I would suggest ordering online for pick up if you're in a hurry. Luckily I was the first person in line and knew what I wanted so I got it really quick. The wrap was a decent size. It was filling and I was full of it. I thought it had a good amount and ratio of the filling. Big chunks of seasoned chicken. Breadcrumbs and Parmesan crisp for crunchiness. It also had shaved Parmesan. I liked that you have the option for light, medium, or heavy dressing. I asked for heavy and it was a good amount. It didn't feel dry or I needed more sauce on the side. I came back to eat Sweetgreen again, and I think it may be my last. It's too expensive for what it is, and the quality of the bowl seems to be a hit or miss. They barely gave me any corn salsa, which sucks considering they limit you to 4 free toppings. The steak was also terrible--at least a quarter of the pieces were stringy or super fatty, to the point where I couldn't eat it. First off they don't have the bowl with dividers to even make this. They also don't have whole tortilla chips, they gave us the ones that are broken up that they use on salad. Tried the Harvest Bowl, which comes with roasted chicken, roasted sweet potatoes, apples, goat cheese, roasted almonds, wild rice, shredded kale, and balsamic vinaigrette. Its not easy to get a parking spot at the location in Berkeley, CA, where I'm currently working. If it was, I'd probably eat at sweetgreen every single day. This is easily my favorite "select your own stuff" style restaurant. You just feel better when you eat like this. I've seen a few people complain about the amount of food they are getting for the price. You don't go to sweetgreen for a $1.50 hot dog and a soda... you go to sweetgreen for real food that will make you feel great the rest of the day. Ah yes, another salad spot to remind myself how much of a POS I am. This one is really good! I order from here for the other salad spot to offset the Mendocino variety for our weekly work lunches. The quality isn't OK but it isn't GREAT! Great is like mind blowing I guess. But I never really gone to much salad spots. So idk how to rate this accurately. Whatever, I digress. I usually just get the caramelized garlic steak and its not that I'm afraid to try anything else. I think I'm just that type of old soul where if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I had the harvest bowl and was disappointed. It came out like warm, soggy salad left inside a car during summer. The dressing mixed with warm roasted chicken, soften the kale and greens and it wilts. It tasted fine but omg, I got like 2TB of hummus and no crunch. One teeny half filled container of hummus = a hummus garnish, not like the main attraction. So glad I added goat cheese so it felt more substantial. The peppers were soggy (maybe marinated) as were the chick peas. I didn't expect soggy items but was hoping for fresh. I didn't realize she'd left off the crunch (the bread crumbles) until I got home. The kicker was when another customer came up asking to try a hot sauce. The woman behind the counter argued with her saying she's only allowed three dressings. The woman said she had only gotten two. The server argued and then started talking in another language to her coworker about the woman. I understand enough to know. Really poor form. Frequently in downtown San Mateo, I've passed by sweetgreen many times, but have never tried it. The salads and bowls all look and sound really good online. I finally decided to stop in to try the food. I ordered a make your own steak salad and a shroomami bowl online and my order was waiting for me upon arrival. Both items were decently sized and tasted pretty good. I paid over $35 for both which is quite steep but not out of the norm these days. The location is convenient and clean inside. I can't comment on the staff as no one acknowledged me when I walked in and grabbed the bag with my name on it. No one said anything when I walked out either. Generally it's an amazing concept of restaurant especially for people that love vegetables. If there is no huge line of people you can get you food in 2 minutes. The problem over there is everyday around noon there is many people that coming to eat at the same time and there are only 2-3 workers that making the bowls and 6-7 people that working in the beck. Pretty standard sweetgreen location. The common comment about sweetgreen and other spots like it (i.e. Mixt) is the cost for a salad, but it is what it is. The food is decent; for the salmon bowl, the rice needs a lot of help, salmon was a bit dry and overcooked, so all the other ingredients helped elevate it as much as it could. Staff is friendly. Good location on El Camino in downtown San Mateo and lots of street parking is typically available. Although I wouldn't recommend the salmon bowl, the salads are good, not the best, but good. read more

I've heard from vegetarian that this is good food so after a long biking/onewheel session with my friend who is somewhat picky about food I decided to take him here. I'm actually quite surprised that there is actually meat (such as salmon and chicken) in the menu. I however decided to go all vegetarian on this particular meal by ordering the Harvest Bowl because I want to see whether it's actually good. Honestly it's alright but not good enough to say it's good food. It's edible and possibly healthy as an occasional thing if you mostly eat meat. The Harvest Bowl has so much kale which makes it hard to digest but oh well. The wild rice and the almonds are helpful to make the food taste less than a salad but because of the kale it still tastes like a hard to chew salad. Overall, not my thing and it's probably popular among certain demographics who are over represented in the Bay Area. It's however a good place to eat if you do have to eat with people who are picky about food (not in taste but just what they can eat). I do like the place however as it not only is welcoming but also it has plugs under almost all the seating so I'm super happy that I can charge my onewheel while I'm eating. read more
