After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Grace's Place Pizzeria, located in the Grandin Village neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example of one of them. Located in the heart of Grandin Village, one of Roanoke's most desirable and walkable neighborhoods, and right next to the historic Grandin Theatre, this family-owned and operated pizza shop, by local residents Ruben Liendo and his wife and general manager Alaina for over 22 years now, is that kind of a place that if you visit once you would want to come back forever. Today, I happened to be walking on the sidewalk of Grandin Rd (which is the Main Street of Grandin Village) to check out a new business that's about to open in a few days, and as I walked by Grace's Place Pizzeria, Matthew, one of the servers who was just arriving recognized me and immediately said hello. He asked how I was doing and showed me the newest creation he had painted on one of the windows of the restaurant. It was colorful pizza wings, for people to pose in front of them and have a picture taken and share it in social media. What a creative idea I thought and told him, and walked on to my errand. After I finished my errand I decided to return to Grace's Place and have an early dinner there, now that it wasn't crowded as usually it gets when I visit the place in prime time and on the weekends. Matthew greeted and welcomed me as I entered the door and graciously took and hanged my coat on the wall coat rack. He invited me to take a seat at the table of my choice and I went and sat at one of their comfortable booths. To drink I ordered a Pink Lemonade. To dine I ordered a Side Salad with their Special dressing to begin with. As my main entrée I ordered a 10" Pizza Suprema. As I waited I enjoyed my refreshing Iced Pink Lemonade. Then my Side Salad arrived with the amazing in-house made salad dressing. It was delicious. The timing was perfect. Soon after I had finished my salad and the empty salad bowl removed, my Pizza Suprema arrived. One look and I could tell it was the authentic handcrafted pizza this casual Italian restaurant is so well known for. It looked spectacular and tasted even better. Starting with its unique tasting dough and fresh toppings, cooked to perfection. They take their time making their pizzas, but they come out perfect everytime. It was so rich in texture and in flavor, placed on top of a plate with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. What a magic touch ending for an extraordinary dining experience. We've been looking forward to trying some local eats since I'll be in town on business for a few days. But after the long day and delays on the road, we were exhausted. Cue "settling" for the take-out menus. Ordering was just a little difficult as it was hard to understand the nice man taking our order and they had to call back because they got the credit card number confused, but they were very nice throughout and very customer-oriented. I've got to say, if this is what settling gets you, I want more. That was some quality food. Just the right amount of greasy, the toppings were zesty and spicy, and the sauce was aces. Most places we order from back home have a 3 or 5 mile limit on delivery and their food is cold if we are near their geographic limit. Roma got our order to Comfort Inn on the South side of Blacksburg and it was piping hot and amazing. For food, we're planning to explore the town a little bit while we're here, but going to recommend Roma to lots of people.

When the pizza arrived the pie was fresh and soft, the cheese very cheesy, the BBQ sause just right, and the steak cut in little pieces. After we finished eating it we felt full but not too stuffy. We then each ordered a slice of Strawberry Cheesecake. It was soft and creamy and the strategy sauce on top was very sweet and tasty. The owner was very friendly and came by to check on us at the right times and to fill our glasses with water. Two of the three plates were dirty and there was something floating in my drink. Strike three without question, but the final never again came when there was no care or concern from the staff at all that their dishes were not clean and there were foreign objects in the drinks. Lastly, after a very long wait, the food arrived. It was just ok, not worth the heat, the filthy environment, the dirty dishes, the excessive wait, or the foreign objects floating in the drinks. But what I didn't understand was if corporate was aware of the significance that their restaurant represented for our very close community of this Star City of Roanoke. If you read my thorough review in their old Yelp website, which corporate definitely did and I hope seriously considered in their decision to open this place back again, since they provided me with a very warm, understanding, and thankful reply. As soon as I found out it was opened, I headed over there and what I saw amazed me. Yes, my favorite salad bar was again open with fresh vegetables and tasty salad dressing. There were the usual soups and pastas, great variety of pizzas to choose from, their famous breadsticks, and the usual as well as new pizza desserts. And most importantly of all, there was the enthusiasm of the people of our community, of different ages, social classes, and ethnic groups, running around with great enthusiasm, enjoying this momentous and special event with their family and friends. I'm talking about the new Chicken Wings restaurant locally-owned and operated by Kevin Edwards, Wingstop. Located at the Southwest Plaza Shopping Center on Electric Road (next to Jersey Mike's), this casual counter-serve chain specializing in cooked-to-order wings (classic or boneless) with over 11 iconic flavors, as well as chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches, with sides of their hand-cut, seasoned fries, and other signature sides such as their Cajun Fried Corn and their Buffalo Ranch Fries. From the moment I entered the restaurant I felt the warm southern hospitality from the ladies behind the counter and also from the manager and assistant manager who welcomed me wholeheartedly, while I waited for my order to be freshly prepared. The place was clean and well lit with only around five small tables. Even though most of their orders were To-go, all of their tables seemed to also be always full. The backlit menus high above behind the counter were very well organized and easy to understand. I particularly liked their chart of sauces from Heat (Atomic) to no Heat (Hawaiian), illustrated with a colorful line from red, yellow, to green. I ordered their 5pc Crispy Tender Combo with their Hickory Smoked BBQ flavor sauce, a regular size side of their seasoned fries, and a regular 20oz beverage. Then after hearing of their Cajun Fried Corn, I had to try one also. As I watched into their open kitchen, I was very impressed with the teamwork and positive attitude from all their crew members. The manager did an excellent job keeping everything moving and bringing out the order bags to the Pick-Up counter. The assistant manager, a friendly and dynamic lady with a wonderful personality was also on top of things all the time. I filled my paper cup with ice and Coke from their softdrink machine and placed it at the table in the back to hold my place. They have an electric chart on the side wall of the ordering counter that keeps you informed of the status of your order. When my order was ready, the manager handed it to me in person inside a bag and I took it to my table. Let's just say I like to have my extensive dining options. It should be noted that I enjoy the local sports bar and grills featuring buffalo wings that can give the big chains a run for their money just as much as anyone, but there is nothing wrong with indulging in some guilty pleasure from the big chains from time to time as well. And with that said, it is time to return the focus directly on this new Wingstop location. They opened on Monday, 05/18/2026, and have had lines out the door ever since. This is to be expected whenever a new place first opens in Roanoke, but I suspect the crowds will taper off to a normal flow of customers within a couple of weeks. As a tip during this grand opening time, if you are going for lunch, arrive around 11 AM, which is close to when they first open their doors, to avoid bigger crowds until the new hype dies off. My friend Dom and I did this, and our service ended up being fast and efficient. Even with a decent sized crowd during our early visit, the food came out lightning fast and fresh. The prices were reasonable too for the quality of food we received. I ordered a 6-piece boneless meal, which included perfectly cooked seasoned fries and a fountain drink. I had my wings tossed in their Atomic Sauce, which is their hottest flavor. If you do not like spice, then this sauce is not for you, but it is not nearly as hot as Buffalo Wild Wings' Blazin' Knockout Sauce. I personally find the Atomic Sauce to be zesty and delicious with a spicy kick. My friend Dom ordered the limited time Citrus Mojo Sauce for his chicken, and we both agree they need to keep this sauce on the menu. For those curious about it, it features garlic herb and citrus flavors. I am looking forward to going back to Wingstop soon and trying some of their other sauces on various menu options.
