Panera Bread on Hurstbourne is one of my go-to places when I just want a simple, relaxing lunch. The fireplace inside gives the place a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, especially on quieter days. I usually order from the kiosk, and I like that most of the menu items have pictures, so it's easy to pick something depending on what I'm in the mood for that day. The cashiers have always been friendly whenever I asked for a coffee cup after ordering. The food has always tasted fresh, and the bread is especially good. It has garlic and some kind of special sauce or seasoning on it that really makes it stand out. Definitely recommend this location. read more

My experience with this Panera was excellent all the way though! The order was easy to place even though I used two promotions (sip club and free bakery item with entree). The restrooms were clean. The other was ready quickly and well presented. The drink station was clean and had the item I wanted. Tables were clean as were waste areas. My poppyseed fruit chicken salad was the best that I've had! It was so fresh! The Dubai chocolate cookie was so yummy. I loved the filling inside. Panera has to come off the list - if I'm paying, it's not going to be a choice in the rotation. When another salad spot was closed, my husband suggested picking up a salad from Panera. I have always enjoyed the Fuji apple chicken salad. What came home was such a disappointment. The salad is about half the size as normal and the feta looked more like grated Parmesan cheese than chunks. I still had to supplement with items as home to make a complete meal. read more

Went with friends for a lunch visit this week. Busy place, especially through the drive-through. We were inside and my order came up quickly. Delicious broccoli cheddar soup and one of their added side breads. The soup was full of broccoli and nice and hot. I added a large hazelnut coffee to that. Very friendly atmosphere. Workers very courteous and attentive. I just wish they would bring food to you as other similar restaurants do. I really don't enjoy scraping my plates and putting them in stack along with silverware in another stack and garbage in that little round hole. I end up getting stuff all over my hands and that's yucky. But a great place for conversation with friends. read more

Food is like all Panera's which means it's good. Unfortunately the dining area is always messy- most notably dirty tables. I'm part of the sip club & the last three times I've been in to get my drink- after the app said it's ready- and no cup is ready, so I have to ask for it & prove that I put in the order. This was rough! One of the worse Panera visits in my life time. The chain has notably taken a nose dive in my opinion and this started pre pandemic. This is a tardy review from early Fall. Overall I would say it's more inconsistencies in Panera stores that I see. My unscientific observation is the chain nationwide has a Yelp average of 3 stars when five year + it enjoyed a 3.5 or better. A half star is huge folks. This particular stop was a weekend evening and the restaurant was dead except for the apparent homeless man at the table. I noticed nothing out of the ordinary on cleanliness. Upon approaching to order no one was there. It was still 30 minutes prior to close. Finally a young woman arrived unapologetic as to the wait. I attempted to order several items to which I kept hearing they were out of that, or did not have that type of bread etc. I finally settled on a Turkey sandwich. The order too approximately 20 minutes and my name was called. I did eat in. There was nothing fresh about the sandwich and I did not finish and left. Every time I go in here, they are severely understaffed. Often, all of the coffee dispensers are empty and food takes forever. When I've ordered food ahead for work meetings, it has never been ready and it's an ordeal to try to make it. Today I left without my food 25 minutes after it should have been ready, and I couldn't even find anyone to say cancel the order. The staff there is nice and doing the best they can. First, the REALLY good stuff: As we entered, a Panera employee who was evidently going on his break opened the door for us, gave us a big smile, and says "Welcome! Come in!" He also took a moment to talk with us and told us there must be something going on downtown because they were really slow. And, the good stuff: The place was clean, the food was good, and when we finally managed to place our order, it didn't take very long for the food to be ready. And now, the reason I'm bothering to write this review: When we walked to the counter we found signs that said the registers were closed and we should use a kiosk to order. As an Ohio State fan, I'm familiar with an old joke: You write "Want to know how to keep a University of Michigan graduate busy for a few hours? See other side" on both sides of a sheet of paper (for thouse U of M grads who might need an explanation, you read one side of the paper and follow its instructions to turn the paper over. Then, when you read that second side of the sheet of paper, you follow its instructions to turn the paper over. And there you are, turning the paper over again, and again, and again until, after a few hours, you think "ahhhhh! I get it!" and put down the sheet of paper). Someone at this Panera must be an OSU fan, because when we walked to the closest available kiosk, the display said there was a problem of some sort and we should go to the counter to place our order. I can just picture U of M grads walking back and forth between the counter and the kiosk, can't you? Anyhow, rather than walk back to the counter, we waited for some folks using a working kiosk to finish placing their order. And we waited. And we waited. Obviously, they were no more familiar with running a Panera kiosk than we were. I've never used a Panera kiosk before, and in the time it took me to enter an order of soup and sandwich for my dad, a drink for my dad, and an order of soup and sandwich for myself, those folks who ordered ahead of us had received their order and were just sitting down to eat. I would have given this Panera a 5 start rating for this visit if we'd been able to walk up to the counter and place our order. But, while I realize those kiosks never call in sick, don't go on vacation, and aren't payed overtime for working extra hours, I'd much rather see the money I spend go towards paying someone a wage than to buying kiosks. read more

I've eaten at a lot of Panera locations, some are great and some are average. This location fits squarely in the "average" category. To be more precise, it's probably more hit-or-miss than anything. For probably 20 years Panera has been our Sunday Lunch location, regardless of where we lived. It wasn't until we moved to Louisville that that habit started to change. That change was largely precipitated by the large number and variety of restaurants in the area. Second behind that is the service at the Panera Bread locations in the area. The food is usually good at this location, it tends to be the service (or lack thereof) that takes away from the experience. On one occasion we were given a pager after our order was placed. We go our drinks and sat down, waiting for the pager to go off. After about 20 minutes it hadn't gone off so I went to the delivery window to check on the food. Our order was sitting there. Our pager hadn't gone off, and they never called our name. I guess that's just what they do when no one responds to the pager. They let it sit until it gets cold. And that's exactly what happened. My Cuban sandwich and my wife's soup had gotten cold. When I asked the person behind the counter she asked if I wanted a fresh one. REALLY? NO, I'll take the cold one and my wife would lover her chicken and wild rice soup just at room temperature, thanks. *OF COURSE* I want fresh food! Did you really have to ask? It seemed to annoy the person behind the counter. I didn't care. It was this incident that kept us away from this location for the better part of a year. I'm also not a fan of the of the self-ordering stations they're trying to push customers toward. You've got staff, let them take the orders. (Likewise McDonald's and their order kiosks). But that's just me. This facility has always been clean and (aside from the incident above) the food has always been good. Service times often lack, but the staff (aside from the incident above) is usually pretty friendly and helpful. Is this the best Panera I've been in? No. Is this the worst Panera I've been in? No. (that distinction goes to the now-defunct Oxmoor location) Will I go back? Probably. The last couple visits have been pretty good, so I'm hoping so. read more

I go to this Panera all the time because it is close by. I love that they have the online ordering and pick up. I have been going to Panera for a long time and typically get an everything bagel and coffee or my favorite sandwich- frontega chicken. Soups are always delicious as well. The reason I would not give this restaurant 4 star or more is because they are inconsistent. Some days you get a full, perfectly crisp salad and others you get a wilted half of a half salad. I talked to a woman today (a manager) who said I would be delivered my missing chips and even an extra pastry. It has been 50 minutes seince this call has happened. I am a fan of Panera Bread due to their commitment to reduce antibiotic use in their meat supply. This particular location also has a 100% health rating by the local health department! I like this location due to that 100% health department rating and the ease of getting in and out of it from the highway. However, I had to hold out on giving it 5 stars as the manager was leaning against the wall at the front door smoking a cigarette, requiring that I pass through a huge cloud of cigarette smoke to enter. Once inside, there was a LONG wait due to having only one register open (on a Saturday!) and I could find no clean tables, eventually having to wet a napkin and clean one for our use. I am a huge fan of the Ancient Grain Arugula Salad with Chicken and it was delicious as always. They then told me to place another order. Ridiculous. This store was making the order. It's a Panera .. so I have to visit. Its one of the few franchises that I actually love to support. This one though, is good for a quick lunch, but not a good place to hold meetings, meet with friends, or study. It gets WAY too busy and crowded.
