Service was very slow, it took 2 hours to get my food, when I my food it was cold, the food was good-ish

I havent been to a CPK since the early 90's. I was a poor college student then, and CPK wasnt cheap, so it was reserved for special occasions and pay days haha. Its where I fell in love with the concept of a pizza with toppings other than tomato sauce and pepperoni. I had to go to Oxmoor the other day and when I passed by it in the parking lot I thought "hey, why not?" The interior is nothing thrilling but it was very neat and clean. My server was lovely and pleasant and brought refills on my drink without me even asking. I got the Neopolitan Burrata (housemade Neapolitan pizza sauce, slow-roasted cherry tomatoes, and Parmesan with creamy burrata, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh basil) which was delicious and expertly made, with huge leaves of fresh basil and an amazing burrata cheese. My one issue is the price. They have always been expensive but $20 for a personal size pizza? Thats wild and the only reason I cant bestow a 5 star rating. I used this location for a dinner and it was a horrible experience. The pizzas were not good at all and cold. I have used other locations in the past and received better friendly service but pass on this location at Oxmoor. The owner responded with a suspended account. If there have been more complaints like mine I'm not surprised. I don't mind providing details but don't act like you want to know more. Don't waste your money here. read more

Not a good experience. They were out of many many menu items. They charged for the "birthday dessert" when we were led to believe it would be complimentary. The pizza was bad. The tomato bisque was fine...until it wasn't. Both my husband and I went to bed that night with upset stomachs. The server-eh. California pizza kitchen is a pizza chain with a location here in Lousiville located in the Saint Mathews area inside the oxmoor center mall. I know had eaten here several years ago but could not remember much. So recently while here on a lent Friday around lunch time while shopping in the mall we stopped in for a more recent visit to get a cheese pizza. The decor and setup here is very spacious and has a laid back vibe and atmosphere. They have their own exterior entrance and patio or they have an entrance from inside the oxmoor mall. We were able to grab a seat immediately on our visit here. We had very fast and prompt service on our visit here. They did a good job of working the lunch rush. As alluded too above it was lent so I went with a 5 cheese pizza. Their pizza are personal pan styles that feeds 1-2 depending on your appetite. My wife also added an Mediterranean Salad. For dining in you are also served complementary bread and oil. The starter bread and oil was solid. Bread was kinda hard with not much fluff to it. But it had a solid flavor. My wife said her salad was bigger then she thought and very good. Said it had a nice flavor and was very filling. Me and my 2 year old shared the pizza. It was a solid pizza. Had pretty good flavor. Wood burned thin crust style with little to no sauce. So it relied on string cheese flavors to pack the punch. Which it did. Cheese was very good. Overall a very solid pizza. read more

We popped in for dessert and ate it before I could take a picture, and it was so good. While hanging in the mall, getting massages, walking around, and having lunch elsewhere, we decided on dessert here. The butter cake with hagen-daus ice was excellent. It wasn't a huge piece of cake, but with the ice cream added, it was plenty for us to share. We both had coffee, and with tip, it was about $22, so it was a bit pricy, but again, the cake was moist and flavorable. The ice cream was creamy and was really good with the cake. Only complaint was the waiter said he would make fresh coffee which I appreciated and it was was a good cup but he brought the cake when he started the coffee so we had to drink our coffee after we gad already eaten the cake. This week I found myself at Oxmoor and in need of a lunch option with outdoor seating for a catch-up with a best friend. CPK was just the thing! We were able to easily get a table outside, and our waitress was quick to serve us. I ordered the lunch BBQ Chicken Pizza, a CPK favorite, as well as a Mediterranean salad. This pizza hit the spot. It had that bit of BBQ kick. I also appreciate that the waitress asked if I didn't want onions on my pizza after saying that I didn't want any on my salad. (Not a huge fan of red onions.) And considering that I'm currently pregnant, I like that CPK has a mocktail menu, along with cocktails and other spirits. When it was time to order, our waitress brought our checks, which had a QR code that allowed us to easily pay at the table. Every place should have this. This is a staple of Oxmoor Mall that we have visited plenty of times. Today our server was Jake. He was pleasant enough. The restaurant was steady for a Tuesday night with a mixed crowd of couples, singles and families. We were seated right away and drinks received within 5 minutes of seating. Everything was great as far as atmosphere and temperature of food, however the service was running a tad slow. This was weird since it really wasn't overly busy. We had to ask for bread several times before we received it. We waited 20 minutes for our spinach artichoke appetizer and our food was right behind it. I didn't eat my meal as I was full on the spinach artichoke. I did however save room for dessert. We shared the seasonal butter pecan caramel butter cake. OMG! That thang was so delicious. Oof. I should've realized something was not quite right when we arrived at noon on a Saturday & the place still has plenty of seating. This was only my second time dining here - the first being many years ago. My daughter & I ordered the chopped cobb salad and BBQ chicken pizza to share. The salad was decent, but apparently I misunderstood that gorgonzola was basically the same as blue cheese (which I despise), so I guess that was on me. The pizza was so bad, we didn't even take the uneaten half home. It wasn't remotely hot. There was more basil than chicken & just over all, it was a big fail. Service was non-existent after placing our order. My water glass was empty when our food arrived & the server never came back to check on us. We had to flag the manager down to get our check. At least she knocked some off the bill for our dissatisfaction. We won't return. read more

Consistent CPK bbq pizza and Thai salad. Not the most flavorful or unique, but food arrived quickly and well made. Servers were attentive at first, but not enough of offer refills, more bread, etc. Perfectly kind, but not particularly attentive throughout the meal. We've visited this California Pizza Kitchen numerous times and I only now realized I'd never reviewed it. It's time to fix that. CPK has always been a great place to go and has a great variety of food, whether you're looking for lunch or dinner. This visit was for a Sunday lunch and we arrived around 11:30 and were seated immediately Since we like tall tables, we sat in the bar area, which affords a view of the yellow-bricked pizza oven. No sooner than we sat down we were greeted by Logan, our server. He took our drink orders and have had bread and iced tea for us in no time. Since we don't eat at CPK often (often enough, actually), it took us a few minutes to look over the menu, but Logan was helpful with suggestions and answered any questions we had. My wife opted for the lettuce wraps and I went almost immediately for the Santa Fe Bowl. One of the things we like about CPK is that it's not loud and obnoxious. There's no loud music playing and there's not a screen showing a sporting event I'm not the slightest bit interested in staring me in the face. There are a couple screens but nothing that serves as a distraction. Our food came out in about 10 minutes and was exactly as we ordered. The Santa Fe bowl, like my picture caption says, is amazingly beautiful. Logan wasn't far behind the food delivery person to check on us and to see if we needed anything else. He also mentioned that you can now take a CPK pizza home with you...and that it's only $5. You know, Take & Bake style. Fast forward to use taking home a Chipotle Chicken pizza (which became Monday's dinner). This visit to CPK was great. Logan was outstanding and the best server we've had at this location. He was spot-on with everything, especially the iced tea refills (we drink A LOT of iced tea and it can be a challenge to keep up with us) and making sure we were being taken care of. We might be adding this to our Sunday lunch rotation. :) read more

"I ended up leaving not finishing my food for a Chemical Hazard. I left With a headache from the chemicals sprayed and bad taste of chemicals in my mouth." I was exposed to. According to Markel Specialty, the three chemicals commonly used in commercial kitchens for cleaning and sanitization practices are chlorine, ammonia, and iodine. These chemicals can cause serious harm. I should have sued, and I still just might. The manager admitted to me that it was Chlorine. I just left California Kitchen. Around 8pm on 10/16/23 . And I am livid at the experience. When I got there I sat down in an empty section. Nobody was seated in the tables in front of me or behind me. The food comes out and it's good. But the waitress started to spray a chlorine to clean the table in front of me. The table in front of me had no guest and was clean. She was reckless with her spraying. She was very close to my table. The chemicals and fumes are spraying in the air blowing towards me and my table full of food!!! I thought this was a fine establishment. What type of people starts to spray chemicals heavy around somebody who is eating? People with no home training, common sense or manners. I asked her nicely to "stop spraying near me. I don't want to inhale chemicals while I'm eating and it's getting on my food". She looked like she wanted to keep going. But instead hops to the next tables. And spraying like her life depends on it, So, now my area is fumigated with chemicals. I can now taste whatever she is spraying in my food and in my mouth. I'm now inhaling chemicals. She could have waited till I got done eating. Or used the wipe by itself. It was no need to spray the chemical as heavy as she was spraying. It was way too much. I walked up and told the manager. She seemed like she really didn't care. Telling me "It's not going to hurt you. But I understand your plight?" basically. Instead of fixing the issue and correcting the waitress she brushes me off. Not very nice people. The waitress is trying to convince me that she wasn't close to me. " But you still heavily spraying chemicals in the air while I'm eating. Horrible experience I am totally irritated. I ended up leaving not finishing my food. With a mild headache from the chemicals and bad taste of chemicals in my mouth. The waitress and the manager were not professional. The waitress also, went in the back and had another waitress loudly laughing and asking out loud "where is the spray and saying girl bye?" which is a street term and very disrespectful and dismissive. And could have turned into an altercation. The waitress was antagonizing me. This establishment has ghetto, unprofessional waiters and management. Will not be returning to this place. I thought it was a nice establishment but was I wrong. They need to train their waitresses on how to clean tables with a towel. You do not have to spray chemicals heavy to wipe a table. And teach some costumer service, etiquette. and table manners. P.S I called back just the next day now and Brandy the manager answered. She wasn't nice I called to get the corporate number. She gave me the number and her tone was rude. She hung up and slammed the phone in my ear. My thing is no restaurant should be spraying chemicals around food at all. I normally see waitress use a towel. But you are spraying chemicals while I'm eating is just plain rude to me and crazy. Then you are cleaning and sweeping using chemicals near food that's hazardous. This place is always packed anytime I'm at the mall, but luckily on Black Friday we were able to get two seats at the bar as a couple were leaving. The wait for a normal table was 45 minutes, so the bar seats were fine! The bartender seemed really overwhelmed, probably due to the crowd, so service was not top notch. Took a while to get waters, took a long time to place our order, and took forever to pay our bill, thus the reason I docked one star. The food alone though was fresh, flavorful, and really enjoyable. The two of us shared the roasted buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($9) and the Spicy Milano pizza ($15). The cauliflower was presented nicely, had a good amount of sriracha, was served atop blue cheese dressing and shredded celery. Very tasty. Our pizza really hit the mark - we loved the spicy sausage as well as the fresh mozzarella. Will definitely order it again. Overall, great food and atmosphere, and wish they service was a bit more attentive. Total bill was $25, so very reasonable for lunch for two. read more

Stopped in after doing some shopping. I had not been here in many years and was glad to say I was pleased by everything from food to service. I was greeted and seated with social distance in mind. Alex my server was very friendly and welcoming. I order a Citrus Martini and some fish tacos. My drink arrived and was delicious. Bright and full of everything that makes a martini perfect for a lunchtime drink. The fish tacos were cooked well and loaded with fresh red cabbage and a wonderful sauce. The blue corn chips and salsa added a perfect side to my meal. I will most definitely return if shopping at Oxmoor. read more

CPK has always been a chain that I enjoyed, yet for some reason I always forget it's there. I've been to multiple locations and never had a disappointing experience, and have tried multiple things on their menu. I'll start by saying they have some great drinks. Their wine list is pretty decent and they have different sizes you can order. I've also tried their sangria, which was soooo good! I've tried multiple pies, and I am pretty impressed that you can opt for cauliflower crust here. And, not that it's an unknown secret or anything, but they also sell boxed pizzas at grocery stores that are also pretty good. As for non pizza related menu items, the wontons have probably been my favorite. While I do like to go local over chains, California Pizza Kitchen is one that I wouldn't mind. As long as the food stays good as well as the service, I don't have a reason that I would skip out. read more

We had a wonderful time at CPK! What started as a last minute "let's grab some dinner before heading home" date while at the mall ended up as a great meal and adventure at California Pizza kitchen. We each tried the cauliflower pizza crust which was thin and crispy and honestly could have easily passed as regular pizza crust. I'm a convert! The bbq chicken pizza was the winner of the night, but the mushroom was also good. Next time, however, we'll get the truffle oil added because it definitely needed that extra kick. The best part of the night was our awesome server and CPK's adventure guarantee. I really disliked the wine that I selected and our server replaced it with something else with no questions asked. Apparently that's the norm at CPK and as someone who usually feels guilty sending something back, makes me really happy to know that if I'm unhappy it's easy (and encouraged!) to get something new. read more

This was my second time visiting California pizza kitchen. The first time I had a margarita pizza and it was great. I wanted to be adventurous this time so I tried the California club pizza. It wasn't my favorite. There was no sauce and barely any cheese. It had way too many greens just sitting on top. There were huge slices of avocado just sitting on top. I think it could have been a lot better with some kinda of sauce, less greens and chunks of avocado instead of slices. It wasn't a bad experience; I just wasn't a fan of the pizza I tried. This was the absolute, most unfriendly bartender/ "manager" I have ever encountered running a restaurant or bar. He should be fired. To say he is mean and rude is an understatement. I have never seen anyone act this way with customers in my entire life and I have had some awful service before. He is a complete jerk and downright horrible. not to mention I ordered a vegetarian pizza with basil, but no one ever mentioned that they were out of basil, so I had a cheese and tomato pizza with nothing else, and he didn't think to apologize for the inconvenience. 2.5 Expectations. Yes, it's a chain. Yes, it's located in a shopping mall. Yes, it can be better. In fact, but for our server, this would be a 3.5/4 experience. The food was good and the layout of the restaurant works well with the location. But our server was a real drain on the experience. It's too bad but he definitely colored the experience and the way I think of this location. I was back home for a long weekend in late May and that meant running a variety of errands for and with my mom. During the course of said errands, we wound up at Oxmoor. I knew it was coming. It always does. Since it was a Saturday at lunch time, rather than adding another stop on our errand tour, I thought it might be a good idea to sit for a bit at CPK, grab some lunch and relax. On the whole, CPKs tend to be pretty consistent (this is a good thing). As the novelty of the chain has worn off, I've noticed that HQ has placed a renewed effort on the quality of offerings, portion size and service. All of these improvements make a lot of sense. Coming from a good experience with a new CPK location back home, I knew that they'd stepped up their gluten-free game with the addition of cauliflower crust pizza. Done. My mom was in the mood for a salad. Done. Easy. We thought. Our server showed up to our table nervous and, apparently, in the weeds. He stayed this way throughout our meal. He would dart in and out of table, asking a question and leaving almost immediately after. It was very odd behavior. After the third (maybe I am the slow learner here) pass, I took it upon myself to scramble an order and hope it stuck. Being that I was at a pizza place, if he didn't get my order correct, this would be a bad rest of my day. I crossed my fingers and waited. After a more than decent wait (we were told the kitchen was backed up; mom received her bread with her meal), our waiter brought our food and a refill of our drinks. It was at this point where he spilled iced tea all over my mom. So, yeah. All over: hair, blouse, pants, table, food... everywhere. The response - and this is key - was to panic and leave. No profuse apology. No towels. No new food. No comped meal. He left. Another server, seeing what happened, ran to my mom with: an apology, towels and an offer for new food. This new server checked on us for the remainder of our time at the restaurant. Our server hid. I understand he was embarrassed. I would have been as well. However, his job at this point was to make things right. He did not. It was awkward. It was unpleasant. I enjoyed the taste of my sausage and mushroom pizza but I didn't much have an appetite for it.* My mom picked over her salad but you can guess she wasn't much in the mood. The new server came by three times with towels, napkins and apologies. Had she been our server throughout I am confident of a better, lasting/leaving experience/impression. Unfortunately, she was not our server. We got the bill (nary an item comped), paid and left. I doubt that I'll return. It's too bad. I get it. Things happen. People have bad days. There was a much better way of handling the situation. *I did, however, eat the whole thing because I was HUNGRY but I wolfed it down while feeling like a terrible son. read more
