    Drinks!!
    Anita C.

Menu: the chef specials are so creative on a constant rotation. I also appreciate that I can bring a visiting coworker to this place and they can find something to eat based on their dietary restriction or preference. They also have plenty of snacks and drinks. Execution: I've eaten at the office HQ cafeteria many times and I prefer to eat here! The office cafeteria chef specials are either too seasoned or too salty. Everything here is well seasoned and balanced. Staff: the security and cafe staff are so kind and friendly that they have become a bright spot of my day. The smiles and greetings make the work day not so lonely.

I really wanted to like this place given the awesome prices, and delicious looking menu. On my second day at the California Endowment Center, I grabbed my coffee and breakfast from the cafe. I ordered the "short stack," which was described as three pancakes with seasonal fruit compote and powdered sugar. It took nearly 15 minutes to get my order even though there were only two other people there. The pancakes were slightly undercooked, and had no fruit or sugar. Gave the extra star because the drip coffee was ok. The muffins, which are brought in from Homeboy Bakery, were good. I had originally planned to eat lunch there, but ended up going off site due to the lackluster breakfast experience.

I love love LOVE Rise Up Cafe! Located inside the California Endowment Center, which I have to often frequent for work, it is such a good spot to grab a good reasonably-priced breakfast. Service is always great, and everyone is soooo friendly! They often have specials, so that can be deliciously fun. I am very into their breakfast burrito, made with egg, tater tots, and cheese all wrapped in a spinach tortilla. All of their breakfast items are under $4, which is such a steal, particularly for LA! I cannot say much about their lunch, as I always go off-site for that (sorry, but I can't resist all the other places this area has to offer!), but I ALWAYS make time for breakfast here. Pastries and cookies are amazing, as they come from Homegirl Cafe. I don't think I need to say more about this, if you've tried the pastries at Homegirl... so good! Do yourself a favor, if you come to the Endowment Center, make sure to stop by Rise Up Cafe. :)

Rise Up! Cafe is located in the heart of The California Endowment Center. If you're there for an event that is not catering, they have your basic necessities to fill your gut for the time being at very cheap/reasonable prices, too! Their coffee, espresso and tea menu is rather simple and very cheap compared to neighboring cafes. They also have a selection of cold, bottled beverages. While they have ready-made salads, fruit cups, and sandwiches, they also have warm sandwiches and cooked meals to choose from such as breakfast burritos, pancakes, soups and burgers. Love that they sell Homeboy Industries' pastries! Plenty of friendly staff on deck, too. :)

The food taste great! The service is very fast and polite. The Cafe is located inside an office building, so to enter you need to sign in with the guard. Apple Maps say that it is open on Fridays as well but it is only open Monday - Thursday.

This cafe is inside the California Endowment Center. You will need to sign in at the front desk before making your way inside toward the cafe. The cafe posts their weekly menus online with their specials. In addition to the specials, they have a variety of sandwiches, salads, and sides that are fixed items. If you're ordering from the weekly specials, you can get 1 entree and 2 sides for $5.75. It is a good amount of food for less than $6 and worth every penny. You get so much food. They also have a small selection of baked items, fruit cups, and an assortment of drinks. I highly recommend if you work around LA/Chinatown to check this place out during your lunch break!

So I appreciate that speed. They're serious about the espresso (with complementary club soda yum). But it's pricey and sometimes not really sensible (like the Wagyu slider isn't something I'd recommend. Stick to the egg sando.) I also highly dislike the $18 parking price tag I had to cough up for staying there for 3 hrs (doing sensible work) and had spent close to $65+ on drinks/food/tip; I didn't bother with the 30min parking validation but I think it's recommended since it racks up! Given my worship for stereoscope and andante quality coffee and the ease/low parking drama, I won't be making another planned visit here unless I wanna go somewhere I can buckle in a couple of hours work.. coz I was quite productive here, I think this is a 3.5+/5 place.

She was genuinely engaged in talking about coffee, understood the beans she was serving, and was able to answer questions without hesitation. That's becoming harder to find these days, and it definitely added to the overall experience. The cortado itself was well executed. The temperature was right where it should be, allowing the flavors to come through immediately without having to wait for the drink to cool down. I was able to clearly taste the notes in the coffee, and the balance between the espresso and milk was excellent. The body held together nicely throughout the drink and never felt thin or watered down. My only critique would be that the crema and microfoam leaned a little more matte and foamy than glossy. It wasn't enough to take away from the drink, but a slightly silkier, shinier texture would have elevated it even further. That said, this was an Ethiopian natural, which can be a bit trickier to dial in and pair with milk while still preserving the character of the coffee, so it's a fairly minor criticism. Overall, a very good cortado from a shop that clearly cares about coffee. Good execution, proper temperature, clear flavor separation, and knowledgeable staff always make for a better coffee experience.

I stumbled across their Yelp page when I was visiting from out of town and checked the Instagram for their hours on a Saturday afternoon and was happy to see they were open! I am a sucker for pop-up coffee shop/cart concepts so I had to check it out. The pop-up is easy to find, it's outside facing into the parking lot, and they had a cute A-frame sign out by the street side. There was no line, and I ordered and sat down at one of the tables out front. The service was so warm, and I believe the shop is owned and operated by one man on his own! He was an absolute delight to meet, and he brought my matcha latte to me at the table when it was prepared. He suggested I get the cream top on it, and boy was that the perfect recommendation. I would say I'm a little bit of a matcha fiend... I think I got a matcha latte at 3 different places this day... and this one far surpassed the others. I think it was one of the best matcha lattes I have ever drank to-date. It was perfectly green, the matcha quality was phenomenal, both taste and look-wise. The texture was just right, perfectly creamy with barely any grittiness. The cream top only added to the drink, and didn't take away from the matcha flavor at all, which I feel like has happened at other places for me. I'm dreaming of this matcha latte days later, and need to go back to Kokoro No Coffee as soon as I am in town again. This was a spectacular find, and I hope this spot gets all the love it deserves! There is truly nothing like a great business ran by a great person and you can tell there's so much intention put into this concept. Highly, highly recommend and I could not sing praises more!

Since we were trying to eat at as many places without feeling food coma'ed out, we ordered 1 Corn Beef Silog. Calamansi Tonic Espresso and Black Mamba. The Corn Beef Silog was really solid, it was also deep fried in a Panko Crusted outer layer which is their take on a Croquette. We particularly like the crunch it adds to the dish. But yeah it was the corn beef has we were looking for mixed with the good 'ol garlic rice and sunny side up egg. The vinegar they used was a lot stronger than I thought and I think they could do without it. The tonic espresso grew on me, upon first sip, I could taste the tonic and I haven't had tonic before so I wasn't feeling it. Until I mixed it and it got a lot better. What was really cute too, is they have pop up vendors and it was a bread and dessert vendor that are right across the counter. What caught my eye was this apron that was a collaboration between Garden and Seeds x Lasita. It had so many pockets and it went from a short apron to a long one with just a zipper. I bought this for the sole purpose of wearing it as an accessory as Tan/Brown pairs well with black and white clothing. Staff was so nice and helpful when ordering and even inquiring about the apron since there was no price on it. Hopefully we'll be back and can catch them during their dinner service!

You don't have to look that hard since there's a small sign outside, leading into the cafe. Once you cross the first part, you'll see two bathrooms and outdoor seating. Their egg sando comes with three baby dill pickles and some ground pepper sprinkled on top. It was delicious and truly hit the spot. Their latte was also delicious with a balance of coffee and fruit. The sesame isn't overpowering, so I wouldn't worry about that when ordering. After eating, we bussed our own plates and cups by putting them in a basket near their water dispenser. Honestly, I'm not hesitant to spend 7-10 dollars on a cup of coffee, so maybe it wasn't truly that expensive. The restaurant itself is fairly unassuming and may not look as fancy and in order as some more new wave places, but the flavors here can't easily be replicated.
