I've gotten several recommendations from this place but the line is always wall to wall, and I mean a mall's hallway, wall to wall. Friday at 2PM finally made it work haha. Small hole in the wall with 3 people staffed, working like a well oiled machine. As the customer before me was paying, the counter asks what I want. I say it and immediately a staff member passes the freshly assembled sandwich to another staff, who wraps it, who then passes it to the counter and thus handed to me. Somehow it all happens before I fumble my credit card out of my wallet. I got the market chicken sandwich, which I would call a chicken soup topped with bacon in between a nicely toasted, crunchy but still soft, ciabatta. Comforting, with a small kick of spice and savoury. For an extra $3, the same feeling with even more kick, Corn Chowder. Get it, you won't be disappointed. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Their concept is great, simple menu items without substitutions and two types of soup. I ordered the Market sandwich which featured jalapeno slaw, chicken and ciabatta bread. The bread was surprisingly soft but, the chicken was overcooked and didn't have much flavor. The slaw wasn't a slaw at all, more of a spring mix salad with mayo! I didn't taste any jalapeno in the slaw. The tomato soup I ordered was okay but, nothing memorable about it. Mr. Mustache was such a hidden gem and I mean hidden. It took me a solid few minutes to actually find the place, but once I did, I completely understood why people line up here for lunch every day. I'm visiting from out of town and genuinely obsessed. The sandwich I got was so fresh and flavorful, with that perfect balance of crisp greens, melty cheese, and juicy chicken on the softest bread. Everything just tasted intentional and high-quality. If I lived in LA, this would 100% be my go-to lunch spot. It's exactly what the downtown sandwich scene needed, simple, creative, and absolutely delicious. Location: 555 A Flower in the basement. The food is very tasty and prices are reasonable. However, the customer service is a -1 (minus one) out of 5. Is a RUSH RUDE tone. The cashier is RUDE and PREJUDICE. Last week a Spanish female customer asked for extra bread and without hesitation and extra charge she obliged and handed her the bread. I followed and asked for extra croutons she replied, I can't! Today I offered to pay for the croutons, charged me $2. Very disappointed with the customer service. When I picked up my order, I thought my meal came as a combo and was confused when I didn't receive chips. I politely asked about it, and the woman handing out orders (see pic) responded with, "Next time you need to tell us," and then tossed a bag of chips onto the counter. I was still unsure whether I had paid for the chips or whether they were included, so I asked for clarification. Instead of explaining, she replied, "No, next time you have to tell us." I told her I wasn't looking for anything for free--I was simply confused about my order. I didn't take the free chips. What should have been a simple question turned into an embarrassing interaction. December 11, 2025: The lady who takes the food orders was very rude to me and embarrassed me. I grabbed extra napkins and she loudly called me DIRTY and that I couldn't touch the napkins that are clearly right there in the photo for customers to take. In case the napkins aren't supposed to be touched by customers, there are many polite ways to communicate that to me. It was a long line and people around and everyone heard me being called DIRTY and I work nearby and I'm dressed in my professional attire as well? Regardless though of how I look no one should ever be disrespectful to say that to anyone. I am not a big sandwich lover but this place was great! I got the market chicken sandwich and it was flavorful, and the texture of the bread and chicken with the crunchy slaw was perfect. I've worked in City National Plaza since 2013, with a 2-year hiatus, and I'll say with confidence that Mr. Mustache is the best place to eat in the food court. I have colleagues who will only eat here or go outside of the building for lunch. Just look for the long line that usually stretches past Cilantro/Robek's, or smell the bacon to lead you to the right place! (I do not know the owner's name, despite having many casual conversations with him, so I'll refer to him as Mr. Mustache. Even though I cannot recall whether he actually has a mustache). This place started as a one-man-show, hole in the wall, borrowing the kitchen of Weiland Underground and serving out of a window on the side of the restaurant. When I returned to work here in 2022, I loved to see that not only did he make it through COVID, but hired a few staff members and expanded to his own storefront with a real menu. Love to see them thriving! The food is always fresh, delicious, flavorful and reasonably priced. Mr. Mustache always seems proud of his culinary expertise; everything is freshly prepared from scratch and he reminds me of an artist when it comes to his food. Back in the previous space, he used to try out new soups all the time. The menu is more stable now, but everything I've had is always delicious; the Nicoise Salad, the Nice Little Salad, Market Chicken sandwich, and Tomato Mozzarella sandwich are always hits. He also makes the thickest, tastiest bacon that you could order on the side. Sometimes, I stop by and order a few bacon slices or some of the buttery toast/croutons (please get that if you're getting a soup or salad!) just as a snack! I just tried his new Roasted Peanut Kale salad and it was such a flavorful experience! The line can get long, but Mr. Mustache and his team are super efficient and always keep it moving quickly. This is solid sandwich shop which operates mostly as take-out. I've been here a few times for lunch and absolutely love their sandwiches. It has no name in front, so it's easy to miss. I've passed by it numerous times, until a friend told me about it. It's located bottom level of Paul Hasting's building, near Robek and Cilantro Grill. Just look for a line of people in front and a gal taking orders behind the small counter. Don't get deterred by long line, it actually goes by fast and service is super quick. My last few visits I was in and out in less than minute. Prices for sandwiches are very affordable at $8.50 and they are quite big too. My favorites are the herb and market chicken sandwiches which I always pair with small cup of tomato bisque. The perfect match indeed, I imagine them holding hands and skipping off into the sunset. Both sandwiches are delicious and flavor profile is excellent. I love sun dried tomato so I'm more favorable to herb chicken, but market is just as good because it has bacon. What makes their sandwiches so special is freshly baked ciabatta bun giving them crisp and warm texture. I was totally amazed how good they were when I had one for the first time. I'm not big into sandwiches, but Mr. Mustache's sandwich has won me over. They also have 2 other sandwiches on menu (packed tuna and mozzarella/tomato) and salads which I have yet to try. The cashier made me a salad without it and seemed a bit perturbed when I declined a caesar salad with no caesar dressing. The soup was the best item I ordered. I think it was corn chowder. It had a nice mild spice to it. The star of course is the sandwich. It's basically all bread but the bread is very fresh. I work across the street and could not tell you how many of my coworkers go here for lunch every day. They are so consistent and quick, perfect for a quick workday lunch. The guys who work there are straight to the point because they have a huge line of people to get through during the lunch rush and do such a great job getting us in and out. The menu is very simple and easy to digest. Food is always so good and hot. I couldn't recommend it more! This is a stall in an underground foos hall, so there are plenty of tables and benches to sit at or you can go up to ground level and find more of the same in the surrounding area. It seems they prep a batch of each item then take 5-10 customer in a steady quick stream.
