Love the vibe at the proper hotel. Palma is great for brunch but the service is definitely a bit slow. Great place to catch up with friends and plan a date night. Breakfast options are great and lots of healthy juices and smoothies. Dinner was just ok. The pasta was a bit dry and a little too sweet. I'd highly recommend going for brunch instead of dinner. Valet parking is pricey but there are a lot of metered spots around.

Tea service

We came in for the tea on a Sunday afternoon. The space is so visually interesting! Lots of arches, textures, light and greenery. Everywhere my eye landed sparked curiosity and interest. We loved the food (new fall menu), and the price was reasonable! What stood out was the chef. Our server wasn't sure about some of the dietary restrictions and consulted with the chef a few times before the chef came out to confer with my friend directly. Then they, very graciously, adapted the tea to fit my friend's needs better. (It's a lactose intolerance, but cheese is ok - it's a complicated one!). Our actual server was mostly invisible, and it took forever to get the check and then to pay the check, but we were posted up for about three hours - so that might've been part of it. The chef checked on us twice!! So we felt taken care of. None of us were drinking and were surprised when options weren't mentioned - however, they have a non-alcoholic sparkling wine option that my friends enjoyed, and I was able to substitute a fresh squeezed orange juice for the Prosecco. We all agreed that we would come back again!

This is a large, beautifully designed restaurant where no two tables feel the same. The furniture, décor, and layout are incredibly unique, and the abundance of plants throughout the space makes it feel like a Caribbean resort rather than a typical dining room. The service was excellent--attentive, warm, and well-timed. The food stood out for its freshness and clean, healthy flavors. Salads were especially impressive, lightly dressed with minimal condiments so the natural ingredients really came through. The freshly squeezed drinks were refreshing and thoughtfully crafted, adding to the overall resort-like experience. A truly relaxing place to enjoy fresh food in a stunning, one-of-a-kind setting.

Being a guest at the Proper Hotel, my stay comes with complimentary breakfast up to $40 per person and I'm very shocked at the quality of ingredients every dish comes with. Service from Johnathan this morning 11/26 was very good. Started with a pineapple juice and ordered and parfait and a salmon cream cheese bagel. Both were amazingly eye catching and delicious. Nice cool little tables or lounge couches to sit on if the bar top is full. Can't wait until tomorrow to try more of the menu.

This review is about the high tea experience here at Palma: My mom and I love to try new high tea restaurants and tried the one here yesterday. It exceeded every expectation we had! The presentation, the food, the service, the ambience, and everything in between was perfection! We left incredibly pleased with our experience! The high tea here is either $85 for the assorted food, tea of your choice and one glass of champagne. There is a $105 option as well for the same thing but the champagne is unlimited. We got the unlimited. You also have the option to make your tea hot or iced. I suggest hot as high tea is served hot. As for the food selection, everything is absolutely delicious! It's filling too. Whoever is behind the scenes creating the masterpiece of food does a wonderful job! Lastly our server, whom I forgot the name of, was phenomenal. He explained everything for us and made our time here the best day ever. Can't wait to be back! And if you want to have a nice fancy lunch with friends or family, come to Palma! You will have to pay for valet unless you park elsewhere, and it was $24 for the couple hours we spent.

Service was good! We were seated immediately and table of our choice since it wasn't too busy. The interior has a nice chill vibe design our pictures taken together turned out nice. The food here was actually amazing too. Pan seared salmon with crispy skin. Fries with seasoning but taste addictive to me . Then pesto was one of the better ones. I did not expect it to turn out this good given the name but I loved the pesto! Would try again! When I save some money up . This is a pretty pricey meal!

This review is for the afternoon tea. AMAZING! My girlfriends and I like to check out different afternoon tea places around LA and this one rates high. The lounge has a great vibe the service was attentive. You get a choice of either one glass of bubbles or bottomless. We opted for one glass. The cup of tea itself was lovely but it was the food that was amazing. It was super plentiful so come hungry. Lots of little tea sandwiches - smoked salmon on a mini bagel, cucumber sandwich, endive with cream cheese, crab salad and a delicious radish sandwich with salted butter. Each sandwich was better than the next. Then a plate of sweets - scones, cakes, pudding - yum. There's no such thing as too much food but I couldn't finish it. Such a nice experience!

Spectacular happen here at Palma Santa Monica! The food is amazing along with the services and ambiance is outstanding!! Ivan helped me out at the bar area. He is friendly, professional and fast. He understands the importance of hospitality. Ivan has a great attitude and it shows!! He was super busy and still made my experience amazing. I go to different parts of la to dine but the proper hotel Palma is a top choice on my list when I come to Santa Monica and in general. They had a live do playing tonight, it felt like a party. Carlos was super nice too and very pleasant to be around. The employees here are the reason why I love coming here. I go to different places but I'm not always moved to leave a review but when it's amazing, they need the recognition!!! Hayden the manager is super proficient too. He makes my visit here memorable!! I had the pleasure of getting greeted by Kim, literally makes me super happy spending my time and money here. This place has the ambience, reasonable prices and amazing team that works hard to show you matter!!! Thank you Hayden for making a great choice in your team, keep shining!!! This is your sign to bring your people here to the Palma in Santa Monica.

Afternoon tea Went here today. Like the lounge feel with the diverse seating options. The bar is picture worthy and the staff are warm and nice. The tea was $85 and had a good selection with a large amount of food and comes with a glass of champagne. It's not the same flair as some of the high end tea experiences in the area but it's comfortable. They have background music but no live music. No food substitutions. The actual tea is ok. They also offer a brunch menu which is not like other tea experiences. The blue crab roll and the charcoal cucumber sandwich was was really good. Will go back!

We got the afternoon tea service at the Palma lounge area in the proper hotel. There is a valet parking right when you pull into the front of the hotel. The food was great, the afternoon tea includes five sweet and savory items and a choice of a tea (either hot or cold). The ambience is relaxed, plenty of sunshine beaming through the drapes so the room is bright and has a wooden and plant like feel. There's a cool library or beach room nested in the front of the restaurant. Overall a great vibe

Beautiful hotel and decor. We came in for an afternoon tea. Our waiter Jeremy was great until he started upselling everything. The only option for water was "still" or "sparkling". Brought us a $12 bottle of "still". When asked if we wanted the afternoon tea of single glass or more, we asked for a single bottle. He then came around offering another round of prosecco "don't mind me" just pouring some making it seem like it was on him. This was misleading and disappointing. Our bill was much higher than expected because of this.

What I love the most about the Palma lounge at the Proper Hotel is the decor and cool vibe. I've gone several times - for dinner, brunch and just drinks. I'm a huge Kelly Wearstler fan and adore every single piece at this location. The food here is decent. It's nothing extraordinary and the portions are definitely on the smaller side. The drinks are good and my encounter with the bartenders have been pleasant most times. I do think it's a little overpriced (food and drinks), but I guess that is common at hotels. Just to give you an idea, last night I stopped by after an event and got an espresso martini, which came out to $30. My friend got a mocktail, and it came out to almost $20. Overall, I still recommend this place and will be going back.

I can honestly say that we've never had bad service. After reading some of the reviews, I guess we've been pretty fortunate because our experiences have always been positive. I actually appreciate the security team for helping ensure everyone stays safe, and they've always been friendly and professional with us. The bar has plenty to enjoy, including a pool table, fireplaces, and various games. The bartenders are organized and efficient. Don't expect a lot of engagement, as they're typically very busy, especially when the place gets crowded. Tonight, we had no problem finding a seat, and other guests were very accommodating about sharing space. Overall, it was a great night and a wonderful way to wrap up our evening in Santa Monica. Tips: It can get noisy, but hey go in with that expectation and you'll be fine. Expect the ladies restroom to have a line, It's a 2 stall. Most of the bars are dive bars in downtown Santa Monica, and parking is quite accessible for this place. So I'd recommend for that reason. In terms of the drinks, I'm a huge fan of cocktail but I would say their menu selections are a bit limited. Nothing in the signature cocktail looks interesting to me, so I had the bartender make a classic cocktail instead. He's very attentive and friendly, didn't take forever to get a drink either, no attitude. Drinks aren't watered down either. Nice! You come here to grab quick drinks when you don't feel like being at a loud dive bar in the area, it's in a hotel but not too upscale, no strict dress code. Music is not loud and they have couches and booth if bar table if not your thing, you don't have to yell or pretend you hear everything to hold a conversation here (lol). ** Keep in mind 20% gratuity is automatically included in bill, it's my first time here. But I think I've other spots I'd prefer to be in, even at Santa Monica. Wouldn't be self-motivated to come back because there are better places that specialises mixology, and there are also better upscale hotel bars to be at. But if you're around the area it's a great intimate bar for date night that's not overly pricey. Wouldn't travel all the way to here just for this (if you know what I mean).

The atmosphere alone makes it a fantastic place to sit back and take in the surroundings. To make things even better, we experienced really great service from the staff from the moment we arrived, which set a welcoming and positive tone for the entire evening. The food, however, was a bit of a mixed bag when you factor in the high prices. We started with the charcuterie board, which was decent, and the beef tartare, which was okay but certainly nothing mind-blowing. The highlight of the meal was definitely the margherita pizza topped with burrata and prosciutto, which was actually pretty tasty. Even with the pizza being a hit, I honestly felt that the overall taste of the food just wasn't worth the premium cost you pay here. The drinks were also hit or miss for us. My Old Fashioned was simply not up to par; it was very watered down, and I highly suggest the bar start using large ice cubes instead of regular ice to prevent watering down their whiskey cocktails. On the bright side, the Lou Lou cocktail was an absolute 10 out of 10 and completely saved the drink experience. I am giving this place 4 stars mostly for the top-tier service, the beautiful aesthetic, and that one perfect cocktail, but there is definitely some room for improvement in the kitchen and behind the bar.
