Good traditional breakfast spot. They didn't try to get too experimental with their menu items and because of this we got exactly what we were hoping for. It's super close to the ferry building on Avalon and near the water so quite nice to get the ocean smell and sounds through the open shutter doors during breakfast. Corned beef hash: Exact diner stereotype corn beef hash in a good way. It didn't have bellpeppers, avocado, or odd fusion spices, it was the classic corned beef hash that we wanted. The hashbrowns were a bit soft and not as crispy as we like it on the outside but the corned beef had an awesome crunch layer. Pancakes: With bacon and scrambled eggs on the side, kids loved it and finished it with no complaints. Biscuits and gravy: Covered in a heavy handed dose of gravy which was fine for us. The food was fair. A couple of us had eggs Florentine. It was decent. The spinach was fresh, the eggs were overcooked. The chicken and waffles was OK and the chili killers we're not done correctly at all. Firstly, the eggs on the chili Quiles were over cooked. The rest was fair. The service was awful. The waiter forgot to bring my friends eggs after she ordered them after we got our meal. We all ordered water. When they came back to the table, they brought bottles of water from Costco. When we got the bill we were each charged two dollars for the bottles of water. That's a travesty. Terrible business practice. I would never ever eat here again, and I would not recommend it to anyone who I loved, and thought highly of. The ambience is what you would expect from Catalina. It's beautiful over here. read more

I was skeptical, thought maybe it was just another Avalon tourist trap, but the food was excellent, and the service was great! From the coffee to the entree, everything was delicious. We split a Denver omelette with hash browns and the blueberry pancakes. The omelette was made with fresh veggies, generous portion, and the hash browns were fresh too (def not frozen). We have made this diner our go-to place for breakfast ever since off season in Avalon. Barely any dining people and no wait at all all the time. It's much better than long wait and super crowded during busy season! This diner is full bar so you can order any alcohol you like. Bottle of champagne to make mimosas is always the best choice for 2 or 3 people. The breakfast items are extensive, as well as other items. The portions and prices are very reasonable so it's value wise too. I like to order make- your-own omelette and gluten free pancake stack. Hubby likes sizzling steak/prime rib and eggs. We find the service here is usually fast and friendly. It does get slow when it's super busy though. This is absolutely our top choice for breakfast in Avalon! It's also very close to the dock so it's a good choice for hungry tourists that just get out off boats! read more

Food was barely edible. My husband had the pancakes and they tasted like cardboard. I had the chilaquiles and they were so bland and watery. I just ate the avocado and egg off the top. We barely touched our food. Honestly it's really sad how bad the food in Catalina is. There's only maybe 3 restaurants with food halfway decent. Oh this restaurant was a regular stop for breakfast every morning!! Lol. Everything on their menu I tried was tasty. It's the most popular breakfast/brunch spot on the island for tourist, so the wait times in the morning can be long. The longest we waited was about 45 mins. Great portion sizes and cute place for breakfast with its large glass doors that open up to the ocean front. But get here early! We came here at 8:15 and there was no wait for 2 people, but 15 minutes later we saw a huge line forming outside. We came straight from the ferry with empty stomachs and were greeted and seated immediately. It took a while to get our food but they were very busy that morning. They only serve bottled water here, as with most of the other restaurants on the island. The portion sizes were large and I saw a bunch of people ordering the chilaquiles which looked really good! Fried chicken Benedict: 4/5 fried chicken was crispy and juicy, but one of my eggs was over cooked and had a hard yolk. Hollandaise sauce was good. Chorizo omelet: 3/5 omelet is served with beans, rice, chips and tortilla. The best part of the dish was the chips and beans! The chorizo was flavorless and needed tobacco for any flavor. There are more options here than some of the other brunch spots on the island and it has a great location. Would come here again to try the chilaquiles! read more

While on a mini vacation with some friends, we stopped by for breakfast on a Thursday morning. The restaurant was not busy but, then again, neither was the island in general. We were seated promptly. As with the majority of businesses, they didn't offer free water - only bottled which is extremely annoying. To start things off we ordered two orange juices and a pineapple juice. When the waiter eventually returned we were given one orange juice with two straws and one pineapple which was somewhat bizarre, but I let it ride and just had the water I brought with me. The glasses were noticeably dirty. The food took a while to come out for being so empty. The French toast and bacon were fine, and the lox and bagel was reportedly similar. The worst part was just how long it took to get the check. We had an event to get to and I think they left us alone for 15 minutes after taking the plates before bringing out the receipt. It took another 5 to get the card back. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of options for breakfast so just be prepared for what seemed like a pattern of mediocrity on Catalina. I can't imagine this place when they're truly busy during July. read more

We went there and they quoted us a 15-20 minute wait, which was not the truth. We ended up waiting 45 minutes for a table. We had a tour shortly after breakfast so we would have chosen to eat somewhere else if they were honest about their wait times. We finally got sat and the staff were not very friendly. It took a while for them to take our order but finally did. We got our food and they didn't even bring silverware or napkins! I'm not sure how they felt like we could eat without them. I would give the Pancake Cottage 3.5 stars. On our second day on the island, my wife and I came here for breakfast. We went early and were seated right away. The place was more crowded when we left. It is located at the end of the walk from the dock before you hang a right into town. Nice and bright, with plenty of employees to tend to your needs. We both had the pancakes, sausage, and eggs. It does not come with potatoes. The buttermilk pancakes were nice and fluffy though on the thinner side. The sausage links were bigger than usual. You get maybe two eggs. The food was tasty. The service was good.my coffee was refilled in a timely way. They were quick to clear out dishes, probably to more quickly turn the table. My complaint is that you're paying $17 for a small breakfast without potatoes. I realize that things are more expensive on the island but I would have liked the addition of potatoes. read more

Busy, nicely-sized menu and conveniently by the ferry so we could order and go (we wanted to stop and eat at the outdoor seating by the waterfront but ran out of time). A section on the menu called "Benny's" is an homage to types of eggs Benedict. I chose fried chicken Benedict that added hollandaise to a poached egg and a crispy, well brined, flavorful chicken patty that rivals Popeyes - but with the butter sauce. First impression, crisp, white, airy, modern. I expected this to be one of those traditional country style breakfast places, but it's actually super nice!! Feels trendy and fun. We came for breakfast on a Saturday late-morning and there was a pretty big crowd outside so I was expecting to wait an hour or so for a table. I was so happy to find out there was immediate seating at the bar counter. We took a seat there where we had a nice big window to see the boardwalk and the water. Came here for breakfast right after arriving on the island, location is very convenient when you arrive from the ferry. It was pretty busy when we got there but we got seated fairly quick. I ordered the French toast combo and let me tell ya, I did not breath eating this meal. I scarfed it down it was so delicious. The toast was nice and fluffy, the egg was perfectly cooked the way I asked (over hard), and the bacon was juicy and savory. If you're a French toast lover, this plate won't disappoint. I'm leaving 4 stars because the service was a little slow. I understand they were busy of course, but it took them about 30 minutes just to ask for our drink order after being seated. Food took a little while to come out and we saw our server maybe twice the entirety of our stay. We had to flag a server down when we were ready to pay... Overall though, the food was so satisfying!
