Because if the auger snake got stuck or was "missing," it could cost an additional $3,000-$4,000, which honestly felt like a scare tactic. Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion. The next plumber simply augered the line for $180, and everything works perfectly now -- no wall cutting, no extra charges. I'm so glad I didn't let them talk me into unnecessary work. They later lowered it to 7100. I found a reliable company that did it for 2000. They seem like a very solid company, and you can rely on them in an emergency. Though if you can, make sure to shop around.
