I need to start off by saying THIS IS PLACE IS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP as of 2024, disregard old yelp reviews!!! New place is called Panchi's Restaurant!!! The change this place much needed, if you're in paramount or surrounding areas I encourage you to come try their delicious food! If you're familiar with Sinaloa style recipes then you will absolutely love it! It feels like you're eating at home. All food is always fresh, and same great taste. The menu has so many variations you can't go wrong with any! Awesome service by staff & great family style ambiance. Restaurant is currently getting a revamp but they are still open for business.

Hot Salsa is located on Garfield and Rosecrans in the City of Paramount. Next door to Arco and near many businesses. Clean and beautiful inside and out, excellent service, delicious tacos, reasonable prices. Parking can be a pain at certain times. Cost efficient place to take a date or to come eat after work. A diamond in the rough you should not overlook.

I would usually buy a burger and fries for lunch. Carne asada tacos are also good. Consistency is maybe not the strongest here though.

Once we were ready she had our table already prepared. We have to order inside first before you can be seated. Once seated our food came out not too long after. Everything looked and tasted delicious! We ordered the chilaquiles verde, short rib omelette, tropical pancakes (seasonal), and the mango curd french toast (seasonal). The chilaquiles verde was savory and tangy. It wasn't soggy at all and definitely one of my favorite dishes. The short rib omelette was savory but didn't give me any wow factor compared to the other dishes I ordered. The tropical pancakes were so pretty. I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. I wish it was a main menu item. I'll definitely be sad to see it go. They have lots of seating inside and outside.

The moment I took my first bite, I immediately noticed that the ricotta tasted sour and spoiled. I drove back to the restaurant to request a refund. Unfortunately, my refund was not honored because the manager, Aimee, was not present. Karely, the lead on duty, seemed unsure of how to handle the situation and attempted to explain that the sour taste was simply the lemon in the ricotta. That explanation was disappointing because there is a clear difference between the intended lemon flavor and the taste of spoiled dairy. What upset me most was the lack of concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. As a customer, I expected the issue to be taken seriously, especially when food safety is involved. If a manager is unavailable, staff should be properly trained and empowered to handle customer concerns appropriately. I am currently four months pregnant, which made this experience even more concerning. I wasted my time, gas, and energy driving back to the restaurant, only to leave without a refund or any resolution. This was by far the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in Downey, and unfortunately, I will not be returning.

We had a reservation for six and the hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our server, Nate, was fantastic. He knew the menu and answered all of our questions. He even explained how some of the drinks were made. Later we found out he was actually one of the bartenders helping out as a server for the night. Which made sense considering how well he knew how the drinks were made. He was attentive and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. One thing that made him stand out was, he actually conversed with us rather than just asking if we needed anything and then leaving. The Old Fashioned was one of the smoothest and best I've probably ever had. My nephew ordered the Ube Painkiller after Nate described how it was made. I had a sip, and the ube flavor really came through without overpowering the drink and it was perfectly matched with the dark rum, which Nate said came from the Caribbean. The Brussels sprouts had a nice mix of tender and crispy pieces that gave additional texture. The calamari was tender and the pesto style sauce paired real good with it. The Thai curry sea bass was flavorful, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. The cioppino had a rich shellfish flavor in the broth and I appreciated that the tomato base didn't have such an acidic taste. We also shared the tomahawk, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had a sprinkle of coarse salt that really brought out the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was excellent, but Nate's service really made our night special, making us feel right at home.

The hostess was quite sweet when we walked in. As we had our little fur baby with us, we were seated at one of the tables on the patio. It was still early and that in-between time so it was pretty quiet. A large party was set up next to us. Melinda took care of us and she was the sweetest. Happy hour was happening which we took advantage of. It was 4.00 off appetizer, 2.00 off draft wine and beer. Also, they made sure that our little pup was well taken care of as well. Food wise, an order of the poke wrap. Nice chunks of ahi with a scoop of rice, lettuce, avocado and wasabi sauce. It was good but a little messy. As it would be with all of the lettuce wraps. The steamed mussels which is a must. The broth was delicious and served with two nice thick slices of toasted bread. Decent size mussels cooked deliciously in the broth. A must try. Lastly the calamari which was tossed with jalapeños. Both deep fried and quite tasty. Nice crunch to it but not overly cooked. That was also served with two dipping sauce. Everything was delicious. Towards the end of the meal, Melinda noticed that a bug was in my wine which she was very sweet about and made sure to take care of it. The simple little gesture was greatly appreciative. The whole experience was excellent. Everyone was the sweetest and friendliest. Will definitely be back.

We got the Mexicali omelette and pancakes to share for two people and we could not finish. The Mexicali omelette had chorizo, garlic, mushroom, red onions, mozzarella cheese, jalapeños, ranchero sauce, and avocado. The ranchero sauce made a huge difference because it felt like we were eating a keto (low carb) wet burrito, using eggs as the tortilla, except it tasted way better than a wet burrito. It was very fluffy and delicious with a nice cheese pull. The omelette was humongous and can feed two hungry people. The pancakes were equally huge and should be shared. Each order came with two pancakes but they were kind enough to let us select two different flavors. We got one matcha pancake and one coffee pancake. Both had matcha/coffee sauce, whipped cream, powdered sugar, and fresh fruits on top. We thought they were yummy but the coffee was our favorite because of the pronounced coffee taste. However, if you love matcha, you would love the matcha pancake too. Highly recommended trying the Mexicali omelette and coffee pancake if you love coffee. They were so amazing. After a while it was noticeable I was irritated and she began to ask from time to time if everything was okay. It wasn't . I was annoyed . She didn't hide the fact that she clearly was giving preference to her friend's table and dismissing everyone else that was seated . Ambience wasn't too chaotic for the time we went . Not sure why it took so long to get our dishes out . Perhaps another time will makeup for our first time here but not sure I will return .
