Growing up in a traditional Chinese family (my mom was 1st generation from China), our homemade breakfasts consisted of Chinese noodle soup with char siu, choy sum, and sometimes soup-type won tons with varying degrees. Meals sometimes included egg rolls, and special occasions included e-mein, chow mein, or specially-made noodles with veggies, meats, and seafood; and fried won tons. The one thing requirement that my mom had for these starches is that they be freshly made. And as we lived in Pauoa Valley, she would visit nearby Young's Noodle Factory on Liliha Street for her regular purchases weekly. Young's Noodle Factory was originally on Smith St in Chinatown and moved to its current location on Liliha St in the late 1990's. It's a long-standing local business known for its fresh, handmade noodles and dumpling wrappers wholesaling to local restaurants, supporting local chefs, as well as retailing to local home cooks. Its noodles include chow mein, saimin, hoon tiu mein, egg chow mein, and e-mein. Wrappers for dumplings include won ton, gau gee, siu mai, mandu, and egg roll. As I learned to make fried/soup won tons and chow mein dishes from my mom, I continue to purchase the same noodles and wrappers from Young's Noodle Factory today. Yes, old school, and as if nothing has moved forward over time. Depending on what is made, you can watch workers hand-cut the noodles using a metal measuring plate. Sometimes you can't help notice how wrappers might be cut a little crooked, but that's okay. No high-tech machines to make processes more efficient. Prices are very reasonable for noodles and wrappers. Try and do the math once, and you will be amazed at what the Chinese restaurants are capable of charging you for won tons and noodle dishes. Staff is usually friendly and accommodating. But during holiday periods when the demand for these wrappers and noodles is high, they may be curt in customer service due to pressures on hand to have them available. Once I assumed they would have my won ton wrappers, they were sold out. I had to try the wrappers from another business and was not satisfied with the result. So now, I always call beforehand to ensure that they have sufficient inventory when I need them. Much of the interior space is dedicated for making noodles and wrappers. As soon as you walk in, you may see staff wrapping saimin noodles or won ton/siu mai wrappers with wax paper to be placed in the giant steel refrigerator. There is simply one order counter for local residents, whereas there are cases of noodles/wrappers ordered by restaurants taking up a lot of space. Yes, no ambiance, just factory working space. Interior cleaning is done daily, but during holiday periods, much of the interior is covered with flour to keep humidity out of the starches. I appreciate the large amount of flour used to separate my won ton pi wrappers so that they don't stick together during high humidity days. Hours of operation are Mon, Wed, Fri 6a to 12n; Tues, Thurs Sat 6a to 2p; Sun closed. I can never remember this schedule and must consult prior to purchase. As noted previously, I always call beforehand to ensure they have what I want. Other than a lone metered street parking space fronting its business, there is no parking available. It is easier to have two people in the car, the driver waiting, while the other runs in for your purchase. Note that there may be a company van sitting near the front entrance, with cases of noodles/wrappers being loaded on for delivery to wholesalers. While I certainly don't eat a Chinese noodle soup dish daily like my mother did, but I do occasionally have them, together with soup-type won tons or fried won tons. I'm glad that Young's Noodle Factory is still around so that these dishes continue to be precious memories and nostalgia for so many years! Gotta love the freshly made doughy goodies that I truly love, and Young's Noodle Factory is one of a couple places that I do love to frequent as this Liliha location is the easiest outside of Chinatown though parking is the biggest challenge. It's only street metered parking but many are always taken and other are a block or more away when available. All things noodles and more you can find chow mien, saimein, won ton pe, mandoo pe and more though these are the items I usually purchase and you can see it all being made which is a cool vibe to see and the prices are just so affordable it's an easy way to make any meal cheap and your own way. The service here is the basic personable staff who's expresses they're busy and that you're taking that you're interrupting their work flow but are fast and efficient with getting your noodle fix. Growing up Chinatown, I recall Young's Noodle Factory (YNF) was located on Smith Street where Little Village Noodle House currently is. YNF had see-through glass windows where you could see many staff semi-coated with flour and flour here and there. Every so often our family would patronize YNF for their egg noodles and dumpling wrappers. In the late 90's/early 2000's, YNF relocated to its current location on Liliha Street, just a few stores up from McDonald's. YNF is generally wholesale but also is available for retail. Their offerings is very simple - - several types of noodles (saimin, chow mein, e-mein) and dumpling wrappers (won ton, gau gee, pork hash/siu mai, deep fried, mandoo and lumpia). I've been here just a couple of times, but my recent visit had me looking for saimin noodles for my part-time job. It's winter in the islands and our saimin sales spiked where we needed more noodles. I was tasked to go to our regular supplier only to realize they are closed on Tuesdays. As a back-up, YNF popped in my mind, so I called them prior to driving over. Luckily, YNF was still open, so I made my way here and scored the metered parking stall just in front of their store. When I arrived, I only saw one staff and opted to speak in Cantonese to avoid any misunderstanding. I asked if I could see the product prior to purchase. Their noodles resembled what we use so I picked up 3 cases as instructed. I asked for a receipt to be reimbursed and my transaction was quick. I took the noodles to work, and it passed the test. In hindsight, I believe I got their regular saimin noodles when I should have gotten their egg saimin noodles. I did the comparison, and it lacked the yellow color. Regardless, the noodles passed the taste test. Overall, a pleasant experience at YNF, but then again, during each visit I spoke in Cantonese, so my transactions were flawless and efficient. If you even need to get fresh noodles and/or dumpling wrappers, YNF is a great option as it's conveniently located in town and the prices are reasonable. Furthermore, buying from the factory = fresh products that are made regularly. Shopping at the supermarkets may be convenient but we don't know how long the product has been sitting, as well as when were they made. read more

Young's Noodle Factory has been in my neighborhood for as long as I can remember. They're mostly a noodle factory but they sell to the public. You can't get saimin, e-mein, wonton, gyoza, eggroll wrappers, etc. any fresher and probably any cheaper! My old school foodie friends prefer their saimin to the big local brand that you can get in the grocery store. I grew up on their e-mein...and for some of that time, I had to hand-carry it to the Mainland, special order! There are only a couple of parking spots, but you can always find street parking. Walk in the door, look at the sign on the wall to decide what you want, and place your order. Right on the other side of the counter, workers are wrapping the products! FYI: They are currently only open 6a to 12p, Monday to Saturday. And it's cash only. If they're doing ok on such short hours, more power to them. My only thing is that I don't know the differences between all of the various noodles types so it would be nice to have some samples out or maybe pictures up. I came here to buy Hong Kong style won ton wrappers and pot sticker wrappers because they are open during quarantine. Their hours of operation are 6am - 12pm daily. It was posted on a sheet a paper on the wall; it might be temporary hours since they still supply local restaurants with their products. I called before coming so I knew my 2 items would be available. There was no parking available in front of the shop so I pulled over on the side of Liliha Street and kept my hazard lights on. I walked into the shop with $5 cash in my hand and asked the lady for my 2 items; I got $.60 in change back. I was in and out of the shop in a minute. Young's Noodle Factory is just one of three comparable noodle factories in town, the others are Yat Tung Chow and Oahu Noodle Factories. All three offer the same items and even offers a boss lady with similar poor, unfriendly demeanors and offensive attitudes. Each place does have one specialty, and for Young's, I've noticed it's lumpia/spring roll wrappers. But I wasn't here for that today. Young's is located along Liliha Street, right past McDonald's and Foodland. There's no parking or any space to stop besides only one meter parking in front of the store. I suppose you can park in the Foodland/McDonald's lot and walk there. It's a convenient place to get to as it is close to the H1 on and off ramps. On this occasion, the meter spot was taken, but only by a mail truck, so I managed to squeeze myself behind it without blocking the driveway. I just went in to purchase some E-Mein, which seems to be the only thing I purchase at Noodle factories. They're $2.20 each, which is the same price and same size as Oahu Noodle Factory. Don't expect friendly service. From experience, just be clear in what you want and pay quickly. Proper Cantonese helps too. :) The e-Mein here is the smaller size, and more white and soft than other places. Yat Tung sells a bigger size, which is double the size. Both Oahu and Yat Tung's are yellow and have better texture, and more closer to proper e-Mein. Overall, Young's feels like a depressing place, and the e-mein isn't prepared the correct way, but it's not a huge deal for me. You can't beat the convenience of this store, but parking is extremely limited as so are the other two noodle factories. read more

I got wun tun, kau gee, lumpia, chow mein, and saimin noodles. All were still soft and fresh when i made stuff the next day. The chow mein and saimin noodles were exactly the same so not sure what happened but they were super thin and probably better to make some cake noodle with it. Go there almost weekly to pick up either chow mein, won ton wrappers, or both. Totally no frills, just order what you need, they bag it up and you are gone. Kinda has to be that way because parking is so tight. For me, Young's Noodle Factory is my go to place when I want to buy fresh restaurant quality noodles. Although they sell a variety of noodles & wonton wraps, my favorite is the Egg Chow Mein which is only available on Friday, Saturday, and holidays. As these particular thin noodles are pre-cooked, all you need to do is reheat them with your favorite condiments when you get home. At only $1.50 per lb., how can you go wrong. The limited parking is the only negative about this place. If you cannot find street parking, you can always park in the Foodland & McDonald's parking lot just down the street. read more

I learned of this place when I wanted to buy fresh quality noodles instead of the packaged ones you find in the supermarket or Costco. While the pre packaged stuff is good too, you'd want to taste the freshness of restaurant quality product and that's why I come over to Young's Noodle Factory for grade A satisfaction. I noticed this place on my Yelp iPhone app. Situated near the McDonald's on Liliha Street, Young's Noodle actory is just a short hop from the #2 / #B bus stop and is directly on the #13 bus line too. Noodles are relatively cheap in nature, so its no surprise that it's cheap over here too! Buy in bulk and save a lot of money. I love the different types off noodles that they offer and it's close to my work place too. So, I could just go there during my lunch time, buy lunch @ McDonald's once a week and skip on over to Young's Noodle Factory and buy a handful for home use. They also do won ton wraps too, so that's a good variety of stuff to choose from. Maybe you are tired of the same old pre packaged stuff and are poised for a change. The limited parking does suck at times, but it's Liliha Street and the street parking is very lacking. Most likely, you'd need to park at McDonald's / Foodland and quietly sneak to Young's Noodle Factory! With some of them as cheap as $2 a lb, you can't go wrong here! Well worth the trip. And it's awesome to cook noodles in bulk and save em for later when you don't feel like cooking. As is usually the case, the Yelp reviews were spot on with regard to Young's Noodle Factory - Five Stars! This old school, rustic noodle factory provides traditional restaurant quality noodles at whole sale prices to the public. Based on Kit W. well written review I tried her mom's favorite Hong Kong Chow Mein noodles for a stir-fry noodles and she was right they were awesome: flavorful, gossamer thin, and at a great price. My go to noodle at Young's Noodle Factory is their saimin. Hard to go wrong for 45-cents a serving, simply drop your raw saimin into boiling water for 1-minute (2-mins if you like you noodles soft) and they are good to go. I buy 20-servings at a time for $9, individually wrap them in plastic wrap, freeze them in a gallon sized zip lock bag and enjoy them as quick, comfort food whenever the mood strikes. If you like your saimin ultra-thin and fine, try their Egg Saimin, they are a bit to fine for my taste, I like my noodles al dente (firm to the tooth but not hard), but if you want to serve a very distinctive, a super fine saimin it's the way to go. Tip - parking sucks there so you may have to park at illegally at McDonalds and run to get to noodles. read more

I hate to be the one that breaks the five star reviews but I just wanted to add a tip. We decided to make lumpia for an office gathering and saw that Young's Noodle Factory sold fresh lumpia skin. We decided to go for it and bought a whole bunch to roll up. Well the skin is super thick and now I realize - they sell the skin as "egg roll/lumpia" skin which should trigger that this skin would not be the right one for lumpia. The skin used for lumpia is usually much thinner - so this is just a tip for folks who want to make lumpia. The thicker the skin is, the longer you will have to fry it. You will probably be better off getting the frozen variety made specifically for lumpia. read more

They take CASH ONLY so don't even... 3. If you don't know what you're looking for, they have pictures of the noodle bundles you are buying or review the pics here on yelp. If you cannot speak Chinese, I suggest you point at a picture to order. 4. They will ask you how much you want so note that they sell their noodles by the pound. Depending on how thick the noodles are, you will get about 4-5 med sized bundles per pound. Ie., thin wonton noodles are packed in a bundle of five where udon noodles are less. 5. I purchased 4 pounds of noodles, with 4 different varieties, a pound of wonton (80 wrappers) and my total cost was $10. This will easily feed 20 people when you add protein & veggies. 6. These guys sell noodles for home cooking so get creative. 7. Controversial but I always boil & rinse the noodles before using to rid the excess flour. That's completely up to you! read more

When it comes to fried noodles, my mom can make a real mean one. Her motto: when you want to cook incredibly tasty food from the heart, you must use only the best. The secret to her awesome fried noodles? She buys the noodles from Young's and asks for the Hong Kong style chow mein. HK style chow mein is incredibly thin, has deep in-built flavor, and comes out crispy/chewy, as opposed to regular chow mein that is thicker, bland by itself but takes on condiments well, and comes out very soft. My mom's fried noodles has met audiences across numerous potlucks, and believe me, even people who's had fried noodles made with regular chow mein their entire lives are partial to my mom's fried noodles. Young's doesn't make the noodles everyday but here's another secret: fresh HK style chow mein actually doesn't make a good fried noodles, however counterintuitive it may seem. It's actually better if the chow mein is one to two days old! Though the queen of fried noodles my mom may be, she bows down to my stepdad when it comes to making won tons. And guess where he gets his won ton wrappers from? Haha, you guessed it--Young's! For just $2, you get about 80 wrappers!
