It's rare to come across a real butcher shop who serves great quality meat, but also offers takeout food that tastes amazing. In a time where just about everything has gotten so expensive, isn't it time we change our habits to support local businesses that are doing incredible work? The draw back is this place is very crowed during peak times and it a little too small considering the amount of customers that come. I've driven past Papa's Meat and Seafood on Glenoaks Blvd a dozen times, on our many trips to the area. We alway promising that we would stop in, and I'd finally stop in. Honestly, my only regret is waiting this long. I ordered the Luka Sandwich, which is loaded with their 14-hour smoked pastrami brisket, cheddar, pickled cherry peppers, iceberg, and Papa's aioli on toasted sourdough. The pastrami itself is a work of art--smoky, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and seasoned perfectly without being a total salt bomb. The pickled cherry peppers give it this incredible, bright pop of heat that cuts right through the richness of the beef. It's a messy, beautiful monster of a sandwich.  My wife went with the Surf 'n' Turf Bowl, which comes with their marinated "Crack Shrimp" and grilled angus beef over rice with a fresh shirazi salad. The beef was incredibly tender, but those crack shrimp stole the show--snappy, heavily seasoned, and completely addictive. You can clearly taste the quality of a high-end butcher shop in a casual, quick-service lunch.  The only reason I'm knocking off one star is the wait time and the seating is also pretty limited, so it's much better suited for a grab-and-go situation than a sit-down date night. That being said, the quality of the meat here blows standard sandwich joints completely out of the water. If you're in Burbank and want a lunch that actually feels high-quality and satisfying, do yourself a favor and drop in. I'm already eyeing the A5 Wagyu Cheesesteak for my next visit! read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it out. Went with the Luka pastrami sandwich and honestly? It just didn't do it for me. The pastrami itself is fine; it tastes like pastrami, but that's kind of the problem. There's nothing about it that makes you me go "wow" It's just... meat on bread. Nothing that separates it from what you'd get at any random deli. The cherry pepper relish was a letdown too. I was expecting something with a little sweetness and tang to it, like an actual relish. What I got was basically just jalapeño peppers. That's it. Not what I was picturing at all. The coleslaw? Couldn't taste it. Like at all. I knew it was supposed to be in there but it made zero impact. And the cheese was the same story if it was actually on there, it wasn't doing anything for the sandwich. Oh and the size of this thing for the price? A little disappointing. You're not walking away feeling like you got your money's worth. To be fair, I think I ordered the wrong thing. Looking back I probably should've just gone with the classic pastrami instead of the specialty version; that one's on me. But I would rather go to Brent's or similar for a pastrami sandwich. Lots of buzz about the sandwiches at Papa's, so I went in to check it out. They started out as a butcher shop (they still are), but it's the sandwiches which put them on the map. The menu is written on butcher paper, and seems to change, based on availability. This place is tiny, but they have room to grow. Not long ago, this location was a leather shop, but now it belongs to Papa. There's no in-door seating (too small) but they do have a few outdoor tables. I will definitely be back for the deli counter (they carry choice prime, wagyu beef, Pork seafood, etc), but on this particular visit, I came for the sandwiches. I ordered the Big Papa Pastrami Sandwich, served on toasted ciabatta bread. 14 hour smoked pastrami, vinaigrette slaw, Swiss cheese, lettuce and Aioli. The Milano Sandwich is their version of an Italian cold cut sandwich. Also served on ciabatta bread, it comes with paper-thin salami, arugula slaw, cheese, and roasted peppers. These two sandwiches are the first offerings from Papa. Since then, they have added more to the list. The Luka is another version of a pastrami sandwich, served on sourdough, with pickled Jalapeño . The Big Papa Burger, is served on a potato bun, with dry-aged beef, Cheddar, Caramelized Onions, and Pastrami. Everything is delicious. To say that these sandwiches are excellent, would be an understatement. The quality of the meats and ingredients are on another level. While I can eat the Pastrami and the Milano all day everyday, I am glad that they have added more sandwiches to the list. There is a 4% discount if you pay with cash. Also, get some pickles (not served with the sandwiches). They are spicy and zesty, and you will not be able to eat just one. Papa's is a must for Sandwich Connoisseurs, and foodies alike. I've lived in Burbank for decades and used to work in the general vicinity of Papa's and have even visited next-door at Gus's, but I never once 'Saw' Papa's sitting right there. And even if I had found out it was a butcher shop, I probably would've never went in because I'm just a single guy that doesn't shop heavily. However, as the current reviews state, I finally 'discovered' Papa's via social media; while the social media influencer came in and had like 5 different sandwiches. I was only gonna try one for today. So what would it be?! I decided to go with their staple big pop-up pastrami sandwich on the ciabatta bread and I must say it absolutely did not disappoint in the slightest; it was phenomenal. I'm not sure how often I will stop by because I don't live directly nearby, but it's also not too far away when I'm hankering for a phenomenal sandwich! Stopped by on a quick trip to the Americana. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. It's a combo butcher shop and sandwich shop. I ordered the Luka and then ordered crack shrimp to go uncooked. The Luka was a solid sandwich very flavorful. I was hoping to get some of the halal meals but they only do those during the week so I will have to come back. The crack shrimp was exceptional! Some of the best shrimp I've ever had in my life. It's my second time trying a sandwich here, and I have to say, I'm really digging their Big Papa Pastrami. They use a ciabatta bread instead of the traditional rye bread, but I think it works very well for this sandwich. The bread is nice and soft, but does a good job of holding everything together. You can tell that the meat is high quality. The pastrami is topped with a nice crunchy slaw, some cheese, and some kind of tangy sauce that I'm not able to identify. At $20, it's not cheap, but not that bad for an every once in a while treat. It's a decent-sized sandwich, not huge, but not small either. I think this is probably one of the better pastrami sandwiches in the L.A. area. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is good enough for me to drive 30 minutes to eat here. Street parking only. This is mainly a meat shop that happens to sell sandwiches from 11am to 4pm, so the food is takeaway for the most part. They do have two tables out on the sidewalk, one that seats two people, and a picnic table with benches that can seat maybe six or eight. Just know that there is almost no shade out there, so you're going to get baked in the sun. Be prepared to eat in your car or take your food home, in case the tables are taken. read more

One of my new favorite sandwiches and specifically pastrami sandwiches in LA. Service was great, the store is clean, and seeing all the meat options was fantastic. My sandwich came out in maybe 5 minutes. Piled high with lean, juicy, flavorful pastrami, they know what they are doing here. Summer might be over but grilling season is definitely not. I stopped by Papa's meat market to pick up some marinated meat selection for a gathering we were having. First off loved the cool art they have. Very cool. They also have the best customer service. I told them what I wanted and they knew exactly what cut and how much to provide. Their quality of cuts is unmatched. I picked up a couple of sandwiches, just for you know appetizer before we grilled. The Italian was ridiculously good. Perfect amount of acidity and the cold cuts were so fresh. The pastrami was truly a masterpiece. The thick cuts of pastrami were seasoned beautifully Now on to the grilling, the lambchops were so succulent and the marinate was fabulous. The pork and the beef were literally like butter. Woah, I get it, I really get how they have such high reviews! First off the gentleman behind the counter was so nice and helpful, even hooked me up with a free drink as it was my first time. I asked him for a recommendation and he basically said to start at the top of the menu and work my way down over time lol. Arrived around 5:15 pm on a Saturday with a buddy and when my friend ordered a sandwich they said they were out of bread as they were closing early. Fair enough. We ordered pastrami bowls and then were told there wasn't any pastrami. Why not just open with: "We don't have x,y,z items at this time just FYI" as you see us looking at your menu trying to decide on something. Extremely disappointing as we were both looking forward to trying this place since seeing it on social media. Came to this place for the first time, got here at 6:19 just to be turned away and told they where closed. I informed them it says they are open until 7pm and had came from San Fernando. The guy replied we stop selling sandwhiches at 5:45pm and butcher shop open until 7pm. I told hin that is not listed here on yelp. Never coming back here again.
