For starters, I began my online order at 3pm today, and the order was accepted, yet systematically not being received by the restaurant. They open at 4pm during the week for dinner I guess. Fusion Thai Food In Hackettstown, NJ! I've been going to this restaurant ever since it opened some years ago. It's located on the corner of Main Street which is convenient and easy to get to. I like most of the dishes on the menu that I've tried. One of my favorites is the Yellowfin Tuna Pomegranite Salad which is unique and well made. The food here is different from most Thai restaurants in that the recipes are mixed with a Western style of cooking and are more palatable to some who have never tried Thai cuisine before. Besides regular Thai food they also serve an asiago cheeseburger for instance. I strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone in Warren County, NJ because there aren't any other restaurants nearby quite like it. Careful when you order ahead. Food for 530/545 delivered at 430. Called to complain and was told to put it out and they'd remake it and bring it by at the correct time. Then I received a call saying why not just keep it and no food will be wasted. So I had 2 options 1. Waste the food 2. Reheat $55 worth of food. I'm not okay with either. What they should have done is say whoops...keep it and either a. Remake it or b. Refund it. Neither happened. Bad first experience with the Pandan Room. To claim they are a "five star restaurant " is a joke. Better customer service is needed. read more

I have no idea how this place gets a overall 4 star review! Some of the worst Thai food i have ever eaten. I oedered take out Pad Thai. They told me 25 minutes to pick up. I arrived on time and found my food waiting for me. Got home and when i opened the box the first thing that surprised me was no slice of lime. Ok, i added the peanuts and dug in. The food was warm at best. The chicken was rubbery and the shrimp cold. The sauce was tasteless and greasy. Seriously, i had better frozen food. So this is our favourite restaurant in Hackettstown. The 4 of us (2 adults plus 2 teenagers) enjoyed prawn crackers starter , Mild Chicken Masaman Curry, Vietnamese Pork Chops, Crabcake on curry, and Masaman Duck with hot sauce on the side. Wait staff were friendly - i know the proprietor looks after them. It's quite busy on Friday and Saturday night so book ahead. The outside terrace is quite nice in the summer. I brought some beer for me and some rum for the missus - BYOB keeps the total bill down. Fried banana, butterscotch pudding, and the java lava; these 3 desserts completed more food than we could eat. We took 3 half meals home to enjoy tomorrow. Indonesian or Thai or Both - take your pick - it's all tasty. Unfortunately the pad thai is oddly sweet/tangy and the noodles tend to be wide, not the usual lingiuni-like that you get. The curry is OK too. First time going, and I left saying why did it take so long for me to get there! My sons and I split the peanut chicken wings, pork dumplings and veggie fried dumplings. For dinner I had the drunken shrimp, one son had pad Thai made extra hot, my other son had a noodle soup with a poached egg. My husband and I had a really nice Saturday dim sum lunch here. There was a variety of different dumplings with all sorts of fillings (pork, vegetable, lobster, edamame... etc). There was a cart of steamed dumplings, a selection of fried items like spring rolls, and other small dishes like curries. My husband and I both agreed our favorite thing was the 5 spice pork, and would love to have that as an actual meal by itself. Nothing we have ever gotten here has been sub par. We moved to the area recently and gave them a try and haven't been disappointed since. Their curries are so good, and check out the bakmi goreng or "Indonesian lo mein". You'll never want regular lo mein again. So delicious. Servers try so hard I feel bad giving a poor review. Got chicken satay, chicken was rubbery, chewy and hard. Satay sauce had chopped peanuts but no peanut flavor. Tom Kha Gai (best Thai soup IMO) flavor was good but veggies were mushy and it had so much oil it took away from the flavor. Pad Thai was acceptable but lacked flavor. Nothing stood out, although tofu was a good addition. Satay ("sate") combo entree was also just "acceptable." Shrimp was way overcooked (chewy) but beef and chicken were good (chicken was better than in the appetizer) Sauce was more like traditional satay sauce in flavor except it was overwhelmingly rich. Like not enough flavor to balance the richness. Too much oil again, maybe? Rice was good. Drinks were made from some kind of mix. One was watered down and the other was overwhelmingly flavored. Waitstaff was attentive but the weirdest thing was 20 mins before closed they shut off their background music and it got so uncomfortable in there. Really awkward. We couldn't stomach any more of our entrees anyway so we asked for the check at that point. Some places we give multiple chances but we probably won't be back. We're planning to try the Thai place in Chester next. America's Test Kitchen Pad Thai recipe also blows Pandan Room's away. read more

OMFG! Food and service was SOOOO good! First we both had Thai Iced Teas. Then shared a large Tom Yum Kong soup. It was loaded with veggies and shrimp. Delicious. She had Gado Gado Salad and I had the Thai Wings. Totally unique and scrumptious. She had Panang Seafood Noodle. Had huge piece of soft shell crab and loaded with seafood and pad Thai noodles with perfect panang sauce. I had a poached Salmon special with coconut curry, kale and edamame. It was spectacular. Pandan Room was a nice spot for a quick dinner after spending the afternoon exploring the Hackettstown area. We were seated right away, and got to select from all the open tables. We tried Curry Ketan, and Chicken Fried Rice. Both were decent, not legendary, but flavorful. I'd definitely go back again if we were in the neighborhood and feeling hungry, but probably wouldn't make the trip just for this place. read more

I brought a friend here last night to see if he would be as impressed as I always am. I'm a regular and come every other week. The food is outstandingly (incredibly creative and delicious), the service is invariably superb, and I'm treated like family, which really means a lot. And that's not because I've been coming for so many years; it's because that's how they treat their customers, and I see it when people around me are being waited on and served. My friend thought everything was phenomenal: the portions were tremendous and he told me that this was the first Asian restaurant he'd ever been to where they got the spice level just right when he asked for his food to be served extra hot. They were packed, but he was particularly impressed by how quickly people were served without being rushed. People who wanted to linger lingered comfortably. Special compliments, as always, to Ashley, who is a flawless server. Throughout the meal she anticipated our thoughts and brought us exactly what we wanted and needed, and when we did have to ask for something, it was brought immediately, and always with a kind word and a smile. We got our check but were distracted with chatting with friends. We paid and left a tip a little over 10% because our service wasn't so great. Omg I can't believe we drove for an hour to check out Pandan Room. It was totally worth it! We came towards the end of dinner time. The restaurant looks small from the outside but it's actually quite spacious and cozy inside. To start off, there was a basket of kerupuks (shrimp crackers) with duck sauce (man, how I wished it was sam all instead - maybe next time I'll ask). We ordered perkedel/corn fritters as appetizer and man them corn fritters are huge. Crispy in the outside and flavorful in the inside, just the way it should be. For entree, I ordered nasi goreng. Expect it to be slightly more oily than whatever other fried rice you're accustomed to in this side of the world, but let me tell you that's what makes it authentic. I truly felt like I was ordering it from the street peddlers like what I would do all the time back home. If you're into spicy stuff, ask for the sambal. Their sambal is exactly what a sambal should be. When you could smell the peppers from your spoon you just know it's legit fresh stuff. I never imagined of finding a small piece of home in the middle of nowhere New Jersey where everything shuts down by 9 PM even on the weekends :) I need to return one day for one of the cooking classes. read more
