Ordered take out - Boneless almond chicken - Used to be the absolute best. Not anymore sadly - the chicken pieces are a teeny tiny piece of chicken swallowed up by ginormous balls of batter. Quantity is fine but not chicken breast as it should be. There were zero almonds in my Boneless Almond chicken - go figure. Ordered two egg rolls and paid for two egg rolls. Definitely a fan of this Chinese/Cantonese restaurant in EL. Their food isn't too salty or greasy and still has lots of good flavor. My family ordered shrimp lo mein, shrimp dumplings, egg foo young, and vegetables. The egg foo young was hot, filled with lots of veggies, and had a flavorful gravy. The dumplings were more like shumai than gyosa, and the lo mein was exactly what I expected. We got our takeout in about 20 mins, which is what we were told over the phone to expect. I've lived near panda for 12 years and my family loves it. The chicken has always been tough and seeming of lower quality. I live with Crohn's disease which makes eating certain foods difficult, and eating at panda always gives me one of the worst stomach aches. Portion sizes are good. The rice typically clumps together and has a general wetness to it. My advice, go to Charlie Kang's in downtown EL instead. read more

After living in the area for nearly nine years, I finally tried Panda House and wasn't really blown away. I did eat my entire meal, but there wasn't really anything positive that set it apart from other options. The fried rice seemed like it was yellow rice with diced onions and didn't really taste 'fried' to me. Other Chinese options seem to have other vegetables, like peas and carrots, or scrambled egg in their fried rice. The other thing I noticed was that the eggs roll seemed to be filled with just cabbage and no other vegetables or meat. I did pick up the order and it was ready when they said it would be which is a plus. I'd say four stars for the food, two stars for the service so I'll give them the three right in the middle. But honestly if it wasn't for the food and the fact that they are so close to my apartment, I would probably not go back. Multiple times I've called to place an order for pick up and have been treated as an inconvenience to them. I could barely make it through ordering before the hung up, no total price, no estimate on how long before I could pick it up. And forget about asking what's in a dish, they just repeat to you the name and ask if that is what you want. On the other hand, the food is great. I love the Chow Mei Fun and the garlic chicken. The fried rice isn't that great but everything else I've tried has been super tasty. They have a great selection of vegetarian dishes and there is always something new to try. I'm a little leery of the pricing because it seems like I order the same thing and get a different total each time and since the bill is written in Chinese I can't find out what is causing the change in price each time. read more

I typically order Szhechuan Chicken as a lunch special, and ask for white rice; no problem. Panda House is certainly not the best Chinese food in the area, but since it's on my way home, I end up getting it every once in a while. Most of the food is pretty bland, and all of the fried dishes in whatever sauce (i.e. General Tso's Chicken) all pretty much taste the same. However, the fried dumplings are delicious! I usually get an order of fried dumplings and garlic chicken - the garlic chicken is a little spicy and comes with a ton of vegetables which I like. They had so much little of any sort of spice and so much salt and weird oil on the meat. The General tso tasted like orange chicken, yet sort of different. A few months ago I would have given Panda House a 4/5. Typically my crab rangoons and chicken fried rice come out exactly as I hope, considering that this is borderline fast food. The only reason that I would have to knock a star off is that the last time I visited my crab rangoon's were dripping oil and melted right through the styrofoam container, an absolute turnoff for me. I will most likely visit again in the future but I am hoping this problem is addressed. It should be noted that the people there are wonderful and always happy to help, from a customer service standpoint they're awesome! read more

The delivery wait time was decent (about 30 minutes). The food. however, was just okay. I haven't visited or had food from here since. I'm writing this review at 4:43 am, because they got our order wrong again. I woke up sweating. We have been ordering from here for years and were always mildly happy with our food. House special lo mein was my favorite. About 4 months ago we started ordering vegetarian, and it was ok. 2 months ago we went completely plant based/vegan and this is when the mix ups started hurting. Ordered lunch with two cokes and a generous tip. $19. The delivery driver sat in the dining room a few feet away from me and shouted non-stop across the small room to a cook in the kitchen. The food was... well.. who knows? How could one concentrate on eating it? Because I stay very nearby I have had many meals here. While the loud driver too rude to shut up is a rare extreme, there often has been something slightly bone-headed about the dining room experience in the past year. At the very least, you always have to beg for fortune cookies. Verdict: This is a take-out and delivery kitchen. Full stop. The tables and chairs --and any guests in them-- are after-thoughts. They are nearly always empty. Serious foodies, this is not one of those hole in the wall Asian miracles that we have experienced in other cities. No friend that I have brought there is willing to go a second time. Rather, the food is very adapted to local take-out and delivery palates who are shy of authenticity, clarity, and heat but who do want to "eat Chinese" at home rather than order in pizza yet again. These are the happy customers I have seen picking up their orders. Yes, the staff are as friendly as the other reviews say-- if you do not like them, then truly you do not like people-- but as the other reviews also say, these charmers do not excel at customer service. Their buddha delight is good. Everything else is nearly inedible. Their sweet and sour chicken is the worst I've ever had - worse even than the lowliest asian buffet near closing time. Just terrible. I was disappointed by the small amount of sauce they included, but after trying a piece of the chicken, I realized it didn't matter, because man was it disgusting. The general tso is also terrible, but not nearly on the scale of their sweet and sour. Their chicken rice soup tasted like water. What a sad, sad broth. The steamed dumplings aren't the worst I've had, but of all the take outs in the East Lansing and Okemos area, they are definitely the most disappointing. We've ordered from here twice (because my wife really likes the buddha delight), and both times they've forgotten something.
