another work in progress. Staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and provides helpful guidance. An unlikely spot in urban Honolulu to have a nursery and garden supply store, but I'm glad that it's there! The interior space is not that big, but houses boxes of fertilizers and various home gardening equipment for home gardeners. There may be displays of seasonal items on how to grow certain plants, such as hono hono orchids. Open daily from 8a to 5p. Free parking in the private lot. On the outside private lot are scattered variety of healthy local plants, herbs, orchids, and fruit trees. We look forward in working with Koolau Farmers and knowing that they are there to help us with our home gardening needs!
