I enjoy Panda Express. I say that knowing full well this is not *real* chinese food. I love the beijing beef, chicken and mushrooms, chicken with green beans, and and the spicy eggplant with tofu. I love that there are so many veggie options. I also love the orange chicken and the steamed fish. I am not, however, a fan of their egg rolls or spring rolls, which I find to be soggy and mushy. One of the things I really like about Panda Express is that you can choose not to have a starch. I can't think of another place that offers you steamed veggies instead of fried rice, chow fun or chow mein noodles. Having the steamed veggies substitute costs extra but its worth it. It simply costs more to eat healthier. Recently, I have discovered their milk tea bar. Danger Danger Will Robinson! While I love dairy, dairy doesn't love me so I especially appreciate that they have some almond milk teas. My favorite teas right now are the almond milk green tea, and the almond milk oolong. I didn't care for the Thai Tea - it had a strange taste to me. I love that they put in a complimentary fortune cookie! I always look forward to the reward at the end of the meal. I've heard that the Panda Express in general is usually not remotely close to authentically Chinese fare, but that doesn't stop the millions of people who want their Chinese food fix. Daily addicts to Chinese food cuisine can have it all here at the Panda Express, but without the fuss of actual dining with menus in a legit Chinese restaurant on any given day. All the classic favorites are made here and there must be yours here included in the mix. For what it's worth, Panda Express is basically where you just need food of Chinese origin and that's basically it. I've grown up Chinese and thought Panda's is decently good, but can be very price sensitive, if you aren't careful. Many of the panda expresses I've been to are found in airports, but this time around, this one happens to be near where I've been working for the last 7 years, but this Panda Express has been around for less than 5 years. For what it's worth, the overall experience here at times can be loud and annoying, as far as the atmosphere goes. The buffet line concept is how it goes here. Pick and choose your menu options and pay for it. Get in and get out, if you are taking out or if you are dining in, there is plenty of tables and spaces to hang out and relax while eating. Regardless of why you come here, just have fun with it and indulge yourself with Panda Express. This Panda Express location is located within the Kamehameha Shopping Center in the heart of Kalihi. It's next door to the Subway and Starbucks. You can't really miss it. They accept major credit cards, which is always a plus, but the main thing you ought to do is to not come here when there's a longer than expected wait. You'd want to just get in and out as fast as you can. Like a bank or the supermarket, if you can help it. If you are like me, public transit routes 1L, 2, and 2L come through the area on North School Street and stops in front of the shopping center. If you are like most folks out there with a car, there's plenty of parking space, underneath and upstairs in the parking garage, as well as parking in front of McDonald's, depending where you are shopping. Still, Panda's can be a good place to chow down all things Chinese, but in Honolulu, there's often a better choice, but Panda's is a good quick fix when you don't want to deal with the time commitments of a full scale dining experience. Yet, panda's express is kind of pricey for what they offer. Be expected to pay upwards of $8 to 10+ per plate, depending on how much entrees you decide on getting. The restaurant itself is rather clean and very stylish. Yep, the redesign of the interior itself is quite appealing, especially when you are dealing with a fast food restaurant. Usually, I rarely come here, but when I found out that I had failed to file a review for this place, I had to return again, grab lunch, and file one. I thought I did already, but what can you do when yelp says you didn't. My experiences here at Panda Express can be described as above average. While the service is generally okay good, I do like the fact that the line can go really fast, depending on how much people are there at any point of time. I guess that's how they are - trying to move a lot of product in a short amount of time, like a buffet line. Sometimes, the service can be robotic and not much better interaction between the customer and staff, but that's okay. We are there to get food and leave. Time is always precious these days. One of my favorites here at Panda Express is the beef broccoli and the orange chicken is always hot. Sometimes they would have a vegetable stir fry of some sort mixed with beef or chicken. I do like the chao mein noodles here, but most of the time, I hit up the fried rice, just because. It's always good to try new entrees here, although I try to stick to past favorites and often times, the walnut shrimp is a reward for a mid week treat. This Panda Express is quite possibly the most beautiful restaurant in all of Kalihi. Which could be interpreted as calling it "the cream of the crap", but it is quite nice. It's all clean and high-ceilinged. And has words etched into the wood. The workers are usually friendly, the servings are usually generous, and there is a lot of seating. There is also a tea bar if you're into that and a restroom if you're into that. I'm not into tea but I am definitely into restrooms. My children love orange chicken. Who doesn't love orange chicken? It is practically an official food of Hawaii. I have, however, recently replaced their precious orange chicken with the teri chicken breast as it makes me feel like less of a mothering failure. I am now going to admit that I am a recovering Chinese Spare-Rib-a-holic. I had a brief but intense affair with those little costly things that taste nothing of char siu but of everything I need. I could feel them beckoning to me daily from two blocks away. I would buy them while my husband was at work and attempt to hide the evidence but alas, I was found out and cruelly cut off. Mostly because of the fortune I was spending on Chinese fast food. Anyhow. Once I complete the twelve-step program I will return. FINALLY, a Panda's Express in Kalihi! Having the fact that I work in the shopping center, I was filled with excitement when we got the news that they were opening up a Panda's here! The first time I went in, I was quite surprised seeing how big the place was, and seeing what they did with it, knowing the fact that it used to be Jeans Warehouse and it was SO small in there! My first thoughts were, 'Wow...Kalihi steppin' up!' hahaha. Being a new store that just opened up, there are times where the line is out the door so avoid going during lunch, after school and dinner time. They serve the same things like any other Panda's but what's different is that they have a TEA BAR! Suuuuper exciting! The only downfall is the fact that not all employees are trained to do the tea bar, so there are times where you have to wait fro your order cause they have to call someone who does. There's an older asian lady who does the tea bar who's the sweetest thing. Everytime she's working and I order something from their tea bar, she always has me taste it to make sure I like it..which I appreciate her doing! Even during their down time, the wait still could be awhile cause there's so many of them packing the food but just one person running the register. The workers here are nice, and some of them give generous portions which I enjoy! read more

As long as you don't come in here expecting Chinese food, then you can enjoy what they're serving up. Seriously, the most Chinese thing in every Panda location is one of the workers. Every once in a while I'll get an urge to eat orange chicken, and despite being further away from home than the King St. location this is the one I'll go to. The workers seem to give a little more food than the other locations, there's ample parking, and they often end up cooking food to order which is worth the extra one or two minute wait. This location also has a tea bar. The milk tea is pretty good here, and they have a fairly good selection including honeydew and winter melon. read more

Remarkable customer service! Well... Literally. The Girl(didn't get her name, probably thot or whatever)working in the front on Sunday 12/27/15 around noon was utterly disgusting. Made side remarks with a coworker about how my mother and I was ordering. Mind you, we were the only ones in line and we just pointed at the choices we wanted rather than saying the whole entre name. I've done it at the ala Moana, King St. and Nimitz location with no problem, how can the culture of this location be so different? When my mother pointed at the selection she wanted, this girl said "which one? I can't see which one you're pointing at?" Not once not twice but three times! Cmon I'm sure everyone does it but if you have enough customer service skill, your approach should be to name the entrée in that vicinity we're pointing at to confirm. And then she proceeded to speak with a coworker and make side remarks about our ordering method. To which I look and glared and almost made a scene. But her remarks only went that far before my boiling point. Luckily my mother didn't realize the situation and was having a great day hanging out with his favorite son. My suggestion to this great injustice is that this disgusting girl needs to be retrained to respect customers and most especially elders. Perhaps management needs to put her in the back as to not tarnish Panda Express's image and reduce stock value or make her clean the bathroom to match her personality. But the food was delicious! You know what's sad? I like this Panda's Express because they're very clean, and they have the Panda Tea bar. I witnessed the most rudest thing today with their workers. The girl who started our orders got my plate ready, and right after us 5-6 people came in. So she told her other coworker to help do the options, so my boyfriend's plate was waiting on the 2nd girl. We stood around waiting for the 2nd girl. So the first girl who is now backlogged goes over and handles the plates with choices. Oy ve. Then the cashier just stands there and gives my boyfriend the evil-eye, like he just killed someone. I just... How do I write this... There food is decent and the look of the place is really nice. There drinks..... Depending on what you grab is inedible (I think I can use that word for a drink) I grabbed a matcha iced tea and I cant drink it, for the reason being it's like wet powder (which it is). This review is entirely about the food at this restaurant. I came here expecting the same food I've had at other Panda restaurants. My past experiences have been good. Not great but good. This one managed to disappointment me entirely. I came in the evening and much of the selections were gone. So I felt I was put on the spot when the clerk asked me what my selections were before I could even get around to seeing the selections. I was in line so I couldn't just jump ahead and see what limited selections they had and to make matters worse the vantage point did not allow one to actually see the food except for tithe ones immediately in front. I guess you're supposed to go to the other side and look and then go in line. That's not how it works in most places I've gone to. I ordered the orange chicken and beef broccoli. The starch I chose was the chow mein. The chicken was not good at all. I've had way better at Chun Wah Kam. At least theirs was tangy and sweet. Panda's was just not good at all. I've had the frozen variety from Costco that was way better than this. The beef broccoli was not good either. The beef tasted off. It didn't have the texture when you go to an authentic Chinese restaurant. It also didn't taste like the beef in homemade beef broccoli so it missed on both ends of the spectrum. It was downright the worst beef broccoli I've ever had. The chow mein was not very good either. It was devoid of fresh vibrant flavor. There were no deep greens or even much meat in it. I know it's just starch but this chow mein is the below average variety. I've had better from lunch wagons! The restaurant does look nice with its modern decor and TV monitors to enjoy shows in text silent mode. I think o saw like two or three monitors. Really nice. But it feels cramped and the not so relaxing with all tables being in tight quarters. There is an outdoor table but that overlooks a parking structure. I guess it is better than no outdoor option for those who are claustrophobic. I hate to give a negative review as this business is owned and manned by fellow local folks. But I have to be honest in my review or otherwise I have no business writing one. Obviously a lot was spent on the decor and not enough was spent on acquiring a good Chinese cuisine chef. If it was a chef that made this food, I highly question his skills. I understand that it could simply be food prepared by a cook with limited experience in the art of Chinese cooking. This review is for take out: I did two different days of take out because I was press for time! I like the decor and the ambience! I usually order my favorite entree.. But as soon I paid for my meal, I notice the Tea Menu. I of course made a vow to go back. So this part is for the Milk Tea order. I ordered my tea. And it was on point. I notice one of the barista was making drinks for an employees who was on break.. I ask what was the drinks called and he told me what it was.. Which is not on the menu.. SCORE. Customer service for both days: took a little long.. But friendly. Pros: partial open kitchen, restroom. TV. Seating outside. Cons: need more seats. It gets really busy in the afternoon. Take into consideration that there are several public and private schools in the area, and it's in a mini shopping plaza. Will I go back?!??!! Of course!! Realistically, nothing special in terms of cuisine. Fast-food with a Chinese theme (definitely NOT Chinese fast-food, note the difference). They're still relatively new as of this post, so the employees are still learning the computer system and the menu. They're very generous with samples, so you don't have to worry about any surprises if you're not feeling adventurous ... Then again, you did come to a Panda Express, so how adventurous can you be? The highlight of this Panda is the tea bar. They're very trendy now, and they have several customizable options and combinations. The menu lets you pick a tea base (milk, fruit, etc) add-ons (tapioca, jellies, etc) and sweetness. However, they often don't have many flavors or toppings. I don't think it's because they've run out because they sometimes don't have the ingredients upon opening. Yelp 365 Challenge 2015 #21/365 Funny story about this review: Last night, I was writing it on my phone, on a plane, in airplane mode, and instinctively tried to save it, knowing that I couldn't post it on the plane, but because it was in airplane mode, it was just deleted altogether... So now I'm rewriting it from scratch! I've always had a soft spot for Panda's. It's tasty Chinese food and ready right when you want it. I do also enjoy the fact that they include a free fortune cookie with every plate! I was glad to hear that Panda's was opening a new location in Kamehameha Shopping Center, even though I don't work for the Longs there anymore. When Rachel and I decided to get lunch, I was able to finally get my Panda's fix. Walking in, I was impressed by the decor and modernization of this Panda's location. I remember a long time ago when Panda's was old fashioned, and unattractive to me, but it isn't the same these days. The worker greeted me, and didn't rush me while I was trying to make my decision, which was a bit of a refresher. Throughout the whole process, the two girls that helped me were polite, knowledgeable, and provided good service. My plate consisted of half mixed veggies & chow fun, with Beijing beef (my favorite!) & orange chicken. As per usual with food from Panda Express, it was great. Nothing to really complain about, as although the meats were covered in sauce, they were still very, very tasty. I also noticed that Panda's has started making specialty drinks, such as milk tea and lava flows (non-alcoholic), which is an interesting and smart move in my opinion. Maybe next time I'll try one of those. All in all, if you're looking for a quick, chinese fast-food lunch, then you can't really go wrong with Panda Express. read more

This rating only pertains to my current visit. BIGGEST Pet Peeve: Restaurants that start cleaning before they close If you close at 9PM then the cleaning shouldn't start till 9PM. I understand for last calls in the kitchen... Wiping down tables... Restocking utensils... however, when you start mopping and closing down an entire section an hour + before the stated closing time, that's just poor service. Also is it possible that there is barely food around by 8:15PM. Orders available starch and Orange Chicken.... BTW I got here around 7:45PM... Waited for them to cook up some grilled teri chicken (which the customer before already request)... left an hour or so later. I like panda's because its quick and it satisfies me when I'm craving it. This Panda Express is one of my favorites. I come here with my mom or friends almost every week. I never get tired of eating here because they are inexpensive and has so many choices for us to pick from. The tea bar here is really good. I recommend the panda black milk tea or the creme brûlée's milk tea. Every should atleast order the orange chicken. It is the best thing ever. read more

I was here on a Sunday evening it was quite crowded and there was a line standing outside of the restaurant itself! Love the environment, the decor and all make me feel happy just being there. The good was okay, it was a bit disorganized when you actually look at who's behind the counter... and I mean it based on the experiences I had from eating at panda, the cashier was also the person who served the starch, the person who made the teas was helping with my choices, and the person behind me went ahead and paid first even though I know exactly what I want. When a store is new, that usually seems to happen, but I hope after a while the employees would get used to it and know their role when second customers so they don't skip one or two people. There's a tea bar, which serves bobba (tapioca) tea, I was a bit disappointed as milk tea didn't taste like tea or milk but I can taste a heavy honey-like taste which I belive was used as a sweetener for the tea, I think I'm safe to say that that's not how milk teas are made, as I am from China myself, and am familiar with the field. Overall my experience was good. Would I return? Yes, definitely, and I hope to see some big improvements! read more

I was very very disappointed at Panda on 5/8/18. I ordered a steak and shrimp bowl tonight and couldn't believe how little they gave. The bowls are normally $7 something but because it was the special steak and shrImp. I payed an additional $1.50 which = $10. So much rice and sooooooo little steak and shrimp. My wife and I were coming in seeking to satisfy a week long crave for some good orange chicken. My wife got the last of the orange chicken batch with her meal, and they told me it would be a few minutes for the new batch to come out. When we sat down to eat, both my wife and I noticed that my chicken was extremely dry of the usual "orange" sauce. After comparing with my wife's, I spoke to the lady behind the counter letting her know that there was not enough sauce in the batch.. And asked if I could get some more for my meal. She said that I would have to buy the whole bottle of sauce. After receiving absolutely no apologies or no help, I bought some more sauce.. And it didn't taste nearly as well. Smh Panda. Smh. Floor awareness is an issue. What I mean by that is there have been numerous times where I have been there, when there is no customers and they are out of a particular item. By me asking for "teriyaki chicken" the workers notice their is no more and ask the cooks to start making it. Shouldn't the workers notice that a food item is getting low and for the cooks start making more? Maybe it's their policy to wait till food runs out before making more and I'm out of line. read more

This is a tea bar only review, but I'm guessing the food is great here as well because its a Panda Express. The milk tea is...surprisingly good. I only got to try the Panda Milk Tea, but it is above par compared to a lot of milk tea places. I've tried a good amount of milk tea places in Hawaii and California, there are definitely places that Panda Express beats (not saying everyone). But for what it is, its great milk tea and better than what you might expect from a fast food chain. read more

The worst customer service! I walked in there were two girls at the counter I only got one name Kyle Chloener. I stood in front only to have the other server stare at me. She didn't smile she was leaning on the counter next to the food so I wasn't sure if she was going to be helping me. After the long stare down I took the initiative to ask for 2 plates because it probably would have broke her pride to ask me with a smile if I needed help or if I was ready to order. Apparently she could only grab one at a time. She asked me several times what I wanted and several times I told her what I wanted. Right after she puts my two plates by the register. Kyle was just standing there. As soon as I walked up she walked away and grabbed a rag only to fiddle with it while I was standing there waiting. Again, no smile absolutely no customer service. This would not be the first time with the rude attitudes. Word to the wise not worth the frustration, time or money. I will not go back! Management needs to really do an evaluation on their employees send them for customer service training because their attitudes will hurt the business if it hasn't already. read more

Probably one of the cooler panda expresses I've been to. I didnt get their food but I tried their "Panda Tea Bar" which had a bunch of boba, tea jelly, freezes, smoothies, teas etc. I ordered their matcha green tea freeze and the employee brought it to my table where I sat to wait. Seconds after I received my drink, another employee that helped make the drink came up to me to ask me to make sure it's sweet enough. When I didn't respond, he immediately said he'll be right back and got to making me another one without me asking or implying. That's awesome service for Panda Express I'd say. read more

Had to try the new tea bar at Panda Express. Ordered a regular passion fruit tea with small boba and 25% sweetness. Tea was refreshing as the weather is so hot as of late. I like my drinks less sweet and I prefer Kungfu Tea's passion fruit tea. But service was good here; atmosphere is clean and modern. Will be back again to try their almond milk tea. read more

First off, I was pretty damn excited to have another choice to eat at Kam. Most of my visits here were decent. Recently, I've ran into a situation where we showed up 15-20 minutes before closing just to grab and go. Yes, I know its pretty frustrating when people show up last minute but two plates, two choices, I would say doesn't take too much of their time right? All three times so far we ended up leaving, simply because the staff avoided us. Yeah. Keep in my mind there was no line or crowd, yet it still happened. This isn't a huge complaint, just a little tap on the chin for management to read and maybe address it. I mean....there's always a plan B but it's ALWAYS BETTER for them if they're plan A. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times and feel that the food is inconsistent. Came in today around 11:30 and a lot of the menu items were gone including some of what I think are the main items (chow mein and orange chicken). I waited about 5 minutes for the rest of the food to be cooked before i was handed my plate. When I got back home to enjoy my lunch I found that the chow mein and rice lacked a lot of flavor, not sure if they missed a few ingredients or what but the food seemed rushed. My faith in this chain is rapidly decreasing as I used to really enjoy their food, now it seems to be a hit or miss. read more
