Update: I did return and got a salad - it was delicious! I got it with the blackened chicken and other ingredients. I love that they have unique, delicious, healthy add ins for the salad, espcially the mint! I will certainly return the next time I crave a delicious salad! Sandwich review: I got the "Smokey" sandwich. The grilled chicken tasted very good; the pickles and slaw tasted just "good." I could hardly taste the onion crisps and there was just a very minimal "drizzle" of the BBQ sauce. The bread was light and "airy," which I did not prefer, although some might like it that way as it doesn't weigh you down after eating. My main complaint is not enough "sauce" on this sandwich - I notice that the other sandwiches come with herb mayo or ailo sauce, but this sandwich was dry due to not enough BBQ drizzle. I watched as the worker put the slaw on one half of the bread, but the other half was completely dry, the pickles were placed on this half of the bread. I asked if there was mayo or something they put on the other side and they said "no." I might return to try the salads - I like that some of the ingredients in the salads are organic. But if I were to get another sandwich, I'd ask for them to put either aioli or herb mayo on the other half next time. read more

We tried Mixt recently, and I thought there were a few issues: -The side of bread was terrible. It tasted unbaked / raw. The middle looked wet / underbaked. I don't know what happened. Even my spouse who is not picky said it was awful and spat it out. -I had mixed greens and arugula in my salad. The arugula had a lot of stems that were really hard and I almost swallowed pieces that were really hard and piercing. Possible choke hazard. I threw a few of the harder stems out. Some positives: -The fruit that I added to the salad was fresh which I appreciated. Dressing was not bad. The salad does get expensive once you add more stuff (especially protein) so don't be surprised if the salad ends up being like $18-$20. -Ordering on the website was easy and you could walk in and pick up your bag by the counter. -The interior seemed nice to dine in. Disappointed by the actual portion size, especially after looking at the photos posted by the restaurant. The difference in portion size is night and day, and I left wondering if I accidentally ordered a half salad while paying full price. Staff appeared mostly in training and made mistakes during the assembly also, fair since it's a new place. When I mentioned to the cashier (maybe supervisor?) that the portion is very small, and whether they can add more greens, the reply was a "no, that will cost extra." We just ordered Mixt from DoorDash. We paid $5 to add chicken to a salad and got 5 little chunks of dry-ass chicken breast. Sandwich was drenched in the slaw dressing - inedible. All of the items were poor quality except for the salad greens, which is the most low cost item. We got a ton of that. Beet salad was also missing candies walnuts. Stick with Sweetgreen if you want a salad. Was excited to see a new salad offering but it's really low quality - esp. for the price point. read more

MIXT is now open! I stopped by on its first official day in business for a salad to go. I was greeted by several staff members and directed to the area where I could place my order. I ordered the Puebla salad with a few modifications: grilled chicken, added spinach, and dressing on the side. It's not a huge space (former bookstore on the corner of B Street & 3rd Avenue), but it's bright and the layout works. My order was for takeout. I added some crispy jalapeños (from Trader Joe's) when I got home which added a nice kick. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. I'm thrilled to have this new option nearby. read more

I'm so sad because the ingredients looked great. I made a custom salad to go with the dressing on the side. When I got home and opened the salad, all of the lettuce was wilted and soggy wet. I was really confused because it should not have been that wet without salad dressing. I did get cucumbers, pickled onions, tomatoes, and feta. For lettuce, I got cabbage, romaine, and mixt greens. As a longtime MIXT fan, I'm pleased to say the new San Mateo location holds up to the high standard other locations have set. We were unintentionally the very first diners at their soft opening and they came out of the gate swinging. Not only were the salad makers total pros, but everyone was beyond friendly and welcoming. My partner got a standard menu item, the Bangkok Bowl, but it's extra worth noting that when dealing with my "Design Your Own Salad" order, they were extremely attentive to the myriad options one makes. The ingredients were well-prepared, most notably the roast cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, and the preparation led to an even spread of flavor and distribution of fixings. MIXT satisfies the need for a fast casual meal at a very reasonable price, but the quality of the food belies that style of restaurant; I'd be happy eating it anywhere, anytime. While I won't have many occasions to visit San Mateo specifically after this soft opening event, I can attest to the excellence of the new location. read more

I love that healthy food is having a moment and more places are popping up that let you still have something healthy while still having a variety of options to choose from. I placed my order for online pickup so I can't speak on service but when I came to pick it up at the time specified, my order was ready on the shelf so their timeliness was good. I was surprised at how big the container was but as someone else mentioned, the serving didn't look super large considering the price (~$14-15). I planned to eat this for the next night's dinner so immediately put it in the fridge when I went home. From my 1 day later experience, the salad was still pretty solid. I got the falaf, which was their vegan falafel salad, because it had the least calories and was relatively low in sodium compared some of the more denser options. With that being said, I really liked my salad! I don't know if it's because I ate it a day later but the falafel was sadly pretty hard. It was definitely not inedible but I wish i was able to taste it when it was still fresh. Nonetheless, the food was pretty good and was able to stay within my dietary restrictions. Happy to know that I'm able to eat out here and have plenty of healthy choices that are veg/low sodium! read more

I could live here. It really is that good. I first discovered it in San Ramon, which is way too far a trek and that was before I knew there are multiple locations in SF. But did I ever dream they'd come into my back yard? And then, drum roll ... here they are. I waited till after soft opening, long having downloaded their app (for perks and stuff :-) plus I got a free Birthday cookie :-) We got a salad to go a few days ago, I opted to "make my own" and put everything but the kitchen sink in it, all vegan ingredients but loaded up on two kinds of dressings, caesar and toasted shallot. Love love love and then some. All spanking shining obliterating fresh. It can't get any better than this. You can pick your stuff via the app, which they got every single ingredient right, and didn't skip or mess up on anything. Or you can go there and specify, a point and click situation. So freaking food--and I am a salad aficionado, making one every single day and eating a bountiful one five to seven days a week. So no slouch, and MIXT does it right. The interior is bright and clean, inviting and the customer service is friendly and welcoming. Prices are right and the portions are massively generous, e.g. for one salad, two to three people can eat more than heartily. read more

Waited a long time for this to open. Yay another salad spot DT SM! First, the staff was exceptionally kind, engaging, and as enthusiastic as I am that this location opened at long last. Second, the salads we ordered (Sonoma and Pueblo) were sooo yummy-perfect balance of ingredients. I am excited to return to try other menu items, perhaps a sandwich and to build my own salad! There's signage on every corner that this place is opening today. We walked in excitedly, as the door was open. As soon as we walked in 2 people walked up to block our entry. A woman who worked there said they open at 10:30, meanwhile it's 10am and there were already people inside eating. Some wearing uniforms and some wearing street clothes. Who I would assume is the manager, came up to us as well. Not to greet us, but to block us from entering. Sorry we wanted to try your restaurant! We well not be returning as the customer service is severely lacking. This is NOT how you open a new restaurant. If they had been pleasant it would've been fine, but the employee and manager that interacted with us were incredibly rude. The woman that walked up to us had a look of disgust on her face. Totally uncalled for! If your little restaurant is closed, lock the door maybe? Maybe post a sign with the hours? Don't treat people like that. Yuck! read more

The Bachelor Salad is just the same I had many year before COVID hit. I used to go to the one in SF. I am glad they now open in San Mateo. The salad is so fresh and the staff make the salad in front of you just the way you want. I definitely will come often. read more
