Went here recently with a friend and had a fantastic time. We both had the carnitas, which tasted authentic and had a lot of flavor. Although the decor is certainly past its prime this did not reflect on the food or the fantastic service. The chips were great, and the margaritas so nice because they weren't all sugary and gross like a lot of places in town. Also, the bartender Donna knew all about any tequila we asked her about. Not much to say about the outside...absolutely no curb appeal. In fact, with no windows and a heavy wooden door, one might conclude they are walking into an, ummm, adult establishment. Once inside, the missing curb appeal is still, well, missing. But the food is outstanding, especially the chips--they were like crack! I could've made a meal out of the chips & salsa alone. But, as usual I ordered a pile of food but filled up on the chips thus eating very little of the main course. I guess my only real complaint is they didn't offer Horchata. The past several times we have gone here , it has been completely horrible service in the bar. Tonight was the icing on the cake. The bartender, who is very well known to locals , basically ignored us. We sat at the bar with no acknowledgement whatsoever.- No hello, no napkins, no "I'll be right with you"- nothing ! We had to ask HER for our drinks after more then 10 minutes sitting AT the bar directly in front of her where she mixes the drinks. She didn't bring us chips and salsa the entire evening. I had to go into the dining area to ask the hostess for salsa and chips and an additional salsa throughout our evening and meal. Our drinks were very sub par at best, and after more than 27 years as faithful patrons at both Pancho's and La Mex, we really have no reason to go back again to Pancho's. The food was delish ( not served to us by the bartender) , however, we didn't have utensils to eat with until after the bartender realized she forgot she actually put our food order in ! I must say eating in the dining area has always been positive and super yummy, but the bar, where we always prefer to enjoy an evening, was awful. read more

Didn't expect great Mexican food in Alaska but this was a great stop....Will go again if we are ever in Anchorage.

I have lived here for 18 years. We have one favorite Mexican place to go to and we wanted a sit down Mexican place to eat at. I yelped and found this place highly rated. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall, but the best places always do, definitely in Alaska! The strawberry lemonade was amazing, freshly made and free refills! The salsa and chips are free and great. The meals were huge and hot! The only complaint was that for the toppings for the burritos you have to pay $4 for cheese and sour cream and tomatoes. On top of the $13 you already pay for the burrito. You almost pay $20 for a burrito, that is a little extreme. The staff was super nice! I am sure we will be back! read more

First off, Everyone that grows up with good Mexican food, no matter Texas, New Mexico, Alabama, or California..They like what they like and all are different.. We grew up and live in Southern California.. With the Mexican influence, we have eaten in Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Santa Ana, Riverside and all others in between...We had Pancho's Villa tonight and it was as close to the Los Angeles Southern California Mexican food that we have had.. It is a hole in the wall, with real Mexican decor.. I had Carnitas, it was excellent. All beans, and flour tortillas... Also Chilis.....Cooked perfect and shredded cheese on the beans.. i was cross referencing mexican restaurants on uber eats when i found this place. i went with it because i'm from southern california and was craving that authentic mexican food taste and the pics looked good! the food is actually really bomb including the salsa. it's definitely more of a nice sit down restaurant style versus street tacos but everything was super flavorful. i also did appreciate the way they wrapped my food since it's delivery in the super cold! the food stayed warm and they followed all of my instructions. would definitely order from them again! btw ordered the choose three with beef taco, enchilada and chile relleno. if anything, i wish they had an order of chips and salsa!! read more

Hands Down, the Best Mexican food in Anchorage! Found this place by mistake, and have been pleased ever since. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant I've been to so far. In comparison to Gallos and La Mex, Pancho's is a lot better. Everything I've tried here is cooked to perfection and has great flavor. They don't try to short you in sauce, chips, meat or anything like how other Mexican restaurants do. The service is great and the prices are fair. I wish the parking lot was bigger but other than that, I go here first for my Mexican food cravings. read more

My family has been coming here since the 70's! I literally have been going to Pancho's since I was born, and I'm glad. The food is always great and the waitresses are friendly and attentive. The have pretty good chips and salsa, and you can't go wrong with their tacos or enchiladas. read more

Excellent service and the food is amazing. We have our fair share of authentic and non-authentic where we live in Kansas, but this was better than any of them. I would call Pancho's a mix between authentic and "American-ized" mexican food. We had pork enchiladas, beef chimichangas, and beef tacos. I would go couple times a week if I lived here! read more

The food was awesome. Delicious pork Verde and by far the best taco salad I have ever had. The Pancho's Sampler is very generous and gives you a taste of all your fried favorites. Probably the best "Mexican" restaurant in town. By no means is it authentic but for a good hot meal it's delicious. The service can be kinda hit and miss but the margaritas are always good. I recommend the combo fajitas and also their chile rellanos. read more

Chimichanga: How hard is it to make a burrito crispy and flaky? I've made them, and the crisp shell flakes away from being cut with a fork. This 'restaurant', had a leather tough shell, bland and microwaved. Never again. It was under cooked, under spiced (I got the steak chimichanga). The underneath looked grilled, not from a basket, not even browned there either. Chips were cold and sauce out of a jar. Buy ingredients at the marked and make it at home. Save your money. read more

Its our go to place for Mexican in Anchorage. The wait staff is great, and the owner is typically in the back cooking, so the food is consistent and delicious. Try to find many more restaurants in Anchorage you can say that about in this price range. read more

Best Latin and Mexican Food I have ever got close to after traveling the world and living North of the Border several years as a child, and in the military growing up. The staff is always wonderful, friendly, courteous, and genuine -- that means a lot especially when it is a family owned and operated business. I wish the owner and his family all the success in this world. And I hope they never close the doors because if they did, my family and I would be devastated. My family and I just love this establishment! It is Top Notch, Authentic, and more of a family atmosphere even though there is a separate bar. The location is not my favorite place; but this place to me has always been a hidden gem in Anchorage especially if you love genuine, authentic, and flavorful Mexican food. Do you like good Tacos or Homemade Tamales like I do? They are made here fresh authentically every day. And best part of all, they are stuffed to the gills with large high quality portion sizes, so you get more than what you pay for -- like it should be. Everything is very reasonably priced, and the staff is always super friendly -- we feel like family whenever we visit Panchos Villa. This restaurant rocks -- A class act all the way! read more

Funky little place, hardly visible from the street. I had to walk around the outside to find the hidden "front" door in the back. Pleasant ambiance, although quite dark. (I always wonder when a restaurant is dark: "What are they hiding?") I found out they had no whole beans, only refried. Come on, it's Mexican! They had a dearth of vegetarian choices, my usual favorite, so I ordered a chicken taco salad. It was ok, except the edible "bowl" hadn't even been warmed and was tough. My friend had a spinach enchilada, which he seemed to like.(I didn't ask, but he ate it all.) Apparently the drinks are this place's strong suit, but the food, ehh. read more
