Seriously an exceptional meal! We started off at their bar which had the most beautiful wall art and vintage decor. The bartenders were especially nice and even gave us a free sample of their horchata. As for the food, we were thoroughly impressed with the pozole as well as the potato tacos. I visited La Paloma Cafe for brunch and got the burnt end bowl and the huevos rancheros. The beef in the burnt end bowl was not bad, but the cilantro slaw was bitter for some reason, and there were too many beans and rice. I also tried the huevos rancheros which had good eggs but again, too many beans. Maybe I didn't order the right thing, but in general, I thought the food was just okay. Tried Paloma for the first tie since it was Paradise Cafe. We sat down and I immediately wanted a Paradise Burger! The best. Overall had a great experience here. Service was outstanding and the food was great. The pork shoulder was super tender and cut like butter. Ordered a side of tortillas to go with it. The Hominy dish was creamy and delicious. My grandmother used to make me bread pudding for me, so I always order when I find it. Their version was really good. Not as good as grams but hey what ya gonna do!?. This restaurant is definitely worth checking out! From the beginning the experience was amazing. We were promptly seated for our reservation and greeted! Our reservation was cancelled the previous week due to a power outage and they made up for it. They apologized and made sure the our experience was nothing short of excellent. Our waitress was very kind and attentive and brought us complimentary champagne to make up for the inconvenience of the canceled reservation. We ordered the shishito peppers, hominy casserole and glazed carrots to start off as appetizers as well as the seasonal limade(non alcoholic), made with basil and strawberry- a little too sweet though and the Oaxacan old fashioned. All were delicious the presentation for the old fashioned was beautiful as there is a rose petal placed on top of the cube and it is made with mezcal not whiskey. The shishito peppers are a must have and great to share. They have some cheese, an aioli type sauce and corn all make a great combustion of great flavors in your mouth. The hominy casserole is like a comfort dish-practically reminded me of Mac and cheese. For entree we ordered the Santa María tri-tip and carnitas along with a flight of mezcal! The tri tip was perfectly seared on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. The beans were delicious but a tad sweet. The carnitas-that pork shoulder melts in your mouth! That's how tender and perfectly cooked it is. The roasted tomatillo sauce compliments the protein and the beans perfectly together. Make sure to get tortillas for these entrees! The tortillas are delicious and are soft, handmade. The mezcal flight comes with three different selections and the waitress gave direction on how to drink them as well referred to the descriptions of each. The final part of the meal of course dessert! We ordered the chocolate tart, pot de creme and capirotada bread pudding! The por de creme has that childhood memory of the abuelita hot chocolate and is light and delicious- the flavor is just right! The chocolate torte has a different personality of its own as it has almost a spicy kick, savory to it and decadent! The bread pudding is more on the comfort side and has nuts and raisins within the mix! Our of the three I would go for the pot de creme! Overall the experience was wonderful and all employees were extremely attentive in making sure that our drinks and water were filled and the table was bussed and ensuring that our dining needs were met! What a fantastic experience we had this morning! We took a good friend to brunch here for her birthday this morning, and the entire experience was perfection. The location is super cute (they have a beautiful patio; however, we chose to sit inside because it was a little cold), the staff is super friendly and attentive, and the food is out of this world. Finally was able to give La Paloma a try for lunch last Friday. The old Paradise Café location and ambience hasn't changed - which is good! One of the most beautiful outdoor dining spots in town. I met a friend at 11:45am, and we were told they don't technically open for lunch until 12pm. We drank some waters and talked for 15 min at a table, then ordered inside at the counter and took a number for delivery of our food outside later. It was not crowded by any means; it looked like they have a small crew that gets them through lunch every day. The lunch menu is interesting and effective, containing a few salads and "brand new classics," basically ranchero(?) style chicken, beef or pork that you can have as either a burrito or a bowl - and a few other items. My friend had the tri tip burnt end bowl, and I had a chicken bowl. The pork sounded insanely good, but watchin' those lunch calories. They come with a mix of different items, including corn, cabbage, chilies, rice, cheese, etc. Our bowls were quite large and very tasty. Meats were very tender with a somewhat unique combination of flavors and very fresh ingredients. Salads are about $6 - $8 and the burrito/bowls $12 - $14. Given the unparalleled atmosphere and portions, I'd say it's worth it. Very much looking forward to trying dinner! read more

Stopped in for dinner here while on vacation. As it was around the holiday, we wanted a place to eat that would not be too crowded for the July 4th festivities. We sat outside, which was a perfect setting with privacy and lots of greenery around. Wait staff was solid despite the restaurant quickly filling up and the food and drinks came out with equally spaced time. I had the potato and zucchini tacos which were solid. My husband had the Oak Grilled Local fish which he enjoyed. As a side we ordered the chopped cabbage and cilantro slaw which was amazing! I came here on Sunday night with a large group of friends after someone recommended La Paloma in passing. She insisted it was amazing and she was right. I wish I had taken pictures of my food but I was too busy eating it! I got the carnitas with black beans and I also got the Cole slaw on the side, (which the server recommended) and it was incredible. My husband and 2 of our friends got the sea bass (that was caught that morning) and they were all impressed. Other dishes ordered by our table were the roasted chicken, Pozole and the Brussel sprouts, all were delicious! My friends also ordered a pitcher of the hibiscus margaritas and they were so happy they went with the pitcher and not just one margarita! Not too sweet- perfect! For dessert we had the Mexican chocolate tart, the flan and the bread pudding. Every single one of the desserts was heaven! The bread pudding was the star. After dinner - we couldn't stop talking about how incredible the food was. The icing on the cake was our server who was super engaging, knowledgable and attentive. The service was perfect. We do not live in the area and I am SO SAD that I can't visit La Paloma regularly but anytime I come back to Santa Barbara it will be one of our first stops. We hadn't been to this spot for years - our last time was when it was the Paradise Cafe. My husband and I walked from his office to La Paloma and had a really wonderful time. There's indoor and outdoor seating, but we opted to eat indoors in the original restaurant space. The decor was great, updated but still nicely reminiscent of the restaurant we all loved for so long. One of my favorite things is the location - off of State Street, which gets you out of the way of tourists. The restaurant feels local and the folks inside felt that way too. Our server was great - enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We both started with a cocktail - he had the classic Paloma and I had one that was a little less traditional - still good. We started with nachos - can't go wrong there! For dinner, he had the Oak Grilled Snake River Farms Wagyu Tri Tip - beautifully presented and really delicious. I opted for the Oak Grilled Sea Bass which was amazing. Weeks later and I can still remember how good this tasted. No dessert for us, but maybe next time.
