I have finally found a quick and cheap Chinese food spot here in JC. I have tried other places but this one is exactly what I've been looking for. I ordered the hot and sour soup and it's pretty good. It's a right mix of spicy and sour. It is definitely recommended if you like hot and sour soup. I also ordered the pork Lo mein and the pork was bbq pork and the dish was definitely portioned well for left overs. I also ordered a pork eggroll and it was not disappointing. There was a correct mix of pork pieces and veggies. I will be a regular customer here now that I have found a great spot with good prices. read more

I asked the order taker,"Do you have Wor Won Ton soup. She said they did. I said you are sure it is "Wor" and she said yes. So I ordered a large portion. It was NOT "Wor" (it means "everything" and usually included vegetables, tofu and mushrooms). The Won Ton noodles were overcooked and slimy. The meat inside tasted old. The broth was greasy and had no spices to give it flavor. The crispy noodles were good. So I ate those with some broth then threw the rest away. Panda House is not quite a four for me...but it was close. It's a nice, neat, clean typical take away albeit with two booths and several tables. You need to place your order at the counter and there is virtually no table service...and no wine, beer or bar of any sort. The girl who served us deserved five stars for happiness and efficiency. To the food: It was served in take out containers. Odd, but sort of suitable. I ordered spring rolls and vegetable lo mein. My wife ordered Singapore noodles. Hers was nice. A little salty, a little too oily but spicy and tasty. The spring rolls were big, but were swimming in oil. The lo mein was really nice, but I had to stop when the bottom of the dish was peeping through the noodles because it was oil, oil and just a little more oil. It was an enjoyable meal, mostly, and as good as any Chinese in Johnson City. We'll go again and hope the oil was a Sunday night aberration. Next time we'll take a bottle of wine and a beer and try the foo young. read more

So, there are a couple of booths and 2 tables but it looks like they're set up mostly for takeout. The menu is pretty standard for an East Tennessee Chinese storefront. And it still has that new Panda smell! Very clean very prompt. I ordered beef and broccoli and asked them to make it spicy; it was sort of spicy but not too hot. The hot and sour soup was good. They opened about 2 weeks later than they expected to open. More will be revealed. read more

First of all it is nice that there is a local Chinese restaurant for takeout and dining near the university now. So bravo and I am happy you are here!!! The Kroger strip mall is becoming food central with all the recent and existing restaurants now - there are at least 6 at my count. This is great for us locals - I hope it will be good for the restaurants that have opened as well. I was excited to go to Panda House for the first time to check it out. I spent some time talking to the manager that opened this location - apparently the owner is in MO and has a few locations -- she has done a great job getting this one open and is very enthusiastic to see this one do well. So I asked what menu item she would most recommend. She came up with General Tso's Chicken - this was one of the most expensive (for this location) item on the menu coming in at $10 which is pretty high for an item for take out at a Chinese restaurant here. I took her advice anyway .. I was surprised I was not asked what type of rice I wanted -- so I got white rice which was okay. I also order the Hot and Sour Soup $2 which is excellent!!. Everything is cooked to order which is great. General Tso's chicken was overly sweet and ( my own fault) not very healthy. I will be trying healthier options in the future. But I would call it average .. not great but pretty good. The lunch menu has great prices and I will try that next. All orders come with won tons and of course a fortune cookie. I really want to give a higher rating in the future but for value and taste for the food I got I would call this place average thus the ratings. Visiting Johnson City for the race weekend, Panda House was a good choice for a takeout meal. Deferring to some of the safer choices, I selected the Sesame Chicken with steamed rice, accompanied by am order of Crispy Spring Rolls. All of the items were delicious! The chicken and spring rolls were wonderfully crispy. The rice was a bit lackluster, but that's not uncommon. Having only tried this restaurant once, I cannot comment on other dishes. However, based on my own experience and the large number of takeout orders I witnessed, this place seems to specialize in fried items. If you are in the area, give them a try! read more

The lady who takes the order here is extremely rude and unprofessional. I knew exactly what I order, got there and it was something completely different. At this point she's very upset and starts speaking in her native tongue all in front of soecustomers. She also told me to "never Order on the phone again." Lol wow! Then she rushes to the counter to take my order but I let her take his because I knew exactly what was going on at that moment. I've tried giving this place so many chances but today was just enough. I order two separate things and she also demanded I give her the phone number to the other person who I would be giving to food too. (Not even knowing the second order was for my child) lol I guess she wanted a minor phone number as well. According to "the boss" she needed my son phone number since the food was already made. Had she been more respectful and patient I would've purchased both plate. The rice was dry and tasteless, the bourbon chicken was decent. Overall, the food was trash. I crave the hot and sour soup from Panda House on a weekly basis!!! Ingredients are fresh and cooked to perfection, taste is complex but well balanced, and temperature is always hot! Have also tried a few other dishes and, although not blown away, are never disappointed. Portions are right where they should be for the price and staff provides awesome service and hospitality for being primarily a take-out restaurant. There is some seating, but more aimed at providing food that is good for "a night in" instead of being a destination spot for lunch or dinner. Excellent place, mostly set up for takeout. The combinations give so much food I usually get two meals and a snack from one order. The curry chicken, sesame chicken, and chicken with snow peas are all winners. The pepper steak with onions is also good. The staff are all friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. The crab Rangoon is really good too. About the only knock is the spiciness level is very low. I barely get heat on their dishes labeled as spicy. We were not offered water, I guess we were assumed to purchase a bottle of water, which we did not. The meat was weird so we asked the server TWICE what kind of meat it was and I SWEAR she said "I DONT KNOW" and never bothered to find out. We tried this place because it was nearby. I am a huge China Garden fan, so I just wanted to try Panda House. Their menu looks almost EXACTLY like China Garden. The restaurant was very clean, and the cashier was alright. We ordered the house mixed vegetables, chicken fried rice, and vegetable lo mein. The house mixed vegetables' sauce was extremely salty and almost made me not want to eat it. The steamed rice was undercooked. The chicken fried rice was also undercooked and the chicken was like rubber. It literally tasted like something you buy in the freezer aisle of a grocery store. Also the packaging, the styrofoam to go containers were extremely flimsy even though they stapled them close. There was sauce dropping out of the lo mein container which wasn't good. The food is bland(besides the extremely salty house mixed vegetable sauce) If you want quality Chinese food in the Johnson City area, I most DEFINITELY recommend China Garden. Higher quality food at a little bit less price and almost the same menu. China Garden is in the same plaza as McAlister's, Johnny Brusco's, and Mattress Firm next to the mall. read more
