This Panera seems to be a mess. I give lots of room for "real life" right now because there is a nationwide shortage of restaurant employees so things are going to happen. Last time I went through (months ago) I ordered a sandwich that comes on a specific bread. Never did they mention they were out of it, or I'd have changed my order. Instead they made the sandwich on a totally different bread (called for Asiago and they did whole wheat so not remotely comparable) and I didn't notice til I'd left and got home to eat. I let that go... However, today ticked me off. In the drive through we ordered Mac and cheese and a baguette. I also asked for a bagel bread sliced. The woman in the drive through said "so cut horizontally." I said "no, bread sliced." And then she said "ummm ok? So thick or thin?" I said "I've never ever in all the years I've been ordering bread sliced bagels been asked this. Can you just do it how people normally would get their bread sliced bagel?" Kid you not. Instead of asking someone around her, she replies and says "so would you like me to cut your bagel thin or thick?" I again said "I don't know how you normally cut bread sliced bagels. I've been going to Panera for 20 years and I just request this and it's always the same". She repeats ..."so thin or thick slices?" I told her to just forget it. And she goes "ok!" I think the description "good chain restaurant" is an oxymoron. So what a nice surprise it was to enjoy my first ever visit to a Panera Bread. The choice was based on the real estate adage "location, location, location" for a quick breakfast with a lovely Yelp friend who was in town and suggested we meet up. Since neither of us had ever been to Panera and this fit the bill for being able to eat and visit for an hour before her morning appointment, in we went. At 8:00 'ish' on a weekday morning this spacious, sparkling clean, fast-casual food restaurant was virtually empty. So there's a note if you're looking to avoid crowds. SWEETS & OTHER BREAKFAST EATS: The pastries in the bakery case looked pretty darned good, with a sticky bun calling my name. Alas, no sweets for me until Lent is over so it will give me a reason to go back to respond to the call. There were healthy breakfast choices too, including steel cut oatmeal with fresh strawberries and pecans. Also bagels of several kinds with cream cheese of several flavors. Breakfast sandwiches too. THE DRILL: Order at the counter or by kiosk at the front of the store but that's way too high tech, low touch for me so we did it the old fashioned way by talking to the helpful woman behind the counter. They'll give you an electronic "id disk" with a number on it. Take it with you to the table or booth and when your order is ready, they deliver. Bus your own when done, but if you fail to do that they do clean up after folks. Food is served on real plates. Hooray. Coffee, the dark roast is pretty darned good, is serve yourself in ceramic mugs or big paper "hot cups". PRICES: Very reasonable, we thought, for the quality of the food and format. Light breakfast for three was under $12. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot which seemed to have ample spaces. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in lot. Level in the door and all on one level inside. Lots of standard height table seating. Booths along wall are standard height too. read more

Although the prices are a bit steep, it is quite tasty. I tried the squash soup today and it was delicious. Most of the sandwiches I've had here are quite good. One of the beat things for me is that they don't add chopped up raw onion to their mixes. I'm allergic to raw onion so I'm always happy when I find a place that doesn't add them to the mix. That way people who can eat raw onion can always have it added, whereas people who are allergic cannot pick out all the pieces safely. I also really like the pastries here as well. My only gripe is that the sandwich makers sometimes put the fixings in the center of the bread leaving the sides completely dry and barren. They don't all do that... some sandwich makers pay attention to the sides as well and I'm always delighted when they do! read more

I started this review about 10 months ago and forgot to finish it. Since then, I have been back several times. Most of the time, the staff us efficient and friendly. There is almost always a long wait in the drive thru, because it us a pretty popular place. This isn't a shock. The sandwiches are so good and they have a broad menu. I have found the green goddess salad though, and that is my go-to order every time. This place can be tricky to get the food you want. Because the menu is broad, it is easy to miss a topping or spread. Like, I ordered a cheddar and steak half sandwich with my salad one day, and I failed to notice that there was a spicy horse radish spread. That would be ok... if I wasn't repulsed by horse radish. The food is expensive. You are paying for quality ingredients and I get that. But, when something is not right, the line is too long to deal with returning and I don't have 10 dollars to waste on a meal I won't eat. Every now and then, this happens. The food is too chic, looking great but either lacking flavor or over powered. This hasn't happened in a long while, now that I found what I like. I asked the gal for no kalamata olives.... and sure enough they were in there. Surely, I can eat around it but come on... my sandwich wasn't eatable; the bread just shredded as I bit into it. So I had to pick at it. And the tomatoes weren't ripe-I've worked in the kitchen to know what color they need to be for it to be flavorful. I go to Panera regularly and I almost always get the chipotle chicken sandwich. But today after I was about halfway done with my sandwich I noticed that there was a piece of the chicken that was still raw so I went through the drive-through again to let them know and the manager was really rude and assured me the chicken was pre-cooked but you can tell by the texture and the color of this piece of chicken that it's not all the way done. Instead of regular tomato, they use tomato confit (basically a grilled tomato with herbs, olive oil, etc). The tomato skins were chewy, so I pulled them out. The tomatoes themselves tasted terrible. The bacon was hard and tasteless. Regular ol' bacon would've been nice. The cheese had a somewhat bitter taste. Foo-foo again. How 'bout regular American cheese, like most grilled cheese sandwiches have? The bread was the only thing that tasted good. Foo-Foo bacon with Foo-Foo tomatoes with Foo-Foo cheese made up a Poo-Poo sandwich.
