We eat there at least once a month. Great food. Great service. Laid back atmosphere. They offer "splits" on most of the stuff on the menu, so it's great for ordering tons of food and sharing. We found Painter's while driving and looking for a quaint spot for lunch. Parking right in front. A gorgeous day so we sat outside and were allowed to have our small dog sit with us. Service was prompt and friendly. Yummy menu - lots of vegetarian choices - hard to choose. Recommend the warm goat cheese salad. Revising my review on Painters...My last couple of visits were just ok. Still a good menu with good specials, but just good. Not great.

Great Martinis, great Mediterranean appetizer, delicious steak entree. Great stop or destination.

Over the past 3 days I've eaten there 2x's. Once after a show and last night for a benefit. The beer on tap (craft beers) are overwhelmingly incredible. I had the kale salad with chicken and it was perfect. I had the dragon bowl with chicken and the it was delicious. Now for the bad, I was so hungry that I didn't think to take pictures until half the plate was devoured. Next time! read more

What a disappointment. I've lived in the area for 25years and have experienced many different chefs at painters. It used to be amazing. A place where locals and tourists could both enjoy. I must say this was the worst experience I've had yet, aside from the lovely server. The warm goat cheese salad was my favorite back in the day. This time it was huge and tasteless (hello...more taste less volume). The potato skins with chili were obviously cooked twice. So much so that I thought they were sweet potatoes. The chili was dry and crusty. Who is cooking this stuff. What a bummer! The one star is for the server who managed to not let it ruin our day. read more

Painter's is a fantastic place for great food and drink. The regular menu is available on line and they have specials that change every two weeks. It had the best calamari ever, they have great salads, sandwiches and the best thing about it is that they have a ton of vegeterian items, wheat-free, gluten free as well. They buy locally so you know its good and fresh. The bar is great and I do have my favorite bartenders. Its kid friendly as well. Its my favorite Cornwall restaurant. Its an inn as well, apartment too - I could never live there, I'd be a 300 pound alcoholic for sure :) read more

Painters is a wonderful place to dine. The food is wonderful. They have an unique menu. They also offer a large selection of alcohol. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner so it can be a more pricey lunch. The Salmon and seafood paella are both amazing meals. The staff is attentive and very friendly. One of the best restaurants in the area IMO. Since I'm 'only' giving it a 4 you can tell what my opinion of food in this area is. That said, Painters has a seasonally changing and highly inventive menu with some great offerings. There warm goat cheese and spinach salad is AWE-SOME. Likewise to their sweet potato fries which are among the best I've ever had....they stay crispy even as they cool. They offer a variety of traditional American fare made with local ingredients and typically served up with a little twist. The staff is super friendly and the interior is rustic and homely. read more

I've only dined here once and I'm in no hurry to go back. The service was extremely good and the food quality was great. The food selection was different than what most restaurants offer, which can be good or bad, depending on your taste. You're not just getting a basic steak and fries, the menu is much more diverse than that. This place is great. It's got lovely outdoors seating and friendly service. Their gin and juice cocktails are yummy, and the best thing I think we got was a pizza with little neck clams and greens - totally great. Their scallops and watermelon and greens salad was also fantastic. I had their BBQ cobia which was on the sweet side for me. The bar area is really cozy and friendly, while the dining room often seems over crowded and without much personality. But the food is always a comfort and the bar selection never disappoints. Really enjoyed our first meal experience at Painter's Tavern this past Friday evening for dinner. I have lived nearby for several years but had never heard of this place. When I had driven by in the past I thought it was simply a bed & breakfast or art store. Little did I know that I would be entering a bustling and friendly hot spot for great food and great service. Everywhere you looked there were tables filled with happy diners. My wife and I were impressed with the wide selection of appetizers, entrees, AND beers to chose from! Whenever I'm up visiting friends in New Windsor, NY this is invariably the place we head to if we're eating out. I've sat in both the bar area and the more formal restaurant area. They have a great selection on the menu, from pub fare to more sophisticated entrees. Oh, and they will substitute 100% whole wheat pasta in any of their pasta dishes! Seriously, how many places will do that or even have that as an option on their menu?! They get major points just for that. If you're into beer, they've got a great selection of that too. My mother made reservations for Sunday brunch at 12:30 on my birthday. There was one waiter the entire time for a restaurant full of patrons. Decided to get pancakes which came out promptly with everyone else's food, however didn't get syrup until almost ten minutes later and having to get up from the table to ask for it. Just hard to believe they'd serve pancakes without syrup and then make you wait that long while everyone at your table enjoys their food. Slow service, barely checked in or they would've realized that we were missing syrup--can't really enjoy dry pancakes. Never got the water we asked for and the final straw was we were overcharged and had to get the manager involved to fix it - which they did but it was just very disappointing. Quintessential Cornwall! Painter's has been a long-time local staple. The eclectic menu is consistently good and the setting is relaxed.. Portions are large, the crowd is diverse and the bar menu leaves nothing to be desired. My wife and I stopped by for lunch. Staff was very pleasant and the atmosphere is very nice. The drink selection is very nice and a pleasant surprise. We had the cheese plate appetizer which gets my vote for best appetizer I have ever had. I ordered a burger, which was very good. It is a bit pricey, but portions are large and the food is great. Food is VERY good. We had their amazing duck egg rolls. Our dinners were delicious, as well. Service was very good. Got to chatting with our waitress who was very sweet and attentive. Love their butternut squash soup when it is in season. Used to love their painter's chicken, but recently its lacking in flavor. I'm not a fan of them not allowing separate checks for a large party either. I was going to split the bill. Unfortunately I only had a credit card and it was embarrassing when I could not pay my way. i would have left a decent tip with my purchase. Brunch only review: I love this place. Service is fast, sometimes it gets busy but the servers at least try to take care of everyone equally. Food portions are huge and I love their Eggs Benedict and they serve sparkling wine as well as other brunch fare on Sundays. I usually go in with large parties and haven't had an issue like I have with other places. They'll even refill your coffee as much as you need (coughFIDDLESTIXSUCKScough). It's a nice little spot but beware if they are busy. As a small group of 4 we waited for over an hour for the good we ordered to arrive. It never did, so we left. I actually wonder if they even sent our order to the kitchen. We saw our waitress once during our wait. The hostess offered an insincere apology claiming that a bigger party held them up. I guess they are not adept enough to handle a half-3/4 filled restaurant. So if you go during off peak hours you may have better customer service. read more

The service was absolutely horrible. The food was great. Maybe they were slightly understaffed but the waitress continually forgot my drinks. She never brought my mimosa. I ordered coffee. She brought everyone else's coffee but mine. I reminded her again. Finally got it. Asked for a refill and she never brought it. I had to ask the busboy. He was great and gave me a refill. We chose the bar area which was very roomy. Our server was very accommodating and patient w/us since it was our first time there and my friend and I were chit chatting and not making our menu selections right away. Our drinks were made to perfection. not weak like some other places we have visited. Kudos to the bar maid! We both ordered the Hanger Steak that came w/ spinach & oil truffled parmesan fries. All I can say is " Wholly Molly, FANTASTIC!" the fries are hand cut and well seasoned. The steak cooked to perfection topped w/ seasoned herb butter, but not overly done. The portion was huge. A very cute wooden-wrapped space soaked in history and local ambience that serves up consistently decent fare. This place is a mainstay for both locals and out-of-towners, and the constantly changing specials menu caters to a wide variety of palates. The bar end is lively and accommodating to many moods -- it is possible to have a big party in the private side room, too. Because of the unusual acoustics of the dining room, it is important not to be seated opposite any tables that have unruly children if you are looking for a quiet meal, as the sound will be disruptive on the sides of the room. It is actually safest to sit in one of the corners, where the sound seems not to travel as much. If there are no children to contend with, try to sit next to the fireplace, since this affords the best vantage point for people watching as well as being a cheery spot when they've got a fire going. Best of all is to dine on the patio when it's open -- very nice. For best results, ask your server what s/he recommends -- they all have educated inside information on what's best, and if you treat them nicely as a partner in your dining venture, they will always steer you right. (OK, so this advice works pretty much worldwide...but it's extra-true here.) The servers named Mark and Elan are especially smart, congenial, efficient, and good-looking as well, and Painter's also seems to corner the market on cute females for the serving staff, too, according to the males of my acquaintance. read more
