I usually go to the Natomas Panera which is definitely five stars. The Davis location for some reason the food doesn't taste as good and and restaurant just seems dirtier than other locations. Let me start off by saying that I love Panera, I've always had great experiences both at and ordering from this particular Davis location. I Wanted to write this review because I'd love to acknowledge the amazing customer service that I received today from Shannelle and the horrible experience I had with Daniella. I often go to panera due to large catering orders that I place, or simply to grab lunch. I went in and was greeted by Shannelle with a nice bright smile. I stepped over to the catering section and was "helped" by a worker who was completely the opposite, Daniella, no greeting, no smile absolutely nothing. When I asked to transfer some food items to separate boxes she simply handed me the boxes and didn't even bother to assist me. I was astonished at the way in which she didn't even acknowledge the fact that I might need any sort of assistance, let alone gloves when handling these food items! After asking the same employee for gloves, she just handed them to me and walked away. I've always had a wonderful experience at Panera ordering with Jonathan, or other of his team members, but employees like Daniella simply make me want to take my business elsewhere. I'm very upset at the fact that I'm a customer, who simply isn't going to do, or shouldn't do any sort of work that an employee should be doing or at least helping with! I've been in the customer service industry for quite some time now, and it's something that can make it or break it for a customer. Employees like Shannelle, Jonathan and the other employee who helped me carry all the items to my vehicle (don't recall his name) are exactly the type of employees who will get recognized because of their personable and friendly customer service skills. *This review concerns laptop/internet use only and doesn't really relate to the food or other aspects of this cafe.* Okay, so I went to Panera in Davis because I've recently found that Paneras, in general, are great places to camp out and work on my laptop for a few hours. This is not the case at the Panera in Davis, the only Panera where I've been that limits wifi time to 30 minutes during peak hours . When I was at the Davis Panera, it was around noon on Saturday and there was ample seating and lots of open tables. I bought my lunch and planned to grade (course Website). But, 30 minutes later, I was kicked off the wifi with no explanation. I said something to the manager and he explained the new(ish?) policy and said that it was on the wifi log-in page (as if anyone reads those). It would've been helpful if Panera had posted signs elsewhere so I could've just gone to another cafe where they actually want their customers to hang out and spend money. This is what I get for supporting a chain instead an independent cafe like Delta of Venus, where I'm now finally using wifi and able to hang out. As far as Paneras go, this one's similar to others, except for that lame time limit rule. And there you have it. read more

I first came in here during finals of my fall quarter. free wi-fi, comfy seating, decent lighting for studying, all in all a great place to do study sessions with a friend. Their items can be pricey, but once in a while, i like to eat here, because their food is really good. Nothing beats a bowl of hot soup on a cold day, and well if you're in davis during this time of year, you should know that its FREEZING here! and and! im guessing if you buy something, you get to choose any pastry for $0.99, i think that's a steal, since the pastries are really good, so far, i've just tried the blueberry muffin, but i've heard many good things about panera bread pastries. Definitely a fan :) Oh! I forgot to mention the staff, they're pretty attentive, and greets you once you walk in the door. I used to do customer servicing, so I get the effort that they're putting in for that. I have never once been disappointed at Panera Bread with the service or food, and I eat there all the time. The food is always prepared extremely well. The service is always grade A and expedited quickly. The only complaint I usually have is that seating is generally an issue in Davis. Richard Pro here with another review. I've always liked the ambiance at any panera. Great colors, great lighting, and very comfortable booths for seating. Panera has always been pricey though, so I try not to eat here too much. I eat a lot, and a $7 sandwich doesn't fill me up. Tried the sierra turkey sandwich on asiago today, and it was fantastic. The sauce was perfect, the bread was fresh, and overall it was a scrumptious blend of perfection. It was the perfect sandwich, except it was about half as big as I wanted. 4 stars. Pricey, DELICIOUS, and small portions. It'd be 3 stars if it was subway or quizno quality, but boy was this sandwich tasty. Pretty much your average Panera bread restaurant. There are lots of options to choose from on the menu in addition to the bakery items. The food is obviously not gourmet but it does the trick when you want to grab a quick lunch and use their wifi to study in between classes. It's usually fairly clean which is a huge plus in my book. I frequent this location often and the service is great. They're always fast and very welcoming when I come in. Sometimes my order is ready before I even set foot in the door.. And one of the workers knows my name. Can't beat that really. read more

I went here twice last week. They were out of almost every bagel both times. At 9 in the morning. With at least 7 people working both times. This is just ridiculous, there is no reason for this to happen twice in the same week. Once, okay, maybe someone quit last minute and you're scrambling. But twice? Nah. This Panera needs better management and better employees. If this had been the only Panera I had ever visited, I would never come back. As it is, avoid this Panera at all costs. Slowest service I've ever seen... Took them 20 minutes to take 2 peoples orders. The employees don't seem to care if there is a line, as they continue doing whatever else they want and wait on you when they feel like it. Ok so - we came up to Davis to see the school. My daughter and I go to Panera once a week back home - it's consistent food. So...we thought we would grab something quick. Standard stuff - ordered Broccoli Cheese soup with bread. I don't know what the deal was but it tasted AWFUL. Awful enough that we stopped even trying to eat it, pulled the bread off the plate and I returned the soup where we picked it up. Told the guy that I wasn't looking to get our money back and we didn't really want anything else but this was GOING to make someone sick. Tasted OLD and well...there is no other than "yucky." I was given cold soup and when I ask about getting a warm bowl instead I was told I could use the microwave under the coffee to warm it up. Sloppy made sandwiches. What can I say about Panera except that it is about time they made an appearance in Downtown Davis. The food is always great due to the fresh bread they make everyday. I really enjoy the variety of items they offer on their menu and plan on eating here more often. I have had their bagels in the past and they are really worth the short wait in the morning, my co-workers in the past don't mind the variety dozen of bagels I bring to work with me, or the gallon of coffee I pick up too! read more

I'm a big fan of Panera and their Fuji Apple Chicken Salad. Can't go wrong with it! A half-order with a side of a small apple will do the trick for a great lunch. This Panera is definitely one of the smaller Paneras I've been too, but the interior is quite nice as it is fairly new. read more

I am one of the crazy Panera bread customers who visit Panera almost every day. There are four different locations I visit regularly, and this is the only Panera Bread near my home. I think this is the perfect place to meet with someone for coffee / tea or brunch. The workers here are more friendly compared to those in the other three stores. There is one worker who recognizes me and say "Welcome back!" everytime =) The reason why I'm giving four stars, not five is because this store is small (about just half of the other stores in size), and more importantly, they do not run automatic kiosk ordering system. Due to this, I sometimes had to wait in line for quite long. read more

Maybe not the right place for a date night with the hubby, but nonetheless, we both tried the combo soup/salad plates. The food was underwhelming. Salad was literally thrown together so that some of the leaves hung over the bowl. I took the silverware back twice because it had dried, caked on food stuck to it. The soups were ok but nothing to rave about. I had the chicken noodle. Portions are on the small side for the prices. With so many great choices in Davis, we won't be back to Panera bread for a meal. Okay, so I love Panera's Mac n cheese. I usually compliment the meal with a turkey bravo sandwich. But at this location, I was disgusted by their food health services. (The staff was nice!! I had no problem with the staff) but it is UNACCEPTABLE that I was given not one plate of food with hair but two! TWO FREAKING SANDWICHES SERVICED WITH HAIR! Within five minutes. Like you would think they would be extra careful with the second plate. I get it, people make mistakes.. hair falls. But I was totally throw off when my second plate had another black short hair mixed in the ham. The first time, I pulled a worker aside and told them about the problem. But the second I felt like I had to make some deal about the problem. I called the manager's attention and began explaining to him that he should enforce his employees to wear hair nets. All five or six male workers preparing the food were not wearing hair nets. I was pretty annoyed by the manager. He wasn't bothered at all, he did apologize a couple times but did not mention any actions to prevent this problem in the future. Gross! In the end, I was given my money back and the staff was nice but the food was disgusting. I'm posting this compliant two hours after the incident happened. read more

Mostly because the food is always great and the employees are for the most part friendly. This place is so unorganized and they DO NOT communicate with each other. I come here at least twice a month for a lunch order that I call in for pick up. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME it is complete and utter confusion. No one can tell me where I need to go to pick up my order and I am always told by more than one employee to go to an entirely different area than the last employee who I JUST spoke with. I end up waiting and walking in circles for the amount of time it would have taken if I would have just walked in and ordered. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of just waiting around for the employees to get their shit together. I have been tolerating this hot mess for a long enough time and am completely over giving them the benefit of the doubt. Panera's food is always solid, so that's not the reason I gave this place 2 stars. I was extremely disappointed and disgusted because not only was I shafted once, but TWICE by this particular location in Davis. First trip: Ordered a 1/2 sandwich and salad with baguette bread and walked around to find an outlet so that I can plug in my laptop. I would not recommend this place as a study spot as there are hella people here usually around dinner time and when I went there was this "study group" of girls, one of which had the most obnoxious, infuriating laugh (I wanted to stab her after 15 minutes). I noticed the cashier gave a vibrating pager to the customer before me so they are notified as soon as their food is ready. I didn't get one, so while I was looking for an outlet, they apparently called my name but this was about 3 minutes ago, so my soup and sandwich cooled down until I noticed a bit later. I asked them if they called my name to which they said "yes" and that they could have given me the pager so I got my food as soon as it was ready. This was a bit inconvenient but what disgusted me was when I went to use the restroom, I noticed one of the employees used the urinal, and walked out while I was washing my hands, disregarding any California state regulations and protocol. I was dumbfounded and lost my appetite to eat since I told the cashier and he told me he was one of the dish washers...you've got to be shitting me, so I've been eating out of a plate that's been washed by that unhygienic brute?? WOW. Just, I have no words... Second trip: I came back 5 days later to use the remaining balance on the gift card. I ordered a sandwich and salad with baguette bread to-go. I was about 50 cents short so I was about to bust out my debit card to pay for the 50 cents but the cashier said not to worry about it, which was a nice gesture. Later, I came home and found no trace of the baguette bread. What the actual fuck. I thought I would have a better experience this time since I was eating in the comforts of my home rather than the lousy so-called, free-Wifi study environment Panera boasts, but I ate my sandwich with the thought that I was shafted once again.
