I came here with a group of work friends for a private dinner upstairs. I walked in and the hostess looked a little surprised to see me. I tried to ignore that and asked for our party's name and was led upstairs and in a slightly huffy fashion. I'm rather petite and look younger than I am so I am used to people being surprised when I show up places. This was probably no different, but still, a disappointing introduction to the restaurant. I was immediately seated and given my requisite glass of wine, a red blend of sorts recommended by the waiter. It paired wonderfully with the meal. We ordered family style and had the lemon, garlic al dente linguine, the roasted chicken with garlic potatoes, salsa verde steak, the arancini, and an assortment of desserts. The food overall was amazing and I would come back just for that. The arancini is a MUST order, for sure they were one of the best I've ever eaten. The chicken and potatoes were delicious as well and would order those again. They were creamy, salty, and crunchy yet yielding. Just as you would imagine they would be. The ambiance upstairs was beautiful as well -- there were a lot of books and it seemed like a private library. The downstairs area had a beautiful garden and wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear your group, but it wasn't too quiet where everyone would hear your conversation. Overall, will absolutely be back, but I'll probably be wearing more "adult" clothes this time. read more

I came back again recently with a group of 8 and they gave us a private room, which I thought was really nice. Overall, I still really like this place and think it deserved my 4 star rating - the server was great, and the food was generally still good. The gluten free Cacio e Pepe ravioli was still amazing, so I'd still recommend that. We also got a frittata misto this time around and I thought the options on there were nice for sharing. However, the reason for my update is to flag that this time around the steak was just not good - it was extremely over cooked and bland. I don't think I'll be ordering it next time. read more

I was excited to try this place due to the good reviews and the fact that they use organic, fresh, ingredients. However the service was not very good and the food was mediocre. It was not worth the price I paid. The waitstaff were inattentive-- long waits for food, drinks, and removing plates. For example appetizers came before the wine. Note: the tables are quite small so I noticed the plates more so than maybe I otherwise would have. I tried the chicken Milanese, fettuccine Al funghi, and the salad. The fresh ingredients and homemade pasta were highlights. The food did not have much depth of flavor compared to similar dishes I have had at other restaurants around the same price point. The wine was unremarkable. There was a small amount of cork in the wine. It tasted like it had been sitting for a few hours. Again, based on my experience at similarly priced restaurants, I expected more at that price point. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to trying this place. Wow! Really amazing Italian food - very authentic and flavorful. Polpettine (meatballs with roasted tomato sauce and basil) were delicious. Equally delicious was the pappardelle (homemade with slow roasted lamb, olives and pecorino). This is probably the closest you will come to authentic Italian food outside of Italy. In my top 5 of best Italian restaurants in NYC. Great location in the charming West Village. This place is a trip to Italy without going to Italy. Server was from rome and we reminisced together of times in rome! He was a delight. Very delicious food and great service. Mains took a little longer to come out than expected but it was fine, it was Italian time. What can we say? We had a great night. Very cute spot for a date or a girls night out!! We stumbled in here on the humble for the gfs bday after some slight disagreements on the choice of restaurant. But to be honest this was the best experience that we could have ever hoped for we literally showed up with 10min left and they were happy to accommodate with a beautiful meal and choice wine. I asked for a candle situation and boom; candle on the cake, we asked for the best special appetizer boom; fresh red snapper salad. Service, food quality, and ambiance were all on point. It's on the pricy side but definitely worth it especially when I look at the pictures from that night! Pro Tip: This restaurant has a beautiful indoor garden area that has actual tomato plants and roses. But there are also several private dining spaces including a kitchen that features original decor from the 1800s. Try: the red wine from montepulciano and the entree fettuccine black truffle both were solid choices. read more

Palma is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. This is my fourth time here, and every time Zuppa di Pesce was included in my order. It has tomato based broth with various seafood, including lobster, calamari, scallops, prawns, sea bass, and mussels. Seafood is cooked tender and soft and harmonious with the broth. The flat bread crust is crisp and can be eaten alone or dipped into the broth. I have gotten Fettuccine Ai Funghi twice total and it actually tasted better this time around. Last time I remember it being a little too creamy and heavy but this time the balance of sauce and fettuccine was just right. I absolutely loved it and would be coming back for special occasion! read more

We made a reservation for 4 on a Thursday night a week in advance, but spots were already almost filled! The restaurant itself is very pretty, with flowers on the walls and a courtyard-like seating area. We started off with the carciofi, insalata di pomodoro, and involtini di melazane. I'm personally not the biggest fan of artichoke (carciofi) but thought it was a really cool dish. The insalata di pomodoro was my favorite appetizer for sure, the heirloom tomatoes were so fresh and seasoned to perfection. The involtini di melanzane was a super interesting dish, I thought the ricotta paired really well with the eggplant, a bonus that it was Buffalo ricotta! For entrees, the fettuccini al fungi was my favorite main course, the fresh fettuccine definitely elevated it, and the truffle was delicious. The lobster in the spaghetti all'astice added freshness and texture to this spaghetti, I loved it. The ravioli cacio e Pepe was super filling but really good! The filling was great and the ravioli was seasoned so well. We got their special entree: prosciutto wrapped prawns with scallops, and it was a very well balanced dish with huge portions of seafood. One of my favorite Italian restaurants in NYC! I have been to this restaurant a few times (a while back) and am just getting around to writing a review. Overall, I have had very solid dining experiences at Palma. Firstly, the ambiance is incredible (especially the garden seating area in the back - request a seat back here if you can). In addition, the food is delicious. I remember liking everything that I have tried here but some notable mentions are the Burrata with eggplant (may have been a special), the Calamari, the Ravioli Cacio E Pepe, and the Baked Alaska dessert. On a recent fabulously sunny and warm December Saturday we had a most memorable brunch in this gorgeous restaurant tucked away on adorable Cornelia St. We got there before our friend did and for a moment thought perhaps the restaurant wasn't quite open. The front room still had chairs up on the tables but the hostess politely ushered us into what is known as the garden Now here I felt like Alice falling down the rabbit hole as this room was simply stunning in all it's Italian-esque glory and such a far cry from the NYC street-scape just outside the door. This brick-walled, fully sky-lit atrium-like room simply amazes. The decor is pretty, rustic and charming right down to the glazed plates. So while you can in fact eat in the front room, I'd be sure to inquire whether dining in the garden is an option because that for me, is clearly the place to be. The brunch menu was simple but with ample choices. I went with with mushroom omelet. But this omelette was made more special by the use of Hen-of-the-Woods mushrooms as part of the delectible assortment. It came with a side of sliced potatoes and a small mesclun salad. My husband got a focaccia sandwich filled with flavorful shredded pork and our friend Dana W. got another of the omelettes. . We shared an additional large mixed-greens salad as well. Palma buys their produce from local organic markets including a farm in the Hudson Valley. There is a lovely selection of beverages including wine and the always favorite Italian beer, Peroni. Our server was very sweet and efficient. He never rushed us, was present at all the right times but never hovering. He told us he was originally from Florence and kindly put up with my Italian. We had a lovely repast and I'm so looking forward to a return visit. While there, do take a peek at the gorgeous back room adjacent to the garden room. It's set-up like a stunning Italian home dining room. While we were there it was set up for a large party and couldn't have been prettier or cozier. It would be ideal for a private function as there is a door that closes it off from the garden. Palma is a terrific oasis and calming respite in the midst of noisy Manhattan. I'd wanted to go to Palma for some time, and I'm very glad I was finally able to make it for one of my many bday dinners. I did, however, completely forget to tell them it was my birthday- oops! We walked into what felt like a romantic winter wonderland with all the flowers draped from the garden ceiling. This is definitely a small restaurant, so I would recommend coming with no more than 4 people if you want to be seated in the coveted garden. Any larger than that will have to be "inside" where it's still pretty, but not quintessential Palma. I am giving them 4 stars and not 5 only because the pasta dish that they recommended wasn't good at all, but everything else about Palma is 5 stars. We did not have any trouble getting seated promptly for our reservation on a Friday night. The waiter was really lovely, and service overall was great. We started with the Vie en Rose cocktail, which was delicious. We did, however, order 2 rounds, and the second round came out a completely different pink than the first one did; it was much darker. I'm not sure if it was the same bartender or not, but regardless, they were dinged there for inconsistency. We started with the Arancini (crispy risotto), fritto misto (calamari), and cavolfiore alla Siciliana (sautéed cauliflower). All were excellent, but we could have done without the calamari, which was just average. I highly recommend the other two, though! For mains, we ordered the house special salad for the evening, which was a fettuccine pasta with a homemade sage butter sauce, chicken, and sausage. Neither my friend nor I liked the pasta, and we usually love all pastas we eat. We were debating between this one and one from the menu, so we should've done the latter. Although we didn't like the main dish, we could tell the pasta was cooked perfectly, and it was a nice portion. The flavors and textures just weren't to our liking. Overall, I will most definitely be back to Palma. Pro tip: if you stand in front of the restaurant on Cornelia Street, you can see Taylor Swift's old apartment, which she wrote the song "Cornelia Street" about on her latest album Lover! read more

It was a bit cold in the covered patio as there were only a few heat lamps on the edges but not the center Drinks: Got the Ketel, basil, lemon cocktail and that was one of the best things of the night- very fresh and herb forward Food: Here is where I had an issue.. I appreciate having a rotating menu to utilize ingredients from each season however there was nothing that was really stand out on the menu. There were absolutely zero salads (was hoping for a nice carpaccio, tri color, or even a caesar) or one of the pastas to be standout. A few of us had some issues finding something that we were excited about since everything sounded so heavy. We ended up getting the fried calamari/rock shrimp which was nicely fried but for some reason didn't come with any dipping sauce, the meatballs which were decent but needed a bit more spice, and the artichokes which were COVERED in wayyy too much basil that part was inedible. I know, sounds insanely early for dinner but it ended up being the perfect time! Arrived at the restaurant and my friends had already sat down. They seated us in the back courtyard. It was decorated like a beautiful Italian countryside patio. Only one other party was there and they had glass dividers between everyone. Not once did I feel concerned about the cleanliness or protocol. Alright, onto the good stuff! We sat around 5:30 and they gave us plenty of time to decide on a drink. They do ask that you order the food all at once but we were not rushed to order anything and truly had a peaceful experience talking through what we were going to order (lol, not the norm these days but understandable since restaurants have limited hours). We ordered two bottles of red wine, crispy artichokes, grilled octopus and an entree. I ordered the spinach & ricotta pasta, one of the only non-gluten free pasta options. Everything was DELICIOUS! Even the complimentary bread was delicious! My favorite was the crispy artichokes. Great flavor and decent portion size. It's been 8 years since I've been to Palma and it seems to have only gotten better with age. Our server was friendly and helpful in us finding the right dishes. It was a gorgeous spring evening so we were lucky to sit at the table by the open window up-front. Our table split a lot of tasty dishes, where we enjoyed the risotto balls, Insalata Mela e Radicchio (one of my favorites - so fresh!), Cavolfiore alla Siciliana (yummy cauliflower dish), Melanzane alla Parmigiana e Scamorza Affumicata (devine eggplant dish), Fettuccine Funghi e Tartufo ("can I have some more please," mushroom pasta dish), and the Agnolotti Ricotta e Spinaci. Then came dessert... WOW, the desserts are ***5 stars***. We loved the fresh, creamy tiramisu and fluffy, perfect orange blossom cannolis. read more

We loved this restaurant! It reminds you of a small village in Italy. Palma is set in a West Village townhouse, its intimate dining rooms have great ambiance. Flowers everywhere! Before dining, Chef Luciano Sosa took us on tour and we got to experience all floors and outdoor dining spaces. This is a place that should not be missed! Great for parties and even offers cooking classes for those interested in making homemade pasta. For dinner, we started with tasty arancini's risotto bites, incredible sardine all'escabeche, which one of the daily chef specials, homemade sourdough focaccia, melanzane rolled eggplant with buffalo ricotta, fritto misto fried calamari and carciofi crispy roman artichokes. We followed with the spaghetti all'astice served al denté with Maine lobster and vesuvian vine tomato sauce. By this point, we were pretty full but managed to save some room for the Halibut fish special with orange zest spinach and salmone selvaggio wild Ora King salmon with a delicious tapenade. For dolce, we had the affogato espresso caramel ice cream and mango sorbet. Everything was a perfect balance of flavor and quality ingredients. Our server and host, Claudia and chef's Angelo and Luciano were attentive and accommodating. Palma is a must. We can't wait to return again. read more

Palma is by far my favorite Italian restaurant in the West Village! Besides the beautiful ambiance, the food is amazing!! We came for dinner and got seated in the beautiful garden. The setting is so romantic but also great for a nice dinner with friends. It feels like you've been transported to a garden in Tuscany. The interior of the restaurant has a rustic, chic decor and filled with pretty flowers at every corner! The owner stopped by our table and offered to give us a tour of the whole house and her rooftop garden. Now let's talk about the food! Everything was amazing! We had the Frito Misto to start and it was so delicious! For my entreé, I had the Spaghetti with Langoustine. The pasta and the lobster were really fresh and flavorful. My friend ordered the Fettuccine Al Funghi and Truffle... so delish!! I would also recommend the Black Cod. EVERYTHING was so good! I will definitely keep coming back to Palma.
