We had a horrible experience. The service was lacking and our food took at least a 45 min to get to our table after ordering. They were not busy (1 other table) and we were there for lunch. When our food finally came, my main dish was completely congealed and dull. It looked gross. I wouldn't even taste it Our pizza was undercooked and the salad was not very big. When we needed a location for a funeral luncheon for 50+ people with just a few days notice John and Caroline were kind and empathetic. The luncheon was on a Saturday and the staff were all wonderful. Our tables were all set up and ready for us when we arrived and the servers couldn't have been more attentive. The food was perfect, the chicken was out of this world. The dessert trays were a huge hit. And they even wrapped up the extra food for me to take home knowing that we had a house full of out of town relatives. read more

I work in Batavia and have for 20 years, so I like to support local business. I had been to the former Pal Joey's location a number of times dating back to when it was Charlie Fox's, and I always had lukewarm feelings about it. The staff through the years has been good, but the food and drinks have always left much to be desired. The charm of the old location couldn't be beat, so when I was invited to a private party at the new location recently, I was curious to see what had changed. My first impression was okay. The inside is kind of bland. When I stopped in to use the women's bathroom, I thought the updates were nice, but the floors were filthy--especially in the corners. The store had just opened, we were there for a luncheon. The buffet set up in the party room was so awkward, they had two tables in a corner versus the open space in the middle of the room, and it took a long time to get our food--forget about how uncomfortable it was when I went back to get flatware and a napkin. Pal Joey's thick crust is basically white bread with a skim of toppings. I have never understood why people like it. Still, with all these drawbacks, I was glad to see the place semi-full as Batavia needs strong businesses. But I wouldn't go there by my choosing, for the cleanliness factor alone. read more

we ate at the batavia location yesterday, and our experience was not that great. our original waiter (i think his name is ben...) was great, but the guy who brought out our pizza left a lot to be desired. he managed to get the first piece on one of our plates, but the second one landed on the floor next to our table. he didn't say anything and just walked away when he was finished serving the other slices. we weren't sure if he was coming back to clean it up, but he eventually did. he never said anything about bringing us a replacement slice or reducing our bill because of his accident, and i had to bring it up to the cashier when it was time for us to leave or we would have had to pay the original bill. our appetizer was supposed to come with ranch dressing but we had to search for someone in order to get it, and they weren't sure if it was actually included with the appetizer...which it was. also, there were only three occupied tables, but just like with the dressing we all had to flag somebody down in order to get our water refilled. this was our first time eating at this location, and i am not sure, but it might be our last. read more

If you want basic, average, run of the mill, and tasteless Italian food, in decor that screams Early DMV, this is your place! I agree with the previous reviewer who said the cheese on the red pepper garlic bread could have been melted. Husband said his ricotta cheese in his manicotta was not fresh. I ordered the linguini in olive oil with broccoli which was OK (I could have made it at home) but the mushrooms I had added were FROM A CAN. This is an Italian restaurant and no fresh mushrooms?! I didn't read any reviews on this location until I was sitting in the restaurant tonight. I chose not to mention the low overall score to my husband so that I could get an honest opinion from him (he's more of a foodie then I am and pizza is his FAVORITE food). We ordered the roasted red pepper garlic bread for an appetizer. He liked it, I didn't like the cheese but it wasn't horrible (the cheese was sharper then I expected). If the cheese were melted the appetizer would've been great! We ordered the antipasto salad and both didn't like it. The salad dressing was bland and the lettuce was cut into large pieces (not bite sized). We shared a pan pizza. This was the best part of the meal! It's a PAN pizza, not stuffed Chicago style and it's definitely not thin crust (although that is an option). The toppings were ample and my husband's only complaint was that the green peppers were too firm. I ordered a side of spaghetti with marinara sauce and it was ok. Piping hot but the overall taste was a bit bland (top it with some parmasean and you're all set!). Our service was fine and prices are comparable to other Italian restaurants. Overall I don't feel this location deserves the 2 stars it got, I just wonder if people were expecting something different. I will say we will probably go to the West Chicago location though since one reviewer says there's a vast difference in food quality between the 2 locations. read more

When they finally brought my order out, it was incorrect! I understand this is a new location with new employees but they should offer some type of coupon or free drink as I wait. My wife and I haven't been back to Pal Joey's for sometime now. We used to go quiet often, loving to sit on the patio overlooking the Fox River. When the moved to the location on Randall Road, it wasn't the same. Granted, this was the time that covid was around and staff was hard to find for alot of resturants and theye were hit hard as well. Knowing this, we continued to patrinize our local bussiness. When they move back to their previous location, we were thrilled. However, they were still hurting for staff. On several ocassions we were seated and waited for 40 minutes and no staff took any order, so we walked out. We just went back to try it again and waited 20 minutes until we got a server and we had to grab her as she took an order from an other table. My wife's ceaser salad had cold chicken, our friend's baked potato was under cooked and she had to go the hostess to get any butter. My salad was to come with our appitizers but came with my dinner, so the dinner came homee with me. Not very happy with all of this. We go to many resturants in the Fox Valley area and they have no problem with getting good staff. It will be a long time before we try and go back to Pal Joey's. read more

Sadly our last time there. We've kept trying but today was it for us. Asked for wine line list, bartender said the don't have one, yet we found one. Served me the wrong wine. Took a longgggg time as usual for our food with hardly any customers in restaurant and hardly anyone coming in for take out orders which is very telling. If this is your "go-to" Italian restaurant, I feel sorry for you. I ordered the avocado and tomato salad and the large cauliflower crust veggie pizza (listed as one of their specials). The salad was a sad collection of lettuce, four translucent slices of avocado, and a couple of slices of tomato. I did not say anything because a salad, well... you know. However, when the "pizza" came, I could not help but ask: a) is that the large pizza? how is the small? The waitress insisted it was 12 inches. She must be used to the metric system. It was 9 at the most. But even worse: this cauliflower crust pizza had been taken out of a frozen box, at least the crust, probably bought at Costco or a cheaper version. The person who handled the pizza -I refuse to address them as "cook" or "chef" managed to burn the frozen crust but left the two toppings (red peppers and cherry tomatoes cut in half) almost raw. I have to admit that is hard to do. If you like "fine" Italian food, this is not the place. read more

I'm sad they changed locations from DT Batavia. This location can not compare. Layout is super weird and uncomfortable...no booths. Food SUCKED. I ordered Penne Alla Vodka and had absolutely no flavor and was overpriced as hell. We also got deep dish pizza and the sauce was as if it was all paste. They had half a dozen or more waitresses hanging around the hostess podium. Why couldn't they help out in the kitchen? It would've been good training for them. We waited at the inside bar and drank a luke warm beer. Wasn't told there was an outside bar in the back we could wait at. We discovered that on our own. My husband and I took our 2 granddaughters to Pal Joey's in Batavia for pizza on Saturday. We had reservations for 5:00. The hostess led us to a table and gave us menus. We were sitting out in the enclosed porch area. There were maybe only 2 to 3 tables of customer already sitting down. We waited for a server to take our drink order. After 10 minutes my husband got up and asked the hostess for a server for our table. After another 5 or more minutes we asked another server for drinks but still no one came. In the meantime a larger group of customers were seated and they got their drinks right away. Several servers walked by our table but no one bothered to wait on us. We packed the girls up and went to the hostess to ask for a manager. The manager said she was sorry but that was it. She didn't try to fix the situation or get us a server right away. What was upsetting to us is that we had originally had reservations at Aurelio's in Geneva but decided to change eating in Geneva and support a Batavia restaurant. We ended up eating at the WindMill Grille & Pizzeria in Batavia and the service was excellent and the pizza was very delicious! read more

Well I had a strange feeling walking into this huge and coldly decorated space, wanted to leave but sat down anyways . Very sterile and not a cozy space. Lunchroom like the way the tables were arranged. Made the mistake of not ordering pizza because we had pizza the night before . Ordered salad and a club sandwich. So horrible including the cole slaw which seemed like it had sat out and was sour. Bread was stale and mayonnaise tasted bad too. Salad laden with too much dressing. While the cheese was sufficient, the small amount of sausage on this pizza makes me wonder how they have the nerve to call it a sausage pizza. I would give 3.5 stars if I could, but not an option yet on Yelp. They don't deserve just 3 stars, so I am rounding up to 4. Came here later one evening to try the new location out. We ordered thin and hand tossed pizzas. We also got an app plater. The plater was a bit overcooked, but they had decent ranch dressing to hide some of that. The salad was good, but on the smaller side for the price. The pizza was on the pricier end for the size, but overall the pizza had good flavor and was cooked perfectly. The server was friendly and accommodating. We came in later, and had a larger group, and we were not rushed out the door at all. It's not Salerno's, but its also almost 1/2 the price of their pizza. we had reservations at 5pm for 11people. It was for our grandsons birthday party. They seated us, we wanted to be outside they told us NO just NO ? they put us in the patio, we could see the river but not outside. We sat there and sat there finally got our drinks and because it took so long to even get out drinks, we ordered appetizers and the pizza right away. The Place was NOT busy, the outside tables were empty? but yet we couldnt sit outside? They were nice enough to put our birthday cake in the fridge for us. So then we sit...an hour and 20 mins later we had a hard time getting refills on our drinks. rolled there eyes when 2 of our guest wanted coffee because they had to make it. I got up went to find our waitress to find out where is our appetizers? She tells me oh we are so busy they are running behind? Im like really we saw about 30 employees all young running around but the place was NOT busy. 2 of us had to go to the rest room, 2 stalls, 1 was clogged, couldnt use, ready to overflow so we waited. Got done there went and told one of the employees to go plunge the toliet so others could use it... NOPE they couldnt do that, still no food! Went and asked again... finally brought our zucchini strips, they were cold as heck! then the shrimp came after that, zucchini was gone in an instant. 2 plates of shrimp gone still needed more drinks, couldnt get that, got up and went and asked again! FINALLY FINALLY pizzas came and 2 of our guest got some kind of chicken dinner of which didnt look good, they said it was good but I think they were just being nice. The pizza was nothing special I ate HALF a piece and didnt want anymore! The only thing that was hot in our whole meal was the fried mushrooms of which came out with the pizza? that was an appetizer... THEN I had to track down someone to get the cake. Finally brought cake, not our server I had the plates and everything to go with it so we ate the cake, opened presents and we were all ready to leave, couldnt get our check! Some of our guest left, and the other 6 of us stood there, yes stood by our table, it was obvious we wanted to leave and still no check. Well had to go to the bathroom again, NOPE couldnt use bathroom, was told that one was off limits due to problem in there, DUH! I told you 2 hours before! so was sent outside to outdoor restroom, the door had mold on it, wouldnt shut! only 1 stall filthy filthy dirty! Im glad I didnt work for the health dept I would of shut em down! Came out got my debit card back, still no manager! I have never ever in my life had an experience like that at pal joeys, it used to be our favorite place to go for family dinners or even just my husband and myself. Was so excited to go back to the old place BUT they should of cleaned the place up before opening the doors again, very very disappointed . Even the bar area wasnt busy? I dont get it, the whole place seemed to be run by kids, before there was a man there who was the owner and it was awesome, but now I think he needs to take a walk around there and do some cleaning and reorganizing because we wont be back! too big of a hurry to go back into a place you were at before and not clean it up.
