I'm not big on chain restaurants, but Panera is a solid choice and I used to order from this location frequently when I worked at the bank next-door. Although the place is not bad it's very expensive for what you get as far as food. We ordered a sandwich thinking that it would be larger and when we got it, it was a morsel size lol. The service was good not great but good they were intentive, but they expect you to know where to go when you go into a place that you've been to for the first time and the way the building is set up. It's hard to see unless you're walking around the building. It is cute though cause it does have a nice fireplace that can go on in the winter time, it wasn't on when we went, but it looks like a little cozy area to sit when it's cold. Overall, the experience was good. The food was OK. I say OK because of the price. What genius decided to do away w/ the pagers. Took a while for our order to be taken. Told they would call my name & not using pagers. At least a dozen people milled around waiting for their orders to be filled. We waited a good half an hour. The staff preparing both take out & eat in were overwhelmed. Always have loved their food. The problem now is can I get what I want! Walked in at 7:20 pm. It closes at 9:00 pm. All pastries, bagels, bread and coffee were put away for the night. The pastries were on the table in boxes but you couldn't see what they had available. I ordered soup and coffee and was given the selection of soda, lemonade or iced tea as my beverage. I was lucky she asked if it was for here or to go! As I replied someone from the back yelled, "only to go orders from now on!" I looked at my watch, it was 7:26. Unfortunately my friend got his meal in a bag. They were cleaning the rugs literally around my feet. I felt like I was being rushed out. Amazing service it does suck that in the later hours many items are sold out but makes sense a cook explained to me that because items are made fresh they are typically prepped the night before or early morning and when they run out during their busy hours they dont have the time to make those items. I would prefer my ingredients fresh so its good that they actually practice this! If I wanted a never ending supply of mystery bread or meat I could always go to mcdonalds but I want quality its that simple really ! Clearly the GM and the district manager of this corporate store dont care that the employees all seem like they are annoyed by your presence. Jeff used to be the GM and he ran an outstanding store. It was always clean, the food was on point, and the employees were pleasant. Now even the shift managers are horrible and the food is always presented like someone haphazardly threw it together and the sandwiches are falling apart. First offence was after asking for my tuna sandwich bread to be toasted and having it crushed to death by the panini machine repeatedly. I had to explain the concept of a toaster to the employees. Below see picture of the clearly not even REMOTELY toasted bread below. When I brought this to the attention of the shift manager his response was "I watched it go through the toaster myself. Would you like me to burn it for you?" Apparently there is no median between not toasted at all and burned... Ask for a pickle and you'd think you were asking for an audience with the pope. Audible sighs of disgust. Statements like "umm pickles only come with cold sandwichs," are common. Generally the pastries are all gone by half way though the day. There may be like 1 dried up piece of coffee cake or stale cookie. They're also generally out of roughly half the menu items as well. Forget about the iced tea, it always tastes like coffee. The newest trick is never getting the croutons for the french onion soup, assuming they're not out of it. The last 3 times I've gotten it no croutons. Today I got curbside pickup for my mom because she wanted a strawberry poppyseed salad. I had to go in because the curbside girl never came out after I waited 10 minutes and there was no one else waiting. I asked the girl SPECIFICALLY if the croutons were in there. She told me she put them in herself and I said "you're sure right." With disgust the manager named Nicole, said yes I'm sure. Get home ...no croutons. Now I'm really heated because she acted like I was a pain in the ass and looked me in the eye and lied. So I go back and she seemed ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED with the fact that I came back and said. Well do you want then, cutting me off in mid sentence. Walks away slams 2 bags in my hand. So I get in my car half way though my drive I look at the bags and they STILL aren't croutons, instead I got tortilla strips. I'm 12 hours removed from this experience and it's still annoying me. I just went home and gave up at that point. If the manager Nicole can't get a bag of croutons right on 2 attempts she shouldn't even be working there. I told her as I was leaving that this is the 3rd consecutive time this happened and I was going to call corporate, her response was "okay," and she walked away. I did call corporate and even though it took me 45 minutes to get a person on the phone he was very nice and sincerely apologetic. He said that my experience would be forwarded to both the GM and the district manager. Maybe the district manager can do something about this disgracefully run store because clearly the GM dosen't care. Time to fire the entire staff shutdown for a month and start over with people who at least attempt to act like they give a shit. There is not one respectful employee in there. read more

What the #$&! has happened to Panera? I think it's safe to say there's no other food place in the area we've patronized more than this Panera. And like a frog getting gradually boiled in the water, we've tolerated a steady but seemingly inexorable decline in quality at this location. It's a mixture of indifferent preparation, cattle-like handling at the ordering desk, and wildly erratic wait times. Today, I realized the water was boiling and now I'm leaping out and away from this Panera, maybe from Paneras in general. There were about three patrons in the place, and still the order took over 15 minutes. Strike one. One item was cold - not great for a toasted bagel. Another I bit into, kind of desperately hungry at this point, and realized it had a meat on it I DO NOT EAT AND DID NOT ORDER. Strike two. I took it back to the counter, and asked if they could remake it. Did I peer out of my eye them taking the offending meat off the item and then attempting to recycle that same item? Yes I did. Strike three. Then I went to ask for a refund, and had to wait another five minutes for the manager to come authorize it. Strike four. And then they wouldn't refund me the whole meal, because I'd drunk some of the (yes, lukewarm) coffee I'd ordered. Strike five. My misery with this is over. Are you noticing, Panera management? I on the other hand had a much larger concern: the character of this establishment's employees. The woman at the cash register was miserable! There was already a long line of customers waiting for their meals. Behind the counter was only one employee fixing the dishes. I'm still not on the whole Panera bandwagon. It's a more expensive Dunkin' Donuts with slightly better ingredients, wifi and fewer sweets? Is it the Starbucks of Subways? I don't know. What I do know is that the egg and cheese sandwich felt like some industrially produced product. And when I was there a recent Sunday it was difficult to find a clean empty table. There were plenty of empty tables, but many of them could have used a wipe down. We also sat down near the food production station, where whoever was making sandwiches, pushed an entire loaf of sliced bread off the shelf where it spilled onto the adjoining table. Accidents happen. And I'm glad I wasn't sitting there with my hot coffee next to my laptop. But nobody came out from behind the line to make sure nobody was soiled. Nobody even came out from behind the line to clean up the mess. There the bread stood. And it sat. And sat. And sat. Until ultimately some manager noticed it and thankfully threw it all away. Honestly I had trouble deciding if my experience here was even worth two stars. I'm shocked because I am an avid fan of Panera and go here whenever I need a light dinner. A few friends and I went for lunch around 12:00PM. The line was to the door (as expected) so we used the self serve kiosks. I did two orders, one for sit down service and a second to go. My sit down order was a Chipotle Chicken Panini with a half Greek Salad. My to go order, simply a bowl of French Onion soup. We all then sat down at a table and waited for our order. Flash forward to 12:40PM. We're all still waiting for our food and I'm watching my name on the to go list be at a standstill. 40 minutes? For soup? We finally got our food at 12:42PM and I was extremely disappointed. My panini bread was soggy and every time I picked it up it went limp and the filling spilled out. My friend ordered chicken noodle soup which came out ice cold and our salads had minimal toppings on them. The few crumbles of feta I received were carelessly tossed into my bowl, a few were split onto the tray. After inhaling our food cause we had to get back to work my name finally started moving on the to go list. Finally at 12:57PM my soup had arrived. I got a "Sorry for the wait" as it was handed to me, but I just grabbed it and left. I wanted to get out as soon as I could. Overall the food was soggy and cold and the service was some of the worst I received. I'm hoping this was just an off day or they were backlogged with orders. I want to like you Panera, I really do. I had a wonderful mushroom onion asparagus and smoked pepper jack frittata. No, this isn't on the menu, so you can't get it at Panera. Even if it was on the menu, they would be out of them. Just like the soufflé I showed up for. I drove to Panera and left empty handed once again since they never have what I go in for! So I drove back home and cooked my own breakfast. This is about the 6th time I went for a breakfast soufflé -during breakfast hours- and they didn't have any. I got one once, and it wasn't even the one I wanted. I like panera. I have visited numerous Panera restaurants throughout the years. I think they're a little more pricey than other places but the company does so much good and donated so many of their products I am always fine paying the extra dollar or two. Panera has my absolute favorite bagel! Cinnamon crunch. I like it toasted, cold, with butter, with cream cheese and with nothing. This bagel is good. This restaurant has 3 stars because I wasnt in love with the Schenectady location. I asked for my food to sit down and they packed it to go which isnt a huge deal but I had a smaller portion then my friends who actually got their meal sitting down. This just wasnt my favorite location but I will just be going to other locations in the future. read more

Very disappointing. I had placed - and paid for - an online order Wednesday evening for pickup Thursday afternoon. The order was nowhere to be found. Staff was indifferent, slow and unhelpful. It appeared the order was never processed or prepared, and they were unable to fulfill it at the designated pickup time. Eventually talked to a manager who had just come on shift and was unable to help. She stated that this was the 4th order that day that she knew of that was never processed. Came in early and still waited a few minutes to be greeted, despite being the only patrons there. Asked for double egg whites, no egg- for which we were charged- and instead received extra white on egg (so much for double checking on the no yolk). This Panera is the worst, two weekends in a row I ordered a grain bowl for pickup and they forgot one of the major ingredients. The second time I opened the container to check, went over to the counter and said you forgot the hummus. The girl behind the counter said oh we'll kill them and rolled her eyes as she added a scoop of hummus. I didn't customize the bowl it was the standard product on the menu apparently they don't have any quality control. Went in with my hubby last night and ordered the same thing, oops they forgot the Greek olives. Also they got rid of table delivery and didn't mention that to us when we ordered. I don't know if this is a new thing at just this location or is happening across all Panera's. This lot had screwed up my orders a few times in the past but to support local businesses during the Covid crisis we decided to use them again and have the food delivered. No problems for a while but tonight they screwed the delivery. We got a text it had been delivered. No food. Food was still at the restaurant. They blamed the delivery service not Panera of course. They would not make it right and told us to contact their Corporate Office to get a refund. I put a hold on the charge. Other Paneras are Ok but this one you should AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! read more

Between the snarky employees, the elf-like portions and constantly being "out" of items during peak times, this has to be the worst run store in the Capital Region. Only a week ago, I came in a 8:00AM for a breakfast ring to be told it was my own fault for not calling ahead, surely not theirs for only making 2 that morning that someone bought before me. Take out orders are incorrect, sandwiches are always missing items or so tiny, you are still hungry after eating. Today, Mother's Day at 9am, and the store is virtually EMPTY of product. No one anticipated there might be a high demand and so more product should be available? What a fiasco. Love Panera's menu! Their mac and cheese is so good! if you are on a 600 calorie or less diet, you can order a big salad and a good sized bowl of chicken noodle soup and stay well within the bounds of the 600 cals. Just don't add the unnecessary bread carbs. Get the apple instead of the bread or chips. :) read more
