Let's start this off on a positive note. The employees were pleasant and patient, which I appreciate because I'm a bit of a hard sell. The Brisket slices were extremely succulent and tasty, and the Zoodle salad I got as one of my sides was crisp, fresh and tasty.. I also got "cilantro seasoned rice" and shredded chicken; and that's where the good review ends. Let's talk about the rice, never have I had more tasteless rice in my life. And the chicken, while pleasant in texture; didn't fall too far off from the tasteless tree. I'm sure I know what you're thinking.. "Why didn't you put some BBQ sauce on it?" That would of been great if they would of provided it. They stuck two cups of tomato paste(terrible tomato paste by the way, way too watery) in, perhaps by accident.. either way I did end up salvaging the chicken and rice by way of turning it into tacos at home using my own tortillas, BBQ sauce, and shredded cheese. I don't think I have to be saying this, but I shouldn't be adding my own BBQ sauce at home after spending almost 20 bucks at a smokehouse bbq joint. Excellent BBQ in this small town! I had the pulled pork taco and side of pickles. It was absolutely delicious! My husband had pulled pork sandwich with a side of beans. He chose the coleslaw and pickle topping. The mustard, as suggested, was amazing! Our friend had the pulled pork taco and thought it was delicious!!! Wow ! ! ! This is seriously, great barbecue. My wife and I were visiting family in Gladwin, coming in from Atlanta --- we ate here twice; and tried almost everything on the menu. Headliners : Brisket --- next best place would be in Austin, Texas. Ribs ---- you need to go to Georgia or Alabama to come close. Smoked sausage ---- excellent. If you ever watch BBQ contests on TV (Yes, I do love BBQ that much) --- this is what the best smoke-masters serve. Check out the smoke ring; perfect texture; meat quality; truly is award winning level. And as a bonus the sides are great. My favorite was the coleslaw. Sorry, but if your idea of BBQ is using a crockpot with lots of store bought sauce; this may not be your thing. But if you want totally legit smoke-master quality ---- this is worth a drive. read more

By far the best BBQ in the area. Lots of options on the menu and plenty of tables to eat at. The ribs actually have some burn/bark which is great. They appear to run through things pretty quick, so the menu is "first come first served" it seems, but with all the variety that shouldn't be a problem. There is tons of parking around and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended! read more

I hired this company for my daughters wedding. Food was good BUT they ran out of supplies and food. The catering menu you pick two apps, 3 sides and 2 mains. We had 252 people show up and paid for 270. The company told me that they don't leave left overs because they bring extra food. The plates for the apps were thin and ran through to table cloth, plus they didn't bring enough plates for apps or dinner so they ran out! Plus they ran out of food. How humiliating. The owner was completely in denial regarding their lack of preparation. read more

Great food. The broccoli salad is great and so is the homemade sausage. There is nothing bad - lots of choices.

Me and my parents went in and had lunch, service was great, and food was amazing. We really enjoyed the smoked brisket, chicken, and pork. Broccoli salad and beans were great. My only "tips" would we wanted more BBQ sauce with the meal, and see Mac and cheese make the menu. We will definitely be back. read more

Pretty good. I've sampled BBQ from all across our great nation...from Houston, Chicago, and Memphis. And this place does a lot right. BBQ should be able to stand on its own without sauce, and this place does. The ribs have bark...a concept lost to most michiganders. And this is a good thing. Wife had the brisket sandwich. Rendered out the fat cap really nicely. That meat comes from the lean section of the brisket, and it was sliced a while ago, so that is going to push it a bit dry...but no worse than most places that serve brisket. It was perfectly tender. The rest of the family had pulled pork dishes (taco and sandwich) and these were very good. Tried the beans and the orzo salad sides and these were good. Prices seemed fair. I don't use a lot of sauce, but I did try theirs and I really liked it. But sauce is very personal, so your mileage may vary. I hope this place can keep at it. Sometimes good food in small towns seems to struggle...I hope the Gladwinites realize they have a good thing here and keep it in business. The food is very very good, we had the large nachos and it was more than enough for 2 people. The pork was tender and juicy and the kickin shrimp were cooked perfectly. The restaurant itself is in a 1898 old home that is stunning to see. A step back in time with good eats, excellent service, what else could you ask for. Second time we went there. First time we got there and they said they were closing even though their website and hours on the door said they closed in over an hour. Second time we went , we ordered pulled pork sandwich, it was ice cold, a Cuban in which the pulled pork was so dry nothing helped. We did ask for bbq sauce for it but the sauce was more of a glorified ketchup. We also ordered the flight of tacos and the server failed to tell us they were out of brisket and shrimp! She also satiated they were out of ribs. Never was any of this states when we went to order! They replaced it with hamburger that I wouldn't of given to a dog! Server stated they wouldn't have brisket till the spring because if they served it, it would run about $40 a pound! I lived in St. Louis, Missouri for over 20 years and this doesn't even come close to bbq! Very disappointed and will never go back. Too bad since they could be outstanding with a little effort! Have been waiting to try Pale Blue since they moved to the Stone House and the hours of operation made it difficult. We finally got the chance to go tonight and were more than disappointed. First, the service was not good at all our waitress seemed irritated that we were there and that she had to wait on us. The menu was less than impressive to be kind, very little BBQ from a smokehouse, no ribs or brisket which are staples of any smokehouse I have been to. We had a party of 4 and all placed our orders at the same time and our food came in 3 trips (not because of the amount of food) first one of our teenagers received their sandwich, then as he was finished with his sandwich 2 other members of the party received our orders (ordered the kicking shrimp tacos and the shrimp were ice cold) and finally, 10 minutes later my wife received her Club sandwich after the rest of us were pretty much done with our food. Her club sandwich was horrible, she took one bite and couldn't eat anymore as the turkey tasted bad. She asked for a box, and we threw it out when we got to McDonald's where we had a decent meal. Will definitely not be going back again, unfortunately, that will be a one and done for us. We didn't say anything about the food as the service was already so bad, didn't figure anything positive would come out of it. And these issues had nothing to do with staffing shortages, looked to be properly staffed for amount of business they were conducting. read more

The feel fits right in with their wonderful homemade dishes and the staff makes everyone feel right at home, even when you're not a regular. Stopped in to try their chili and really liked it. It had a nice consistency and smoked flavor. Probably one of the best chilis I have had in a restaurant. The restaurant was clean and the staff very friendly. Looking forward to returning and trying more of the menu. Well worth finding. read more
