I had seen images off Instagram and knew the restaurant was fairly new. I did not know that when we went we had only gone on the 2nd day of its opening. What I had seen was images and videos from their preview and soft opening before being even open to the public. Paperfish did not disappoint. Ambience: Decorated with cherry blossom trees and videography of Japan from approx. the 1920s/1930s, mixed with awesome dark beats featuring drum rhythms from the in house DJ, it definitely set the tone for upscale trendy dining. I totally was jamming to the music and feeling the vibe. The tablescape was minimalist with your chopsticks resting on a small smooth black stone. We ordered green tea and it came in a nice ceramic kettle. All food was prepared and brought out on nice wooden boards or on top of a bed of crushed iced should it need to be chilled (sashimi). Food/Drinks: The food and menu selections were fusion with Asian-inspired takes on Thai and Japanese faire with hints of Latin flavors. Classic maki options were jazzed up with options like wagyu beef, foiegras, and hints of lime and subtle notes of ceviche sauces. Additionally, offering traditional sushi rolls. We had the salmon and tuna crispy rice, the ebi-Kani bao buns, and the wagyu gyoza to start. We finished with the Thai chicken rice, the tuna toro roll, and the ebi Katsu roll similar to a shrimp tempura roll with cream cheese. And for dessert the chocolate lava cake with pistachio mochi and the Japanese version of a Creme brûlée with mango sorbet. Although they were tasty, I would not order again only because I did not think they were so extraordinary or special for the restaurant. They honestly were like ordering a normal lava cake or a Creme brûlée. The Thai rice is a good sharing item and is filling. I found a bit too salty for my taste but my boyfriend loved it as he needs to eat a bit more to feel full. I enjoy small plating/tapas style so by this point in the meal I was already hitting my stride. For drinks, I tried the Ichigo Sour which had flavors of coconut and amaretto. Very tropical and not too alcohol latent and my boyfriend tried the dragonfruit mule without alcohol and I thought that was excellent. I definitely recommend it without alcohol. Service: Service was prompt and attentive. Our waitress Vanessa was knowledgeable of the menu and gave great suggestions. The manager also stopped by the table to check that all was satisfactory which was a nice touch. Gratuity was included regardless of party size (we were 2 people) of 18% which I didn't and never mind being included. But it was mentioned to us the that full 18% gratuity would not go to my waitress. That only 15% of the tip would. I have never heard of this nor has that ever been told to me before submitting my payment. I wondered if that was to just get us to tip more. ‍ Regardless, my boyfriend and I tipped additionally on top of the 18% because we felt our waitress did a good job and we enjoyed our meal. Price versus Quantity and Quality: Obviously this restaurant is located in Brickell and is new so the trend of "small plating" is "the thing". Prices were not astronomical but just note your bill will add up quickly. The signature makis are appropriate with ranging from $11-14 dollars for about 10-11 rolls. Drinks were mixology-grade ranging from $11-$15 for a good quality, specialty drink. Appetizers came about 2-4 pieces which is expected. Be wary of the the nigiri as these pieces come 2 pieces each and are pricey because of the nature of the ingredients as most use truffle oil or high quality fish/meat such as scallops or wagyu. If I had it to do again and to streamline my bill, I would invest in one crispy roll (I'm more of a salmon girl), definitely the ebi-kani bao buns (those might have been my favorite), a dragon fruit mule with no alcohol to enjoy the actual flavor of the drink, and I would try some different signature makis. I give it a 4 out of 5 only because as it was the second day of opening they were out of some of the fresh wagyu beef options. I'm sure it was an oversight but I'd like to return to try what I didn't get to like the torched wagyu beef nigiri or the Thai rice with wagyu rather than chicken. The dessert was delicious but not extremely special. I would have liked to see something a bit different or more unique on the menu since the restaurant is priding itself in unique rolls and fusion style Asian. All in all worth the experience. Definitely make a reservation as it fills up quickly. And I would definitely come back to try some of the other rolls. And splurge for the nigiri that boasted unique flavors. read more

Horrible experience. My rating is based on food quality and service; all below 5 stars. The service was horrendous from the entrance & the food was not good. Drinks tasted watered down. read more

Sushi was top notch. Super fresh, and melt in your mouth. I've had uni at many places and this was the best so far. Highly recommend by this food lover read more

Great food , great service! But the AC was FREEZING. Me and my friends were trembling the entire dinner. read more

Had a margarita and it was awful. Tasted like water and triple sec. They exchanged it for a blueberry lava drop martini which was delicious. the salmon furai was super tasty and California roll was great too! Server was super nice. They charged for two edamame when we had only ordered one. I think the server did that to cover for they crappy drink they served even after the waitress told me the manager had tried my drink and agreed it was bad. It was my fault I didn't double check the bill before they swiped my card. 18% gratuity is automatically charged. read more

The vibe at this place is very unique and cool! Happy hour is the best time to come! Great deals and appetizers to try! Also good drink specials! Only reason I did not give a 5 star is the size of the sushi portions, a little small. But this is pretty typical of Miami so definitely a spot I will be going back to. read more

Everything on the menu is WOW. Literally everything. And prices are so reasonable, especially for brickell. Probably my new favorite asian/sushi spot in miami read more

Everything was delish the best part was our server Zareena, she was amazing!! Great attitude and very personable!! Will be back !

Incredibly overhyped and really quite bad. We ordered Omakase, and it was a joke in both amount of food and quality. A couple of the pieces of sashimi were good, the ceviche ok, and everything else just felt cheap. That theme continued as we ordered various other dishes. The Wagyu was simply the worst I've tried, and we had it on the sashimi and bao buns, which we waited for for over 30 minutes as it got delivered to another table on accident. To top it off there was some kind of leak from the ceiling that was splashing us and nearby tables every 10 minutes. Will definitely not be going back, frequent lots of sushi places around the city and the value for the money is terrible here. read more

Food was soooo, and Joselin's service was great as usual!!! The wagu bao was amazing , and the happy hour menu delivered great value!!! Will keep on coming back !!!! read more

Terrible experience - waited 15 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge my boyfriend and I. We had looked at the menu earlier, and were so excited when we saw that they were incredibly accommodating to allergies. When we finally had a server come to us, he took another 15 minutes to check with the chef about our order and came back to us saying that they can't accommodate any of our allergies and that the menu online is 100% inaccurate. It was already 9:48pm at this time, and we got up and approached the manager who really could not be any less empathetic and said not to look online -- that's the only thing people have to base of off??? This place needs to get its act together, or won't last past the summer. read more

Cynthia our server was amazing! She was very attentive and took great care of us. The food was equally as good. I love sushi and they did not disappoint. Had several rolls including Paper Tuna, Salmon Furai, Ebi Katsu, Jalapeño hamachi and I forgot the appetizer with seafood and Japanese butter. I thought it would not live up to the hype but exceeded expectations. read more

Such a great restaurant, the service was amazing, my date was amazing I will highly recommend this restaurant.

Best in the area. I almost do not want to rate it - want to keep it to myself. Too bar. Top Sushi. Crowd are straight locals. Everything on menu is recommended. Is it traditional sushi? No. Is it the best sushi in Miami? Yes. read more

Paperfish is my favorite sushi restaurant in Brickell. I come here every time I am in Miami- several times back to back nights. My favorite is the spicy crunchy rice (salmon) and the paper tuna roll. Maydel is wonderful and I see her every time I come. Would recommend this to anyone in the area. read more

Amazing. Great upbeat atmosphere. Delicious food and interesting choice of unique drinks. Can't wait to be back

I like the vibes of paperfish. They're like a slightly cheaper nobu. Did one of their rolls absolutely obliterate my stomach? Yes but I dont think it was their fault. Expensive but still cute read more

Amazing food and service! Juan is an amazing server and very attentive. Will definitely come back.

came here for a "self date night" and indulged in some delicious eating. Drinks were on the sweeter side but great too. Thanks Jose for all your recos! they were spot on read more

Maria was very helpful organizing and suggesting plates for a group of 10. Food & service was phenomenal!

This place is great but it can improve. The two best things are the decoration and the creative menu. The food was great and the decorations are original and beautiful. Maguro-foie nigiri is truly excellent. Two things that can improve and are only 3 stars are service and the website. Our waitress was absent, very difficult to reach and not knowledgeable. We were interested in the history of the place, the chef and the purpose but the website is incomplete. It has multiple sections that have no content. In general, we liked it but we hope it gets better. It has potential. read more

This place was great!!! The appetizers, sushi and deserts were great tasting and fresh and the ambience was truly fun and trendy. I recommend the ishiyaki del mar was the best appetizer on the menu for our table. The Black cod was the best entree and the sushi's were all fresh and well balanced. We recommend this place highly and when you come ask for Maria she is also the best waitress!!!! read more

Food was okay. When we went to pay we asked why the tip options were so low. The server did not answer us. After choosing the option to tip 20% we saw that gratuity had already been added to our original bill. The lack of communication from our server is unethical and quite frankly dishonest business practices. read more

Food was good not too expensive it was fast also, definitely recommend if you want a nicer sushi spot. But almost impossible to hear the gentlemen on the phone, that would be my only complaint. Other than that the place in awesome and beautiful read more

Today was my best friends birthday and we thought it was a great idea to bring her to paper fish WRONG !! we had reservations at 10:45pm It took 15 minutes to get a waiter to even bring us water. We made eye contact with every waiter in the establishment and no one came to serve us. Finally we got a waiter his name is Jason and he was super arrogant, unfriendly and rushed the entire experience. I will not be referring this place any of my colleagues. Very rude.. read more

Came on a date and turned out to be a great first date spot. Awesome atmosphere, great sushi rolls and an even better staff. We chose to sit at the bar, and our bartenders Tony and Maria Jose definitely made our experience memorable. Just had dinner here and the service and food was amazing. We came in for the Happy Hour and Max helped us with all of our inquiries. His service was amazing even though we started with the Happy Hour, which is rare in establishments. The lychee martinis on the Happy Hour menu were strong, so you will definitely have a good time.
