okay so the views here are ridonkulously amazing....like so freaking amazing that when I saw the views I started kicking myself for not having found it sooner because I would have sooo tried to convince somebody to let me have my wedding up there. I ate breakfast here and while the egg, tomato, avocado sandwich was just ok, the view of Disney Concert Hall was amazing. I would come back to this restaurant just to take in the view. There is an absolutely huge patio with a few tables for you to choose from that are lined up against the building. On the other side of the restaurant is a smokers patio with a view of Grand Park. You do not have to have courthouse business in order to eat here, it is open to anyone who is hungry. It's on the 9th floor and I recommend taking the escalator to get there as the elevator can sometimes take a very long time. As I only ate here once I can't talk about the rest of the menu but truly, the view is so spectacular you won't mind if the food is mediocre. I've been coming to the Stanley Mosk courthouse for years now and only recently discovered this cafe. While in a lengthy trial this August, I got tired of the places around the court house and decided to give this place a try. It's conveniently located on the 8th floor and is huge. There is an amazing selection of lunch foods-including a classic American Grill, a sushi station with daily specials, and various other daily specials at all of the various food stations. It's set up a like a cafeteria, so there's never too long of a line to get your food. Most of it is made to order and tastes super fresh. I also ate breakfast here one day, and the breakfast burrito was very good (and portions are HUGE)! If you happen to be stuck in court during lunch time, check it out. read more

I think it's quite silly that I went thru security just to check this place out. I just couldn't resist the idea of having the nice view of dtla. Things I would do for picture opps... I am just a helpless romantic I guess. I stumbled upon this place last year when I was yelping for a lunch place in dtla. I never got the chance to go until this past october when I happened to be in downtown waiting for my friend to get off work. After getting up the courage of going thru security with all my bags (as I was traveling back to LA from NC), I walked down the hallway tried to look casual. It was close to closing time by the time I got there. The cashier was restocking chips already. However he was super nice about me ordering food. He went to the kitchen and asked what they can still serve me. I didn't really have much choices since the kitchen was in the process of cleaning up already. I got the lunch special for that day which was the chicken taco. It was good after I pick out all the cilantro (I am just not a fan of the herbs...) If you got jury duty here, at least you are better than those who are stuck with disgusting fast food without the view of downtown! I really enjoy the view from here. Though I still think I am silly for making the trip there. It would definitely be more fun if I had a friend with me. read more

This has to be the best kept secret to DTLA if you want a low cost meal with a million dollar view. WOW the name doesn't lie. Views in every direction of DTLA... look north and glimpse Dodger Stadium, look west and you have a perfect view of the Disney concert hall, south you have the DTLA skyline, and east you have a historic buildings like the LA Times. Enter the courhouse on the westside of the building on temple rather than the hill entrance and take the elevators the 9th floor. It's a modern day cafeteria that puts your traditional court/hospital ideas of food to shame. I tried their turkey holiday meal which was comprised of tender roasted turkey breast, thick brown gravy with mashed potatos, and tart cranberry dressing. Aside from the daily special, they have fresh made sushi rolls, outstanding burgers, fresh salads and cut fruit, and snacks galore. All the prices are very reasonable for DTLA. Although I was there for lunch, they also have serve breakfast and have a huge selection for that as well. It's run by a friendly couple that seems to really get to know the regulars, and moves the lunchtime lines along fairly quickly. Do yourself a favor, next time you're in court go to Panorama Cafe, or better yet if you're like me and work in the area bypass the expensive DTLA lunch spots and take yourself to the courthouse. Sure you have to go thru the metal detectors, but you will be rewarded by a very budget friendly lunch, incredible selection, and views that will blow you away. read more

A very pleasant surprise. At first glance, you'd expect mediocre cafeteria food. No! Over the course of my jury duty, I had a tuna melt with cranberries, a turkey melt with artichokes and a God-tier beef burrito. That bad boy was stuffed with goodness, and the lady that prepared it wrapped so well that nary a bit of juice or food dripped out. Expert work....and that kinda thing matters in a burrito. Service was unusually friendly, considering the general antagonism in the air at a courthouse. Really nice people. The only knock is that the whole thing was a little pricy. But then, a lot of places downtown are pricy and maybe that just reflects the budgets of their clientele. It is what it is. So if you get called on a jury, fear not. A friend was visiting from out of town and wanted to see the sights of the city, and is a big fan of Frank Gehry so we had to stop by and check out the Disney Concert Hall. It was about 1pm and we hadn't eaten yet so I pulled up yelp to find something quick and nearby and low and behold I found the listing for this little gem located in the Los Angeles Superior Court building. While it was a bit intimidating to go into a courthouse for lunch, the promise of a wonderful view and cheap lunch drew me in and I was starving. When you step inside, you're immediately greeted by a clean, modern looking cafe - much nicer than any office building cafeteria's that I've been to. I am always looking for a few things - a place that doesn't feel like it's from 1980, good variety of food, and a nice environment to sit and eat. While it was a bit past 1 and there was quite a line, but there was still a decent selection of salads and things available. The menu was pretty diverse and I wasn't in a sandwich or salad mood and wanted something more so when I read a review that said they had sushi rolls it was a bonus. I'm usually very picky about my sushi but do appreciate a sushi roll now and then and Panorama did not disappoint! I had a lobster roll and it compared favorably to the abundance of restaurants that had rolls on the westside, but for less $$$! The wait was a bit long and I was hungry, but the combination of the company I had, and scoping to grab a table outside kept me busy. Once the food came, it was fresh (didn't taste like lukewarm, premade sushi) and my friends salad was great too. As for the view, they have a beautiful patio setup with amazing views of the concert hall which my friend thoroughly enjoyed. While she discussed intricacies of the architecture I enjoyed my sushi roll with my sunglasses on and just took in the cityscape. It was a good day. Would I go back? If I'm in the area...definitely. I'm a sucker for mom and pop shops and love to recommend them to my friends. I'm rarely in the area though so I'll just have to recommend it to those visiting who want a relatively cheap bite to eat, or just want to relax and take in a great view. Go on a nice day, you won't regret it...and bring some sunglasses - the reflection off the concert hall can be bright. read more

This place was like a hidden gem for the day. I mean, going to jury duty and just sitting there is not the greatest, but after reading some reviews on yelp, I found my lunch spot. The staff is absolutely wonderful. It took me forever to check into yelp because my phone was spazzing out on me but they still gave me the free drink per yelp check-in and took my word for it. There was this Asian guy who was super nice and engaging (when I was still trying to decide on what I wanted) and some other people behind another counter ok-ed whatever I asked them to give me (of course pricing was a little different but they made it work). I unfortunately had to take a way one star because of how much food was offered. I was originally looking at the fruits and salad bar but before I could make up my mind, all the fruits were gone (I took a walk around the room to see all the options I had for the day)! I know i know, it was partially my fault for being so slow and there weren't many fruit bowls to begin with, but maybe they were packaging more but it was too slow? Anyway, I settled for the lentil soup and a side salad and was extremely pleased. I believe the total came out to be $5-$6; very reasonably priced As for the view, I did not have a chance to go outside and enjoy it since it was a rather cloudy day; maybe next time I'm in the area. read more

Half asleep as a summoned juror, I headed here for a pastrami sandwich after seeing a photo on yelp. Asking the staff about it, I learned that was probably a special for the day and wasn't available today, but today's special is two swai fish tacos. After a tour of all the options, there are many, I decided on the fish tacos. The welcoming gal was very friendly and so was the guy working at the grill station. I got my order and walked up to the cashier who was also very friendly. By then I was feeling awake with all the energy that the workers here greet their customers! The fish tacos were delicious -- a generous portion of moist and well seasoned swai fillets topped with a mild but tasty sauce and crisp cabbage. Great for the price! The view on a clear day would be amazing, but even with a mild haze, the downtown sky scrapers are clearly visible as a relaxing view. This is definitely a place I recommend for jurors or business travelers in the area. It is cafeteria style, so not the most pleasant seating situation for vacationers. Oh, the friendliness continued as I walked out... cashier guy wishing a great day, grill station guy asking how were the tacos, and the welcoming gal also checking that I enjoyed my meal. I have eaten there, but only in times of desperation - and it's expensive (and it shouldn't be). The food is average. I have never thought, "That was so good, I need to have that again." One of the best courtroom cafeterias I've ever been to. Their selection of pre-packaged salads and sandwiches are great! Healthy and hip! Mango curry chicken sandwich, strawberry chicken salad, kale lentil soup, and so on. Sometimes they have sushi rolls as well. Always freshly prepared and made from scrach. The service is outstanding. People are always welcomed with a cheerful greeting and smile. It is located on the top floor of the courthouse. While you are there, go outside and enjoy the view of dtla. read more

Other Yelpers are quite on the dot about the lobster roll, its quite good! Also commonly known as the volcano roll in most other sushi joints, this one is quite cheap compared to Japanese restaurants. The cafe is only a block away from Clara Shortridge Court so lunch does not have to be rushed at all while doing jury duty. Minus 1 star for the slow moving line for getting food and for paying. There's only 2 cashiers working the line, they should have at least 1 more so the line can move faster. And I wish they can streamline the whole getting food process or have more signs near the door directing ppl to the different areas of food. A lot of ppl in front were waiting in line for their food to be prepared so it created a bottleneck for ppl in the back of line who wanted other stuff. read more

I've been to many courthouses and was pleasantly surprised about the options and quality of food here! There were numerous healthy options for salad, sandwiches, fruit, granola bars and chips. There also was some good looking prepared food like mexican and breakfast stuff. The employees are extremely friendly. There's a lot of seating, plugs for cords, and free wireless. I had the turkey Cobb salad and it was really good! The blue cheese surprised me as it tasted like the real deal and not the sad cheese crumbles I expected. read more

I wish I can give negative stars but I have to at least give 1 to write a review. I went today to order a side salad literally lettuce and a few pieces of kale and the ridiculously charge 4.45 plus tax is 4.87 a few months ago I would order the same thing for 2.85 including tax. The quality is not so great here. It's crazy that owners think by charging high cost is ok since they think all customers are lawyers yet people who come here are fighting eviction, losing they're children, getting a divorce or here for jury duty service. I dropped by cuz it was close and reasonable rating on yelp. Wow. Curry chicken salad sandwich was moist and flavorful. The wild rice vege salad was a great side. The tang in the dressing and freshness of the salad was a nice counterpoint to my curry chicken salad sandwich. Pretty typical layout for a cafeteria. You get in one of two lines and either order hot food (nice range of choices) or grab a ready made item. Reasonable cost too. I then ate outside on 9th floor overlooking Los Angeles. Very nice find ! Update: I got the Tuesday special (pulled pork) and it was pretty good. I should also mention the staff is pretty friendly. Added one star A safe bet for Jurors without having to go offsiteu. It's fairly quick and they have grab and go options too. So far the food was nothing special but I'd rate it higher than some of the other reviews here. However this place is run in a bit of a chaos - there were a lot of people that had no idea where to go or how to form a line to order anything besides the daily special. Even at the cashier there were three registers but only two lines so when the one in the middle called next it was a staring contest to see which person would go. Lots of people squeezing between each other to go back and forth between the food lines and the cashier lines. Nice outdoor seating (though limited) as others mentioned, and less expensive than the food trucks in Grand Park for about the same quality, perhaps less variety. I wasn't feeling the Monday special (curry) so I just got a bacon cheeseburger. I'll try the other specials this week and update the review. read more

First time here in over a month very disappointed to see that Mexican food is permanently off the menu. Only two entrées today chicken teriyaki or Greek chicken something or other Neither looked appealing. It was always a line at the Mexican food and cannot understand why they would get rid of a whole group of food burritos. Pain in the ass to get to, and ignore what the hours say - even though they're 'open', the grill closes at 1.30pm. Which translates to a security check, a walk through the wonderful sight of people queued up for small claims court and the like, then a ride to the ninth floor in a freight elevator - all for the opportunity to choose which flavor of Pringles you want in a room that looks like a Cold War 70s movie set. I ordered a beef Tostada it would have been good if the Shell wasn't stale, old and chewy. The breakfast here are just okay, I stopped getting scrambled eggs because they are always over cooked. There aren't many options for hot food around the courthouse, except on certain days the food trucks are available, twice a week I believe. The service in the cafeteria is not good specifically in the morning. They are extremely slow but generally nice and friendly. The staff in the afternoon is not friendly at all but I suppose it's the lunch hour rush. read more

I went here due to a push notification by Yelp while browsing for some place to eat for lunch while serving on jury duty. The best thing about this place is the scenery from the patio. Since it's a shorter building than most in DTLA, you can find better views but those buildings tend to be in private hands. I believe you can get better views from City Hall on the 26th floor, if I remember correctly. The food was average. Service was good. Friendly and efficient staff to move the folks along. Fifty five years ago, my father took me here on a little outing. I started eating here when it was called the Top of the Court. Cafeteria style with a chef, the food is good and so it the coffee. The tables havent changed in generations. The silver has gone away and so have the plates and the dishwasher. But I will always stop here before or after court for coffee or lunch. Most of the clientele are attorneys and their clients. There are conference rooms available. The view is fantastic especially after snow fall. read more

Trekked up from City Hall on Tuesday for lunch only to discover an above-average cafeteria. The burrito I ate was filling but neither remarkable (it had a vague taste of lard) nor cheap (7.48 plus tax). Contrary to the impression left by other reviewers, you do not get a great view if you eat inside the cafeteria. The view requires that you go to one of the two outdoor balconies, which means winding your way back to the entrance once you have purchased your food. Moreover, the boxy, modernist design of the balcony makes for an unimpressive viewing space (and the northerly view I had, which faces the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, wasn't spectacular). If I worked in the courthouse I would probably eat here a fair deal. But this venue is certainly not worth a grueling .3-mile trek up the hill. Anyone based close to City Hall can get better Burritos for a similar price at Senor Fish or the Grand Central Market. read more

This place is a Civic Center hidden gem. The view alone is worth the trip - great views of Bunker Hill, the Downtown LA skyline, Disney Hall, and Grand Park. Panorama Cafe is located in the Stanley Mosk Courthouse on the 9th floor. The cafe has plenty of seating (both indoor and out), reasonable prices, and a rotating menu. Man do I regret not going to Burker King and getting my double crossanwhich! Stay away, at least for breakfast, from this place, or suffer the consequences a few hours later. I found myself here for court waiting for my lawyer and needed to kill some time, and this is what happened: Food: I ordered a breakfast burrito special with Churizo with everything which included cheese, onions, egg, and some spices wrapped in a 12" tortilla. I wanted half bacon half Churizo, but the cook informed me they do not offer half and half, I would have to pay for an upgrade. The food was obviously fresh because it is made to order, so I sat down starving and excited. When I am hungry it is very hard for anything to taste bad to me, but on the first bite I thought YUCK, and I love Churizo. The eggs were overcooked and tasted of low quality, like what you get from the 99 cent store. There was barely any cheese, and the churizo was only in small clumps, rather than being cooked into all the egg as it normally should be. The onions were clumped together as well rather than being spread throughout the burrito, and as for cheese - WHAT CHEESE ?! !! I still plugged my nose and suffered through eating most of it, trying not to gag. Three hours later I was running for the bathroom, with you guessed it, diarreah. Service: Cooks and cashier were very pleasant, and went above and beyond my expectations for a $5.50 burrito. They were treating me like i was in a first class restaurant, but I was confused considering the price of my burrito. The burrito was served in a cheap little paper hot dog holder, which could have been better served on a hot plate. The breakfast bar was in pristine condition and one can tell they take care of the place. Overall: I can't believe how bad the food was, this place caters to higher end clientele. Everyone in there was talking to each other, meaning that the customers were all lawyers or city employees, making 50K+, who can all afford a 10 dollar burrito. My advice, make the food more expensive, don't slack off with cheap ingredients rampant in whatever bacteria gave me a stomach ache, and end up with everyone better off. People would still pay for a $10 burrito if you include it with a drink and hash browns and you'd have higher margins. read more
