I really like Panera. I'm always in the mood for a sandwich for lunch, and in the winter I couple it with a soup whereas in the summer, I couple it with a salad. I enjoy their free wi-fi although I don't use it as much as others. But, I'll take the time to download some new apps or songs from itunes as I enjoy my meal. Whenever I'm going to the movies, I always vote for Panera when we're deciding where to get a quick, inexpensive bite either before or after we catch the film. I genuinely enjoy the food and the atmosphere. But OMG, those annoying kids, OMG. If you get there in the middle of the afternoon, be forewarned about the middle school children who take over Panera every day when school lets out. I was on the wild, rambunctious side when I was a kid, but I like to think that I was never as obnoxious as some of these brats. I steer clear of the place when it gets that way, and I recommend you do as well. Otherwise, it's a lovely place to stop for lunch. read more

A decent Panera chain but nothing fabulous. Service was pretty slow. The food wasn't prepared with much love. I ordered the new maple bacon and egg wrap. I was expecting something light and fresh but in reality is was eggs and bacon smothered with maple syrup. Insanely sweet and not in a good way. Had I known, I would've requested plain bacon and egg in the wrap. I'm one of those annoying students who comes with my laptop and spends the entire day here...However, when I do come, I also buy about three meals, and often bring friends who buy three meals. I get that it is frustrating to have people sitting there all day, but instead of closing up outlets to prevent people like me from coming there, you should be kicking out the people who either a) bring their own food and eat their PB&J while reading their newspapers or b) remove the plethora of 16 year old children who are getting far beyond"third-base" on those comfy chairs (both true stories). That would make a lot more room for your paying patrons. Now that that's out of the way...on to the food. LOVE the Broccoli Cheddar Soup. LOVE the Turkey Artichoke Panini. Chain itself: 4 Location: 2 I should start by saying I have an unexplainable affinity for Panera in general. I love the breads, the cookies, the weird way their steak sandwich is entirely inconsistent in regard to the amount of steak you get or where it resides inside the sandwich. I've sought them out wherever I've lived since 2003 or something and I'll keep going back for reasons I cannot explain, especially since they're a bit over-priced for what you get, but man, this location can turn into a rowdy day care center at a moment's notice (as many locations can, probably) and it definitely detracts from whatever conversation or book you're trying to focus on while eating. Despite my love for the chain, this is a huge downside. For example: If you enjoy watching/listening to groups of unattended pre-teens stand on chairs and shout "Shit, shit, shit!" over and over (7:00 pm on 2/15/15) or crowds of elementary-school children fighting over chairs, food, and throwing their jackets around for about an hour (4 to 5 pm on 2/13/15) or sitting next to people who use the sitting area like a living room while they slip off their shoes and talk loudly using the speakerphone option on their cell (6:45 pm 1/19/15) with nary a manager in sight to rectify the issues, then this is the place for you! They do have a sign about unaccompanied minors (meaning they're aware of the noise/disturbance issue) but they don't seem to do much about it. I guess that's the trade off for their disturbingly good kettle chips. Since this is NYC I really should just go to the local joints, but a "taste of suburbia" is oddly comforting, even after years of living here. Whatever. Rant over. read more

Definitely a below average Panera Bread. They seem to always run out of something. Tonight, it was no Paninis, no flatbreads, and (the most horrific!!) no French bread! However they didn't mention all of that at ordering time, so I thought I was getting a good crusty French bread with soup, only to be severely disappointed. You would think their employees could compensate for the shortages a little bit by giving the customer a nice portion of chicken salad, but alas they decided to go the opposite route. Boyfriend's napa almond chicken sandwich had an embarrassingly meagre amount of chicken - it looked like it had been scooped with a tablespoon and left to fend for itself in the sea of lettuce. Other Panera's are more consistent than this one for sure, and their customer service is generally better as well. read more

Panera, Panera, Panera it just sounds like you should go there, and get some sandwhiches add the bread to that and some nice furniture and a stacked panini and call it a day. The chill atmosphere is like starbucks for sandwhiches minus the ridiculous prices, but keep the wi-fi. I hung out here typing away after a salad, and had some green tea on a rainy afternoon, and was very happy once I left. I am very pleased with the wide variety of panini sandwhiches such as Chicken Bacon dijon, tomato and mozzarella, frontega chicken, turkey artichoke and let's not forget the regulars in the lineup that include the leadoff man Chicken ceasar, and power hitters chipolte chicken and Sir Ceasar chicken. They also have a verrry niiice smorgasbord of bakery and cafe items. Pastries for days to keep hyper for sure but in a good way. I must have caught this place on a bad night. I was excited to go to Panera, as I've had the food before and it was delicious. When I went up to order, the girl at the register seemed somewhat peeved about something. Not very welcoming, but I suppose it's somewhat okay since it's New York--what more can you expect? I ordered a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with the honey walnut spread and a hot chocolate. The bagel definitely was not fresh and was hard to chew. The hot chocolate came straight from a machine and was topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. It was made-me-gag sweet--I would have preferred a packet of Swiss Miss and just mixing it myself. All in all, it is a pleasant place to go and chat with a friend, and the free wi-fi's great, but the food was a sore disappointment. I won't be going back to this particular Panera. read more

Grilled white cheese was served as yellow cheddar, and the egg sandwich turned out to be liquid egg white from a box (NOT fresh). it's also quite expensive for a breakfast in Astoria and for the portion size. I'm giving a 1 star rating not for food, staff, etc. I give 1 star because when I went to the restroom to wash my hands, I discovered a fellow washing his feet in the sink. I was unable to wash my hands. I understand that feet washing is part of a ritual related to Islam, however we are not in an Islamic country and this business must make it clear to patrons that this is not allowed due to health restrictions. Its a Panera. This one is consistent with other Paneras nationwide. They're fast, delicious, courteous, and with tons of comfy places to sit. On top of free internet and affordability, the wide range of items they serve here make Panera a place I can sit the whole day at. This is an average Panera Bread location. Their food and service are good, but they're also prone to mistakes. We've eaten lunch here several times since it's close by our apartment. The space is great; they have a lot of tables, and there are always people there using wi-fi and enjoying the atmosphere. The staff are friendly, and the cashiers are very careful to confirm your order and make sure they apply your purchase to your My Panera card. Be careful about your side item though--they don't always remember to ask what you'd like. The food is good, what you'd typically expect from Panera. The one problem is that lately, I've noticed they are leaving ingredients out of salads. My husband ordered a salad with avocado to go, and when he got home, he noticed they hadn't put any avocado on. A few times I've gotten salads and felt like one minor ingredient was missing, which I usually overlook. And recently, they left the main ingredient--chicken--off my salad. They fixed it when I pointed it out, but I was a little shocked. How do you forget to add the main item? Overall, this is an okay Panera location. You're probably safer not ordering salad. Wow a complete disappointment. I usually became a fan of panera bread because of their Mac and cheese and soups. I brought my mother here since we were in queens already. I usually go to the one in midtown. This location was all over the place. I received my order and Max and cheese were cold, tomato soup was very warm. I kept bragging to my mother how good this place was. But what a total joke. To make matters worst I todo the food prep person that out meals were cold they proceeded to tell me that they had a microwave I can use! I have loved Panera for a long time and I recently started working in Astoria and I found this Panera. I have to say that this is my favorite Panera to date. The staff is super friendly and give exceptional service. I have to give 5 stars to Allison, Tahani, and especially Chelsea who I see a lot in the mornings. Chelsea really goes out of her way to make sure the customer has a great experience. The customer service and the quality of the food is what makes me keep coming back to this Panera. The place is always clean, including the ladies room. I love the quiches in the morning and the rewards you get by using the Panera card. In the afternoons, I'll sometimes stop by for a salad or some soup, which are always delicious. Great food, atmosphere and staff make for a great combination! read more

I started my torrid, unhealthy love affair with Panera back in the summer of '02. Back then she went by her maiden name "St. Louis Bread Company". It was a time of excess as for 4 years I dined there for breakfast, lunch and dinner (sometimes in the same day). But alas, all good things must come to an end. I moved away from St. Louis, not knowing when I'd ever see SLBC again. On rare occasion, while on the road I would happen across my former fling, but under a different name. The occasional times I had a Frontega Chicken or Artichoke Turkey only made me long for the glory days. Moving to Manhattan only made things worse. Although they had expanded nationwide, Panera refused to move close to me, probably afraid of the love we once had. So I did the only logical thing, and moved to a locale that is Panera adjacent. So now I'm in Astoria, a short walk from a Bread Co. for the first time in four years, and I couldn't be happier. I look forward to the upcoming days of unlimited coffee refills, tasty grilled sandwiches and mediocre bread/bagel assortments. read more

Barely a three star review. Sure, Panera Bread isn't supposed to be compared to the gazillions of restaurants in Astoria/Long Island City. The food here is fine although kind of pricey considering it's a chain. Salads, pastries, coffee, sandwiches, etc. All of your typical suburbanite meals for your pleasure. But my biggest gripe with this particular location (I haven't really checked the others around New York City) is that the wi-fi is absolutely terrible. Even when you're here with barely any customers the wi-fi is insanely slow. In addition to the internet being slow, when there's too many people there for lunch, the kids coming off of school just taking up space, and etc. the internet is even slower. This Panera, like most, is large, clean, and just a little slow. We only got drinks and cookies to split between a party to sit and hang out for a bit while it snowed, but the tables were clean, the wi-fi worked, and all the baked goods and drinks were delicious. My first review was 3 stars. The horrendous cappuccino was balanced out by the amount of space and seating, a rare thing in New York. I returned to take advantage of the space to get some work done. Dropping to 2 stars because: - The iced coffee gives the cappuccino I had the last time a run for its money as the worst in the world. I am not prone to exaggeration. - The pastry I had was the only thing better than 2-star about this visit, and it only gets 3. - The free wifi is limited to 30 minutes. I understand the need to keep the leaches out, but 30 minutes is rather short, especially given the amount of empty space. - The couch I sat on was so broken down and sunk in it was uncomfortable. The piece of rough-sawn pine used to repaired it had sharp edges and dug my calves. Now, if this were a hole in the wall, I would have taken it as part of the bargain, even liked it. But Panera is a Starbucks-like sterile non-locally owned chain. The usual deal with such devils is: You give me convenience and predictably decent quality for a low cost, and I'll give you my business (sometimes) even though I'd rather support small, locally-owned business. Panera Bread suits me just fine. Without question this neighborhood is host to a bevy of other outstanding bakeries/sandwich shops. However, this one happens to be rather convenient location-wise. And quite frankly, this place is consistently clean, stocked with tasty food and friendly staff. I'm a big fan of their Mediterranean sandwich, vegetable pesto soup and assortment of croissants and scones. And I truly appreciate the variety of teas and coffees on hand. However, minus for lack of enforcing their policy that "Between the hours of 3-5pm anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult."I was at Panera one afternoon enjoying my lunch when a gaggle of high school kids invaded the store. There were easily about 15-20 that rolled through. And I understand why this policy exists. They're loud and take up space (while not all ordering/eating food). I love Panera bread with a fever. I go out of my way to make sure I know where the Paneras are on road trips. This is the closest one to my house in Brooklyn and I go once a week. Panera has great, consistent food (soup/salad combo for $8 and free refills on drinks). This specific Panera is a local hot spot for teenagers. Thus, it gets very loud in the afternoons and very crowded. Signs indicate from the hours of 3-5 the under 18 set must be accompanied by adults but those signs are unenforced as far as I can tell. If you come during the school year, bring headphones. read more

In the summer time, Panera Bread is an afterthought to all the sidewalk cafes nearby. But in the winter, I'm craving comfort foods and a place to sit in a big soft chair and play on my laptop. Panera is a sandwich chain that offers more variety than your average Subways. Their signature sandwiches, a tad more expensive than Subways but rarely go over ten, will fill you up pretty good. The taste is pretty much what you'd expect from the stuff they put in. Nothing really special. The service is friendly but dull, pretty much standard for a fast food chain. After you order you will wait by the kitchen counter where 2 dudes somehow conjure up decent looking sandwiches in a cluttered kitchen. The seating area is comfortable. The place will be brightly lit at night, good for sobering up after a movie nearby and the free wifi can help you pass some time. There will be plenty of seating so its always a safe bet if you're seeking conversation time. I like Panera bread - but I find myself more attracted to other sandwich chains like Potbelly. Reason? Ehhh probably because I am a bigger fan of toasted and hot sandwiches while most signatures in Panera are cold. Food aside, as a meeting and casual chillax spot Panera is hard to beat in the neighborhood. My only option for good food in Long Island City! I don't have car, so when we go here for lunch, my nice colleague will drive us here..we often will stay and eat, and its really amazing. Ok the situation since I last added my last review changed. Their wifi is now quite reliable, and when it's not, then you can get some from the Applebee's nearby.
