However, I tried calling there to update information for an upcoming gathering but the man that picked up the phone couldn't hear me due to all the background noise. Excellent Mexican food here in SC !!!!! We have only been here 2x so far and both times food and service was great. Finally some food with some Mexican flavor not dumbed down to bland. The Spicy Cream Steak dinner was SOOOOOOOO Yummy!!! Wow! This is the best thing on the menu for sure. The Salsa Bar is so fresh and tasty! The beer and margaritas are both tasty. The servers both times got a great tip from us. The chips are fresh and crunchy! The bean dip is really good. The cilantro dip has such awesome flavor. The guac dip too is a favorite. We moved from AZ and we thought we wouldn't find any great Mexican food until we found this place. We left stuffed and happy! Great food in generous portions. Lots of snappy farm vegetables! Worst experience at a restaurant I've ever had. Food was made incorrectly twice. The burrito came stuffed with zucchini I didn't order one that had zucchini. Sent back came back with zucchini again and didn't taste good. Ate about 1/4 of it before I noticed and told my server. Manager come over told him I wasn't pleased with the food being made wrong twice. And asked him to take it off my bill and he said no I already ate over half of my burrito. I love this place. They have the best carne asada I've ever had, and their food is genuine and delicious (like my abuelita's). The service is prompt, and our waiter is always amazingly fast at responding to requests (i.e. Could we get some boxes, more water, etc.). My husband and I went out to eat at Papa's and Beer for my birthday and it was AMAZING! The service was excellent, the food was so good that I can't even begin to describe it, and the prices are great. (Dinner $10 or less)! I would highly recommed this resturant and will be going back. Actually have plans this weekend to return. By the way: my husband is mexican and said this was the first resturant he's ever been to that actually tasted like Grandma's cookin'! Also, the portions are HUGE! When the food-runner brought mine out I just stared. Our waiter walked by and thought me and my husband were arguing lol and thats when we told him that I was just shocked at the portion size. Honestly I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews. This place has some of the best Mexican food my husband and I have ever had and we've tried restaurants all over (my husband travels all over the country for work and I often get to go with him). Anyway while we were in SC we got to go here twice! I've been comparing every Mexican restaurant I go to to this one since. Their Yucatán flautas were the best flautas I ever had and I really loved the enchiladas blancas. I haven't found another place that combines fruit and enchiladas like that. Absolutely phenomenal. I now live in California (known for its Mexican restaurants) and have yet to find a place that comes close to Papa's and Beer. Not a day passes when I don't crave their enchiladas Mexicanas (and I mean that). Incredibly tender shredded beef and flavorful ranchero sauce. Great salsa bar and appetizers (especially the flautas, sampler platter, table-side guacamole, and wings...can't really go wrong with any of the appetizers). The shredded beef burrito and ground beef burrito are fairly similar to the aforementioned enchiladas, so these are good choices, as well. Super friendly staff. Food consistently arrives within minutes after ordering. Eduardo makes the best apple cinnamon margaritas and mojitos ever. Salads...amazing (try their cilantro house dressing). Their other location appears to have a drive-thru...what innovation. Cannot recommend this place enough. read more

Okay so, I'm not sure where to even start but let's start with the good. Both the food and the atmosphere are great, definitely better than the majority of Mexican restaurants. I've visited twice, and my first visit was definitely better than my second. We decided to stop in tonight, a Saturday night, expecting it to probably be busy. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender seemed super busy and it took him a minute to acknowledge us which was fine. It became clear that he was not a bartender when he told us he did not know how to make one of the margaritas on their menu. We switched to something he could make and it wasn't good at all. I'm pretty sure it had no tequila in it. We ordered the table side guacamole and only got it shortly before our food and then we had no chips to eat it with. I looked around and noticed quite a few tables that were upset with their service as well. It really seemed like they were severely understaffed and didn't know how to handle it. I felt extremely bad for the guy they had tending the bar. He was trying his best to handle what all he was given. He had the bar to tend, had to make drink orders for the rest of the restaurant, as well as wait tables around the bar. Management needs to do a better job of being adequately staffed on busy days like the weekends read more

Let me start by saying that I have never actually eaten here, although I attempted to, but I have gotten food from the Greenville location. I ordered a burrito from there which ended up having hardly any meat in it and mainly consisted of filler vegetables, such as squash? I'm not saying that it was inauthentic, because I'm no expert, however I am coming from the central Texas area, and to me it (the squash) seemed bizarre. Nevertheless, I decided that I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try the Anderson location since it had some decent reviews. Big mistake! Where to begin? It was around 3:40 when my wife and I first walked in. Although they were not busy, we had to wait for few minutes by the entrance until someone acknowledged us and led us to a booth, no big deal. The lunch specials are advertised as being served until 4 pm, however when we asked the server to see a lunch menu she rudely replied that it was no longer available because it was so close to the change over time. If that is the case do not advertise that it lasts until 4 pm. Next we were brought some of the house bean dip and our drinks. Once again, I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that does not make and serve its own salsa fresh every day, and trust me I did see the salsa bar at the front entrance which was messy and unappealing. To me the bean dip is a lazy and cheap alternative to fresh salsa, but whatever, we decided to try it anyways. Unfortunately, it was cold and on top of that our sodas were flat. When we politely brought this to the attention of our waitress she seemed annoyed as if we were being unreasonable or too picky. She did remedy the situation, however after we requested some more time to look over the menu, she turned and left with an audible groan, which is when we decided to leave. Before we did, I made sure to I pay for our drinks, which they in no way tried to refuse. Needless to say, we will never go back, and we encourage anyone who reads this to avoid this restaurant, especially when there are better options available. I was not even going to leave a review, but after having a truly pleasant experience at El Jimador on Pearman Dairy Rd, I felt compelled to warn others of Papa's and Beer, and to steer folks to a Mexican restaurant more deserving of their patronage. read more
