    Pastrami Sandwich (on sourdough)
    Justin C.

I came here thinking this was the actual Katz's Deli from NYC and was so excited to try it. I was extremely disappointing walking in to find that this "deli" is located in the back of a random generic liquor store in Burbank. I am honestly surprised that they are allowed to call themselves "Katz's Deli," since I'm sure I'm not the only one that came here thinking it's the NYC one... anyways... should've read through the yelp reviews closer. Regardless, the quality of the food, particularly the pastrami sandwiches, is very high. The pastrami is diced up into cubes, rather than slices. I would prefer them to be slices but the taste was still amazing. I tried the regular pastrami sandwich ($20) as well as the pastrami reuben sandwich ($23). While both are pastrami sandwiches, I would highly recommend paying the extra $3 to get it as a reuben sandwich, as it comes toasted and with Russian dressing and sauerkraut in it as well. The pastrami sandwich is pretty ordinary but the reuben sandwich is very delicious. The sandwiches also come with your choice of mac salad, potato salad, or coleslaw. We tried one of the mac salad and one potato salad, and they were pretty mid but not bad tbh. Service is nice. I believe the countertop is run by an older couple. It seems like they have been doing this for a while. We waited for about 20-30 minutes for our food. Again, it's located in the back of a liquor store so while we were waiting, we just had to awkwardly stand around in the liquor store. There is seating outside, but it was in the sun and it was a hot day today. We ended up taking the food togo to eat somewhere else. Overall, good food. Feels slightly deceptive with the name but surprised with the great flavors of the food. Solid 4/5.

Katz's is just such a fun place to go. All of their food is great. We always get our to go and eat it at our hotel or at home, when we are nearby. They have the nicest service. Everyone is so kind and they are fast. I don't think it is open late so give them a call. It can get crowded, but the wait is not bad and it is worth it. The place is just so cute and always a comfortable place to be. Whenever you are in town it really is a must stop. They have a tuna melt that is to die for and all of their sandwiches are the bomb. It if is deli food, they have it. It is always fresh and made to order. The place is kept ever so clean and prices are very fair. I could eat there everyday, but my doctor would not be happy. They also have great soups. They are all great. We have had them all. Their pastrami sandwiches are also very good and who does not love corned beef. Have a great time.

Pastrami on seeded rye with mustard

I am in love with this place. I have had this place bookmarked but because of only opening on weekdays I had not had an opportunity to try it until now I wanted to try the pastrami and corned beef and got both and tried all three sides - coleslaw, potato salad and macaroni salad . All sides weee food fresh tasting and the potatoes and macaroni in their respective sides not over cooked I really like both meats - I preferred the seeded rye which had cornmeal on the edge crust which gave it more texture and I love caraway The unseeded rye was too soft for me and I missed the caraway but the other person trying it liked it. The slices of bread and meat portions were large . This sandwich will fill you unless you have a gigantic appetite You also got pickle spears which were very tasty Service was very personable, and yes this sandwich does not get made lickety split because it's handcrafted with care Would definitely return - I was sad when I was done - in fact I had ai help me with a couple of haiku to express my feelings Pastrami vanished-- corned beef echoes linger on. Taste fades, sorrow stays. Hands gentle, precise-- a man builds quiet joy between two slices of bread.

Wow. Coming from OC, I happen to be close by and picked up 1 lb of pastrami. OMG. Melt in your mouth. This is the best pastrami I've ever had. I can't stop thinking about pastrami! Can't wait to get back to burbank. Thanks

This is my type of place, and the reason I review on Yelp! My favorite places to visit and ones to give exposure to are the local gem mom and pop shops. To begin, this isn't easy to spot place from the street. It's located within a liquor store in the back corner. Within the deli, you will find two smiling warm faces that are eager to serve. I found myself ordering the popular pastrami sandwich and went with potato salad. While I was conversing and waiting, the gentleman made sure to have me sample the meat -- delicious! Once ready he reminded me of the half pound of meat inside. He wasn't kidding. Sandwich was loaded and delicious. Meat fell apart and had great flavor. The rye bread was seedless and I appreciated the simplicity. Good and in your face until the last bite. Pickles and potato salad were a nice side. Now I want to return for chili, matzo ball soup and a few other items. I will be back!!!

Oh my! We have a local spot for thick cut pastrami sandwiches! To be fair, I liked Wexlers before they closed and the other Katz in New York is still the king in my mind, but nothing in LA seems to come close these days and I have been searching. LA is over run with thin sliced pastrami which is fine once in a while, but after visiting NYC again this past year I was on a mission to find decent thick cut pastrami and the Burbank Katz is the only one so far which deserves my repeat business. Service is very friendly, but plan to wait a few minutes for your sandwich as they are made to order. Parking seems to be street parking only, but wasn't too hard on a Friday afternoon around 1pm. Also tried their corned beef on rye which was pretty good as well, but the star is truly the pastrami. The only miss might be the salads. Tried potato and macaroni and both were avg at best. Seemed like the bulk store bought type, but don't let that take away from the sandwich experience. The final touch is the pickle which was divine and paired well with the sandwiches. Last but not meat is the chili. Very good and happy we tried it but next time it's pastramis all around and maybe a chili dog or lobster roll if timing works out :) Five star for LA pastrami, but would be four stars if comparing to OG :)

For years I have begged the gods for a Jewish style deli in Burbank. It didn't have to be great, it didn't have to be mind blowing good, just a place where you could get a corned beef or a pastrami on rye and a bowl of matzo ball soup. Finally, my prayers were answered. Katz's Deli is exactly what I wanted and it is great and it is mind blowingly good. I have found great food in all sorts of unusual places...but what are the odds I'd find another great sandwich spot in the back of a liquor store? Apparently high. Katz's (not to be confused with that one) is as hidden a hidden gem can get. Right next to the energy drinks and office supplies section of Village Liquor & Market, is a counter top where you can order some of the best food in town. The menu is simple, hot sandwiches like a Reuben or a tuna melt. Cold sandwiches like a chicken or turkey club. Their meats are apparently sourced from Burbank's own, RC Provisions, so even without taking a bite, I know it'll be good. The sandwiches come with your typical sides of coleslaw, potato salad, or mac salad...and of course, a pickle spear. Unfortunately, I was feeling under the weather and really couldn't eat a sandwich...but a bowl of matzo ball soup would be the perfect meal and it was. The larger size comes with two, almost baseball sized, matzo balls. To matzo ball aficionados, these are probably closer to floaters than sinkers, but there's still a nice bite to them. They soak in the rich broth, but don't get soggy. The broth has that schmaltzy taste to it where it's lip smacking good...and even though I drove back to the office, let it sit for a bit, then ate it...they were steaming hot til the last bite. They have a small pantry of things behind the counter and it looks like they make their soups from premade canned broth and a box mix, but even if that was the case, it was so damn comforting. Then you add in the little touches like tiny carrot medallions and the noodles, it was perfect. Fitting that a Katz's deli would leave someone smiling and satisfied. Katz's however is not faultless. Service is slow, but it's expected when everything is made to order. It is contrasted with wonderful people behind the counter who are working hard to get orders out. There's nowhere to sit while you wait or eat, it is strictly take out only given their setting. The prices are pretty steep too. Most of the sandwiches cost 20 bucks, which is a high price to pay for just meat in between bread...but that seems to be the going rate these days for quality, great food. I've paid that much for a sub par fast food meal, so at the end of the day it's worth it, but it just seems crazy that a corned beef sandwich and a bowl of matzo ball soup might cost as much as a steak dinner. I wish they were open on the weekends, but for now, their hours are 11-4, which tend to be the busiest hours on Olive Ave for parking. With all that said, this place is great and a welcome addition the neighborhood. It probably won't be a regular thing, but when my soul needs some nourishing and comforting food, this is definitely where I'll turn to.

Currently a 'Best-Kept-Secret' tucked in the back corner of the Villiage Liquor store, they serve some delicious food! We got a Pastrami on rye, a Tuna Melt, and an Matzo Ball Soup and really enjoyed them. Tuna Melt was so tasty and we'd get it again in a heartbeat. The soup was delicious and such a treat since it's hard to find good matzo soup these days. Pastrami was delicious, but suffered from sub-par bread. Honestly, if they did a better rye... outstanding! Service was great! I'm guessing it's a 'mom n pop shop' and they were super nice! Unfortunately, no seating, so it's only take-away, but it's really good! Villiage Liquor has some nice wines, and is kind of a de facto Bodega. A little of everything.

Pastrami on rye with mustard and mayo

Deli is located inside a liquor store. The only downside was I waited about ten minutes in line and then had to wait another 25 for the sandwich, but maybe it was just a slow day. That being said, the food was delicious. I got the pastrami sandwich on rye with mayo and mustard. I've never had a pastrami sandwich before, so this was a first. Very tender, flavorful pastrami. Reminds me of BBQ I used to eat in the south with its flavor and juiciness. At first I thought $20 for a sandwich was a bit much, but honestly it was worth it. A very tasty meal. There are two tables outside for eating, actually a pretty nice spot on a sunny day to enjoy a meal. I'll definitely be back for more.

Pastrami sandwich was good! Not salty or dry

Cute mom & pop deli in a liquor store. Thought this was a chain from NY Kat'z Deli (so dry and salty when I had it in NY) but don't think it's the same place! I'm very picky when it comes to meaty sandwiches since it's usually so salty and dry.. not this place! Ordered two items and thought it was really good. Didn't have high expectations but we recommend! - pastrami sandwich 9/10! Not salty at all, tender and has that fatty umami meat flavor. Glad we picked the standard rye, similar to white bread - matzo ball soup 8/10 nice addition to the meal

Stumbled upon this place, which opened only a few months ago. Very friendly mom and pop Jewish-style deli headed by the warm Sheldon and Mimi. Walking to their counter you feel like you found some sort of secret speakeasy. Sheldon has an infectious personality and it almost feels like he's welcoming you into his home, he oozed hospitality. He let us know for the brisket and corned beef, he uses the recipe of a 92-year-old Jewish woman he knew that didn't want her recipe to be lost to time and you can definitely taste it. He also steams his pastrami extra long to make sure it's extra soft. Sheldon also let us know he guarantees 8 oz of meat per sandwich so you get a bang for your buck. I got the corned beef and I thought it would be salty but it was actually perfect and very aromatic. The rye bread was super soft and didn't fall apart. The coleslaw was cold and refreshing, sweet but not too sweet. I hope that this place gets some traction!

The draw back is this place is very crowed during peak times and it a little too small considering the amount of customers that come. I've driven past Papa's Meat and Seafood on Glenoaks Blvd a dozen times, on our many trips to the area. We alway promising that we would stop in, and I'd finally stop in. Honestly, my only regret is waiting this long. I ordered the Luka Sandwich, which is loaded with their 14-hour smoked pastrami brisket, cheddar, pickled cherry peppers, iceberg, and Papa's aioli on toasted sourdough. The pastrami itself is a work of art--smoky, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and seasoned perfectly without being a total salt bomb. The pickled cherry peppers give it this incredible, bright pop of heat that cuts right through the richness of the beef. It's a messy, beautiful monster of a sandwich.  My wife went with the Surf 'n' Turf Bowl, which comes with their marinated "Crack Shrimp" and grilled angus beef over rice with a fresh shirazi salad. The beef was incredibly tender, but those crack shrimp stole the show--snappy, heavily seasoned, and completely addictive. You can clearly taste the quality of a high-end butcher shop in a casual, quick-service lunch.  The only reason I'm knocking off one star is the wait time and the seating is also pretty limited, so it's much better suited for a grab-and-go situation than a sit-down date night. That being said, the quality of the meat here blows standard sandwich joints completely out of the water. If you're in Burbank and want a lunch that actually feels high-quality and satisfying, do yourself a favor and drop in. I'm already eyeing the A5 Wagyu Cheesesteak for my next visit!

However, I am compelled to rate this establishment one star due to a particularly unpleasant experience with a female deli employee whose first name begins with the letter "J." Despite my frequent visits, the overall customer service in the deli and meats department has declined. The season butchers have been replaced with individuals lacking the necessary experience and customer courtesy that were previously present. Over the past three months, I have encountered the same issues with this particular employee. It is important to note that the fee charged for slicing a Tri Tip into a carton container is not the primary concern. The issue lies in the employee's behavior and attitude, specifically their unwillingness to properly wrap the sliced meat. This has occurred on multiple occasions, most recently at the checkout counter when the cashier pull the foil-wrapped package from the plastic bag causing the juices of the meat to spill all over the counter. This has happened to me every time this employee has served me. The Tri Tip sliced meat is dry and devoid of juices due to this careless employee's failure to wrap the meat carefully. It is imperative that this situation be addressed. Management should provide this employee, "J," with proper training on how to wrap sliced food correctly. Additionally, it is crucial the ambiance that all employees, including the deli and butcher employees, maintain a pleasant and friendly demeanor. A salutation is always appreciated. Despite these concerns, the BBQ remains outstanding as always.
