I have been to this Panera many times, so it's time for a review...this store is located next to the Shaw's grocery store that we shop at every week. The restaurant has some patio seating as well as a smaller inside dining area. They have their flavored lemonades as well as their traditional baked goods, sandwiches and salads. Those lemonades for about $4 each are a bit pricey, but the flavors are fun and refreshing. Ordering via the mobile app was easy. Some of the rudest staff I've ever encountered. By far, this is the worst Panera location in all of New England. Let me paint the scene for you: I walked in with the noble goal of ordering a simple broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl nothing outrageous. As I approached the counter, the cashier didn't greet me. Instead, she glared at me like I had personally insulted her grandmother. I asked, politely, if they were still serving soup. Her response? A single word "Obviously" followed by the slowest, most exaggerated eye roll I've ever witnessed outside of a soap opera. But it didn't stop there. I ordered a green tea. The barista threw the cup on the counter so hard it bounced, and when I asked if I could please have a lid, she sighed like I'd asked her to rewrite the Magna Carta. Another staff member nearby whispered under her breath, "He looks like a lid kinda guy," followed by laughter. What does that even mean? Then brace yourself my buzzer went off, so I went up to grab my food. The manager, who looked like she was on her third existential crisis of the morning, yeeted the entire tray onto the pickup counter and yelled, "WHO ORDERED THE BASIC?" Everyone turned to look. I was the only one there. The sandwich was wrong, the soup was cold, and the bread bowl looked like it had been hollowed out by a raccoon with anger issues. When I politely asked for a new one, they handed me a raw baguette and told me to "figure it out." Not sure why the low reviews for this panera. We stopped in to use our Sip Club membership before dinner reservations nearby. Would have been five stars from me except they do not have a drive-thru which was a bummer. To be fair it's located in a shopping center so I'm not sure how they would have been able to do that though. It did look like they offered curbside. We got two large Diet Pepsi to go so I can't speak to the quality of the food here but the restaurant overall was clean and tidy. read more

Love their autumn squash soup!! Wish they offered some GF options, especially being they have bread/bakery options. I also wish they had "healthier" bakery options. Unfortunately, the location in Charlotte/Ballantyne is not great. Always an issue, not very clean, food volume lacking on sandwiches (sandwich/bread ratio way off) and bathrooms are almost always dirty. They also use dirty towels to wipe down tables. One of my bigg at issues is with Panera as a whole....their advertisement of "clean" food is deceptive!! They present as a "healthy" choice, but if you look at their ingredients, it is not healthy by any means!! Lots of unnecessary ingredients, like sugar, etc. Wish they would use more spices, herbs, and honey as a sweetener rather than sugar and other junk. Same goes with their drinks choices (back off the sugar). I just feel such an approach would be more on brand with their advertisement. read more

Picked up order which I ordered ahead and drove home. No chips for either of my sandwiches were in the bag. I called to complain and manager told me they had been slammed all day but when I walked in there were two girls waiting to order and my order was ready. Was told I would get a credit to my form of payment (PayPal) but that didn't happen either. Will find another local place to get sandwiches in the future since this isn't the first time my chips have not been included with my order. read more

Panera Bread is a magical place!!! The ambiance is comparable to that of Disney world. It is the perfect place to gossip and laugh with friends, some of my best memories are here. The smoothies are delish and so are the mac and cheese and grilled cheese. I love a good you pick two!!! Whenever I am in search of some comfort after a hard day, I just pop into Panera and all of my problems float away. The seasonal sugar cookies are always a special treat too. My one issue with Panera is their removal of the charged lemonade from their menu. I think about it often and sometimes cry at night due to my grief of the drink. read more

I placed a to go order at Wakefield RI location. They said it would be ready in an Hour. Fine. Long story short, I had to wait an extra half hour even though it was not busy at all; it was empty. Panera is just about the best fast food you can get. I often go to the Wakefield branch, but I also frequent the East Greenwich location and the Newport one. I am reviewing specifically the Wakefield location: The cashiers are friendly and I enjoy chatting with them. You can order online ahead of time, which is quite convenient. I also like that Panera offers blueberry bagels. For some reason, that flavor of bagel is nearly impossible to find everywhere else - even in supermarkets. But Panera has them. For some reason, Panera got rid of all bottled/canned beverages that they used to carry, such as regular bottled water, and flavored carbonated water (like San Pellegrino or Spindrift) - much to my dismay. I don't know yet if it's all Panera branches, or just the Wakefield one that is doing this. The reason for doing this was never explained, but now you're forced to drink only beverages made at Panera such as the coffee and tea and the colored "tea" beverages in the dispensers. *One more thing*: Check your order when you get it. The Wakefield branch in particular has a real knack for forgetting items in my order nearly Every. Single. Time. So I always double check my order when I receive it to make sure I got every single food item I paid for. I'm hoping this particular branch will renovate soon. The interior looks somewhat rundown. I ordered a smoothie and my friend ordered a meal and a fountain drink. My friend was able to get her meal and drink and finish it while I was waiting. Totally understand that orders sometimes get forgotten but even after I asked about my order I had to wait an additional ten minutes and then when my friend said something along the lines of "my friend has been waiting over twenty minutes for a drink, respectfully, when can we expect it to be done?" and we were met with "um, it's right there" in an exasperated tone. When looking to where the employee was referring to, it was on a counter that customers do not have access to since it's in the kitchen area. Very disappointed!! I love Panera. The food is always delicious. But today I am so less than impressed. I order a Napa Chicken salad sandwich and a Mac and Cheese. The sand which wasn't even in the wrapper, it was just tossed in the bag. Mac and cheese was Luke warm. I SPECIFICALLY posted NO TOMATOES. Nope. $50 for two adults and four children, are you serious? You seat, serve, and clean up after yourself. Mind you my nephew's and my boys got one kid sized sandwich, one tiny cup of kid's mac n cheese, and two cups of soup total. I had the pick 2 combo, half a sandwich and half a salad. My sister got a normal sized sandwich and cup of soup. Three chocolate milks (tiny boxes), one juice box and one small soda. So it was... 3 Cups of soup Half kid sandwich (tiny portion) Cup kid's mac n cheese (tiny portion) Half panini w/half a salad Full size panini - 3 Milk boxes (tiny) 1 Soda (small) - Two of the meals came with chips, and we had $3.96 in cookies (upsells) Seriously $50 for that amount of food! I'd understand if it were a full service restaurant with regular portions, not even close though. To top it off I ordered the smokehouse turkey panini which the menu said came with bacon and three cheeses. It did not mention the disgusting overwhelming, overpowering, piled on mustard seed sauce that the sandwich was completely smothered in. That's something you might want to mention on the menu. I would have asked for it without the sauce had I known. I did my best to scrape what I could off of it and ate a few bites of the sandwich. The salad was very good but I had no idea it came with dressing, again, would have been good to know. I did like the dressing so I'm not complaining. My sister had the same sandwich and had the exact same complaint. Now I'm not a picky eater and usually enjoy different things, this sandwich was just wasn't edible. I don't know if Joe or Jane Schmoe in the back was just trying to see exactly how much nasty mustard seed sauce s/he could pile on the sandwich or what, but seriously Panera mention the sauce on your menu. If you are ever feeling famished, and stumble across this Panera Bread location, turn around. This is a horrible location. Firstly, every single time I go there and order a sandwich, they are out of the specialized bread for that particular sandwich. It's the same thing. Every. Single. Time. I've come to call this place 'Panera we have no Bread'. A typical exchange at this location follows. Me: "I'll have the Asiago steak." Cashier: "Okay. But we're out of the bread." Me: "OK, I'll have the Italian Combo instead." Cashier: "Okay. But... We just ran out of the Ciabatta." Me: "OK. What breads do you actually have?" Cashier: "Hmmm. I think we may have an exotic loaf of Wonder bread in the back." My second gripe is with their soups. I enjoy the soups at most Panera Bread locations. But not at this one. I have gotten soup at this location on more than one occasion, and it has been watered down. Instead of telling the customers they ran out of soup, they'd rather water it down instead and hope I don't notice. Unfortunately for them, I have taste buds, so can't fool me. It's too bad they can't add water to their breads when they're running low, they'd be all set. I urge you not to go to this Panera Bread. I was sure I would find something to eat here. There was such a big selection of soufles, bagels, spreads, artisan breads, lower-carb breads, baked goods (delicious looking cookies, brownies, muffins, etc.),exotic and the usaul salads, signature sandwiches on tuscan bread, (like the Tuscan Chicken on Rosemary& Onion Focacia). Hot Pannini, soups, Crispani (Hancrafted pizza with all-natural toppings), sides and yunmmy beverages, I.C. Beverages, like I.C. Caramel - which is creamy caramel and icy espresso, topped with whipped cream, chilled beverages, including chai tea lattes and other regular choices, like your usual espressos, and Jones sodas. I had a difficult time chosing and decided to come back to sample the after 4PM special, which is any pizza with any small salad. The pizza was delicious, thin-crusted but very small. I got the Tomato and Fresh Basil for $6.99 and a side salad of Grilled Bistro Steak Ceasar fr $3.59. The prices were gentle, but considering that the salad was teeny-tiny, with only a small amount of steak, and that the pizza was really a child's portion, this 'special' did not give me a real value or an idea of what their food is really like. It left me starving and I had to eat again, somewhere else, I forget where. But, to be fair, tI saw other people ordering huge chicken ceasar salads which looked huge and delicious, and I wish I had ordered that with one of their soups. Each day the soup is different. I will give them another try, since there are very few places in Wakefield that have fast but good food (and although I will eat MacDonalds, I try not to make it a habit). Also, except for the fact that Panera bread makes some breads I could not duplicate, like the Asiago cheese loaf, (and many others). tjhere is really nothing on this menu that I personally could not duplicate in my own kitchen, and control the ingredients and portions to my own liking. This place is very upscale, but 'its not all that.' Sounds complicated to most palates, but for me its just another '30 Minute Meal' - and some of them are less than that to make, if you keep your pantry well-stocked, like me. I would eat here if I worked in the area....but since this is my summer get away place, I want to eat something authentic to the area, or make it myself. Dear Panera management. Please heed these lousy reviews for this location. I clearly should have. Instead, I decided to risk it and patronize this very poorly reviewed location regardless, only to get a Sierra Turkey Sandwich that was sloppy, very over-sauced and missing the field greens entirely. The really bad part was the serious lack of turkey. Compared to all other locations in this chain, and how they make this sandwich, you would be shocked if you got what I received as it was clearly intentionally skimped on all ingredients (except the sauce - gross). It was obviously a seriously reduced portion of turkey. For $8+ I expect far more. If the majority of people who have patronized this location say there is something wrong with your restaurant, then clearly there's something worth investigating before you drive all your remaining business away. This location is my favorite in RI so far. I almost always use the Panera app to order ahead. Later in the day they do tend to run out of some of the breads, most commonly the tomato basil. Their pick 2 options allow for many combinations. My food has almost always been spot on. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. On the app you can personalize how you want your food, ex if you want a different bread, cheese, extra mayo etc etc. The soups are good too. I've always been satisfied with their food and staff. read more

Normally I will rate a Panera a solid 4-stars.. However, this Panera is one of the worst I've ever visited. The food was still the same (hence the 2-stars) however as we all know the experience isn't just with the food. It's also with the staff...SLOW / SLOW / SLOW There has never been a time my wife or the both of us have visited where the service hasn't been as s l o w as a turtle! And while "slow and steady wins the race" it's definitely NOT something that one want's when passing through an establishment. Our most recent experience went something like this... After the usual Panera greeting my wife and i ordered our food. I noticed they had a lobster sandwich (which was OK and yes real but $$$16.99!!! I can get a whole lobster for that price...but..) that peaked my interest.. After placing half of our order we were asked to repeat it.. then the option for my lobster sandwich wasn't available for the "you-pick-2" option, although i was told it was by the cashier.. not that it mattered because it wasn't available for her to select to even place the order. We then watch a short version of the 2-stooges show as the cashiers were confused and joked amongst themselves trying to figure out why the NEW lobster sandwich was available on one unit but not the other. My wife finally suggested that we shift over to the other cashier to complete our order and move on with our lives. Now shifted over we once again placed our order (3rd time now) and was asked to step over to their drink service area (of which I was waiting on ONE lemonade). The cashier from the initial order came over to fill our drink but forgot to get my lemonade and got the next guests instead. I asked for my lemonade and after apologizing she asked me if i wanted on that seemed to be left over from their "lunch crowd" - Negative! after explaining that i didn't want lemonade that was left sitting around with ice half melted she handed me a fresh one. Now had it of been lunch time and a rush i would have had no issue as they would have been fresh...however this was well after lunch.. i digress.. our food was prepared and packaged as per the usual take out specifications and we thankfully left.. While this ONE experience has not spoiled me on Panera Bread it's self, it has spoiled me on this location.. If they could only speed up the process and learn the product/location of said product it'd help out a lot. read more

My friend and I visit this Panera Bread location pretty frequently because we are graduate students in the area and it is a nice, comfortable area for us to study, but the food and service are basically hit or miss depending on the day of the week. Let me put it this way... There is one young woman who works there, and I WISH that I knew her name for sure (I believe it is Elizabeth and I remember her name tag saying something about being a trainer), who is absolutely wonderful. She is a younger girl with glasses. She always greets the guests with a positive attitude, a smile, and delivers excellent customer service. She is speedy on the register, always gets my order right, makes sure everything is perfect, and even makes sure you are satisfied later on in the meal. My friend and I spend an extended amount of time in the restaurant throughout the day, and she even remembers our names for when we go back up to the register to re-order, with the same positive attitude as when we came in. When we order our lattes, she makes sure they are in warm mugs. She always makes sure she repeats our orders backs to us to make sure she got it all. I could go on and on about how wonderful of a worker she is. I wish I had bumped into a manager the last time I was there to tell them how lucky they are to have her. Now, the last time I was there (Friday), it was a completely different story. I have worked in the food and restaurant business for years and I know all about customer service. The two women working the registers (Becka and Karen, according to their name tags) do NOT have it. I don't know if they were being rude because my friend and I are young, college students, and they may or may not have bad experiences with URI students in the area or what, but they did not pay any attention to us or give us any respect as customers, whatsoever. While we were trying to place our breakfast orders, they were having a conversation over us, and had to keep asking us to repeat our order. Then, when we ordered our lattes, they went back and forth about who was going to make them. They did not ask us if we wanted to have them for there or to go. They did not take our name, and did not even call out when they were ready. Then, when my friend and I went back up to the counter to see, there were 2 to-go cups sitting there, with a completely different slip with someone else's name. I waited and waited to ask if they were ours to take, but no one was even behind the counter for me to ask, so I just assumed they were mine. I took them back to my table and they barely hot enough. When I took off the lid, they were only about 3/4 of the way full, too. Very disappointing, especially for the prices you pay too. My friend and I went back up for round 2 around lunch time later in the day, and Becka was the cashier again. We ordered 2 different salads, and I asked for bread as my side. When I went to pick up my food, I was given chips. When I asked for it to be corrected, the girl at the food station rolled her eyes at me! What kind of customer service is that? It is very disappointing when service is inconsistent like this, and hopefully management will be able to figure something out to increase their staff's customer service skills. This Panera Bread is a nice spot in the Wakefield Mall to sit, eat, WiFi or wait for someone or an appointment. The "dining room" has a few alcoves if you'd like to hide and a nice array of booths and tables in different sizes. The warm colors that all Panera's are typically decorated in are comforting to me. I like the homey style yet cafeteria service there. I don't have to develop a relationship albeit temporary of a waitress when I'm distracted and incomprehensible. The food is good. Bread bowl and broccoli cheese soup. Starch from carbohydrate heaven, this place serves it up sweet or savory. The panini are delicious, the pastries are usually fine. The salads are nice too. Don't be fooled though. The sandwiches and salads aren't as large as the pictures would lead you to believe. They are too expensive in my opinion. It's a freaking sandwich not a entree, salad, starch and vegetable. This is a glorified cafeteria. They have "specials" wherein they change a sandwich or add on a different type of sandwich like the now popular cuban panini or Thai salad. Honestly, you could look at the menu or take home a take out menu and assemble your own at home. The bread has a good tooth to it. Very solid and inoffensive. The pastries are not so light to seem to be overly processed. The servers are polite, I've never had a rude one. Of course lunch and dinner time is busy, expect that. For a place like this I've written too much. This is the Starbuck's of sandwich places. Except I hate Starbucks coffee and Panera's food is good. They have catering and they had delivery for a while, I don't know if they still do though. read more
