I go here for breakfast or lunch when I want something a little more healthier than fast food. On February 18, 2016 I ordered from the pick two menu and added a lemonade and cheese Danish. Well to my surprise when I got back to work with my food the lemonade was spoiled. I called to advise that the lemonade was spoiled and was told that it's not spoiled. The person who answered the phone discounted my claim and said "okay so you don't like the taste we make the lemonade from a concentrate and the date on it was May 2016". Just because the date on the package say that it should be okay does mean that it is. The lemonade was spoiled. I told her she should check the machine I highly doubt she did. I would never recommend anyone to go here for a sandwich/panini. Me and my boyfriend were very disappointed with our orders. I ordered a panini and a yogurt parfait. The worst shit ever. The panini was so soggy and thin that all I ate was the inside. And the parfait was so watery fucking McDonald does a way better job. On top of that both items wasn't worth the price I paid. My sandwich was made so sloppily, its like they just grabbed a handful of lettuce and almonds and the smallest amount of chicken. They forgot to include my side items. Everytime ive eaten in, ive never had a problem. It's like since it was a to go order they just threw it together. It was dead in there so they cant blame it on being busy. So annoying after paying a more then i think paneras small portions are worth and a long day of work. If you're going to half ass your job then don't work there, you're dead weight. The food is great, I love everything about Panera but the cooks always get the order wrong. The last 5 times in a row the order was missing something. The first 3 times they forget my avo in my salad, the 4th time they forget the chicken and avo in the salad, the 5th time they forget the egg in my egg and cheese bagel sandwich. One time I tried to order a salad and make some additions like how you can at the kiosk or whatever you call thit self checkout things, and the guy said you can't do that that he can only make the salads as is?!? I share Christine W's shock that a Panera would open up in Hayward, but I welcome it nonetheless. Panera, along with Elephant Bar, are Southland's noble attempts to "class up" the place, and it's done a great job getting these two businesses to open up there. I even read somewhere that a Mimi's Cafe will open up in the future, but I haven't confirmed this. Anyway, back to Panera. Their food is great. They give you a pretty decent portion, yet the food is light so you don't feel guilty afterwards. Prices are between fast food and a fully-fledged sit-down restaurant, but the atmosphere leans toward a restaurant. The paninis are good, but sometimes they undertoast it. The cold sandwiches are good too; I like the Asiago Roast Beef and the Bacon Turkey Bravo (it has gouda cheese!). All meals come with a free side of a baguette or a bag of chips; I recommend the chips. Panera is overwhelmingly a lunch destination. I once tried coming here for lunch only to find it insanely packed. Try coming here for dinner instead. If you're looking for something not overly filling, this is the perfect place to go. The dinner crowds are usually thin, though recently they've gotten larger, but at least you won't find long lines or be at a loss for a good table. read more

I did an online order with curbside pick up, I didn't check my order before leaving I had ordered a bowl and a salad with apples for my sides. Long story short I get home, and there's no salad so I called the store the gentleman on the phone stated they didn't have any extra salads and that he was quite sure it was in the bag. So I suggested that I would be driving back to the store to hand him his bag and dispute it with my credit card company, then his customer service kicked in and he offered to cancel the order and refund my money. Ewwwww!!!!! Okay I have been going to this Panera since it opened and it has been going downhill since the beginning. Everything needs work from them getting orders wrong, constantly not having items in stock, employees scratching their head while preparing food, employees wiping down tables with nasty rags, not having employees show up (bakers) and consequently not having things ordered available. Today was the worst; today I watched one of the leads (not sure if she was a manager) work the cash register and go grab a bagel out of the toaster with her bare hands!!! I told the lady ringing me up (assuming she was a manager by her attire) and she casually said "oh, she didn't use a glove?" Got our food went home, first got a wrong soup that I couldn't even be ate by the person that ordered it due to allergies, then there was a long hair in my moms salad that she pulled out of her mouth almost gagging as she did. Unfortunately, this was my worst experience at panera yet. I couldn't use the kiosks to create my salad because they added a new feature where it limits how many "adds" you can have. So after wasting time on that, I went to a cashier and explained my order to her. Seemed like she wasn't paying attention, and it turned out she missed a few of my customizations, including extra red onions (I got a normal amount maybe even a light amount) and no olives. It was frustrating because I know my order well and I usually always get it right when I can do it myself with an online order or the kiosk. My husband ordered a "bread" bowl and only got a bowl of soup. To make matters worse, when I let the waitress know about it, she took my salad back to change it and didn't offer me a free treat! I saw on the receipt that's what they're supposed to do. My husband didn't even mention the bread bowl thing because he's just like that and won't say anything even though his order is wrong. Just got back from a "rapid pick up". Waited 25 minutes for the order and when I enquired about when it would be ready they told me it's been ready for 10 minutes but they ran out of flat bread and needed to ask if we could substitute the bread. I said that was fine and asked why no one tried to get a hold of me 10 minutes ago?? I got no answer. Moments later my order was ready and a brought it home. Sadly my Panini is now cold and a bit soggy from sitting around, but worse my Fiancés BBQ Chicken Flatbread (that needed a bread substitute) is 100% not correct. I have gone to this Panera location almost twice a week for the past six months and close to every time something has been wrong. One time they completely forgot salad dressing for my salad. I walked in to this location and there was a group of ppl in line before us no biggie... so as we are waiting to order patiently several ppl walk in and start ordering at a the kiosk... Edwin the manager who also was working the register asked how may I help you and as I start to speak he walked away to help the customer at the kiosk with out any explanation brings her back to the register and proceeds to take her order as if we had not been standing at all... then he pull his card out of his wallet to pay for it. At this point iv had enough and walked out and thought I should call and find out if it customary to treat customers that have been waiting like they don't exist. I stopped by here for a quick lunch after a work out and was surprised by the good service. Came in during lunch hours, so of course there was a line but the wait wasn't long and it gave you time to look over the menu since they have a lot of new options. The gal at the country, named Zahira, greeted me with a smile and was polite through my questions (since I rarely come to Panera Bread, I always need to ask what comes on what). She gave me a buzzard and I sat at my table - probably waited less than 10 mins and the food was out. Soup and half of a flat bread was presented nicely and everything tasted delicious. Of the multiple times i've gotten my usual order from here, it's been wrong each and every single time. I live in Hayward and so it is close to me, but I prefer the automall Panera. I usually order the Turkey Bravo and I ask for it toasted. Never is. They forgot my turkry bravo sauce on the side. I think I'm addicted.. My first time eating Panera was when they catered a work function and I fell in love with their sandwiches.. My favorite is definitely the chicken caesar and bacon turkey bravo.. I started my second round of addiction when my classmate would bring their bagel baskets with spread to our quarterly potlucks.. I never thought to actually go to Panera since I would just enjoy it periodically at work or school, but that changed yesterday! I ordered their half sandwich half salad combo and it was just as amazing as I was expecting it to be.. Every order comes with a bread roll, kettle chips, or apple slices.. Since I enjoyed it so much I decided to come back today to order the full sized chicken caesar salad.. The going rate for one of these delectable bed of greens is $7.29 but for $3.50 more you can add medium rare slices of steak to your salad.. I love love loveee steak with this type of salad so I decided to give it a shot.. Since the price is for an addition and not a substitution you still pay the regular price of the chicken version, so I asked them to put the chicken on the side to get my moneys worth.. Their dressing is so creamy and definitely tastes homemade! It also comes with asiago croutons and fresh grated asiago cheese (yummm).. Even though the bill is a bit high ($11.11 total) with this addition it's totally worth the price you pay.. I ordered the same exact item from an Italian chain restaurant and the quality was not even close to what Panera serves up.. This is quickly becoming my new favorite spot! Be sure to sign up for their rewards card to get free goodies (free pastry after online registration).. If you need another reason to get yourself to Panera then consider the good will behind their company.. They have locations that offer food where you pay what you want or are able to afford.. They also donate all bread that hasn't been purchased to local hunger relief organizations at the end of each day.. All of this goodness wrapped up in one company is sure to be a winner! read more

During my rotation at the Hayward Wellness Center, I had the pleasure of perusing a variety of food and beverage options at the Southland Mall. Panera Bread happens to be one of the best places to have breakfast or lunch in this area. There is ample seating inside and out, with several cozy alcoves for all sizes of groups. Outdoor seating is sunny in some areas and shady in others, perfect for all types of weather preferences. Service at this Panera is always friendly and helpful, while the food is a step above the average dining establishment. You do, however, pay a pretty penny for the ambiance and fancier foods. Expect to spend about $15 to be full. I am a fan of their smoothies. Truthfully, I spend $4.39 a pop for my little smoothie, but it is the healthiest tasting smoothie you'll find at Southland Mall. Trust me, I've tried a few! When I'm lucky, I'll accrue a $1 off coupon with myPanera and get a discount on my smoothie, like today =) My favorites are the Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie with Coconut Milk or the Superfruit Power Smoothie. The former has a great flavor and the latter has yogurt, so it feels more filling around breakfast time. Their You-Pick-Two option is always fun to do, as well, since you get a variety of foods in your meal. I usually get the mac and cheese and some sandwich or a soup. Panera has pretty watered down coffee, so I generally avoid caffeinated beverages from here. But, other than that, this is probably the best option for a healthy meal at Southland Mall! read more

It pains me to have to leave a so-so review because Panera Bread is my go-to for lunch when I didn't bring my own to work or was too lazy to cook. They have a lot of great, healthy options and are super great with allowing you to customize your order. The Rapid Pick Up option has been a life-saver, as I'm sure anyone else who runs by for a quick lunch can attest to. I come to this location probably once a week, sometimes more and have always had a great experience. Unfortunately, my last visit was seriously lackluster. I ordered my salad via the Rapid Pick Up option as usual, and brought my book with me to get in some reading with my lunch. I grabbed my salad and as soon as I sat down, I noticed that it was topped with corn and tortilla strips, the 2 ingredients I had requested to be removed from the salad. I checked the receipt to make sure that I had actually requested the modification, and sure enough, it read "no corn, no tortilla strips." Whatever, things happen especially during a busy lunch rush. I took my salad back up and asked the young girl who was handing out the orders if it could be re-made. She was very nice about it and sent it back to be made correctly. A couple of minutes later, they hand her back my salad but now they've made it only a half salad, when I ordered and paid for a full salad. Before I even had to say anything, she let them know that it should be a full salad and sent it back a second time. Finally, a few more minutes go by and they hand me my salad back, everything looks good. Again, as soon as I sat down, I noticed that now they have left off the avocado that comes with the salad. Really? Messing up the same salad 3 times? At this point, so much of my lunch had gone by and I was so hungry, I just asked the same girl for a side of avocado instead of having it made again, and she kindly accommodated that. Shout out to her for being the only good part of my experience that day! I love the scones here! Panera is so slow!! It takes forever there! Zero sense of urgency! Don't go if you're in a hurry. Also they don't offer a non dairy creamer for their coffee bar!
