Apparently it's National Cookie Day! I decided to go here for a quick treat to celebrate it so I grabbed the Kitchen Sink cookie and Lemon Drop one. The kitchen sink one plus salt has a great combination of salt and sweet and the lemon drop could do with a touch more lemon. The parking lot here is decent but nothing insane. It does have a drive thru which I'd probably do next time as it seems this Panera was poorly planned (it feels fairly cramped). The staff was polite but it seemed to take a while to get through, although that might have been more to do with customers than the staff.

We were seated right away, and it was a perfect day to sit outside. The hostess let us know they had workers outside, but we were totally okay with the noise, which ended up being very minimal. We didn't order any drinks, but for food, I decided to try the birria grilled cheese, which comes with one side, and I chose fries. Not only did it look so appetizing, but it tasted AMAZING. The bread had some sort of seasoning on it that added so much flavor to the sandwich. The fries were seasoned exceptionally well too. I'll definitely be back sometime soon to try more items. The food today was 10/10, and our waitress was very kind and attentive as well.

The food had a…read morelot of promise, though a few dishes felt like they were just slightly off from being great. I had the Cubano sandwich, which was good overall, especially the smoky meat, but I think the coarse-ground mustard overpowered the flavours a bit and dulled the smokiness a bit. A plain yellow mustard might balance the sandwich better and let the smokiness shine through more. The sweet potato fries, however, were excellent. My wife Laura ordered Emily's Salad, which was pleasant and fresh, though we both thought it could have benefited from a little crunch--maybe some seeds or nuts added in. Our daughter Alex had the birria tacos and carne asada fries. The tacos were tasty, though a little on the small side, but the carne asada fries were fantastic. Umai! (I am a Rengoku fan; if you know, you know.) I highly recommend it. Our other daughter, Sam, ordered the birria grilled cheese and elote fries, and both were really good. Her cherryade was especially refreshing. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, though the dining area and patio felt a bit bare. A few plants outside and inside would really warm the place up and give it more character. The music was pretty good with indie hits in there. I also tried the Old Fashioned. It was definitely strong, which I appreciated, but it felt like it was missing a touch of sweetness or something to round it out. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves, and I'd absolutely go back and try more on the menu. Their waitstaff was top-notch and really were on their game. The restaurant has good ingredients and solid ideas--it just feels like a few flavour balances could be dialed in a little more.

Our group ended up waiting a long time each time we needed to speak to the server and it resulted in a lunch that took significantly longer than a weekday lunch should take. It would have been more understandable if they had been swamped but it was a pretty light day and we were one of a handful of tables at most. However, I will still give it another chance because the blackened salmon salad and spinach artichoke wrap I had on the two visits were both delicious.

We also split their Korean Meatballs. It looks like the food is mostly made to order. Sure, you don't get a lot and it may be a tad overpriced, but what we had was good. The employees were nice as well. One lady who called my order out by mistake, and my daughter went up to get it, gave her one of their rice krispy treats for free for the 'trouble'. My daughter was pretty happy about that, lol. All in all, my daughter and I liked and we will go back and try something else soon.

I'm not the cruel type (cruel = weakness, only the strong can be kind--I know because I was once cruel). At the same time, underwhelming is underwhelming and I must report the facts. Fortunately, there is something about JB's that is excellent. I'll save the best for last. In the meantime, I'd like to give you a piece of advice. If you ever go to Iowa and people tell you, "This place has great pizza," please remind yourself that Iowa is great for a few things (primarily steakhouses, methheads, and tornados), but pizza isn't one of them. I took this local advice and got the pizza at JB's. If you know pizza, then as you can see from the picture, it's not very appetizing. I struggled to eat the first slice, ate half of the second, and then decided to give away the rest. I figured that would be easy due to 'amazing' pizza but it wasn't. I went up to five people before the sixth person couldn't believe I was giving him a pizza. The Turkey sandwich tasted like something you would pack for a climb up Mt. Washington in NH so you could eat it at the peak. The good news: This place is really an amazing bakery that also serves food. If you're looking for baked goods, go here! I was very impressed. The service was also pretty good. It depended who was working but it's the Midwest and you will mostly find kindness. And while you might find great food in some places in Iowa, it will not be found in Council Bluffs. Even traveling poker dealers say this often (good stop but terrible for food). I'll be posting some food reviews in near future as it's a way of reliving adventures I lived in the poker world for years. In fact, I have very likely lived a more adventurous life than any breathing poker player over the past six years. It had its costs but would I change anything? Hell no! Also, I don't know what the next chapter will be, but it will also involve adventure. I got a little off-topic there. I have written entire books about these adventures and I have no plans on writing any books for years so I might be adding little tidbits here and there on Yelp.

This restaurant is quietly tucked away near the old town portion of Council Bluffs. Metered Street parking is available in the area. We were there mid afternoon and there was quite a bit of activity. I'm guessing that this location gets a lot of traffic later in the evenings and on weekends. Don't let the slightly frazzled menus fool you, this restaurant is immaculate! I cannot believe that I have never been here before. The hours of this restaurant and its menu clearly reflect the ability to get Mexican style breakfast, lunch or dinner all day long. Our servers bilingual capability reflects the clientele that are attracted to this wonderful spot. Great chips, nice fresh salsa with a little bit of heat and very good guacamole. I love the fact that they offer a little bit smaller portions so that you don't end up feeling like you have to stuff yourself or leave a little bit behind. The pricing is great and clearly beer and margaritas are readily available. There is even a corner of the restaurant that caters to Mexican style snacks. Great desserts too! We will definitely be coming back here again - and so should you!

We had a reservation, and we're able to get in right away, but there were many people waiting at the door on a Saturday night at 6:30. Our server did a great job, although I'm sure she was busy with many tables. We had a party of seven, and she got our soups and salad is out quickly, as well as the rest of our meal. My only complaint from this visit is that our salad was not stirred at all. It was a bowl of lettuce, with a few tomatoes and one corner, a few banana peppers in another corner, a few red onions in another corner, and the dressing board on the top. This was disappointing, as a salad is one of my favorite parts of Olive Garden! There wasn't enough toppings or dressing in the salad, which caused it to fall flat. Fortunately, our food came out pretty quickly, so I didn't eat much of the salad. Our entrées were delicious! The fettuccine Alfredo is always my favorite, and this came out perfect. Lasagna surprise me with how fantastic it was! Every ingredient tasted amazing, but the ricotta cheese was the most impressive part to me! I took a bite of the chicken Parmesan, but did not prefer this, as it definitely was was on the cheaper end and probably a frozen/reheated pea that quickly became soggy with the marinara on top. For the price of this meal, I am always blown away by the quality! I absolutely love the flavors of the sauces and ingredients used here, they're always the same, no matter what location you go to. After getting this dish, I may have to change my usual order from just the fettuccine to this trio!
