The Palama Supermarket specializes in Asian ingredients. We stopped in at 8 a.m. store opening to pick up mushrooms and peppers. The vegetables are super fresh and reasonably priced. The store is neat and well organized. In the morning, fresh rice cakes, mochi and other desserts are dropped off by a local bakery. Store patrons rush to get their favorites. I avoided the temptation, but the treats looked remarkable. The store carries what you'd expect from a grocery plus lots of specialty items for Asian cooking. We also picked up teriyaki sauce. There is a food court on one side of the supermarket that offers prepared lunch options (but was not opened during our visit). The clerks were friendly and welcoming. read more

Looking for Korean produce and products, you have come to less crazy location compared to one near Don Quixote Kaheka. Variety of side dishes and dry and frozen products. They also have take out plate lunches here too. Familar snacks and candy with popular Korean convenience coffee drinks, assorted lemonade. Went in today and looked around. Lots of bentos and fresh food available. but for some reason did not look appetizing. Prices have gone up quite a bit from before. No sweet potato available so just purchased one of their BBQ chicken bentos. It was totally disappointing! Chicken was plain, light colored, and tasteless and sat on a bed of rice beneath the chicken although a portion of rice was already part of the portioned dish of the bento. The kimchee on the side was the only tasty part. Sadly, won't be coming back here any more. read more

I've visited the OG Palama Supermarket several times now. I usually come in to grab Vegetable Kimbap and/or a can/bottle of coffee or tea. Small parking lot fronts the entrance, which is accessible from South King Street via a small side lane...a bit of an awkward turn into the entrance. Exit is on South King. Prices are good. One or two checkout lanes are usually available. Hours are from 0800 till 0800. There is a small eatery inside - back left - for typical Korean food. read more

This location is great. It's so near my office, I can pick up lunch or dinner on the way home. Look for the pink building on North King St. near the HCC canal. Lots of parking, and even if the lot is full, stalls open up quickly. Be patient. The selection of grab n go food is extensive. From 3-4 different Kimbap, to bentos to sides like squash jun and imitation scallop tempura, to sweet duk & yaksik for dessert, to fresh made duk for soup, and sweet mochi rice. Panchan is no longer self serve. Everything is packaged. Great selection of produce items, including dried persimmons, my dad's favorite, and Korean pear. Palama snack corner, where the kimbap and grab n go's are prepared, also sell made to order plate lunches and soups. They can make special request Kimbap. (I order Palama Kimbap, no egg, extra meat or spinach.) Discovered some new products like the Tteokboki almonds and the wasabi almonds in the snack aisle. Bought sushi at Makaloa and flavor is gone. Bought BiBinPab (rice) at Kalihi and so sad with the cuts but price now $13. No BBQ strips just a small amount of ground meat. Daikon, na mul and kim chi tasty but the BBQ meat is the flavor enhancer and protein. Will give Sam's on Nuuanu Ave another chance. It's not a big store but it's what you need. It has basically all your Korean food staples. The butcher shop has all those thinly sliced cuts of meat for your grill. Noodles? Yes. Frozen, dried, ddukbokki? Yes. All that is there. Do you want to serve you meals like it in K-drama? Gold aluminum pots, kimchi ceramic pots. And those essential stainless steel chopsticks! I was always impressed with their little restaurant in the back, but the last three times I bought their version of bi bim kook Soo, I was really disappointed. It did not look like the picture in their menu. What I got was some noodles, hamburger, koo chu jang sauce, and a few bits of cucumber. The taste was okay, but the last few times were kind of shocking. The quality has gone down considerably. Time to stop shopping there. Our go to market when we come to Kalihi, we always come for the store brand Kim Chee, & homemade Sushi.Found the real siracha, on the shelves, when no one in town, had it.Pricy but had to have it, since prices have dropped, but still double the cost. The plate lunches in the back are delicious, as we had the meat jun plate with sides, no picking you own. Staff was ok, with a business attitude. Seems like a pretty stressful place to work... the staff all seem pretty stressed and there's always this one lady who's obviously the boss or owner yelling or moving around super hecticly but they have everything here that I ever need. I would love to sample more of the exclusive asian snacks ;p although that would break my diet.. It's been years since I last walked into this Palama Supermarket location. I think the last time I came here, it was to eat at Von's Chicken as Von's had a small food kiosk within this supermarket. A lot has changed since I last came here, as Von's Chicken is no longer inside of Palama Market. The parking lot attendant that used to work in the parking lot is no longer there, but of course the Palama Supermarket is not as busy as they used to be. Going to a Palama Supermarket is like going to Don Quijote, only difference is, instead of finding Japanese grocery items, this store is all about the Korean items! The day I came here, I was looking for something to eat, and this market has tons of "pre-made" food. Upon looking over the hot food offerings, I decided to pick up with a Fish Jun Bento. What can I say about the grub? For $8.50, I got a pretty reasonably priced bento (see my pic). The Fish Jun Bento wasn't the best bento I've ever tasted, but it did do it's job by filling up my big belly! Also after picking up my food, I decided to pick up some Chinese cabbage for my dad. Little did I know, and I should have figured this out............Palama Supermarket probably had the BEST price per pound for their Chinese cabbage! I guess since Kim Chee is a staple in Korean cuisine, I should have known that the price for their Chinese cabbage was the cheapest compared to the other supermarkets! If you're ever in the Palama neighborhood and are feeling "Korean" that day, may I suggest you stop by this little supermarket to see what treasures you can score that day. :D read more

Groceries, bentos, snacks...cannot beat this place! I had always heard how the sushi and bentos were good. What a selection and cannot beat the prices for the hot and ready foods! When I think of Korean food, two syllables - MANDOO! I grabbed a pack of fried mandoo for just $3.50!!! And they have a variety available! Chives, Kim Chee...so many choices! My family likes fried rice! Look no further! Shrimp, Kim Chee, Kalbi...and then don't get me talking about the bentos and Korean sushi rolls! Went at 11:30 am on a Sunday and the parking lot had plenty of spaces and the store wasn't that crowded :) I'll definitely be back! read more

I enjoy Paloma market. Not sure if I'd call it super but none the less it has most of what I need. My favorites are( Their local kimchi. Really great and tasty and I don't need to by a 1/2 gallon. The local tofu dubu firm for making mondu to fried versions. And mondu wrappers. Of course their fresh produce is good quality. Scallions mushrooms lettuce etc Korean snacks plenty of choices. As well as the various essential's gochujang sesame oil soy sauce fermented bean paste. I prefer the King street store location. The employees are so helpful and friendly. They take the time to help you find products. read more

I went to the King St. market this week. I used to treat myself to their homemade wonbok kimchee though the price has gone up considerably, available only in pre-packed cartons @11.99. It was quite bad with gobs of chili paste smothered around the cabbage; like it was made by an apprentice rather than the master kimchee maker. I had to rinse out whatever I could, and salvaged what I could. I am not Korean, but I don't think Koreans would appreciate chunks of chili paste randomly placed on the stems and leaves. Will stick with Hi-Max or Joe Kim. read more

The place is a bit tight but they offer a lot. The other locations offer a bit more for the store is bigger and more organized. I think this store looks a lot more congested and it's not as clean but all you want for Korean food is there. I was a bit disappointed with Korean bbq menu. I like making that for myself and I didn't find much. Kudos to the banchan they have but the prices are so so high!!! Amazing one small container of broccoli coating you over $5!!! That's just so wrong. Anyhow I got what I needed to and everyone to each his own. I just don't like price gauging when it's not necessary. read more

How could I have not written a review for Palama supermarket? This is my "go to" spot for Korean Kim Chee, noodles, "Korean bento", well everything Korean! The bento is packed with stuff for only $7! The namul and other assorted vegetarian dishes are great. The fish jun is amazing. The kim bap - especially the gobo one is really good! They also have a makeup store in there that has had hand sanitizer throughout this pandemic - when everyone else was out. Yes it costs $3 for a tiny squeeze tube, but it was available. In the back, they have a place where you can order food to go. Their Cass beer is about a $1.50 cheaper than 88 Palpal supermarket for a 6 pack. The parking lot is somewhat confusing and their carts go in all directions, but this place is still the best overall. I like the king street location the best and the workers are nice. read more

First time visiting this location, and I'm so excited to try the many different Asian goodies we found! This spot is bigger than the Waimalu location but not by much. There's a lot more fresh food selections. There's also a meat section! If there's anything to hate on this location, it would be the parking. Not many stalls available. And especially right now, many are lacking common sense! Parking where you're not supposed to... Pandemic or not, I still think common sense, isn't so common. Anyways, I've been searching for microwave dukbokki that wasn't flaming hot, for a while now. I kinda found it, but it's still got a guy sweating on the cover. I guess when it comes to Korean foods, that's the best it'll get. I was also interested in finding similar goods we had while traveling Japan. My kids were so happy when I brought home the ice cream packs! Just like going to Family Mart! Mr G. Always loves the fresh prepackaged foods! This location has a bigger selection for sure. Quick and easy lunch/snack and decently priced. He definitely gets excited about checking out Palama just for that alone. Overall, our visit was a good one. Got what we needed and more. Yoboseo! Maybe it's the time of day but this location didn't seem as crowded as the Makaloa Street location. I was lucky and found a good parking spot! Shelves are well stocked and they offer lots of traditional ingredients you might need that the regular grocery store doesn't have. Their fruits and vegetables are fresh, and it's always fun to see what kind of herbs they sell too. We were just grabbing a quick bite to eat and loved their variety in cooked/packed meals to go. My all time favorite Korean noodles are made with sweet potato! Props to the person who makes this cinnamon punch available. Palama Supermarket is a Korean staple in the community. I got to both the King street location and the Makaloa St location. Both have a cafe that provides excellent take out food with modest places to sit and eat. The staff is efficient but not overly friendly. The quality of the food here is outstanding so I don't care if they r not friendly. I always get at least one kimbap. Hobo is my favorite. They have excellent ready made bentos that I buy often bc I don't have to wait for it. Love the fried squid and meat juhn---but there r at least 20 different kinds that I cld easily like. The fresh produce is also outstanding. The fruits r the sweetest. All produce is fresh and seems to last longer than the regular grocery stores. Once I had an apple in my refrigerator for WEEKS and it was still crisp and sweet when I cut it. read more

I like the different selection of Korean foods, groceries, household items, etc from here. Sometimes the pricing for things is a little higher compared to other stores for the same products. Though when they do have specials and sales it's worthwhile. There wasn't a lot of workers working when I went. I felt like I kept passing the same worker multiple times as I don't usually have an organized 'shopping list' and often past the same aisle 5 times and rediscover new things to buy. If you like yogurt sojus, this is the place where you can stock up on supplies. They have a few different flavors of chumchurum sojus and a bunch of different flavored fruit yogurt drinks. I tried the peach flavor chilled and it was very smooth. Only word of caution, ***please check the expiration dates on the items you grab. I usually do where ever I shop, but I didn't this time... I grabbed 2 boxes of strawberry hello panda cookie cracker kid's snacks. I was gonna mail these off to my mainland friends as a part of care packages. When I got home, I checked and realized they where well beyond a few months from the printed expiration date on the box. Funny thing, they were on sale so that's why I grabbed them. Instead of going all the way back to the store to return them or ask for a refund, I did what any big kid would do... I compiled a mental list of "what's the worst that could happen?" And then I ate them. Lol. My stomach felt fine afterwards. But use your best judgement. In the future though I will be sure to carefully inspect expiration dates on all products from everywhere that I shop. read more

This is my favorite Korean grocery store on the island! I found that they have the most reasonable prices on specialty items like sweet potato and Korean grapes. They also carry items that I haven't seen in other Korean stores like perilla leaves. The vegetables are always fresh, and they always have a weekly sale going on. Worst service ever! Both Kalihi and Pearl City locations have the rudest cashiers. No greeting, just a grouchy/mean face, acting like the customer is a bother, doesn't ask if we need a bag, when we ask for one they either throw the bag and push your groceries to the side (no help) but look at you to hurry up, if not they bag only half and push the rest off for you to finish the rest. Although they have great products, I will never go back because it's just not worth it! There are better places that deserve the public's patronage. If they want to keep their business perhaps they should learn to have a little aloha! read more

However, I prefer this location over the one located on Makaloa street because not only is it spacious and less cluttered inside, the parking lot is waaay better. There used to be this crazy parking lot attendant man there a few years ago, but I haven't seen him in a long time, thank goodness. The dude was nuts. Anyway, got a hankering for Korean eats? My co-worker said to me try this corn chip it's very addicting so I tried it and it was good! I ask her where did she get it and she replied Sams Club and of course I'm not a member only Costco boo. It almost taste like a Bugles chip but not salty it's sweeter , so if you don't like too much sweet your not going to like this. My boss through conversation said he saw it at Costco so I was happy to hear that I was going down to get some today because I was hooked. Than he explain to my co-worker that the bag looks like a turtle and my co-worker said she doesn't remember so that was no help to me. Than my boss said he thinks he seen it at Palama Market and they sell it there too. So this afternoon I was going on a wild goose chase determined looking for this chips. I was at Palama Market on King St. looking for this product High and low in the snack aisle . Finally I almost gave up and of course on the lowest shelf I seen a bag w/a turtle design and it said sweet corn flavor . I said this must be it so I purchased 2 bags one for my sister to try and one for myself .My sister and I always share places to go and new snack or food to try and yes she also a Elite Yelper Can't wait to go home and watch some television w/a bowl of this new snack that I really enjoy and found.
