I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about this experience, but I think I'm still mad? I've been to Panera a handful of times, but started going more recently in the past couple months to pick up their Tuesday bagel deal. The first week that I went (end of April), they were advertising that you could get a free $10 gift card with the purchase of a $50 gift card, I figured I would be back, so I might as well get a free $10. I ordered my bagels and purchased the gift card without issue, but when it came to ringing up my free $10 gift card there was some confusion. The person ringing me up had to call a manager over to show her what to do. I figured it was just a new promotion and not everybody had been trained on it yet, so I wasn't too worried. They reached over the counter to grab a gift card on a stand in front of the register, told me they put the $10 on it and that it would be valid June 1st through June 30th. With that I left, feeling like I'd gotten a pretty good deal. In the following weeks I returned to get the Tuesday bagel deal a few more times using my $50, but come June I wasn't able to make it in. On June 30th, I rushed over at 8pm so I could redeem my gift card before they closed at 9 and the gift card expired. I picked out $10.77 worth of stuff, but when they tried to use my gift card to pay for it I was told that it had a zero balance. The cashier asked somebody else about it and was told to try a different register as they had had an issue with a gift card previously and another register had worked. The cashier tried another register and it still showed a zero balance. At this point, a manager got involved. I explained that this was my free $10 gift card for making a $50 gift card purchase. He told me that it wasn't the correct gift card and the gift card that I was supposed to receive was green. I said that it was the gift card that I was given at the time of purchase and asked him if he would honor the deal. He told me "no, it wasn't the correct gift card" and said that he wasn't even sure I had gotten it there. It's at this point that I got mad. I've worked retail for a loooong time and I knew at this point that he thought I was trying to scam them. I asked if there was a corporate number that I could call as I was just trying to redeem the offer they had advertised and he directed me to a number on the back of the card. At this point I walked away from the counter to let my boyfriend, who had been at a table on a phone call, know the situation. As he was getting off the phone I looked in my wallet, hoping for a hail Mary that I still had my receipt for the gift card that I purchased in April. Luckily, I found it and my boyfriend and I headed back over. My boyfriend asked what was going on and the manager took on a different tone entirely. I strongly feel he believed he could screw over a short, somewhat quiet girl, but knew that the 6'1" 230 pound construction worker would be a different story. We gave the manager our receipt and were immediately told that they could honor it. As I was being rung up, the manager yelled over to the cashier to throw in two free pastries. After we'd paid the remainder of our balance that the $10 didn't cover, we went to pick out our free pastries and they decided to throw in a third one. This was while the cashier was trying to diffuse the situation, pretending that she now remembered when I came in to purchase the gift card and asking if I remembered who it was that had helped the cashier the first time I was rung up. It was 2 months ago and I'd been in multiple times since, so I obviously didn't remember what the people looked like. She also said that they had had problems with the promotion with cashiers not knowing that there were special gift cards to be used for the promotion, aka exactly the problem that I had. If they knew this was a problem, you would think that they would know how to handle it without automatically calling the customer a liar. Although in the end I walked out with 3 free pastries on top of the $10, it felt like too little too late. Free pastries don't take back accusations of being a liar and a cheat. I won't be back after this experience. I still have a balance on my original gift card, which I'll send my boyfriend in to redeem since they obviously seem less inclined to screw over the male portion of their clientele. read more

What a disappointment. 1/2 sandwich + soup 8 bucks. Only about 1 tablespoon of tuna, with big fat bread that fell apart...must be dry. Then a huge chunk of tuna in the tuna "salad" ...broccoli /cheese soup bland and barely warm. Restaurant was near empty, yet still took over 10 minutes. Worst tuna fish sandwich ever. I've been told by a countless amount of people of the female gender that are quite often white that Panera is pretty much the Jesus of sandwich restaurants. I decided to take up their challenge, warning them I was a mega food critic who was part of the ELITE SQUAD on Yelp, a very high honor that only the best in the world at Yelping receive. So, I walked my buttocks into Panera and I asked for the best sandwich they had, and I ate it, and brother let me tell ya it was a pretty good sandwich. But, pretty good does not cut it. No sir, I've had a better sandwich at a Subway. In fact, I've had a PHENOMENAL sandwich at Subway. But this, this was far from Subway material. This was pretty good meat on bread that I struggled to swallow. Panera is not bad, but it was not the best sandwich I've ever had, not even the best fast food sandwich I've ever had. I wouldn't have a problem coming back here with my white girl friends, but I'll keep Chipotle as my own white girl go to. TL;DR: A decent sandwich. That's really it. read more

I came into the Clackamas Panera this morning to get a breakfast sandwich before work and the line was pretty long and there was only one cashier not until I was one customer behind in line did another cashier come up and finally start helping out first of all, especially being on my way to work as I'm sure other people were as well it was not a very fast process. I ordered one breakfast sandwich and a drink and it took about 20 minutes for me to get my sandwich. I just about left and said forget it. The Woman who made my sandwich look to be a young maybe high school student she was not very enthusiastic about her job and you could tell she did not want to be there. She was just kinda flopping things around, as I finally hear my name I say thank you have a good one! and nothing in return from the employee. As i get to work (late if I might add), I open my sandwich box to see a soggy smeared sandwich UPSIDE DOWN, cheese all over the box, with the egg slid off. I had to throw it away it was so gross and messy. It's like she just threw it in there or dropped it and didn't want to fix it?! On top of this disgusting mess I find GUACAMOLE all over on my black work clothes and my leather passenger seat in my car. The employee must have set my bag in some guacamole and not cleaned it. I am livid. What a waste of my time and money. I will never go back to Panera unless this is made right. I'm so disappointed. read more

I do not usually ever give a terrible review BUT this is well deserved. Maybe it is a sign of the times... I have a piece of advice for Panera. Hire a professional cook and pay them very well. You will go down like a ship in Pearl Harbor with Outback Steak House and Applebee's otherwise! You cannot help the current job market and who you unfortunately have to hire. However, you can make sure your food quality is great. Stop hiring uneducated kids to cook unsanitary food for your unfortunate patrons. These kids don't care that I will never come back for your cold bacterial laden soup that is a health code violation, or your sandwiches that were missing ingredients. The food was unsanitary and disgusting and it actually pisses me off! My husband's simple Ham sandwich was flipping terrible and inedible. We left angry and hungry. This was the worst Panera experience. Drive the extra and go to Gresham. Counter help was distracted and spoke with other workers while we were ordering so our order was not correct. The soups were cold. The sandwich lettuce was wilted and the manager did not seemed phased or apologetic that we were unhappy. We will not be visiting here again. read more

This is a great place to go study at, or have a quiet meal with friends. I love the cozy atmosphere and the great food, for any time of day! They have yummy bagels, and muffins, but my FAVORITE item on the menu is the broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl. Nothing beats it! :) My food is always ready in less than five minutes as well, even when there is a really long line. read more

Food was pretty good, almost gave them two stars for that but service was slow and they gave our 2 year old son yogurt that expired almost a month ago(today feb 3rd, expired date Jan 11th). I talked to a man that looked like the manager and he said "eh sorry" and started to walk off so I said "well you should probably check your stock to ensure no other kids get one expired." He then walked off with food and I never saw him check and he never followed up. So far our son seems fine but everything we looked at online said 1-2 weeks max before food poisoning and other icky stuff could occur. We will be watching him closely tonight. read more

I always really enjoy my food. But I do always have some sort of problem whenever I order. They are almost always out of what I want, but don't realize it until I've ordered. I typically order online, because I almost always go on my lunch break. Whenever I order a salad with romaine, the bottom is always salad hearts which are gross and sometimes brownish. They tend to forget something on my salad everytime. Usually it's only like they forgot my croutons or something that I didn't pay extra for. Whenever I buy a bagel, they always forget my cream cheese or give me the wrong one. I also don't like how the cutter cuts the bagel, but that's not their control. Aside from that, they have really good customer service and are always super kind about making it up. read more

I tried asking about the menu once and the cashier was really rude, now I just order the same thing instead of asking questions. Totally disappointed by this restaurant. It was very crowded, so I assumed it was going to be a good lunch experience. Wrong. Seating was extremely difficult & the food was totally unforgettable at best. My daughter seemed ok with the pasta and salad combo but my almost $10 sandwich was pathetic at best. Sourdough bread ( I thought bread was their specialty ?) was of balloon bread consistency and sourdough taste was nonexistent. The turkey, avocado and bacon, were sloppy & chopped up so that it seemed just thrown together like a kid would do. Never eating here again! This will be my first and last Panera experience. I recently started a job that has me working in the suburbs vs. the city, and am discovering that my lunch options are much more limited than I am used to. I had to run an errand during my lunch hour and afterhearing coworkers sing Panera's praises, I decided to try it since it was close and I was short on time. I'm not sure how anything with bacon on it can be bland, but my sandwich was just that. It was also the tiniest sandwich I have been seved in a long time. I'm glad I ordered a whole. But at a 9$ price tag, I'm left wondering where the rest of my sandwich is, because that cost surely can't be for customer service or dining experience. As another reviewer said, I have had better sandwiches from Subway, and that's likely where I will head next time. read more

I met a friend at this location of Panera Bread for a cup of coffee. I have a service dog in training. She's a small dog, miniature schnauzer (they're hypoallergenic) and weighs 10 lbs. I have optic nerve damage in my left eye so I use her to assist me in walking to be sure I don't trip or misjudge when to step off a curb. Well, she's in training and we sat at a booth. She was to the left of me on the floor, not lying down but sitting and a customer complained. The manager came over and asked me about her. I told him she was a service dog. He said, in a rude manner, if I did't get my dog under control that I'd have to leave. He proceeded to tell me a customer had complained. I picked her up and put her on the other side of me under the table. I noticed a man kept watching me to see if the dog would come out from the table, assuming he's the complainer. Either way, the manager was rude and that really wasn't necessary. Also, my friend went to the counter 2 times to order a coffee. The first time she waited about 5 minutes and NO ONE was at the counter to take her order! No one!! She waited then went back... no one was there again. She waited again and finally, after a couple of people were in line and orders were being taken, she went up and ordered something. I decided not to purchase anything from them after being treated the way I was by the manager. Some people have disabilities that cannot be seen by the physical eye. So I'll not return to this Panera Bread cafe. read more

I always love going into here and smelling the fresh food and breads cooking and being sampled out. The price has been what's keeping me out. I feel like it's happening all over but for some of the serving sizes I've gotten or the way my sandwiches have been wrong or a mess... I think the food should be reflecting the price change. Other than the cookies and coffee, I don't think we'll waste another almost $50 for a family of four on any meals at Panera again. I stopped coming to this location for a reason, and was definitely reminded why. The entire restaurant could use a good scrub down, there's grime all over the place. For $50 I feel like we totally were ripped off, we order one kids meal, and three of the pick two meals, and three drinks. Fake cheese in the grilled cheese now, which used to be the real stuff. And the bacon Mac and cheese, just a side condiment cup of bacon set next to the bowl?! My kids love this place. When asked were they want to eat when headed to a movie at the mall or a day of shopping. They all scream Panera. Why, because the macaroni is scrumptious, the bread Devine and the service super friendly. While sometimes the restaurant maybe messy after a big rush the staff is quick to help clear and clean a spot for you. They are relatively fast. A few favorites are the apple salad, Mediterranean Flatbread and chicken noodle soup. And don't get me started on the bagels or pastry. read more

This s a review of their panini turkey sandwich and a shortbread cookie. Just average at best sums it up. The panini was lacking in flavor. Hardly any turkey on on. I also tried a shortbread cookie. At $2 it's way overpriced. Too fluffy for a shortbread. Still think the British ex-patriot at the Saturday Market made the best shortbread cookies in Portland.
