I've ordered from Paparruchos once before and recently decided to give it another try after a serious hankering for Mexican food. I didn't have a car and this place is conveniently across the street, so it became the default option. I remembered my first experience wasn't great, but I couldn't recall exactly why--this second visit quickly reminded me. When I ordered over the phone, I was a little taken aback to learn they don't use traditional Mexican white cheeses like Oaxaca or queso fresco--only mozzarella. That honestly stumped me, and the woman on the phone could probably tell by my pause. The tacos themselves were good, but very small. They also came with only one corn tortilla instead of the usual double tortilla you'd expect from street tacos. On top of that, the order was five tacos instead of the more common six for around the same price point ($14.99), which seems to be a growing trend but still feels disappointing. There were no complimentary chips and salsa, so I had to order those separately. The upside is that the salsa selection was actually pretty good. I also ordered fries, not realizing they were $7. While the portion was decent, they definitely didn't feel like a $7 side--more in the $4-$5 range. Overall, the tacos did satisfy my craving, but not enough to make this a go-to spot. Paparucho will likely remain a last-resort option for me when I'm craving Mexican food and don't have many other choices nearby. read more

Came here twice while in town. I was staying across the street and this was the closest spot. I was here for 5 days and ended up going here twice. My server Yonn? was so pleasant and even recommended some things for me to try. Now everyone knows i am a soup head. They had the best chicken soup which comes with rice, carrots and potatoes. I also tried the buffalo wings which had a lovely kick to them. When i came back the 2nd time i ordered the same thing. Started out just wanting a drink to kill time waiting for a ride. Stupid me totally ignored all the red flags. No frozen margaritas, was not offered any chips/hot sauce (as I saw another table them), the menus were sticky, grimy, the regular margarita had a weird taste from the mixer and to top it off the bathroom was dirty (no towels and counter was less than clean.) I came here with my coworkers after a night out because one of my coworkers said this place was great. They seated us at a table with a bucket next to it because water was leaking from the ceiling. Then I looked over and water was leaking above the ceiling in the bar area as well. We had a group of ten people that came here and most of them had already paid for parking so we decided to stay. The salsas were brought in little 2 oz condiment containers for 6 of us at the table. The spice levels were on point, but we had to continuously ask for refills-- and they forgot a few times. The service was slow and we were one of the two tables there! After 9, the DJ arrives and the restaurant turns into a club like scene. Disco lights and fog machine... And more people start to arrive. There were even bathroom attendants like the clubs back in the early 2000s! No thanks, I don't need a spray of perfume and I can grab my own paper towels-- but thanks though. I went for happy hour and had the 5 steak tacos and a margarita. The food was ok, tiny tacos though. The margarita was really weak on tequila, it was mostly sour mix. The inside of the restaurant was really falling apart. The wall paint is coming off and there was a ton of mold all over and you can definitely smell it a funk inside. Fun, sports bar vibe. A little pricey for what you get, Tex-mex establishment conveniently located near the galleria area. I stayed in a neighboring hotel when in Houston for a friend's wedding. This place was recommended by the front desk staff at hotel indigo. Service was friendly and quick and the staff were very nice. Personally, I do not think that a small salad and a small margarita in a strip mall sports bar warrants a $40ish tab. Also, you should note that they add gratuity service fee and place with calculations for suggested tip. read more

I wish I could give a negative star on this establishment. My family and I went to this restaurant on 5/5/25. It took over an hour to get drinks for 8 guest. We asked many times for chips and salsa it arrived 30 min after receiving the drinks 1 basket of chips 1 salsa 1 verde for 8 guest. They were out of chicken and guacamole. This is far from a top notch Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant. A group I'm a member of had a mixer here so my wife and I swung by. The place was dead (3 people) aside from our group but the waiter acted like we were more of a bother than anything else when he realized we weren't ordering alcohol. We started off with the queso flameado. They brought out chips and salsa. Nothing spectacular, but it was serviceable for those who were hungry. The flameado came out with two corn and two flour tortillas. Not sure how they came up with that. The queso was okay but nowhere near the price they were charging. We weren't checked on until we flagged the waiter down to get a refill on a soft drink. He came back with a glass that was about 2/3 full. At that point we kind of gave up and requested the check. I knew something weird when they didn't give us our itemized receipt, just the bill. They automatically charge $16 for tip. They came to our table 3 times, each time we asked for water and never got it. We order queso when we say down, never got it. The salsa was so gross.
