This place is a weekly staple in my household. We love the Smoked BBQ Chicken Sandwich (too salty for my taste), BBQ Chicken Salad (awesome), Chicken Cesar Salad (chicken is tender and croutons are extra crispy), and the Broccoli Cheddar Soup or Mac and Cheese. They give a lot of food for the amount paid. However, the customer service here is inconsistent. We have been given the totally wrong order or items have been missed a handful of times. Today, I placed an order for curbside. Upon arrival, there were no places to park so I placed my blinkers on as instructed and waited. After waiting for 15 minutes an employee came out. I had to flag her down and was told that she was going to check on my order. She came back to tell me that it would be a 15-20 wait on top of the 15 minutes already past my order pick up time. I asked to speak to the manager to maybe have a portion or my order filled since I needed soup for my sick child. The manager named, Cathrine, came out and explained that I should have received a notification about the delay, which I was never received. She said she was "sorry" but clear was more annoyed then anything else and definitely not sincere. I had to ask her to cancel my order because I could not wait any longer and she turned and walked back to the restaurant. She never stated when I would receive the cancellation so I had to return to the restaurant ask for a receipt. She never returned outside. Her demeanor and attitude was completely unprofessional and if there were as many customers as she claimed she should have notified the ones that had paid for their order via text or email. She clearly was not cool under pressure and should not be allowed to in a managerial position if she let her restaurant turn in to complete chaos. Panera's promise to me failed again! Their promise is: Years ago we began a never-ending journey to serve delicious food that is better for you, for our associates, and for the world we live in. I ordered Rapid pickup this morning. Expecting them to meet their promise. What I received was a hard, burned souffle that was uneatable. The problem is I didn't realize what I had until I returned back to my office. So I called, and called, and called several times to try to connect with a manager expecting they would make good on the bad breakfast I received. Couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. I even called after peak hours thinking certainly someone would pickup the phone. So I thought surely I can connect with them online to find they really don't want to hear from their customers online either! I will preface this by saying I am not a big sandwich person. But I was in a hurry and didn't want "fast food" so Panera Bread was a good quick option. There were lots of choices on the menu of salads, sandwiches, soups. I went with a half salad and half sandwich. The green goddess Cobb, and the Tuscan chicken melt (or something like that) honestly it all looked unappetizing and sloppy unlike the pictures on the wall menu. The salad was wilted and the chicken seemed canned or frozen, or fake....not sure. Their commercials make everything look so good, wholesome and healthy. NOT! I did eat most of it only because I was hungry and didn't have time for anything else but it was not good enough to go back for. Ever. Had a really nice experience today at the Panera Bread today. Ordered the pick two and had the 1/2 sandwich and Mac and cheese. The sandwich was fresh with nice bread, turkey and apple and was very tasty. The Mac and Cheese was good with a generous portion given. The place was very cleans and the servers pleasant. To pay $6.19 for a large soup ? $12.38 for 2 "large" soup before sales tax. They look more like mini small soups. Soup is a ready food in a container that does not require to be made or prepared on the spot. It is a fast service and very unprofessional, looks like they mostly care about the money part only. Customer services not good, they trow the 2 hot soups in a single paper bag where the paper bag broke due to the hot temperature and all in one bag with the bread. They seem like they don't care about clients. Put each soup in a separate bag and if needed double the bag and make that soup a real large otherwise don't call something large that is small. read more

I never have a positive experience here! Each and every time I order (the exact same) sandwich, it's wrong, and I have to throw it out. Let me clarify. I have a severe tomato allergy. Each time I order a sandwich, I express my allergy and state "No tomatoes." Even when I order online, I always remove the tomato check box. Whenever we drove out to my in-laws in Antioch, I always looked curiously at the Panera on Lone Tree Road and wondered about it. Low and behold, they decide to open a location located down the street from where I live! In Hayward of all places?! Can you believe that?? Crazy, I know. I visited Panera for my first time on Saturday. I felt like some sandwhich and soup and figured it was the perfect time to try Panera. I walked in and totally loved the interior and warm feeling. The baked goodies looked so delicious and I swear that brownie was calling my name! I ordered the Turkey and Artichoke Panini and the French Onion Soup (with a side of potato chips). The wait wasn't long at all. I took my order and headed home. Oh the delight of my Saturday afternoon lunch! The panini was wonderful!!!! And the french onion soup, oh my! The onions were savory and carmelized wonderfully and the croutons!?!? WOW!!! So yummy!!! My choice of side: small bag of potato chips were great too. They made my panini taste *that much* better! I liked Panera so much, that I decided to return the following day, yesterday and get a light dinner from there. I went with the Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice Soup (so hearty and warm!! loved it!!), and the Asian Sesame Chicken Salad which was pretty great too although the dumb lady forgot my cilantro and I didn't notice until I got home and didn't feel like going back for the flat leafs. Ohhh, I had a sweet tooth and decided to get the Pineapple Upside Down Mini Bundt Cake. OH WOW!! It was perfect! A little crumbly when I cut a piece, but dang, can I say super yummy that makes me just want to stuff my face with it with a glass of milk on the side. I frequent Panera. It's my third time here in Hayward. This place continues to have issues with cleanliness despite my complaints to the manager (this morning). The floors were filthy and sticky. It was only 8 am. The fireplace mantle had human hair and dust balls in its corners. The tables had crumbs. The carpets had food, dust balls. I called the manager (the young man with earrings) up and he was annoyed. He didn't have a name tag on him. I tried tapping on his shoulder to get his attention and he gave me a look. I am deaf and I get peoples attention by tapping gently with one index finger on the shoulder. Sensitivity training may be needed. I hope the Hayward Southland Panera would improve since I work in the court nearby. The ladies who work here are friendly and courteous. I must mention that. The manager is to be blamed. He told a young worker guy to go vacuum and clean the tables. He did but used the same rag for all tables without finishing it. The restaurant management needs attention. read more
