We had Papa's Italian Sausage cater our wedding. It's the absolutely delicious, we had lasagna, Alfredo, caprese salad, breadsticks, meatballs and the sausage with peppers and onion. Everything was hot, soooo flavorful and filling. You can tell that Carl puts his heart and soul into making his food. The catering was so easy, he came in and set up in a blink of an eye. I walked in and immediately was greeted with an attitude and was very rudely rushed to order food when there was clearly no one in the restaurant, which was for a reason I ordered a Chicago beef without cheese, and onions which anyone would know does not go on a Chicago sandwich, but they handed it to me what onions and cheese anyway asked for it to be remade they bring it back, and I have never tasted the worst beef sandwich of my life. I don't know why, but it taste like dirty water from Flint, Michigan as a Chicago resident since most of my life. It is an absolute utter shame to say this is a Chicago beef sandwich. I've been trying to get out and try new local places. I kept hearing about Papa's Italian Sausage and wanting to try them out. I've recently been using Yelp, I read the reviews for Papa's and knew I had to get in and try and exactly what to get as well! The Bella Supreme, and the meatball sub. The first review I saw said these were a must try. I loved the sausage with the grilled onions and peppers. Tasted just like an Italian sausage sandwich should taste like. The bread held together nicely and the cheese was holding the inside. The meatball sub was great. The meatballs tasted good and the sauce was flavorful and spread nicely. This place is a hidden gem and does not look like a place with food as great as this. Stop by for lunch for a Kalamazoo Must try sandwich! I have loved the smell of Papa's Italian sausage cooking at the Bank st Farmers market but have never gotten anything because I go I. the morning to the farmers market. so I was really excited to see they were opening a place on Ransom Dr just a short drive from Comstock area. Both my husband and I were so dissapointed when we got home with our sausage sandwiches. to start off the sausage was stone cold- ( not even Luke warm) as if it had been pulled from the refrigerator- stuck in a bun and covered with toppings. the sausage was bland and tasteless. the potatoes we got were also cold .with too much Italian seasoning but not any salt. Too bad - could be so much better. We should have been suspicious when we walked in and there was none of that wonderful smell like down at the farmers market. We won't go back. read more

Food took quite a while to come out, but thinking "good food takes time", right? Nope! Both mine and my companions meals came out cold. She ordered a no carb bowl- cold! Slimy mushroom- ew! I ordered a Chicago beef, it was cold and tasted like it had been dipped in warm salt water (the au jus?). The guy came back out and grabbed our meals, you could here the beeping of the microwave. Like 30 seconds late he came back out and said sorry. Is, I have a cold sandwich with blazing hot microwave bread, and her meal went from cold to room temperature. Used yelp to find the best Italian beef located in Kalamazoo Ray Ray's came up first so I decided on to go there. Well they were closed Monday's. So Papa's Italian Sausage came up as number 2 in kalamazoo. Well we came in at approximately 3pm and ordered Italian beef along with another Italian beef that came with sausage. When sandwich arrived the order was wrong. I had order my Italian beef with their hot spicy sausage along with giardiniera well did not get what I ordered. I received a sandwich with pre-sliced what maybe consider beef but sure was not Italian beef. "see attached picture". My wife would not even eat her's. The sausage that came with sandwich was good. The fact they heated up in microwave not good. If you consider yourself an Italian sausage maker you should be embarrassed serving pre-sliced overly processed beef product. So if you are looking for Italian beef do not come here. If you are looking for sausage you should be okay coming here but loose the microwave. Using a microwave to cook or warm your product that I am assuming you made from scratch should be embarrassing to you. If you are of Italian heritage please no what you are passing off as Italian beef should be disgraceful to yourself. Thank you for the sausage but take the Italian beef off menu please. Great weekday lunch spot. Reasonable prices & good portions. We each orders the Italian beef sandwich on the recommendation of a friend. 2 sandwiches with hot giardinara (spelling? Pickled veggies) on the side was under $15. The buns were fresh, sandwiches hot, and the side was extra spicy, yum! I like Ray Rays, but hate the line at lunchtime. There was no line at Papa's & the food was comparable. Friendly fast service too, why wait in line?! Go here instead. Also, saw Papa's booth at the Kalamazoo Bank St Farmers Market this am. In my personal opinion, it's the best Italian Beef in Michigan. This company is local as well. They are also at the Kalamazoo Farmer's Market on Saturdays.
