I ALWAYS go Mom-n-Pop over chain, because with chains you always know what you're gonna get. In this case however, what I got was disappointing and way overpriced. Sweet potato pancakes and biscuits & gravy. Small portions. Both were bland; right out of the back of a Sysco semi-trailer, along the the cheapest syrup and margarine available. Really good food for the price. The atmosphere is somewhat of a novelty. The service is very fast and very friendly. There are very few times at a restraunt that I am smiling because of the service before my food even gets there. Should have known the experience was going to be bad when we walked in. The woman at the cash register (AKA Mother Sally) was rude to us. My wife, three kids and I were told to wait for a table even after we noticed a number of open tables. Finally, the woman from the register told us that 4 of us could sit at one table and one of us would have to sit at the counter. I told her we would prefer to sit together and she went crazy. We should have left but the kids were hungry. The food came out in two separate orders and both rounds were cold. The pancakes we had heard so much about tasted like tub and tile caulk. This is a bustling place to go to for Sunday morning brunch. The wait staff are fast and professional adults, not the apathetic acne-ridden teens working the chain places. Standard diner type food, nothing gourmet or fancy- good bacon and eggs, cream gravy, biscuits are light and fluffy. If you are worried about your cardiologist's dietary recommendations, don't come here. If you don't like seeing a Houston Livestock show trophy on the wall, don't come here. If you are so uptight that one 10 commandment plaque, buried in a decor that looks like someone nailed the entire contents of Grandma's attic on the wall, upsets you- then you should probably should not come here. read more

This place needs allot of help at the three major areas in the restaurant business: menu+food (quality and options), service/attitude, and environment. Before I go on with this post, I just want to say that I have tried this place three times in the past year, at the second and third visit, this place and its staff kept emphasizing on what I have felt at the first impression. And to be fair: in the second visit with my parents to this place, the waitress was kind, knowledgeable and respectful. The rest of the staff and especially the one on the front counter (cashier) was so horrible, she got a big attitude problem, I mean a huge hospitality problem. I am not sure if she is one of the owners(Major problem) or a staff member (still big problem), but despite who is she, definitely, that is not good for business if they are looking for business success! In short, between the food quality, service, and environment, I will not come back to this place and I am not going to recommend it either to anyone I know, period. read more
