Neat little spot in downtown Calistoga with a combination of deli salads and entrees. The seating is mostly in communal table tops, so prepare to sit next to strangers or else bring a group or come early if you're not looking to share a table. We arrived for a relatively early lunch so we snagged our own table, but it looked to be filling up as we were leaving. Palisades Eatery offers a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. I was hoping to make it for breakfast, but we arrived about 15 minutes after, so we went with lunch instead. Still very reasonably priced with a good variety during lunch! I went with their Calistoga Burger, which is their take on a BBQ/western kind of burger. It comes with BBQ sauce, an onion ring, cheese, and I think bacon, if I can remember correctly. The burger was good, though not particularly large by any means. I think being on the smaller side is what drops it down to a four. My girlfriend, on the other hand, ordered a salad with salmon, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The salmon looked to be very well cooked and the portions seemed generous for how pricey salmon can be. Sorry but I ate too quickly to snap pics. I had the steak tacos, beer-battered cod, and some fries. There was a pick de gallo salsa that had a citrus flavor that gave me no reason to use the included lime wedges, awesome. Oh, did I mention that I nearly filled up on just the tacos (that included organic tortillas). The cod arrived hot fresh and crispy. Have to say, pretty darn good little place. This was my second time there. Pizza was surprisingly good. (I'm an east coaster and never expect much from California pizza..sorry..) but this was very VERY good! I wouldn't hesitate to get that again, Roast beef and cheddar sandwich? Yum...Yep, loved it. Service seems always very quick and super friendly. Only thing was I didn't "love" the fries. But I know fries are subject to taste, they were nice and hot though. Back when I was in college, they had a location in St. Helena and I was obsessed with the Big N Tasty sandwich and was of course heartbroken when they closed down. To my delight, many years later in 2021, I was excited to be reunited with the Big N Tasty sandwich! However, this time around, the sandwich wasn't as life changing as I remembered. It was a solid sandwich, I had better, but I think I have a hard time criticizing a sandwich I once had fond memories of. My boyfriend had a club sandwich with roast beef and it definitely outshone my order. I would love to come back and see what else this place has to offer. read more

Stopped here for some lunch on the way out of Calistoga. We would have loved to eat outside as they had a nice patio set up, but it was pouring rain. We went inside to order and our food was ready in 15 minutes. We had a pepperoni pizza and carnitas burrito, both of which were great! Service was very friendly too! We stopped in for a late lunch after a wine tasting on a Monday afternoon and we really liked this place. I ordered the Turkey Club and a side of fries and my friends ordered the BBQ pork sandwich and a burger. I LOVED my Turkey club and the fries were delish. One of my friends didn't like the BBQ pork sandwich as much because there was too much BBQ sauce, overwhelming the taste of the pork. But we all loved the fries. The following things, not in order of annoying-ness: 1. Poor signage and therefore totally disorganized. People stand around in clumps because no one's sure where to order or pay. There's a small sign that says "order here" on one of the counters, but there were 10 people milling around when we rolled up, and no one seemed to know a) if there was a line, and b) whether they were in it. 2. There are two lines in the same place: one for ordering, and one for paying. Since there's poor signage, there's no indication that there are 2 lines, or where each one begins/ends. 3. There are ginormous menus that hang above the kitchen. As you can see in the attached photos, the breakfast menu is prominently featured. On the breakfast menu there are eggs, burritos and burgers. There is nothing on the menu to indicate the this menu is time-limited, so you'd think everything on the menu - including eggs, burritos and burgers - are served all day, yes?? .... WRONG!!!! No breakfast menu after 11am (but burgers are on that menu and they are served after 11am? Ehhh?) So when you order a sandwich off that menu, and they bring you something completely different, and you go back and ask for the thing you ordered off that menu, THEN they will tell you that they don't fry eggs after 11am. And they will point to the plastic menu (in the photo) and say, "See, we cover the breakfast menu after 11am!" Then you will point to the ginormous (uncovered) menu above her head and say, "But you don't." (And furthermore, if the breakfast menu is UNDER that other menu, how are any of us supposed to know what's being covered?!) Then you can stand on one of the confusing long lines and get a refund for the sandwich you didn't actually order. Awesoooome. 4. Food is unimpressive and I can't figure out why other reviews are more than 2-star. (Unless the kids get drunk and come here at night to eat the fries...?) Our party got a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and prepared foods. The butternut squash was thin and milky, the veggies limp and wilted, and the grilled cheese tasted like burned oil :( When you can't eat a deli's grilled cheese, you've encountered a #majorfail. I appreciate the convenience of a downtown deli, but this place is poorly organized and the food is sub-par. Go elsewhere. p.s. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy even the pickiest eater in your party. The staff here is always friendly and you can dine in or take out. My first stop at the Palisades Deli Cafe was a few years ago, after being recommended by a local. The food made it's impression and coming back to Calistoga to do the tourista thing, I knew this place was perfect for togo lunches. Best gluten free pizza in town! I believe the dough is made from scratch, and it is epic! They make normal pizza dough too of course, but I saw the gf option and had to come in. Chewy yet crispy dough, super fresh and doesn't taste like a premade cracker of a crust. I am SO stoked we have this option in town for a casual, yummy place that would be great for groups of families. Local/global wines BTG, organic chicken, big salads....I am so happy! The sandwiches at quite yummy, but the service lacks a little. My friend and I picked up sandwiches to take to a winery for lunch. There are large chalk board menus on the wall to see their offerings, everything from sandwiches, burritos, tortas and other options. Once you figure out what you want, you order. Ok so this is where it's a little weird. There is no line to pay, and you don't get a "note" with your order. So you just tell the cashier what you ordered and pay. They you wait around, kinda awkwardly, for your sandwich. But there is no name associated, just the number of your sandwich, which you must remember. The cashier that day seemed a bit disoriented and we told her our sandwiches were ready on the counter, but she was all sorts of confused. Anyhow, streamlining that process would make things a bit smoother, but they still got good sandwiches. read more

They still have the tuna sandwich that I love, but they were considerably more conservative in their portion of tuna salad than I recall, and it was good but not amazing like before and the bread was definitely at least a few days old. We stopped by this deli on our way Castello de Amarosa. Located on the edge of the Main Street for Calistoga, this deli provided plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Based on the recommendations, we went with the Big and Tasty and the Pesto Depot. The Big and Tasty contained a piece of breaded fried chicken sandwiched with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Though it was a little heavy on the mayo, the sandwich was exactly as described, 'big and tasty.' I would skip the Pesto Depot. I understand that it is a cold sandwich but it a bit too cold. Turkey tasted like it was in the fridge for a few days. It was uninspiring and unmemorable. I've had much better Pesto sandwiches before and this one was not up to par. The place is a little confusing. You are unsure if you are supposed to wait at the counter for your food, or if they bring it to you. We had to ask, and the lady at the counter was also so-so in terms of service. The food was generally pretty good, but nothing to write home about. It is definitely a ok place to stop and grab a quick bite. read more

Had a light dinner here last night. The girl at the register could not be bothered to put down her phone to take our order. I waited and placed our order. They do not have a soda fountain so I grabbed two bottles of soda, paid and sat with my husband to wait. Had to go back to her and ask her to open our soda!! WTH! She pointed to the opener and I did it myself. Our food was brought out to us which was nice. Calzone was tasty but completely cooked through and beginning to burn on the bottom. The sauce served with it was ice cold!! Cesar salad was big and tasty. The music was obviously the choice of the staff. It is not a Mexican restaurant but that was in the radio. We stopped by Palisades Deli Café for a quick lunch when we were touring near Napa. The place was a small little deli that was not too crowded but you could tell had a loyal following. The service was quick and the food was tasty. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese. It was smothered with tangy bbq sauce and stuffed with chicken and bacon.
