Surprised I have not yet reviewed one of my favorite restaurants in lexington! Few things embody comfort food for me quite like this place... any bad mood can be cured by hot tea and hotpot! There is something for everyone here: vegetarians, meat lovers, spice lovers and those with sensitive palates will all find something here they like. My default dishes here tend to be the hot wonton soup, ma po tofu, spicy eggplant, and spicy fish... but I have never tried something here that I haven't liked. For those overwhelmed by choice... I highly recommend their weekend buffet. I typically avoid chinese buffets like the plague, but enthusiastically recommend this one. Saturday they have their general chinese buffet and Sunday they do dim sum! Both buffets are delightful, and a great chance to try dishes you might otherwise shy away from. Panda Cuisine is the OG authentic Chinese food in lex and still my favorite by far. I have a palate for spicy food and Sichuan cuisine is one of my favorites growing up. I've never eaten at their buffet. On the menu, some of my favorites are Spicy Beef & Beef Tendon (cold dish starter), Boiled Fish (fish fillet in hot chill oil on a bed of cabbage - not very spicy really), and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce (sweet and savory Chinese eggplants). Everything comes in a generous portion and reasonable price tag. I love this place. I strongly recommend the fish delight. It is simply flavorful, spicy goodness. A delight for sure. Imperial chicken is also a great option. The chicken is so tender and tasty and awesome. If you're feeling adventurous, ask for something from the "Chinese menu". It's not really a secret menu, but it includes options not on the regular menu. And if you don't mention it, it is like it doesn't exist. From that menu, I'd recommend the spicy chicken with noodles. You have the option to go with bone in or without. The bone in option is more flavorful, but it is a challenge to work with all the tiny bones in the meal. Most people who go to Panda Cuisine go it seems with the buffet. But you're making a mistake going that route. Ordering off the menu gets you a meal with so much more flavor and spice, and it tastes so much better and fresher. Trust me on this one. Buffets are for people who don't know what good food is. In that case, stay home and save the money. I've never had anything here that did not taste absolutely incredible. The chefs are culinary geniuses. We tried Panda Cuisine the first time on Thanksgiving as we heard there was a buffet and due to circumstances our plans changed suddenly. Everything was pretty fantastic so we then went again for dinner last night. Everything again was super tasty, though the prices are a bit high on some items (7.95 for cucumber salad, which contains about one cucumber worth, which is disappointing because I could eat my weight in that stuff). The pekin duck was also really really good, though a bit over-cooked. My biggest complaint is that they offered to box our leftovers and omitted two egg rolls, two crab rangoon and the duck leg/thigh. This is especially aggravating since that was specifically saved to be my daughter's lunch before work the today. Of course, since we just noticed when she went to reheat it, there's not much we can do now; but it's pretty pricy to just have been thrown away when we asked to bring it home. read more

Yum! I wish I lived closer to this restaurant! Once again, I managed to find excitement for my tired palate via Yelp. I do remember going to the old Panda Garden a few years ago. It was my first foray into the spicy Sichuan dishes and the craving was planted in my stomach ever since. Although the Yelp reviews do not seem all that positive, but since the same chef is cooking again, I was sure this would not be a wasted drive. I was right! I went for their dimsum/Sichuan buffet on Sunday. Imagine my excitement when I saw various dimsum offerings as well as Sichuan dishes one can only find on Chinese menus...all on the buffet!! I tried my best to try each item. My favorites: xiao long bao (soup filled dumplings), salt and pepper shrimp (large and in a constantly refilled large pile), roasted duck, garlic eggplant, pig ears slices, spicy fried fish...and this sweet dessert soup with rice balls?? The good stuff is getting lost in translation...you just have to come and try it! The next time, I will be here for their Saturday lunch buffet which consists of only Sichuan dishes. I'm sure I will find more unusual things on that buffet. For about $15, I will be able to try so many dishes I am not familiar with. LESSON LEARNED!! We tried this place as a recommendation from a local. Our experience was not a positive one. The staff were cordial, but there were some significant language and communication hurdles. The menu was written in both English and Chinese, but most of the prices were only displayed in Chinese. A few items were identified with a cost in English. When ordering, my wife asked if a particular dish was made with chicken breast. The server indicated he didn't know. Finally, we asked if he would ask the kitchen. He came back and indicated that the item would be prepared with breast only if requested. I asked the waiter to identify a couple of the most popular items. He named some items that would have been new to me, but he assured me that they were authentic and very tasty, so I took his advice and selected on of the dishes. A couple minutes later he returned to the table and indicated that the chicken in the dish is traditionally served on the bone and wanted to be sure I was okay with that. I said I would still try it and the bones would be fine. Oh my, what a mistake!! Y'all, when this chicken dish came out, it was unrecognizable as chicken-at least what we are accustomed to in the US. My wife looked at it and said, "what did you order, chicken knuckles!?"The chicken had been cut into small, bite size chunks, bone and all! I didn't recognize one chicken part, and every single bite had shards of sharp, pointy bone where it had been cut. This was NOT the vision that came to mind when the waiter asked me if I would be okay with chicken on the bone!! The sauce on the dish had a good flavor, but every time I tried to eat the meat, I had to spit it out. I had to push the dish aside. My wife did not like the taste of her food, but at least the chicken was edible and recognizable, so I ate her dish. The waiter did not return to the table but another server did come to refill our glasses and ask if the food was good. I stated that I had ordered something that I didn't like. She smiled and walked away. So either she did not understand my comment or she ignored it. I choose to believe that she did not understand. Then the bill came!!! Y'all, that "chicken knuckle"dish that I could not eat, cost over $20. Then I really felt sick! Yes, the waiter tried to tell me in advance, which I really appreciate, but his description and what I was picturing (a whole leg and a thigh), were far from aligning. I will give them an A for what I have to assume was authenticity. I would not return without asking lots of questions, like how things are prepared, and the cost of items. read more

This is my absolute favorite Asian restaurant in Lexington. You want to know when you've found a great Asian restaurant? Look around, it's 70% Asian people eating there. Nobody orders General Tso's here (although, hilariously enough, it's on their buffet and most people ignore it). This is definitely one of the most authentic Asian restaurants in Kentucky. They seem to specialize in Northern China's spicy food, but they have a really large menu. I'm not sure how often they have the buffet, maybe once or twice a month for dinner, and I read somewhere that they have a buffet on the weekend. This is not your typical Chinese buffet. I had always thought this place was a little carry-out style Chinese restaurant near Trader Joes, boy was I wrong. It's actually really big and nice inside. The outside looks are deceiving. My boyfriend and I were a few of the only non-Asian background folks dining there. Which makes me think this is real authentic food. It was tasty and different. You have to be an adventurous eater to try everything on the buffet. They did have a few ordinary things like fried chicken chunks with the red dipping sauce, egg rolls, hot and sour soup, pot stickers, etc. But the majority of the buffet was interesting things I've never eaten before. Tongue, beef intestine, gizzards, pork ears, pork feet, chicken feet (ewwww!), you name it. I tried almost everything so it was quite interesting for me because I love trying different foods. The staff was also very friendly. They came over often to fill up our water and were very polite. I definitely recommend the buffet if this is your first time trying this restaurant. We were out for dinner and stumbled across this restaurant. The server was a sweet girl from OK. Very knowledgeable. I had the cashew chicken and rice. Very good. My husband had a chicken dish with chili peppers, he said it was good but not enough chicken and too many chili peppers. He also ordered the hot and sour lettuce but said it was more sour than hot. This place is amazing. We will drive up from Louisville as we do not have a quality Schezuan place here. Their weekend dim sum and authentic Chinese buffet is amazing. How many buffets can you go to that have "real dim sum" and pig ears readily available. My favorite dish is the Schezuan beef and tendon dish which is oh so very spicy and has a reasonable amount of tendon. Their Hot Pot stewed beef, beef tendon and beef brisket dish is also delicious and a great serving. As is their Pork Intestine hot pot. Are you starting to see a theme? We love the odd cuts of meat, especially if they are chewy. The spice may set your stomach on fire the next day, lol but it's so well worth it. I called ahead to make sure they had Dim Sum on Sunday. The person answering said yes, on the buffet. I got there and there were not many patrons, and the Dim Sum was virtually empty. They have a Saturday buffet and the number of dishes is so many. You will have a feast if you are a non-Vegetarian. Also remember that you have a 10% discount if you pay the bill in cash. I spent two weeks in China- specifically Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an. This restaurant is THE most authentic Chinese restaurant in Lex, possibly in KY. This means that they serve some very unusual items on their menu that most Americans won't want to try, however, they also have your old American standards. Can you imagine my surprise in China when I found out they had never heard of fortune cookies?! Cray cray, but true! This restaurant runs along those same lines. Every restaurant in China has a giant lazy Susan on the table and the dishes are placed on there so that guests can spin around to share and taste different things. Panda Cuisine = same. Here's the thing - ethnic food shouldn't have to be "authentic" to be good. And the customer shouldn't be blamed for "ordering the wrong thing." If a restaurant puts items on a menu (ie, Americanized Chinese food), then they should prepare it well. American Chinese food is still food - if prepared well, it can be absolutely delicious. I have had amazing American Chinese food (not in Lexington) from several restaurants. So no one gets a pass for charging people for crappy food on the basis that the customer should have known not to order it. In terms of their "authentic" Chinese food, it's hit or miss. Their shrimp and winter mushroom fried rice is absolutely delicious - exactly what fried rice should be. The garlic eggplant is also great and melts in your mouth. I was disappointed by the Chengdu Chicken that other reviewers raved about. The dish I got was terrible - it tasted like some sort of chemical. We ended up throwing it away (and my husband will eat almost anything). The Panda Beef Delight was just okay, but I wouldn't order it again. And let my experience be a lesson - don't ever order delivery from here. I ordered a combination lo mein and instead, they sent us a combination fried rice (even though I had already ordered a fried rice). And this fried rice was nothing like the previous dish I mentioned - this one was not good. It was clearly prepared differently and the beef in it was so bad that it was inedible. I really wanted to like this place, but after a couple tries, I think I am giving up. A lack of good Chinese food in town doesn't make this place better. I will get my Chinese food from a place that cares about giving their customers great food. read more

Was here on a Friday for lunch, it was surprisingly empty but for a couple other tables with people. Panda Cuisine has been on my bookmark list for long but I finally got a chance to try it when I had an appointment at LasikPlus nearby. The ambience was a nice surprise, mildly lit and warm. The lady took our orders right away. The Chicken Lo Mein was everything I hoped for - yummy and greasy. My husband got the General Tso's chicken with fried rice. The chicken was okay but the fried rice lacked any flavor what so ever. Since they were lunch specials, both our orders came with a veg egg roll each. The filling was just cabbage and it was dripping in oil. (I know that's how egg rolls are supposed to be). So, four stars for prompt service, good Lo Mein and good ambience. read more

This is by far, one of my favorite restaurant in lexington. The "red hot" wanton soup is very spicy and so tasty. The garlic green beans are another favorite as is the chengdu chicken. The chengdu chicken is a cold plate of sliced chicken in a red chili oil sauce topped with garlic. I will order that and a side of rice and be plenty full. But don't stop there. There are so many amazing items on the menu to choose from. The weekends (and some holidays) will have a buffet and have so many different choices, many things not seen on a standard Chinese style buffet. Panda Cuisine has the best Sichuan dishes we've had outside of China. I'm totally not exaggerating. We moved to Lexington last month and were thrilled to find that what we had heard about Panda Cuisine is absolutely true: They have amazing, authentic Chinese food! For our first visit, we ordered 干锅娃娃菜， 干煸四季豆， and 口水鸡。 (Mandarin green beans - extra spicy with hua jiao added, Napa in a fire pot - also extra spicy, and Chengdu chicken). Mandarin Green Beans are stir fried in a super hot wok so that they get all nice and wrinkly/crisp and absorb the flavor of the garlic, chilies and hua jiao (if you request this extra spice). The beans are completely addictive, and we ALWAYS order them for visiting Americans when we are in China (assuming they like spice). Everyone loves them. Napa in a Fire Pot is my go to dish in the cafeteria on our university campus in Beijing. (Yes - in China, university cafeterias serve food that you carry on a tray with its own little fire.) The dish is a mixture of veggies with Napa cabbage taking the most important role in a spicy, garlicy, oily broth. In China there would be copious amounts of pork fat involved, but Panda Cuisine's vegetarian version hits the spot. Planning ahead to my January birthday, I think I'll be ordering this. We decided to order the Chengdu Chicken cold appetizer just so we would have some meat to go with all of those veggies. This dish was also excellent and tasted just like it would in Beijing. My favorite part was the cucumber slices that were tucked under the chicken. (Cucumber is surprisingly common in China in places Americans tend to consider unusual.) I found this on YELP as i was throbbing from a hangover and needed some Asian lovin in my tummy... I wanted some Hot and Sour Soup and thankfully; they had it... It was pretty good too.
