I just left this place and I cant even utter the unprofessionalism that I just experienced. I ended up leaving without even ordering. Sad part is, I was with a 3 year old who should have never, ever had to hear such vulgar language. The poor cashier was mentally abused by the waiter who I've seen there for the past few months, never as my waiter (thank God) but I have seen him, i thi k he is a host, he had on green today. He spoke to that poor cashier as if she was a piece of trash. She was so shocked and shaken up, she couldnt even defend herself before she was bullied even more by the old skinny, blonde haired women who has also been there a while. I've been going to the palace for the past 20 years at least 2 times a week during the day and we order at night via pick up at least 4 times a week. Had apple cinnamon pancakes with a side of home fries and turkey bacon. I'm still thinking about these pancakes, that's how good they were. Probably the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. This place was my favorite for weeks. I came in ordered my usual (every week same thing) They completely switched up on me. My sandwich had one piece of chicken, im not paying 15$ for a single piece of chicken lol So then out of spite of me complaining which is what you do if ur order is wrong, they charge me one dollar for a small ass cup of dressing. Never have i ever been charged for this in the 2 years ive been coming here. I say something and they told me i shouldve had ketchup! This is our favorite restaurant to go to in the winter after 9 PM. Their coffee is good and the menu is splendid. You go to eat and it's nice. We had the French fries and gravy and sandwiches and no complains. It's such a traditional diner I don't see anything to complain about so we love it. read more

I love this place. You walk in and feel rested right away. You feel at home instantly. They have all the works you'd anticipate. Soups, salads, comfort foods, alcoholic drinks and of course thick milkshakes! They serve a wide variety of cuisines and never mess up an order! I'd say sweet potato fries are the best but I don't love their buffalo chicken wrap. Any of the sandwiches, soups and salads have never disappointed either. I have dined here in person and ordered pick up. When dinning onsite service is sub par, everyone seems in a rush, orders are incomplete, missing items. Dishes are inconsistent, some looked they aged under a hot lamp... presentation horrible. My recent experience was ordering pickup. The woman who answered the phone thought I was on hold for something else. She then asked if I wanted to order take out. I gave her my order, had her read it back to me but she couldn't get off the phone fast enough...I didn't even get the option to pay over the phone. When we got our food home, it was incorrect, they completely messed up our turkey burger orders and yet charged us for items that were missing....smh I would use their app but it's crap, it asks what temperature I want my turkey burger!?!....really? There's also no options to add/remove items from my burger. If you need a online order app to model, take a look at Bread Alones, it's perfect. Online ordering apps are so intuitive these days but it looks like a 4 yr old built theirs. Bottom line...diners are a staple in the north east...this one does not meet my expectations. This is a diner. It says it right there in the name. That means: -It's open 24 hours a day. If you're saying to yourself, "MY diner isn't open 24 hours!" Then your diner doesn't deserve to call itself a diner. Your diner should be ashamed of itself. -It will have a huge, overwhelming menu. Your party will probably sit in silence as they try and figure out just what the hell to eat out of this massive tome. Palace also throws in a fun little curveball by putting heart and star icons next to certain items without explaining what they mean. -Of all those items on the menu, you probably don't want to order at least 80% of them. I am of the opinion that no restaurant can serve that many items and do justice to all of them. And you especially shouldn't get things like steaks, seafood, pastrami, BBQ and any sort of ethnic food. I know some of it sounds great, but don't say I didn't warn you. -You want to order the things that diners do well. Fried items, breakfast foods, sandwiches piled with unhealthy ingredients that are hard to screw up (like Ricky's BBQ Chicken Sandwich: Char-broiled Chicken Breast on Sourdough Bread with crispy Fried Onions, Cilantro, melted Cheddar Cheese and BBQ sauce.) Palace is solid when it comes to diner food, and if you keep these things in mind, you'll leave satisfied. read more

I really can't complain about Palace Diner because it has come through for me when nothing else can. If I need curly fries for dinner, I'm going to Palace. What about when I need a milkshake at midnight? I head to Palace, and I can call in and order it for take-out. Then there's the obvious, when I'm taking family around Poughkeepsie and need to stop somewhere for a meal. This Diner isn't anything special, but it's ever so reliable. I can't complain, I'm always satisfied with what I get, whether it be an appetizer, a meal or dessert. Their black and white cookies are also an entire treat on their own, and can last you quite a long time. I couldn't finish mine in one, or even two sittings. I should also mention that the staff is friendly, and they know how to manage even when it's crowded at 11:45pm on a Sunday night. Many years I frequented the Palace Diner under Teddy's ownership. It was always consistant in all areas 4 to 5 star' This day We had a group of 8 , for informal ,no cake birthday dinner meet. Monday 5pm to 7pm till we paid bill . Entire event was terrible, Food was good but vegetables overcooked and potatoes served without gravy, We had to pay xtra for a side of Gravy. After 5 pm seating we waited for half an hour, think she forgot us! Though the hispanic wattress was a nice girl, she and the cook where terrible. Once seated took about 30 minutes to take our orders, she was not that familiar with menu the offerings of each dinner offered. 3 of 8 dinners served where wrong, causing concern. Of the special senior dinners we where not explained what came with it salad or soup or choices of deserts. We had to request for ourselves, when I received salad it was still wrong, she had to fix it again. the 3 of 8 dinners came wrong , obvious our nice waitress could not understand our speech and was somewhat slow to know the details of the menu. though 3 of 8 where wrong rather then pose further delay we accepted what was given. Throughout the entire diner no one asked if we needed more water. We had to ask. Finally by about 6:30 I where finally abel to see the waitress. At know time did she ask of our interest in deserts. Like the salad and soup I again had to explain deserts came with the dinners and we wanted them to go. One desert my son went to the case and showed which one he wanted to buy and she still served the wrong one .we also needed containers to pack leftovers ,she had to come twice for that. My friend & I went to Palace and the server Nancy seemed to have trouble serving us. She kept mentioning she "had tables in the other dining room" but wouldn't ask if we need we needed anything else. The entire experience was a joke ! We never got a refill of water. Nancy didn't ask if I'd like more tea nor was she attentive enough to ask my friend if she'd like another glass of wine. If you're wondering why we didn't ask her ~ it was due to her zipping off in "the other dining room" ~ of course that's where a majority of her tip money was so why should she bother showing us any respect as a costumer or be professional? When I friend asked if the split pea was vegan , Nancy rolled her eyes , as her Santa hat bounced on her entitled server head when she swirled on her heels to go in the kitchen & double check that the soup was vegetarian. We noticed often that Nancy liked to sit on the stool at the counter instead of checking on her guests like us ~ only a mere few feet away. The total dining experience was an utter joke :-( well ... There were 2 other servers who observed Nancy's neglectful behaviour & were kind enough to remove the dirty dishes. In addition, she never warned us about the little juke box. So we were very excited to play some old songs ~ only to discover the machine just ate our money. Nancy acted like she did us a HUGE favor by getting the manager to refund us our $2.00 . Honesty this was my favorite place to go while at school. Me and my friends have spent hundreds of dollars here since September 2018 plus all the people I have brought here. But today after finally being able to go back to college cause of the pandemic, I feel my health is now at risk. Why, because after me and my four friends sat down for lunch just to finish our meal and see into the kitchen that no cook had a mask on. Not to add but the wait staff and other front of house had masks but most were not worn correctly. Man at counter had his flipped onto his forehead while face to face to a customer. And when we confronted the man and lady at the register she said ignored us and the man said " honestly they are supposed to be". Which is not a good response. We don't normally drive two hours north from Manhattan to Poughkeepsie for diner food but, since we were there... We've actually taken this particular drive north three times in the past few weeks. The first was for an eagerly anticipated lunch at the Culinary Institute of America and, by coincidence, a meeting with a puppy breeder nearby. That first trip resulted in a deposit on an adorable newborn pup and so we drove up again a couple of weeks later to see how she was doing. But this third trip would be our final drive north for a while because we were picking up our 8-week old furry bundle and wouldn't be going anywhere for a while :) Although this part of the state is beautiful and we greatly enjoyed our previous visits, this particular day was pretty miserable. Lousy traffic, drizzling rain and a near-migraine headache all made this our least favorite visit...well...except for the puppy :) We stopped at this diner first so we could eat and use the restroom before arriving at the breeder. It's cute and redone to look retro. The menu reads like standard diner fare and a good diner plate of burgers and fries were just what the doctor ordered. We had no complaints about our meal. But, we decided to get some pastries for the road and were surprised at the dull taste for a high price. Horrible service! Waitress Rachel K. never once asked if everything was ok or to our liking. Therefore, no one to complain to. My omelette was over cooked instead as I asked for being lightly soft and fluffy. Both of us had French Fries and they were cold. Both of us had Rye toast, and on both plates one was toasted and hard as if retoasted and the other slices barely toasted at all. Even when we asked for the check Rachel never asked if everything was ok. Even the cashier did not asked us how was everything. Never going back here again. read more
